My family came to Roland's on Father's day for lunch and surprisingly, they were busy but we only waited about 15 mins for a table. Our server was running all over the place, but fast to take our food and drink orders. The food was out within 15 minutes. The apps came out first followed by the mussels and fish tacos. My dad loved the oysters and calamari. I thought it was interesting to serve the calamari with a bunch of peppers. Being a pepper hater, I didn't enjoy what is typically one of my favorite app choices. The angry mussels were something I was looking forward to and either my tastes have changed or something in the recipe is different from when I had this same pot a few years ago. It is extremely spicy. I was sweating. It took me a while to get through 70-80% of the mussels. My brother enjoyed he fish tacos. He said they were crispy and he appreciated all of the sauces on the side. The restaurant is pretty open with higher ceilings so sound travels. The bathrooms are around the corner from the bar and were pretty clean considering the high traffic day. We parked a few blocks away and walked. The shrimp was not clean and you can see the black line AKA the poop on the shrimp while inside the batter, gross. The lobster roll was loaded with lobster but again had no flavor. This place has tons of seats for large groups while you are in the Strip but be prepared for a long wait for your food once you sit down. The fact that most of the food is fried makes is puzzling why it takes so long???? It had been 27 years or so since my wife and I were in the strip district after moving away to Texas. We were staying downtown and were late on Sunday for the hotel breakfast, so we went down to the strip to have some breakfast at Pamela's at 11 am. Of course, everyone else had that idea too! WOW - Roland's expanded since we'd been there - now taking over the building to the right - what a beautiful job they did blending the old bar into the other half side! SERVICE was TOP NOTCH! The bartender was on point and memorable to the point we asked him about the restaurant, and it turned out he'd been there before the last time we were there - I swear he'd been waiting on us 27 years ago! (I think his name was Johnny, not 100% sure.) He was amazing with the service, as the bar filled up, making sure everyone was happy. Navigating the menu, old memories of favorites came back to us, and my wife ordered the lobster roll (it was $6 or so bucks the last time we were there), but even with the new price, THE AMOUNT OF LOBSTER AND THE SIZE OF THE LOBSTER CHUNKS were amazing. The lobster tasted perfect, fresh, correctly cooked, and on that Mancini's bread - UNBEATABLE. My wife had an amazing Bloody Mary (because of course, Sunday morning!) and I started with a Guinness on tap (because they HAVE Guinness on tap! Excellent!) before we moved onto local beers. I did have as a starter the Stuffed Banana Peppers - which had the best spicy sausage you can ONLY get in Pittsburgh. Then I had another starter which were the Breaded Shrimp - also unbeatable because of how HUGE the shrimp were ! Overall the service was on point - 5 stars - the bartender made the experince memorable. The food - AMAZING - 5 stars of course. We love Roland's and kick off our summer with a trip to the Strip! I ordered the Cajun Shrimp Appetizer, as my meal, which came with a mango salsa on the side that I poured onto the shrimp. Both came with big caesar salad with lots of parmesan cheese and a delicious dressing. The fish portion was generous and the sweet potato fries were soggy. The lobster ravioli was disappointing. Without a doubt one of the strangest and rudest experiences here. I'm a strip district resident who has been coming here occasionally for 10+ years. Walked in for a happy hour drink and to order dinner. Was not greeted immediately and then when I went to order, it was 5:57pm (happy hour ends at 6:00pm) I was told by the rude bartender it's after 6pm. I showed her my phone which clearly says it was not. She said "we go by our time, not yours" and points at a Coors Light clock above the seafood kitchen. Who made that rule? This is my first 1 star review on Yelp. Bad experience at Roland's. Terrible service accompanied by some mediocre/gross food. I was excited to try this place after hearing it had one of the best fish sandwiches in town. However, to much of my surprise, there is no fish sandwich on the menu. Supposedly they only had "fish and chips." Our waitress assured us they could bring out a bun on the side to "build your own" sandwich. Sure... simple enough. Ordered an appetizer of calamari and waited patiently for our food to arrive. 45 min later. No sign of food. Water glasses were empty. Eventually after probably an hour, calamari was served. Not the best unfortunately. Crispy, but very bland. Had to double check that we didn't accidentally order the fried cardboard. After waiting another 20 min, the Caesar salads were delivered. Once again, very boring. The homemade croutons were tasty, but the "caesar" dressing and sloppy chopped lettuce were disappointing. Finally - after well over an hour, our food arrived. A big old plate loaded with French fries, green beans, fried fish, and.... No bun. Waitress said she would grab them but went MIA for another 20+ minutes. Fish was cold by the time the buns arrived. Fries were meh. Green beans were cold, mushy, and gross. Tartar sauce was the tastiest thing on the plate. With a party of 4 people, it's concerning that it took well over an hour to get our food. The lack of service accompanied by the extremely below average food might just make this one of the worst restaurants I have ever dined at in my life. The waitress was fun and saw we were a handful. We got her to laugh a few times and we ultimately grew on her. I ordered Maryland's spicy clam chowder and 18 oysters (don't judge). I wasn't disappointed with either of my choices. The chowder was the perfect level of spice and seafood. But, it was a lot of food so made my co-worker to help me finish off the oysters.
