I had a chance to stop in at Leon's on my visit to the Pittsburgh area today and we ordered the Jerk Chicken meal and I have to say, I haven't tasted Jerk Chicken anywhere as I did at Leon's. The chicken was mouth-watering and melted off the bone. I enjoyed the red beans and rice that was the bedding for this great take-out. I would kick myself if I forgot to mention the cabbage and a slice of a very moist chunk of cake that was a great finish. Thank you to the Leon's team for producing a great meal. read more

We ordered take out of brown stew chicken, a small jerk chicken, and goat curry stew. All three entrees were delicious and the portion size is an excellent value. It's hard to say which one was my favorite because they were all amazing, but I think I'll go with the jerk chicken. It was too spicy for my wife, but perfect for me. The flavors were bold and peppery with a hint of sweet. The brown stew chicken tasted like buttery gravy with a touch of Caribbean flare. The spice level was very mild. Second favorite! And goat stew had more of a yellow curry flavor with tender cubes of goat meat. It was also much less spicy than the jerk chicken. The rice was a great consistency and the perfect way to sop up some extra sauce. We ordered online and the food was ready within a couple minutes of arriving. We will definitely order from here again, I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. read more

Walking in, you'll notice this is a hole in the wall takeout joint. It's simple, doesn't try to misrepresent and just plain good. I have tasted the jerk chicken, shrimp and the curry chicken and shrimp and stewed chicken. All of the food has been amazing and the portions are huge, definitely more than 1 meal in each container. There are a few seats if you want to dine in. Parking is only on the street but the wait for an open spot is never too long. Do yourself a favor and check it out. read more

Ordered: Large jerk chicken, Large oxtail stew Price: $23.54 w/o tip Ambiance: The place is very barebones with minimal decorations and only 2 tables for dining in. They were playing rap music in the background and the cashier flipped between singing the lyrics, struggling with his iPad, and taking my order. It also didn't help he seemed impaired by some substance or other because he was mumble-slurring his words and difficult to understand. To their credit however, the place seemed clean and the server genuinely seemed proud of the food when he gave it to us, saying to remember where the food came from, to enjoy it, and to come back some time. Food: The oxtails were a smidge dry (happens when cooked at too high a temp) but the flavor was rich and savory. A large portion had maybe 4 larger bones with 4-5 smaller tail bones and most of the pieces were tender enough. The jerk chicken carried a good amount of heat (coming from a spice fiend) but the strongest notes were the allspice and cloves. A little more soy and maybe some coriander would've given it more earthy body to round it out. The rice and boiled veges were perfectly cooked and not too mushy although I'm always sad when there are no fried plantains included like other places I've been. Overall I thought the food was good but not something I'll seek out again. There are better meals in the city that actually offer a dining experience, are better executed, and aren't as shady for a similar price. read more

this food is beyond disgusting!!! the curry is unflavored and very greasy the rice was overcooked the cabbage was bland the food overall is something that I would never proudly sell. my entire meal will be going in the trash I will continue to drive across town for quality food. I'm highly disappointed because after reading the latest reviews I wasn't going to order but unfortunately I didn't listen. the only positive thing I can say is the price wasn't bad at all but for the quality of the food they should have paid me. read more

Like coming here at first but after this last time I'm through going. Been here prob about 6 times since opening because it is close and the wife loves the lobster. But the second time I went arrive was bad they messed up order and the cooks in the back did a solid job of trying to cover the mistakes of the person in front. This last time we went the service was ok good was Luke warm and at the bed it all fell apart. Again I've been here multiple times so I kind of know what to expect service wise but the lady in the front was rude after we were told we can use multiple stamp cards as 1 since my wife came with out me and didn't have my card. Mind you we spent over 300 bucks at this place already, so we wanted the free entree for the stamps we collected the woman was rude in telling us that we can't do it and that it's never been a thing after the same woman told me I could before. After my frustration I ask why can't you make an exception because of what was told she said no and not go happen. And kept going on at the mouth, the service was a big turn off and after that I told her it's ok you won't be seeing us again after spending another 60 bucks that day. And she shorted us on stamps for a free meal at that. So now we have two free meals but I refuse to use after the attitude and arrogance. Hopefully others have a better experience then us. And hopefully they can find servers willing to talk to customers in a way they don't feel they getting talked down to. Food is good but service is lacking read more

I was in Pittsburgh for a weekend, and staying at the Sheraton downtown. I placed a big order online Friday night around 9pm. They didn't have a couple sides I ordered, and called me a few minutes after I placed my order and offered replacements. Great service. It was an exceptionally busy night because it was a holiday weekend. The establishment is a small takeout spot. The food was exceptional. I ordered and devoured the jerk wings, juicy and fall off the bone, my wife had the veggie Rasta Pasta (curry flavor), and my son had the brown stew chicken. All delicious. We also had the Mac and Cheese and a side of cabbage which was delicious as well. It was so good we saved the leftover gravy / sauce and ate it with rice when we got home a couple days later. I couldn't see it go to waste. I joked to my wife on the way home ( 7 hour ride) and said that I was going back the next day to get some more food. Without hesitation she said, "Go ahead." I went to Leon's and got their Jerk and Brown stewed chicken, both were cooked very well with tons of complex flavor, which you expect from Jamaican cooking. The only downside to this place is at this time in 2020, there will be a long wait if you order in store, expect to wait at least 25-35 minutes. If your order online and come to pick up, you will probably still wait 10-15 minutes. I've had the oxtail and curry goat. The goat was way better--more flavorful, tender and spicy. The oxtail was actually bland but still tender. This place has zero ambiance. They might as well just go full take-out. Portion sizes are good however then skimp on the oxtail. Rice and peas are good. Cabbage is okay. Definitely will go back considering Pittsburgh hardly has any Jamaican spots. Looking forward to trying more dishes. They accept Apple Pay so that's definitely a big plus. The resturant was clean, open allowing you a glimpse into the kitchen, staff were friendly, but most importantly the food was out of this world Good. On a good day, Leon's has top notch Carribean food. The jerk chicken is to die for--every single piece is smoked perfectly, and the meat is so tender that it literally falls off the bone. The spiciness was also a surprising kick. They don't hold back on the spices! Which is a big reason that everything is so tasty here. Other good choices we tried here were the oxtail and curry goat, both of which, though bony by nature, came with a lot of meat and just as seasoned. GrubHub "Pickup" order was cancelled, when I called to find out why, I was given the worst customer service "I dont have time to help you right now" then hung up on me, Called back to speak to the person in charge, was belittled by the front of the house person (yes, I heard you) when handing over the phone, asked about my order then was lied to, telling me my payment didn't go through. I'm from NYC and come from a Caribbean family. When I tell you this place brought me back to my childhood... WOW. The oxtail here is out of this world. Meat fell right off the bone and was delicious. The beef patty was also amazing. Jerk chicken was good but needed to be a little hotter, although I understand that if you're catering to Pittsburgh-ers maybe being too spicy isn't a good idea.
