That is completely unprofessional and disgusting. Those tires were so dangerous that they can't be driven on the highway. They would've exploded. So much for customer loyalty and trust. 9/2019 Update - Just came back recently to have Denny inspect my brakes as it's been squeaking a little as of late and they don't feel as sensitive. He put my vehicle on the lift and inspected my front brakes. He found them to still have a good amount of life to them and showed me what he was looking at. Explained to me because I have ceramic pads, they sometimes squeak due to moisture. Without asking he decided to check the rear drum brakes to see if they were still good or needed adjustments. Showed that the drum shoes were still good but needed some adjustment and cleaning which he performed. In the end my brakes did feel better and I really appreciated the honesty as some places might just change your brakes even when it's not necessary. I once brought an Volvo here for inspection and told the owner that my cruise control didn't work. Denny had the same Volvo model I did and said he could take a quick look if I wanted. I told him that a "Volvo Expert" in Glen Cove told me I needed a new cruise control computer for $500 and labor. Denny took a look around my engine bay and found an unconnected vacuum hose tucked under some other hoses. He looked at me, plugged it in and told me to try the cruise control and let him know. He charged me for the inspection and refused to take anything for the "loose vacuum hose". My cruise control worked from then till the day I sold the car. If I hadn't known, I would have given a higher rating. Here is my story ....I've been going to this auto shop for a good 5 yrs. I live one block away and it was very easy to jst leave my car here for them to do whatever that was required. This convenience also allowed me to RELIGIOUSLY follow the oil change of every 3 month schedule. .Despite this, sadly, my 2001 MAXIMA crapped out in 2007 with only about 80K miles. Most people laughed at me since they said at 80K the car hasn't even been broken in! Anyway, I thought what bad luck I had....But i did take note that at the time of my car crapping out, my cousin took a look under the hood. He told me that the brake fluid was literally emptied. At that time, i was not happy since i always ask the mechanic here to check everything.. Anyway, I let it go. I get a new car (LEXUS)...I don't bring it to D&D anymore since the condition of my last car made me wonder about the work they did for the 5 years (exclusively worked on by D&D). But going to the dealer for basic oil change, etc. was a pain in the a** and I think to myself, how difficult and elementary is an OIL/FILTER change...So i breakdown and i drop off my car to D&D for an oil/filter..surely they must be able to handle this simple task without a hitch. Few hours later, they call me and tell me it's ready. Great. I go, and they charge me $45 for an oil/filter change. Right away, i ask them, you are now charging dealer's rate? so they say, how much should it be...I told them it use to be 29.95..they disagreed and said it was never that low..I said, ok, whatever...10-20 bucks is not gonna break my piggy bank. Finally they charged me $35.. Here's the KICKER.... not more than 2 months after i had this oil change at D&D...the "LOW ENGINE OIL" light comes on in my car! Right away, I am puzzled & think wtf? I get to my office and immd popped the hood to check the oil stick. Firstly, the oil was black not the olive oil color that it should be....secondly, the oil level was BELOW the minimum line of the oil stick ( oil stick has 2 line marking, a minimum and a maximum) mine was below the minimum line! It is OBVIOUS that D&D charged for the oil/filter service but did not do the work. .....and now I wonder about that 5 years that i had them work on my maxima...perhaps nothing was done and therefore the car died prematurely... Absolutely blown away with how honest this shop is. I had a list of things that needed to be repaired given to me by another mechanic. I showed d and d and he said no u don't need this.. u don't need this... u don't need this.... this we can do. It's an east fix. My first visit to them was for my battery light and he told me to get a new battery from autozone Bc I was under warranty and the wire was loose so he tightened it and looked at everything and didn't even accept the tip I tried handing him. 2nd visit was for my tirerod and brakes. And turned out to be my alternator. He said he didn't even need to replace my tirerod. And there was a clunking sound that turned out to be my exhaust and he fixed that for me for free!!!! When I tried to tip $40 to his employees he told me it was too much and tried handing a 20 back to me! SERIOUSLY HONEST AND TRUSTWORTHY I have found my new mechanic for life!!!! read more

This was my first time taking my Maxima in for service at this mechanic. I had to get an alternator replaced and I was not familiar with this neighborhood. This was one of the only places around here that was willing to give me an estimate without needing my vehicle in their facility. The owner was friendly and soft spoken and he gave me a couple of different alternators to choose from (from rebuilts to OEM). Took them about 2 hours to complete the job and they even took the time to repair an undertray I had given up hope on. I'm not saying they're miracle workers, but they were professional, accommodating, and at no point did I feel like they were trying to suck as much money out of me as possible. To the poster below with the maxima, the 3.0 and 3.5 engines were notorious for burning oil. You should get your gaskets replaced, probably at this place because most of the other mechs around here will rip you a new one. read more

It makes me sad that cheap people need to come on yelp and trash such great workers. They are not only friendly but super honest! Scam!! I went to check my car last week and they didn't pass my inspection because my 2 tires and charged me $37. They said I have to fix it, when come back to recheck they will charge me $27 for the 2nd time. So I ran around the good place to change the wheels and went to 3 places, they all said my tires are still in great condition... And they recommend me to get reinspection from different shop. My car passed the inspection right away and I didn't touch the tire or fix anything. And the second shop that I went was so nice. They charged me only $10 for reinspection. I don't understand about what d&d tried to do...not even check the tires thoroughly and made me waste my money and time???? and tried to charge more for the second visit???? So I want to tell you that Yelp that give a chance to poor customer who got bad experience like me. Hope you guys get the good shop...but I don't recommend her for sure!!! read more

I would avoid this place. The mechanic here told me that a new motor for my window would cost me $350+labor, equaling about $500. Every source online is selling the window motor I need for $50. They did what they called a "temporary" repair of the one that was broken and charged me $100 without asking if I wanted that or not. read more

I've using him for over 15 years. Not the cheapest but the shop is honest that's all you can ask in auto mechanic / shop. Yes you can go to PEP's and the oil change is cheaper but they try to find something else wrong. He told me my tire's thread is running really low and he said don't let your wife drive the car in snow or rain. They changed my battery and oil pump, but the problem is just simply add some machine oil. Second time, My air condition is smelling, they did the smelling issue for me but AC model doesn't work!! Which makes me anoyying. What is the worst thing is that every time they just add little oil in my engine to make sure I can go back to fix the car frequently. The most expensive oil change I've ever had in my life. These guys ripped me off. Everywhere I go always charges between 25 and 30 dollars for regular oil. After the oil change was done he had the nerve to charge me 43 dollars for REGULAR OIL. No, not synthetic. A regular oil change with regular oil. This place is great! They open on Saturday's and you can bring your own oil for an oil change. The mechanics will inspect the undercarriage of your car for any necessary repairs and advise you on what is failing soon..overall, the shop is pretty well equipped and the best part is that they are located in a less travelled area of Bayside, so chances are you'll be served quickly... read more

I have been going to D&D Auto for about 2 years now. The owner Danny and mechanic Pete are both top notch. They are honest and the prices are reasonable. I had them perfrom NYS inspections, a oil change and brake pad replacements. I dropped off my car for a squeaking noise issue in the rear tire after a tire rotation at Costco and headed to work. Within the hour, they called me and determined that I needed new rear brakes as they were starting to wear down. I was told by them months earlier that I may need rear brake pads soon during a NYS inspection. When the repair was completed, Danny showed me the worn brake pads and advised that my rotors are still in working condition and those did not need to be replaced.
