This wasn't my first rodeo. Attrezzi fine kitchen accessories carries Portland New Hampshire on its BACK. I walk in and that little man tending to the cheeses has the BIGGEST smile on his face and it just buttered me up like a slice of bread waiting to be tested. There was a plethora of oil concoctions, crackers, wines (which I didn't try because I'm underage LOL), pretzels, cheeses and so many other delectable treats that I couldn't even dream up of if I tried. Now the star of the show was a little smorgasbord of a confection that consists of a cinnamon pretzel, pistachio spread and hazelnut chocolate spread. A Dubai masterpiece. I felt like Rihanna saying hello Dubai on a skyscraper. 10/10 homey experience that made me feel warm and fuzzy all over. Thank god for the beautiful man with a pony tail. Wow! What a wine tasting spread. They had it all, cured meats, dips and salsas. Their mulled wine was featured along with a non-alcoholic drink called a Hot Toddy. The wine was warm and had a sweet flavor. It was a nice touch on this rainy cokd December afternoon. We love stopping by this store every time we're in Portsmouth. They have great kitchen tools, from fun to practical, and make great gifts! They have a wide variety of dips, sauces, oils, cheeses, etc to try as well. Upstairs, they have a large wine tasting bar (free small tastings) and test kitchen where local cooks/bakers can come and serve/sell their delicious items. We sampled lavender salt and sugar last time, amazing! They have even more food samples upstairs as well, along with their large wine selection. I also love their chocolate red wine! read more

Attrezzi is good at what it does. It has a big selection of unusual and frequently overpriced things that people don't buy for themselves. If you're looking for a gift, this is a good choice. If I need something for my kitchen, this isn't the place. If I break a corkscrew, I know where to get one. If I want a jar of salsa, I know what kinds I like and they're not $10. It's what you'd expect from the touristy part of Portsmouth, it's a great place to find a gift but not a store for locals who are shopping for the things they need at home. The downstairs is full of gift items that you will pretty much find in any other gift shop you've been in. Yep, same old stuff. The upstairs gets a bit more interesting. Wine, and lots of food items as well as kitchen tools, glasses, etc. They normally have a ton of samples out for the tasting, but we were there early and they were just setting up. The wine selection is a nice mix of affordable and splurge wines. I did find a few items for a gift. Here's the thing about some of the kitchen items upstairs. I checked Amazon while I was there and the prices at Attrezzi were actually lower, so I bought a few things. As far as the "seen it all everywhere else" stuff - I have been coveting a pair of wine glasses forever but the price was just too high to justify them. The price here? Well, I am sipping out of one of those glasses while I'm writing this. Yes, it's early in the day, but it's snowing. Don't judge. read more

First (floor) impressions of the place: Oh, look. Another kitchen-y sto... whoops, I fell asleep because I was so bored. They have wine upstairs? Meh, while I'm waiting for my reservation at a restaurant nearby I guess I'll check it out... Second (floor) impressions of the place: EAT AND DRINK ALL THE SAMPLES!!! #canilivehere? #please? #noidontcareaboutmyreservationanymore! My advice? Make a beeline for the stairs and ignore that the first floor even exists. Everything that's down there can be found in a million other places and online. It's what awaits you upstairs that will win you over. The first time I visited Attrezzi there was a wine tasting by a seriously non-traditional wine guy (the best way to describe him would be a stereotypical Southie from Boston). He had a gruff, smokers voice; an unkempt appearance like he had just been our drinking whiskey all night then maybe was involved in a bar brawl or seven; and, was so charming I (and everyone - male, female, old, young - around me) was lured in like a moth to a flame. When I showed him my ID (of the twenty or thirty people in the packed room, he only asked for mine), he told everyone hat I was "the luckiest bastard" he had ever met, and that I should keep doing whatever it was I was doing to look so young. He then let me eat all the cheese I wanted (whereas he physically pulled the plate away from some of the jealous vultures nearby), because "I wasn't fat enough". What are you selling again? I don't even know. JUST TAKE MY MONEY. Oh, that's right, wine. Back to the wine. I got to try several complimentary samples of various red wines - none of which I had tried before (and I drink A LOT of wine) - all of which were explained in the most easily approachable laymen's terms I had ever heard. The guy was selling bottles left and right because of that, I believe. It's Attrezzi's goal "to entertain and play with passion and curiosity", and they're doing it darn well! But it didn't end there. Nearby were a tremendous amount of samples I wasn't expecting - samples of dips and sauces and cheeses smeared with dips and sauces. And I would have stayed there longer, but the vultures were literally pushing me out of the way to do exactly what I was trying to do (eat my weight in free snacks). So, here's what you need to know: 1. Skip the bottom floor, it's boring. 2. Attrezzi offers complimentary wine samplings EVERY Saturday and Sunday (you'll also get to try cheese and other tidbits). 3. They have cooking classes MULTIPLE times a week. 4. Attrezzi also hosts "special events" in their demonstration kitchen, which includes visits from celebrity chefs, special tastings, book signings, etc. FUN! read more

