60 Ottawa Old Fashioned and Femme Fatale
    James M.

Came to one of our favorite restaurants for our 27th wedding anniversary. Every meal at Leo's is perfect. The service is consistent, friendly and timely. Conversation with the staff comes so easily. And the food and drink are always delicious. Over the course of the night, we enjoyed the Seafood Cake Duet as our appetizer. Between the two cakes, the shrimp and lobster was definitely our favorite. The cocktails included the 60 Ottawa Old Fashioned, the Femme Fatale and the Cast Away. The old-fashioned was perfectly balanced. My wife loved the other two cocktails, especially the Cast Away. That one in particular was dangerously smooth. It wasn't my first time having the Halibut "oscar style", but I'm a creature of habit and it's hard to pass up. It always tastes fresh, is a milder fish and paired well on the plate with a nicely seasoned rice blend, asparagus and covered in a delightful bearnaise sauce. The wife had the Kvaroy Salmon which she very much enjoyed, but didn't come close to finishing. The brussel sprouts were cooked just right and the balsamic reduction wasn't overpowering, but instead just that right amount of savory. Leo's seems to change up their desserts fairly often, but frequently offer a crème brûlée. We opted for the vanilla bean this time and in hindsight, wish we would've each ordered our own instead of sharing.

A review- with pictures this time! Recommend to all. Stunning, delicious food. I get calamari every time I go, and the lavender margarita if they have it. Something for everyone. Service is always the best. Quiet, private, upscale vibes. Best pastry chef in the city. Absolutely love!

We enjoyed a wonderful anniversary dinner on a Saturday night during a holiday weekend . The place was busy . We had a reservation and received a text on our way in that our table was ready , they added a nice touch with an anniversary placard at the table . Dinner wasn't rushed yet service was attentive , drinks were well crafted , wine list very well curated . We enjoyed Lobster pasta and Cajun seafood dish , very nice menu making it was hard to choose . Dessert was a chocolate cheesecake covered in cherries . The only complaint is the dining room is a bit bright and just doesn't have a high end feel . The food and service make up for that , truly a great dinner

Leo's is fantastic. From the moment we walked in, the experience was exceptional. We were greeted with warm welcomes and a handwritten postcard wishing us a "Happy 7th Anniversary," which was such a thoughtful touch. We were seated at a high-top table, just as requested, on the more casual side of the restaurant. Even that side felt elegant and classy. Our server was outstanding--extremely knowledgeable about the spirit-free menu (neither of us drinks alcohol) and full of great recommendations. Every drink we ordered was fantastic. The bread service was perfect. The bread arrived warm, and the butter was so soft it practically melted as you spread it. Then came the entrées. My wife ordered the filet mignon and substituted green beans for the asparagus without any issue. The steak was cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes were buttery, smooth, and delicious, and the green beans were crisp and flavorful. (I know because I happily helped finish everything!) I ordered the Seared Sea Scallop Risotto, and it was one of the best dishes I've ever had. The scallops were perfectly cooked--tender, buttery, and absolutely melt-in-your-mouth--with none of the fishiness some scallops can have. The sweet corn in the risotto added just the right touch of sweetness to balance the richness of the dish. As if that wasn't enough, we were surprised with a complimentary celebration dessert: a dark chocolate brownie sundae topped with ice cream and whipped cream. Simple, delicious, and the perfect ending to a wonderful anniversary dinner. If you're looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion, I can't recommend Leo's highly enough. It's the best dining experience we've had in Grand Rapids. If I could give it 10 out of 5 stars, I would.

This was a great seafood spot a group of us from work visited near the end of a long week. We started with cocktails and then moved on to a selection of wines by the glass. The menu for both was extensive. Several appetizers, soups, and salads were enjoyed. The seafood cake duo (one crab and one lobster), along with the soup trio (clam chowder, lobster bisque, and soup of the day, which was a sirloin tip and bean variety) were my favorites. All entrees were huge. I enjoyed the Chilean sea bass, which was amazing. The halibut, and a few different steaks also received rave reviews. One didn't care for their branzino. Not sure why, as I tasted it and thought it was fine. The waiter, without asking, took it off the bill. We didn't get dessert, as we were stuffed. However, we saw several that looked great. Service was friendly, informative, and around when we needed it. I'd definitely go back.

