Wasn't really happy with the price or the outcome. Took in a set of bumpers made of brand new clean steel and they made three attempts to get the texture correct and were never successful. I've used a few shops in the area and have had the best luck with Maas brothers. It's a hell of a drive from Oakland, though. read more

Just went to pick up my bike frame. They sand blasted and got powder on the threads inside the bottom bracket. The whole thing is trash now. When I dropped it off, I had put masking tape across all the threads and other parts that should not be powdercoated or sand blasted. I know they don't use masking tape, but I don't own the special tape they use and I thought it would do for marking purposes. I explained this to the guy I left it with. He said he understood. I know it's cheap but it's not worth ruining your bike. read more

Took a chance in having a motobike swing arm powder coated and struck into something good. They did a great job making the ex race bike take off swing arm look newish for a very reasonable price. I think it's a place worth well trying. I also saw a few different items being powder coated such as road bike frames, Auto valve covers and wheels. Thumbs up for these guys. Leon's coated my Trek 520 frame and fork for $100. I saw a specialty dark burgundy sparkle on their online color inventory, but I did a poor job of communicating my choice, and ended up with a burgundy frame with gold glitter clearcoat. It looked cheesy, like it should have streamers in the handlebars. I was disappointed. However, I found that the clearcoat chipped off easily, revealing a nice dark red finish underneath. I took off all the clear/sparkle in about 2 hours with some packing tape and patience, and now it looks awesome. For $100, the onus is on you to make sure they treat your bike right. They masked off all threads and surfaces nicely though. One other thing - a couple years ago I had a steel Bianchi frame done, and it came back wrapped in plastic. I didn't open it until I got home, and I found it'd been lightly dinged. Unwrap your stuff before you get home, and don't take them anything that can't stand up to a metal shop. If you have a frame that costs more than a powder coat, I'd take it to a shop that deals mainly in bikes. If you have a commuter that you want to spruce up, take it to Leon's. They're lovely folks, and they'll do a decent job for cheap. Don't get a clear coat, though. read more

I took my door to Leon's Powder Coating for them to remove old paint and rust to have it re-coated. I was concerned if Leon's kept my door too long I may be at risk of a robbery on my property and understood. My husband dropped off the door in the morning and Leon's completed the job THE SAME DAY!! Extremely pleased with this absolutely gorgeous powder coating job!!! I had a 46 year old wrought iron patio set that my deceased parents gave me when I bought my house in Los Altos. Now, my dear parents are gone and I've moved from that house to Foster City. The set has great sentimental value as it brings back very fond memories of my parents dining with me and my children (their grandchildren) and I wanted to keep it. It was a very sturdy set with everything welded together (not like the ones you can buy off the internet that you screw together). But standing outside for so many years (especially in the salt air), the set looked pretty bad. There was a lot of rust all over it. I found Leon's Powder Coating in Yelp and called them. They were very helpful, courteous, reasonable and responsive. They came right away and picked up the set. They called in two days and it was ready for delivery. I paid them over the phone and then discovered a couple of minor marks. They took two pieces back and had them back to me early the next morning. Incredible, dependable, trustworthy, efficient, professional service. I could not be happier. I got my rims for my FJ Cruiser powder coated at Leon's. He had somebody pick them up at Wheel Works and drop them off there when they were done for only $40. When I picked up my car after the 2 day turnaround I was pleasantly surprised! Leon and his team kicked ass. I will be back to play around with this process on some other stuff for sure. Worst ever I'm contractor that would deal with them off and on , I took a double swing gate to them they damages it while unloading it with a fork lift - it pushed my job out - a government job - not good , they wanted had given me a price a from price to powder coat the gate and fix it I said ok I need it fixed - it pushed my schedule out as it is then two weeks when my job was ready to go that's when I decided to pick these gates up they overcharged my my original Pricing making up for their mistake - they didn't even offer to discount their own mistake - when I was reluctant to pay the extra cost they decided to unload my gates so I had no choice bit to pay - I needed my job done - worst ever company - how can you do that to customer - you damaged it in the first place - I had to deal with moving my schedule around because of this - not cool - they didn't care to even worry about the frustration that o had on my end , make sure you get a email confirming your pricing for powder coating . My boyfriend needed some parts of his Harley powder coated. Needless to say we had to go back a second time to have some redone because it wasn't smooth. Not the best bang for your buck I would say. My husband took his two motorcycle wheels here to be powder coated. Was quoted a price and given a ready-by date. We dropped them off, picked a color and went on our way. The ready-by date came, and they still had not called us to say the wheels were ready to pick up, so my husband called them. Says they will be ready by the end of the day. Translation=we haven't started yet. So, he goes to get them early the next morning, and they are ready. Great. Takes them to the city where the bike is getting worked on, and upon closer inspection, there are horrible smudge marks all over the place. They obviously rushed the job, didn't let it dry, and handled the wheels way too hastily. Low prices, but you get what you pay for. I wouldn't go back without being extremely careful when I picked up my stuff. Since the wheels are already installed with tires on them, it's not worth it for us to bring them back and get redone. Had some mismatched patio furniture that I wanted to get the same color to create a set. Took it in on Friday and needed it for a party the next day. They did an awesome job and it was done same day. All the parts that shouldn't have been painted were not. Nice people too. They even charged me $20 less than originally agreed. Now that summer is coming i took two sets of iron furniture and three bike frames (with forks) to get them sandblasted (strip the paint away) and re-powder coat them. I got to the shop and talked to Leon, he is a really nice guy, gave me a really GOOD price for everything (a lot cheaper than other powder coaters) I got to choose different NICE colors for the bikes and furniture. Extravagance Iron Works has been doing business with Leon's Powder Coating for the past 3 years. We tried the other powder coating companies in the area but none worked out. We drive from San Carlos to Oakland for great quality in terms of their coating. They powder coat our items with primer then paint. We have had some accidents handling our gates which have chipped and we were able to see an absolutely thick coat of primer and paint. We love the guys who handle the work and the office people are very professional. The time which items get done is a few days and if we need items back sooner I always feel comfortable asking for our order to be done quicker. terrible! i signed up for yelp just to bag on these guys. i had a bmx stem and peddles that i wanted powder coated, so i went down there and personally gave them the parts and explained what i needed done and what kind of things were to be avoided, like powder coating threads and the axles of the peddles. well guess what, the threads were powder coated as well as the peddle axles! on top of that the tapping job was horrendous which led to sharp jagged edges where the powder coat met the tape edges. if you have large uncomplicated parts that need powder coating like fences or security gates im sure these guys could get it done, but for any kind of part that requires skill or care to paint, its just not going to happen. my advice is to pass these guys over, either that or have your parts ruined. read more

I took 2 bikes, mine and my wifes touring bikes, with s and s couplers in to get sandblasted and powder coated. noone was around, so i yelled and walked around a bit, they finally came out. We looked at a book and picked out a color, no paperwork, just a phone number on a piece of scrap paper. It all seemes super sketchy. I asked him to mask the couplings. Before we left, I confirmed the color with him to see if he remembered, sure enough, he knew the color code and number. We go to pick up the frames, noone knows where the frames and forks are. the stainless steel couplings were really scratched up from the sand blasting. They really blasted the shit out of it with coarse sand. The powder coating had bubbles and bumps. What do you expect for $80 per bike? Would I do it again? Heck yeah! As long as you don't expect perfection, I say go for it. If you are picky, stay away. I wish they did a better job, but then they wouldn't be so darn cheap would they? read more
