I never met a kitchen gadget I didn't like. On a post-lunch stroll around downtown Portsmouth my companion wanted to go in for a look, and the minute I saw the wall-length display of kitchen gadgets I was hooked. A few things I already had (extensive Oxo products which I swear by, graters, zesters, spatulas, peelers, ice cube trays, I could go on). I resisted the temptation to buy the handy long-handled spoon that would be perfect for scraping the bottoms of jam or peanut butter jars. My companion and I giggled over a couple of "must haves"--unicorn shaped ice cubes anyone?--but the display was impressive. But kitchen gadgets are just a start. Bowls, knives (I now know what a ceramic knife is), pots, pans, and items better described by others here. it reminded me of a Sur La Table or Williams Sonoma. Just when I thought I was going to get out of there without a purchase, I discovered the perfect pasta/ramen bowl (pictured) to replace one I had recently broken. I'm a big fan of LeRoux Kitchen in downtown Portsmouth, NH. This compact kitchen store has a wide variety of those little essential kitchen tools that you just can't do without. Today I found the silicone container lids that I was looking for, and chose from a wide selection of oil sprayers to find the one that was just right for my needs. The friendly clerk helped me locate the items, and cashed us out promptly and efficiently. Speaking of the checkout area, DON'T MISS the tempting selection of gourmet chocolate bars! LeRoux, you are dangerous. You know you're dangerous. Flaunting your impressive cutlery and Le Creuset and your enticing uni-taskers. But damn it, I just can't get away. While not as spacious as its counterpart in Portland, the Portsmouth branch of LeRoux packs a lot of punch into well-stocked aisles. Gadgets, pots, pans, ramekins, juicers, strainers, glasses. Everything you don't need that you can convince yourself you need. Oh, and they have truffles in a glass case up front. From the second you walk in to the second you walk out, you are tempted to buy things. And that kind of brilliance and danger deserves five stars. Just a warning, though. Downtown Portsmouth isn't necessarily known for its abundant parking, so be prepared to drive around a bit. read more

A good kitchen gadget store. I found a few Christmas stocking stuffers at LeRoux. Prices were okay, given the location. The staff was friendly and the place was as crowded as you'd expect on the day before Christmas. Comparisons to Attrezzi (just down the street) are inevitable. LeRoux is cheaper and not as fancy. Attrezzi has more high end stuff, a small wine section, and a kitchen where they can do demos. LeRoux is more where people buy things for themselves, Attrezzi is where you'd pick up a gift for a foodie friend, except maybe during a recession. :) read more

Le Roux has literally everything you could want in a specialty kitchen store. The walls are just lined with all kinds of kitchen gadgets and utensils. Things I bought there on this trip up to Portsmouth were: parchment paper, hot chocolate mix, sea salt, and black truffle oil. Prices are fair and service is great. The in-house chocolate/candy counter is a very nice touch. Their sweets are delicious (albeit pricey)! Their store in Portland is also great, we've been there a bunch! read more

Oil and Vinegar: the new gourmand's peanut butter and jelly. Older, sophisticated, better on frisee, superior in every way. And LeRoux, a kitchen emporium that blends the inventory of William-Sonoma with the spark of the ICA gift shop, features these lovely paternal twins front and center. Espresso, currant, blood orange, dark chocolate, black cherry, summer peach white balsamic... ooooooh shit, playa - these vinegar varietals got more infusions than a yuppie tea bar. Oils, just as fragrantly flavored, include chipotle EVOO, lemon, roasted sesame, Herbes de Provençe (that ç is likely used incorrectly, but doesn't it look cool?) and the crème de la crème: black and white truffle oil! By the bottle! Cork your own! And you can taste each and every one. Hello monounsaturated glycerides, hello high density lipoproteins, hello WebMD. This amazing selection of vats aside, LeRoux fronts the coolest collection of kitchen crap you don't need but will buy anyway. Don't resist - those designer popsicle molds will pay for themselves tenfold. read more

It's like the local version of Sur La Table! If you have any culinary leanings at all, make sure you stop in at LeRoux to marvel at the lovely assortment of eco-friendly cutting boards; giggle over the silly single-purpose kitchen gadgets (pie separator, or avocado slicer, anyone?!); ogle at the impressive selection of multi-colored paring knifes and spatulas; caress the gorgeous Le Creuset cookware; sample the oils & vinegars; and drool over the assorted chocolates in the glass case by the register. Oh yes, temptation abounds at every turn down the aisle! Prices were quite fair, and of course, it doesn't hurt that there's no sales tax in NH! Good luck not purchasing anything. read more

