I had the worst experience at this place. I went in because my transmission starting acting up. It was under warranty. Took it in they "fixed" the problem. Drive home next day it still has a loud sound when you shift it drive and reverse. So I had it towed back. They again after a few days say it's fine. I pick it up. Few days later same sound..... I take it back..... it's making this loud sound. They tell me it's my brakes.... weird brakes don't make a sound on acceleration. At this point the lady is not being so nice and helpful. So I tow my car back to my mechanic and he says no the axel is on wrong your transmission is leaking and exhaust is rubbing. So they didn't put the car back together properly. So of coarse we send it back. This shop is terrible at how it handles its mistake. They put the car together wrong didn't seal things properly and it was leak. I had to rent a car and be unconvinced for 3 weeks altogether. Mark is a joke! He hides and is never available. So I sent my car four times to them. They didn't give me a new warranty for the new work which they should have since they essentially caused more problems to my car. This place handled us very poorly. And I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

My Dad's been taking his vehicles to Leon's in Reseda for over 35 years. I took my 1st car there in the mid 90's. I believe this shop has saved me several thousand dollars over the years. One example was 3-4 years ago, my 98 Forester started making a loud sound I could not Identify. I wasn't sure but It sounded 2 me like it was the transmission. Mark test drove and diagnosed it 4 free, and told me they would check it out. He said a rebuilt trans was I think around $2500 (sorry its been awhile), which I was informed would most likely be the worst case scenario. The next day when they were taking off the wheels to get to work on it, they noticed I had a bad front wheel bearing. It was about $250 to replace the bearing, and then the car ran smooth as butter. I've driven 60,000 miles since then. :] I was curious about what people were saying because I am about to refer my friend to take his bmw wagon here. Thanks again shop. Had used Leons on prior rebuild, so when my wife's MX6 manual Trans broke, I called Leons. Leons agreed to rebuild our transmissions with all new parts. They installed some new parts, salvage parts (junkyard parts were w/o our knowledge or consent and no idea of wear), they left out the parts we were charged for. It took 2 rebuilds and 3 weeks to end up with a leaking Trans and a Trans we don't know how long it will last. They broke several parts and improperly reinstalled other crucial parts, returned car in my opinion and others in a very unsafe condition. Exceptionally poor workmanship. Requested they fix and honor their contract, they eventually said we could sue them; they tried to return our money and voided our 1 year warranty. Said I was too way too picky. Told me to find someone else they did want to deal with me any more. My wife is original owner; I keep it in excellent mechanical and appearance condition; so were very disappointed they didn't treat it like one of their own. Leon has violated several Calif. BAR (Business and Professions) codes, as well as, the ATRA, ASE, ACSSA and AAA code of ethics. They are members of these orgs read more

As painful as car repair is...they made it pleasant. Gave me a ride to/from while the car was in for repair (and it's a good 30 minute drive each way). When they said they would call me with an update, they actually stuck to their word. Frequent status updates, and I thought prices were fair -- my particular repair, would have been expensive anywhere. Olive Auto Center, where I ordinarily go, actually recommended Leon's to me, only because Olive doesn't do transmissions. read more

Went by ol Leon's yesterday because my 04 f150 was leaking some fluid. I explained that I just had the oil pan gasket replaced at my regular mechanic and it must be coming from the tail housing extension gasket. Anthony came back and offered to replace the oil pan gasket and then leave it over night to see if that does the trick $134(in my industry we call that a parts swapper)(basically a trans fluid change minus the filter I'm sure!), I went home and hosed down the tranny and watched it for about 3 or 4 mins and was able see it leaking from the tail gasket(not the pan gasket), So I even called back to ask Anthony how much he would charge to replace that gasket , he said "let me give you a call right back with that" still no word back !. I don't mind paying for quality work (as I have received quality work from Leons about 12 years ago) but don't insult people by being lazy on your diagnosis. I hope the next transmission leak that comes in there at least gets wiped down and visually inspected.(you know treated like a warranty claim that they want to fix timely and at minimum cost) So in the end it was my tranny that needed hosing not me! read more