I'm so sad to be writing this. What once was our go to restaurant for my birthday and our Anniversary is no more. First, we came here because they offer Whole Main Lobsters which a lot of places do not. Second, they also worked will with my Allium Allergy. Came for our Anniversary dinner. The Tuna Appetizer is longer could have because it is Pre- crusted. Obviously the Lobster was a no go. I ordered the Surf and Turf. The Lobster Tail was terrible, overcooked and dry. So was my Filet. The server who was great ask night asked how everything was. I told her to which she says "sorry" then walked away. My husband ordered the Tortellini. It was half the size of last year. I wanted to honestly cry I was so disappointed. We will not be back.

Leo's will always be one of my favorites. From the atmosphere to the food. Best lobster I've ever had on a surf & turf. Can't wait to come back!

    Halibut "Oscar" style

We haven't been to Leo's in a while and with an anniversary milestone approaching, we thought this would be the perfect place to go. Since we arrived a bit early for our reservation, we decided to have a few drinks and appetizers in the bar as it was "Happy Hour". We enjoyed a couple of glass of wine and some calamari. At our reservation time, we were seated in the dining room and began studying the menu. The halibut was served "Oscar" style and as we both love halibut, that is what we both ordered instead of each us ordering something different and splitting it. I thought the halibut was pretty good but did not care for the sauce. The crabmeat didn't have the taste or texture I'm accustomed to so the "wow" factor was out the window. Service was what you would expect-excellent. Everything was "decent" but at these price points, I probably wouldn't come back.

This was a wonderful dining experience in Grand Rapids! Reservations are highly recommended and easily made on their website. The restaurant was just a short walk from my hotel! I was seated in a lovely booth as soon as I arrived, and the service was extremely friendly and attentive. I love the little touches taking away used cutlery and replacing it with fresh cutlery and removing crumbs from the table before serving the next course. The interior is quite contemporary but a bit open particularly if you're seated at a table which does not afford much privacy. I enjoyed a lovely pear martini which was strong, tasty, ice cold, and beautifully presented. I had the seafood cakes duet (lobster and crab) as a starter at my server's recommendation. Great choice! Fresh, delicious, and tasty with a wonderful mix of flavors and textures. I followed this with a fairly standard but still tasty Caesar salad and some fairly simple bread from the complimentary basket. I was a bit adventurous and had the pretzel crusted walleye for an entree. I am not always a huge fish person, but this was quite mild. I loved the crunchy pretzel crust! Save room for dessert and check out the enticing dessert tray. I love when restaurants present desserts this way as I think it adds a touch of elegance. I tried the peanut butter pie which was decadently delicious with a wonderful mix of chocolate and peanut butter topped with a peanut butter cup. Overall, this was truly a lovely dining experience! I would definitely return should my travels take me back to Grand Rapids.

Leo's happy hour is fire. I've had dinner here in the past, but tonight we came for serious snacking and drinking. We started with red wine and finished with the spritz, made with Aperol and Saint Germain (two of my favorites). Both were absolutely delicious and modestly priced at $8 each for happy hour. We tried the escargot dip and calamari, and honestly, they were unmatched. The calamari was perfectly flash-fried, the garlic lemon aioli omg! The escargot dip with puff pastry, veggies, and goat cheese was so rich and flavorful. The vibe was romantic and quiet, and the service was lovely as always. Even the bathroom was adorable and stocked with thoughtful extras like mouthwash and feminine products--we love a nice touch. Is this an every-week or even every-month spot for me? Probably not. But I've never had a bad time here, and it's always worth the visit.

An experience from the entrance. Large welcoming and luxurious feel as you walk in the doors. White table linen and clever design help to create tired eating spaces. We were greeted by our friends already seated and had a fantastic meal together. Food was lovely and it was a fabulous meal.

Are reservations recommended for a Monday evening?