Be prepared to lose time here. The impression given by their gorgeous window display of LeCreusets and enameled colanders in lots of sizes and colors is reinforced within the store. Le Roux is one of those shops where I can spend hours just looking through stuff. I rarely cook and have a mild disdain for unnecessary kitchen gadgets that people think they need. But LeRoux has a great variety of random items. I particularly love their chocolate selection. They have some chocolates that are sold-by-the-piece, boutique-style, displayed in a glass case between the registers. These include little critters made with different combos of chocolates, ganache, nuts, etc. They also carry a nice assortment of chocolate bars. I like dark (preferably 70-85%) and flavored chocolates. Apparently the latter predilection will keep me from ever earning the (unwanted) title of "chocolate snob". Anyway, notable flavors/fillings in bars I purchased on my last visit: lavender, pumpkin seeds, pink peppercorns, rosebuds, and bacon. For me, LeRoux is a mandatory destination for every trip to Portsmouth. read more

This is perhaps my favorite kitchen store of all-time, and that's saying a LOT. Because I really like kitchen stores. They have everything you could possibly want for your cooking needs. And then some! On my most recent Leroux trip, my purchases included a Vermont-made maple cutting board in the shape of a hen (Merry Christmas, Mom!), a children's plastic "forklift" fork (Merry Christmas, nephew!), a variety of tiny bags of interesting types of popcorn (Merry Christmas, everyone in my family!), and Maine-made lemon poppyseed white chocolate (with a purpose TBD). Leroux carries all of the obligatory kitchen gadgets, but also has a wide variety of more interesting wares (aprons, towels, glasses) and edibles (NH-produced tea, a crazy selection of olive oils and vinegars, all open to sampling). Oh, and their collection of Le Creuset is unrivaled. Definitely stop in here if you're in Portsmouth. read more

Great olive oils and balsamic vinaigrettes you can refill for a discount if you bring the clean bottles back. The Sicilian lemon white balsamic vinegar is amazing on baked artichokes. I really would like to try their peach or strawberry balsamic vinaigrette, I sampled both of them, and both would taste very nice on salads. I bought a very nice bread knife from here. The staff is very helpful. Lots of kitchen items packed into a compact space. I bet you could find whatever kitchen items you needed in the store. read more

I fell in love with this store almost immediately. They have a wonderful selection of everything you need for your kitchen, from knives, to le creuset and all-clad, to utensils and gadgets. There prices are competitive as well. I wish I one of these at home! They have plenty of oils and vinegars to taste, but it would be more convenient if you could get little chunks of bread to taste them with. read more

LeRoux, LeRoux... a definite destination when I'm in town! I love to spend and hour just looking at everything in the store. I never knew how many kitchen gadgets I needed until I stood in awe in front of that first aisle. 15 different kinds of whisks? Heck yeah! A friend of mine bought me my scrubber brush holder for my kitchen. So cute, little piggy with an open mouth. They have just about every Le Creuset item. Who can afford it? I dont know, but it sure is nice to look at. My mother-in-law will not go to Portsmouth without picking up a few bottles of their 18-year balsamic vinegar. Highly recommended. read more

I happened by this little gem in Portsmouth on it's opening day and said to the boyfriend: "It's an omen. We must go in!" And so we did, and boy am I ever glad. This everything-kitchen shop is just fabulous. The owner was there, greeting people and working the cash register. They were staffed with several employees who were more than happy to help us find items or make suggestions based on what we were looking for. They had a great selection of awesome and helpful kitchen items, and the best part - the prices! I've grown accustomed to everything in that part of Portsmouth to be a little bit pricier than elsewhere, but they had absolutely great prices. We found some fantastic deals on things we had been putting off buying. This is a really great shop, and I look forward to going back. The staff (and owner especially) were super friendly and it was an all-around pleasant experience. I can't wait to see them again the next time I visit Portsmouth! read more

Holy mother, could I have spent a long time in this place. Luckily, I had a large man to restrain me before I spent enough time in there to buy one of EVERYTHING. They have pretty much everything you could ever dream of owning in here. I needed one thing: a cake rack. I got one. A big one. For $8. I think that's pretty reasonable. While cute and charming, if you are a serious cook, you can do much better (and save several bucks!) by going to Kitchen Etc. in Newington, NH. While it doesn't have the boutique feel of LeRoux, they have a better priced inventory. Also, why would you buy Le Creuset at boutique prices when the outlet for Le Creuset is in Kittery, less than 10 minutes away? Anyway, cute and boutique-y, and worth a peruse, but keep your wallet stuffed in your pocket/bag. read more