Anthony was the best. We went for a second opinion on our transmission (felt we were being lied to by the place we bought the car). Anthony inspected and diagnosed our car for free. He gave us a quote, and sent us on our way with instructions to "call anytime if you need anything or have any questions." We then took the car back to where we bought it and presented Anthony's findings. The transmission is now being replaced under the very limited warranty. This is a followup to my initial review, written with frustration at the continued leaking. Since the last review, Mark had me bring the car in again and leave it overnight to look for the leak. This is the diligent way to find the problem, and it appeared to have originated forward of the transmission. There was some dirt accumulation at the leading edge of the belly plate, which tends to indicate a leak that originated closer to the front of the engine, and still no indication of a leak at the rear transmission seal. A day later, I had it up on a lift to look at the water pump area, and no evidence of a leak there, either with the engine hot or cold. No loss of coolant. So it's still unclear where the exact source may be, but I shouldn't have blamed the mechanics at Leon's or Mark, who did his best to find the source. It doesn't appear to be from the transmission repair directly, and the transmission is working well. read more

After several problems with my transmission that I paid over seven thousand to fix at a place other than Leon's , my car would not start. A friend of mine referred me to Leon's because I was so in over my head and upset that I didn't know what to do. And I couldn't understand why my car wouldn't start after I had spent so much money on it to fix it. I called Mark directly and he told me to bring the car in and told me that he would take a look at it free of charge. Not only did he spend an hour looking at my car, and made absolutely no money, but he found the problem and did everything he possibly could to help me. He made $0.00 and gave me so much of his time, I honestly shocked cause I have never left a car shop paying $0.00... On a day that I didn't think things could get any worse, he gave me hope that there are good people out there and there are honest mechanics, like Mark. I left not only feeling better about my car, but better about the world in general. I bought a used 2007 Corolla. A few days later my check engine light came on. I went to my trusted mechanic, he ran a diagnostic test and then told me he was worried it could cost me a bundle and suggested I go back to the place I bought the car from. I did that, got the run around so I again called my mechanic, asked for his advice. He told me about Leons Transmissions and to talk to a gentleman named Mark. I left a message, he called me right back. I dropped off my car the next morning and he looked at it for free. A couple of hours later he called me and was also concerned. Before he even called me about my car Mark had already called a contact he has at Toyota of Northridge. He had him run the VIN number and found out my car was still under warranty. What could have cost me hundreds of dollars or more cost me nothing. All because there are still those that actually care about people and want to do the right thing. Leon's and Mark have me and my families business for life. I cant imagine what I would have done without these allies in the fight against those that take advantage of others when they are down. DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS PLACE. I felt compelled to write this review after the horrible experience here. I ran over a rock so I had transmission oil leaking. They literally said that I would have to pay 2500+ to rebuild my entire transmission because of this which is patently false. They also wanted 700+ just to thoroughly inspect it. Which is how I assume they get most of their victims by charging a premium for inspection so people get stuck and just rebuild a transmission that really doesn't need to be rebuilt. While I was there they told 3 other customers the same thing - which is the reason I knew there was no way this was the case. What is the likelihood three customers all have severe issues and need their transmission to be rebuilt? I took my car to an honest mechanic and am only paying 268 to replace the pan WHICH IS THE ONLY THING THAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED/REPLACED. My car is working perfectly now. Run fast from this place and don't look back. read more