I always eat in the bar dining area without reservations but if there is an event downtown (concert, trade show, etc) I would call to make sure

    Do they have parking?

I am not sure if they have their own private lot. e parked outside on street parking, There was a parking garage, I thought it was kinda price, so I looked until we found one.

They were talking to one another, and it was probably work related, but to just stand there staring at them for a couple minutes while they ignored us was awkward. When they finally talked to us they weren't very friendly. Anyway, we made our way to the bar and it was full except for 3 seats. I think the bartender waiting on us was new. He seemed like he was pretty overwhelmed/in the weeds. He greeted us quickly and brought us waters when he did, which I appreciated. I ordered a Blackeberry Bourbon Sour and my Mr had Paloma Nuestra. We both enjoyed our drinks they were refreshing and well crafted. For dinner I had a really hard time deciding! I wanted to try so many things! Our bartender said his favorite thing in the menu is the chicken and rice bowl. That was something I was considering and decided to go with that. Excellent recommendation! The chicken was flavorful and so tender. The hot peppers were a nice touch. There was a lot of food too! I couldn't finish it all. Mr had the hanger steak that was served with mushroom and asparagus risotto. He said the risotto was the best he's ever had, and I agree. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and so was the steak. What a disappointment, but not nearly as much as our experience at 123 Tavern. We came in at 4:15PM before the Brandi Carlile show needing a table for a party of 8-10. The place was fully booked (but only half full at that time) except the bar (first-come, first-served). Fair enough -- but from the moment we walked up, the manager at the host stand couldn't have cared less. She quoted a two-hour wait, shut down my question about sitting outside with a flat no, and pointed us toward the bar. No sense of customer service at all. Like zero. The three of us who were there took the last open seats at the bar. Then came the real show: one bartender for the entire restaurant AND bar. He ignored us for ten minutes. My wife and friend got their beers quickly -- but my bourbon sat finished at the service station for another seven minutes while I watched the large ice cube melting as it marinated there. When I finally asked where my drink was, I got "I'm working on it." When he did finally bring it, he pushed it across the bar at me -- no apology, no eye contact, his attention on anything but me. I'll be honest about what I can't prove: I've worked in this industry a long time, and the whole thing read like my service got intentionally slow-walked. My drink held back while everyone around me was taken care of. Maybe the front manager said something after our rocky start at the host stand. Maybe they're just all bad at their jobs. I can't tell you which. I can only tell you how obvious it felt from the barstool. Everything after was the same; menus, ordering, closing out, all a slog. I had to hunt down that same manager for our check so we could get to the show, and she was all attitude, zero help. We only escaped because my wife flagged a server who found a another manager. His response to hearing all this? "I'm sorry." Nothing else. No attempt to make it right. For the first time in my life, I left $0 on a $100 tab. I'm a 25%+ tipper. That's how badly this went. Here's the thing, 123 Tavern: if you're going to bill yourself as a place to gather before events, staff the place and train your managers to act like they want customers there. Until then, I'll spend my money somewhere that values it.

Hubby had the Penicillin cocktail substituting in bourbon. I had the non-alcoholic Orange Creamsicle. I love that Max's had a few NA options among their huge cocktail list. We shared the wonton nachos as a starter, which had huge cubes of tuna on top the lightest wontons along with wakame, jalapenos, edamame, avocado, and pineapple salsa. Amazing! For dinner hubby had the drunken noodles, black garlic chicken thighs with cabbage, brussels sprouts, carrots and peppers on top of rice noodles with peanut sauce. I tasted his dish, and it was so flavorful and the chicken was very tender. I ordered the tuna poke bowl, sushi rice surrounded by wakame, avocado, carrots, shallots, and edamame then topped with poke sauce. So good! I did have to send it back, though, because the tuna came out with furikake after I told our server that I don't do seeds. The kitchen flubbed up, but they were happy to make my dish seed free. This restaurant was definitely a fun visit and it reminded me of Kon-Tiki-Ports in Chicago. If you're in the Grand Rapids area, I do recommend stopping by for dinner or sit at the bar for one of their cocktail creations. The atmosphere is fantastic!