Love the shop, but very poor communication. I made a $166. Purchase and they were going to ship my items to me. I was told that it would be shipped on Monday. Today is Thursday and they haven't shipped my items. The owner doesn't return phone calls and has not followed up on my calls, text messages or phone calls. Extremely disappointing. I paid 60. Cash and charged the rest, so I can only dispute the amount on my card. The items I purchased were gifts. If you shop here do not ask them to ship. VERY DISAPPOINTED read more

I stopped in last week to see what was new and stumbled across their Carnitas Simmering Sauce while tasting a few of their dips and spreads that they have out for sampling. Tonight I made the Carnitas per the directions on the jar and it is amazing!!! We made tacos and added guacamole, shredded cheese and some slaw mix. They came out better than any local restaurant and the most work was cooking the meat which took 7 hours on low in the slow cooker. I WILL be making this again!! The store itself is lovely and the selection is outstanding. I highly recommend stopping in on a Sunday afternoon for the wine tasting and food samples or just the food samples which are wonderful after wandering around Portsmouth. Fun store right on the corner in Portsmouth! I remember when this store was a computer shop of sorts - this is a better fitting addition to the Portsmouth vibe. This place is adorable! Five stars for the upstairs wine tasting, 2/3 stars for the rest of the store. The store functions as a kitchen gadget place. Most of the goodies are overpriced gifts targeted to tourists. Every tourist town has one so it isn't anything special. But then you go upstairs and chat with a hilarious Irish man. He starts off with cheese he refers to as "dude" cheese. It was delicious! Probably the best cheese I've had in a long time. I didn't buy any because I had a 3 hour drive and would have probably devoured the entire block. He poured me three tastes of wine - one was a chocolate wine. Surprisingly delicious. All the while he told funny stories about his life. I bought a bottle of wine and heated it in the microwave like he recommended - wow! It was like drinking alcoholic hot chocolate. The store itself, is OK. Tons of unique items for your kitchen and bath. The store itself has 2 floors, with the cash register tucked wayyyy into the back of the first floor. Be prepared for a long line there, crowding everyone else trying to get around the super-narrow pathways around the displays of items and jewelry. Upstairs there is a totally cramped area of kitchen items - whisks and can openers, etc. There is a better selection and better displays of stuff like this at other stores in the area. There is a small wine selection up here as well. But be prepared to fight everyone else to get to it. Cramped doesn't describe it adequately. When we were there, they were doing wine tastings so you couldn't get CLOSE to the wine. We actually ended up going back later, because we wanted to try this "chocolate wine" they were touting that day. I finally was able to get a hold of the guy doing the pouring - who was trying to do his whole little spiel with me and get me to try everything he had - I told him to cut to the chase and just gimme this "chocolate wine" everyone was talking about. It was gross. The store is overly-cramped, and a mess to get through. The plus side? It's connected inside through a doorway to the bar/restaurant next door. Pop in real quick and hit the restrooms! What a great little shop. I'm glad I stopped in. There are lots of little gift ideas in this store for the cooking, wine drinking, jewelry loving, chocoholics you know. Yes it is a little pricey but hello, it's downtown Portsmouth. I don't mind the so-called "tourist traps" because they bring business to the town I live in and I like to give these local shops my business too. There is lots of really beautiful jewelry in here and really cute aprons for cooks and bakers in your life or for yourself. The kids aprons are adorable. Upstairs there is chocolate, wine and cheese and a really nice, funny guy who does wine sampling 7 days a week. Good price for the wines they have on special. 2 bottles for 20$. The cheese they had out today was delicious too. Lots of dips for you to try too. All the people that worked there were very friendly and all the nicknacks were fun to look at. A must stop as you are shopping in Portsmouth. We stopped in today and loved it. The first floor is adorable with a lot of cute craft like made items. Upstairs was even better! Wine and food tasting for all. Both of the women and owner were fantastic describing everything in detail from wine to the appetizer they made for us to try with one of their vinegars. I have always enjoyed stopping in to Attrezzi when I am visiting Portsmouth. I usually encounter a wine tasting on their second floor, which is always showcases some new and unique selections. I personally stay away from the kitschy stuff - like chocolate wine - but I understand why they offer it. Recently, I had a chance to go to the Wine and Chocolate Class. Awesome. The gentleman teaching the class was hilarious, and if you go, please ask him to play the ukulele. Worth the trip just for that. My downsides: The store is a little crowded and the wines are overpriced. I realize it's a specialty shop and they are entitled to do this, so more power to them. Just an observation. Also, they should sell cheese. Seems like it would go well with their more upscale wine selections. All in all, well worth the visit. read more

