I purchased a set of steel rock sliders for my Jeep. I have never had anything powder coated before, so I thought spray painting the steel would suffice. As you could guess, the paint started flaking off immediately. At that point I knew that if I wanted to prevent rust, but also have a good finish, I would need to get them powder coated. That's when I went to Melrose powder coating. I worked with Chris there, and he is outstanding to work with. I felt like a chump bringing in my spray painted sliders because at that point the finish I put on was dreadful. Chris reassured me that I am not the first person to make the mistake of spray painting, and that he would media blast it so that it would be as if they were never painted in the first place. He asked me what type of finish and color I would like, and I gave him complete creative control, and boy did he deliver! I showed him my Jeep and its color scheme, and he immediately thought of a stunning color. Turnaround time was excellent, and I am extremely pleased with the results! I have a project in mind and sent off an email and received a response right away from Chris and Jennifer...i told them i had a metal tanker desk (maybe from the 60s) that i was thinking of getting refurbished and wanted a low to high range for pricing as this is a project i thought of doing myself for the past 10 yrs...um, didn't happen....of course I've had thoughts of getting a good sale on Krylon spray paint and doing it myself while getting high off my project...i know refurbishing is a big deal. The place is located off 98th and a little 'questionable' in the industrial area (across the tracks) but the place itself is pretty cool...I saw there was some backyard metal furniture, gates, getting done and the huge furnace they have to powder coat....spoke to Chris and was brought me into the "showroom" which was a small area with a wall of colors...almost a man's dream cave.... :) He was patient answering my questions and was very helpful while deciding on colors...was able to take some metal, color swatches, and got his business card and off i went... Melrose did a great job on my bike. He sandblasted the cruddy old paint, left the bike perfectly stripped. Noticed I'd left a part on and let me come by off hours to fix the problem. In the end, the job was better than I hoped. My mechanic also noted he did a great job of prepping the eyelets. I stopped by for getting a magnesium valve cover for a Mercedes to be media blasted and then powder coated. Overall, I was very happy with the work, cost, and turn around time. The people working here were all very nice to deal with, very friendly, and the shop was also quite clean and organized. There were a few things that bothered me, and this was the reason for missing 4 stars. For starts, there isn't really much of a reception area or waiting area, you just walk in the roll up door on the side of the building, and you must walk past fast moving forklifts and powder coatings in process. The final payment process was a bit weird as well, as when I was called about my part being finished, I was told to pay in cash, and upon picking up and inspecting the part I simply handed over $100 to an employee and got no receipt. Lastly, there were two small blemishes on the valve cover. One little spot that looks like it wasn't covered well, and another spot where it looked like the old paint was not completely removed and smoothed down. There turn around time also was a bit long at as I dropped off the valve cover on a Tuesday and got a call of completion on the following monday. The end result was very impressive either way. Good pricing, decent turn around time, good work, and very friendly and helpful employees. I would recommend this place. read more

I purchased a large wood dresser/buffet type piece of furniture on Craigslist and was searching for someone to professionally spray paint the piece. I found Melrose on Yelp and while I could see they specialized in painting and powder coating metal, I emailed Chris on the off chance that his shop would take on this project. I quickly heard back that they would do it and, after sending the dimensions and a photo of the piece, I got an INCREDIBLY fair estimate for priming, painting and a clear coat. Chris even helped me coordinate pick-up and delivery of the piece to his shop with one of his very friendly employees. I had initially purchased paint for Melrose to use but upon spraying it they quickly realized it wouldn't work. While it was a bummer that I spent $70 on a gallon of what I thought was good quality paint, I appreciated the fact that they knew it wasn't going to give me a good result. Chris suggested I come and look at a sample of a similar color they stocked and consider using their paint instead. After a quick trip into the shop, I decided to go with their paint and I'm so glad I did. The piece turned out amazing. Much better than I could have imagined. While I had the piece sanded and had some of the imperfections filled with putty before it was delivered to their shop, I wasn't expecting that they could achieve such a flawless, lacquered finish. Clean and professional shop. I was originally quoted $220-260 for the powder coating of a standing outdoor patio heater, because they were not sure how much blasting time it would take to remove the original coating. The final price ended up being $220, so that was good. The quality of work is excellent. The only issue I had was I was told that it would take 1 week, but it ended up taking 2 weeks. Also, there was an earlier comment about cash prices being 20% cheaper. I never got the opportunity to check that out because when I came in to pick up the piece I was immediately informed that they only take cash or check. I found these guys on Yelp about 3 years ago. I had Melrose sandblast and powdercoat 6 pieces of 1950s wire furniture. The table I had also needed to be repaired. The work was beautiful! Everyone was very nice...the shop is very clean. Price was great! A few months later I took some 1950s wire patio chairs I found thrifting to Melrose for work. They were not in perfect condition and someone had painted them with layers of goopy paint which hid how bad the metal was. The metal in places was literally crumbling. Melrose put alot of effort into salvaging them and making them look pretty good! I think their turn around time is very good...I think for me it was a week. Very reasonable. Just picked up more 1950s wire stuff last month...will probably be heading there soon... read more