Great kitchen store! Like Devon W., I pretty much had to be dragged from this little shopping mecca. Great selection of everything kitchen, from oven/bakeware, all kinds of utensils, gadgets of every kind, a great selection of Le Creuset tea kettles (actually, I was drooling over a bunch of Le Creuset cast iron items *sigh*), and so many other lovely things, I was in a bit of a fog. There's also a section with food items, but sadly, I was yanked from the store before I had the chance to take a peak. :0( Can't wait to come back; I can do some serious damage here. read more

This wonderful store has long been a favorite and no trip to Portsmouth would be complete without a visit to LeRoux. However, our visit yesterday solidly confirmed their status as the best store around. We stopped in to purchase a Komachi knife (and if you've never used one, they are a great choice and VERY reasonably priced) as a gift. Afterward we headed to the Portsmouth Gas Light Grille for lunch (another good choice). Unfortunately, my holiday shopping brain was so distracted that when we left I left my purse and the LeRoux bag containing the knife. When we discovered that I didn't have either, we returned to the restaurant and they had found my purse and stowed it safely but had not found the bag with my new knife. Needless to say, I trekked back to LeRoux, picked out the same knife and headed to the checkout. The friendly ladies behind the counter recognized me and asked why I was buying the same knife I purchased a couple of hours ago. When I told them what had happened, in the true spirit of the holidays, I got a gift from them... a substantial discount off the price of the second knife. This was the nicest gesture I have ever received from a retail store and was certainly going above and beyond. You've got my kitchen shopping business (which is pretty hefty as I'm a very serious foodie) forever! Thanks, ladies! You've done a lot to restore my faith! read more

If I was talking solely about their flavored vinegars and olive oils than I would give them a 5 star rating. The fact you can sample all of the home made flavors is amazing because you see what you are getting. My two favorites area the Espresso Vinaigrette and the Tangerine Regretting! The staff is extremely knowledgable and the woman even showed me some combos to make my own marinade. The stuff is not cheap but I think you get what you pay for. The reason for 4 stars, their cooking utensils are a little high priced but I guess for that area its normal. I am an online shopper and often can find it cheaper on amazon however you can not get the homemade vinnaigrettes online so make sure you stop in if you are in Portsmouth! read more

They have a great assortment of items that can be managed by most any pocketbook. LeRoux has everything a home chef (or aspiring home chef) could want. From the looks on the outside, i didn't expect this store to have everything that it did. The prices are reasonable for the items they sell, and they sell a lot! I got some nice Maine sea salt and a few smaller gadgets. I have a feeling that I will be stopping in here on subsequent trips up to Portsmouth. The service was adequate, and definitely was not intrusive, which can be annoying. Holy cow the selection here is AWESOME! I'm a fiend for Japanese dishware and the options available were beautiful and fantastic and I walked out with two more for my collection. How could I say no? I also stumbled upon a few other little items that were extremely well priced and I've been needing in my kitchen stash for awhile. My husband did a few cost comparisons on Google while walking through the store and everything was reasonable... priced the same as online. Super! I could probably spend all day in here and it's a good thing I don't live closer because I'd be broke, but my kitchen would be incredibly well adorned. Great little store. Great customer service. This was one of my favorite stores in town. It is one of the types of stores I love to browse: floor-to-ceiling kitchen items and gear. Awesome. I always find something I need in a place like this, or a more unique/better version of something I already own. Like different collapsable spaghetti strainers or unique cutting boards, etc. Cool. I picked up a few things here, including chocolate with bacon in it. I don't recommend the chocolate, but I do recommend everything else in this store! read more

Its a nice store. I work in the restaurant industry and find that most of the products offered are for the home buyer/tourist. they have a lot of uni-tasking items and a lot of the prices are a bit steep. Definitely worth checking out. They also offer a 10% discount to restaurant employees if you present them with a pay-stub as proof of employment. read more

LEROUX KITCHEN is the best! I went to ATTREZZI and the owner was very rude! I had a few questions she couldnt answer so she got nasty, Her wine guy is a total idiot!!! Tells the worst stories on there wine when we all know there not true, Very Loud and very Annoying, He looked like he was stoned. The owner seemed racist because the way she would look at me. LeRoux has everything! I love shopping local retailers instead of the big box stores, and LeRoux does not disappoint. With the style and utility combo of Crate & Barrel, I would open a registry here (for something in the future...) if I lived in NH.