My wife and I purchased a butter dish from Attrezzi. Took it home, and to our surprise, it didn't fit a full stick of butter!?! (not long enough) Went to take it back with receipt in hand less than a week after purchase, and could not return it. ONLY exchange or store credit, no matter what the reason. Seems pretty crappy that you're not able to return something that does not work as advertised. It's a freekin butter dish, it has one purpose, and that's to store butter, and it failed! It was made in Japan, maybe the sticks of butter there are shorter ?? Come on, very bad customer service if you ask us. read more

This kitchen store was a little too shi-shi for me- overpriced and featuring "gourmet" jarred items. But they had a nice little wine tasting going on. The guy running the tasting was a salesman, for sure, but he had a good selection and was friendly enough. I do not mind paying 5 or 10 % more, if I get good service along with it. I recently purchased a Granite Beverage Dispenser from them. I was told the history of who / how made. The price was $200.00. Later that day, we drove to Portland Maine. I found the exact same product for $140.00. The following day I called Atrezzi and explained. The woman I spoke with couldn't believe the difference. she said the artist regulated the price, and that he constantly came in to check. She was going to call him, and get back to me. It is now three days later, not a peep. I then checked on line, and found several places selling the same product (Same artist) for the $140.00 price. Attrezzi is a rip off. If you like something, look elsewhere, I am sure you will find it less expensive read more

STAY AWAY!!!! Purchased a gift certificate for a $100 gift basket. Order the gift basket and WHAT A RIP OFF! They said it would be worth $100 and we look up each item on line and it barely came to $40 (being generous!). Tried to talk to owner but never returned our calls. Will NEVER go back and have spread the word about how horrible this place is. It was so much better when it first opened. Now it's like a thrift shop. I bought quite a few of their specially packaged items, which the gentlemen who runs the wine tasting was very knowledgeable about. This shop is a bit larger and more varied inside than I expected from a somewhat touristy storefront, and had interesting items throughout with a focus on wine and kitchen items upstairs. They were generous with samples to try of tapenade's, cheese, crackers and so forth, and when I'm back in town would love to see the demonstration area in action. This is my favorite and my husband's favorite shop downtown. We can never leave without buying something. There is an amazing kitchen upstairs where they have wine tasting and food tasting. I hear they even have classes! I love their new addition, fine chocolates made and sold by a lady.. I think her name is Debbie. She is sweet and her treats are even sweeter. I go to this store every time I am in Portsmouth. The guy that does the wine tasting is AMAZING! Every time I go in, there are 2 or 3 kinds to try for free along with some snacks. One of the best things I have ever bought is there Leek and Garlic seasoning/dip. UNBELIEVABLE! And I hear it is their #1 seller in the entire store.