Toni helped me Saturday morning and gave clear easy instructions.. then Anthony helped me when i dropped my car off.. he called me early in the morning to explain what they were going to do, and then they called when my car was done!! i didn't have to call and beg someone to let me know the status. I was referred to Leon's Transmission from my mechanic, even though it was out of the way for me. I was told to ask for Mark. Mark greeted me as soon as I got out of my car and took me into the office to discuss the issue I was having with my Honda. He checked over the car within 30 minutes and gave me a diagnosis and estimate. He explained everything to me with the model Transmission in the office and was never condescending. He even offered to give me a ride home, if I needed it, because we lived in the same area. Mark came across with complete integrity. Due to the recommendation and Mark's superior customer service, I felt like a valued customer whether I decided to use their service or not. I'd like to add, all the ladies in the office were very nice, as well. After a couple of days, I ended up coming back and having my transmission rebuilt and had it back within another couple of days. NEVER AGAIN!! They charged me over $90 for a transmission fluid change.. I asked the mechanic who did the service how many quarts did my honda take he told me twice that it took 4 quarts.. 3weeks later my trans was having troulble going into gear and shifting while driving.. I took it to a honda dealership and was told the trans need a oil change because the fluid was dark and it should run fine again and i was also told it shouldn't take more than 3 quarts.. I the dealership do the service and my car runs great again.. So this shop never changed my flid in the first place.. I will never go back read more

My car was making a loud noise when I made left turns I took it to a shop right by my work that shop thought it was the transmission and offered to take it to Leon's since they do not do transmissions. Leon's took a look at it for me and told me it was definitely the transmission it would be just under 1000 to take out and then worst case scenario 3600 to 3800 to fix I know that transmissions require hours and hours of work but this still seemed high ..called my buddy who is a mechanic and he looked up the hours and decided to get my car back from Leon's and take it to my buddy's shop he took a look at it used the scanner and found out all that was wrong was a worn out strut mount there was ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with my transmission. Unfortunately for those of us who aren't mechanics we would never know if someone pulled a fast one on us luckily I went with my gut instinct and took it to someone I trust. 4 years ago I brought my 1963 Pontiac for a transmission rebuild. It was estimated at I believe $1,500 but ended costing me $3,014!!!! From the day I got my car back I have had problems with it making noise when shifting into 2nd. Brought it back a couple of times for them to check it but all they would do is add a lubricant that didn't fix the problem. I finally got frustrated and stopped going because they were clearly not willing to help. The transmission has been leaking oil a year after the work was done and while trying to figure out where it was leaking from,found out its from where the O ring is. That's a $800 dollar fix!!!! I can't believe that I have to spend more money on the same part when it should be running like new after a rebuild. I might even have to rebuild it again. I am seriously very pissed about all this 4 years later. I hope this helps someone on making a rebuild decision at this place. read more

Omg. I couldn't believe what I found and what they did on my car. :( First of all this is a second car they messed up for me. First car was my 87 caddy. After they rebuilt the tranny I brought it back in few months later and I was asked " who the heck did the work on it?" They said it was badly done. Then I actually told the guy it was them that did it. No more smart ass comments. Then they supposedly rebuilt the tranny on my Durango. Well I paid $2500 plus for it. Few months later I got stuck on the road. The car wouldn't shift into park. I towed it home and decided to check it myself. I found that they used a paper clip to secure the cable linkage to the car. WTF? Who would do that? Anyways, I saw some tranny fluid there too so I took a closer look and found that one of the bolts is completely missing and all of the bolts on tranny fluid pan are loose. To the point that they can be removed or tightened by hand. Anyways, if you do get your car " fixed" here beware. You may want to take it to another shop to recheck it after they are finished. read more

I have a 1956 Chevy wagon. It's got a 350 with a 700R trans and a few other goodies. I'm very familiar with what makes a car tick and because of that knowledge I do not trust any mechanics or garages. I do work with a very reputable custom car builder ( in NoHo) when I need work done that I don't want to play with. No one else touches my cars. When my trans was giving me problems, My mechanic recommended Leon's Transmission. I knew what my trans was going to need and when Leon's diagnosed the problem and divulged their solution it was totally in line with what I had come up with. They even offered 2 solutions. One that would take care of the problem and probably last me a few more years or go thru the whole trans and not have to worry about it again.
