I don't know if I went to the show with too high of an expectation, but the truth is, I didn't walk away being fully blown away. I was adequately entertained, but not at the level that I came to expect from cabaret or burlesque shows in general. It's probably important to preface that I am more accustomed to seeing big production versions of shows in the same vein, such as Zumanity, in Las Vegas setting. And while I do realize entertainment of that caliber is in a different ballpark altogether, it's difficult not to compare. Billed as a homage to Tarantino films, which I know just (barely) enough to appreciate the many reference of the show, Tarantina is still a very grounded cabaret show at heart, and only superficially dipped in the Tarantino universe icing. If you're expecting it to be a movie celebration extravaganza, which I kinda did, you may be a little bit disappointed. If you're just there for a good time, to observe some talented ladies (and one token well-toned, constantly shirtless dude) perform, while you sit back and relax with a drink, this show delivers enough. The ticket price was... eh. VIP was too expensive, I wouldn't recommend anyone getting it. The GA, at $39 or so per person, including fees and all that, was a bit on the high side still, imho. I don't want to take anything away from the performers of the show, for I know all of them are disciplined artists that probably trained for their crafts with much time and dedication; nonetheless, I've just seen better, and some of them really failed to impress audience like me. Once you've seen the same tricks, but done arguably better, you'll probably feel the same. Not to be a total Debbie Downer, I do want to emphasize, there were definitely moments that I much appreciated: the MC was positively well cast. She was entertaining, one of the best parts of the show, and all she did was talk into the microphone... *with undeniable charisma*. The way she introduced each subsequent act, with brief explanation of which Tarantino film it related to, JUST FANTASTIC. I could hear her talk on and on. The one buff dude that was the token eye candy for the ladies and gay dudes, who doubled as prop master, who carried essential equipment on and off stage, was also a blessing. Of the acts that I got to see, (sadly I had to leave early due to work the next day, the show's being shown on a Thursday night and all), some were really good. Some were not so good. I do wanna list out some of the more memorable ones that I thought were worth your undivided attention. There was someone who danced with a python, along with some fire stunts. That screamed prime Britney, and therefore I ate that sh*t up. In fact, any time special flame effects were used, those were quite awesome. The ladies who exposed their perfect... uh... "female form", as the club called it, carried out a tasteful and sexy performance. Visually stunning, it was 1 of more memorable moments. There's a pure dance number, accompanied by "California Dreamin'", that was choreography heaven. It provided glimpses of what a professional dance number should look like. The fan blowing was a nice touch. As some put it, it was like watching "Dancing with the Stars". Finally, the Gogo Yubari number was also top-notched. Side note: if you're looking to see some serious boobage, then please be aware, and I quote from the MC, "this is a cabaret, and not a burlesque show". Frontal nudity is only occasionally featured. Of things that I didn't mention, some were still good. I just can't recall them off the top of my head right now. In contrast, remaining others were ok/mediocre, and a select few were sub-par. Had the pricing been lower, or had every single act been consistently solid, the act would've merited at least 4 stars from me. But right now, I would rate it 3.5 stars, but closer to the rounded 3 stars mark. I do, however, fully acknowledge that I might've missed some really great parts that were shown after my departure. The costume contest after the show, for instance, would've been wonderful to witness since some patrons were rocking some movie-grade wardrobes from the iconic films. (And just quickly circling back to the theme: if the costumes for the show, the decorations, and the routines were more heavily inspired & influenced by the Tarantino films, it would probably have pushed the ratings higher also. But hey, they did get the music/soundtracks right.) Overall, I see a show that has room for improvement, run by a group of individuals that could be showcased more properly with some better directions. But who cares what I think? Plenty of people in the audience were clearly enjoying themselves immensely. So go see for yourself instead. As a fun Thursday night on the town in the greater city of LA, it might just be enough.

Clearly they did not pay to sit there and I am still peeved about that. I would not pay for a loveseat again since anybody can just sit there if it's empty and nobody will call you out for it. I decided to treat myself and buy a loveseat ($80ish) so that I wouldn't be squished with other people and I just hope that this doesn't happen to anybody else. I kind of regret buying it because of that. The show was entertaining though and the drinks were good. The ambiance is nice.

Came here last night for the All Star Comedy show at 9:45pm, and overall it was a great night out…read more-- with one frustrating hiccup at the door. I found the show through an ad promoting a 2-for-1 ticket deal: two tickets for the price of one ($15), with a two-drink minimum per person. The 2-for-1 was in the ad and even printed on the ticket itself. But when we went to scan in, the older gentleman checking tickets told us that wasn't how it worked. When we pointed out that it was exactly what had been advertised and says on the ticket, he said he'd "do us a favor" and let us in this time, but told us to "take care of our server." The venue wasn't full -- we were seated in the first section, and the upstairs wasn't being used at all -- so it's hard not to wonder if this was less about ticket policy and more about steering people toward bigger tips for the servers. Either way, it was a rough way to start our first visit to the Laugh Factory. Fortunately, everything after that was great. The hosts and comedians were hilarious, the servers were attentive, the drinks were good, and the venue itself was comfortable. I'd absolutely come back -- I'd just call ahead first to confirm ticket details so I don't have to deal with that unwelcoming entry experience again.

The scene crowd dresses up classy and dapper. The guest DJs are serious collectors, so you may not recognize some of the songs, but it's usually upbeat and happy music. It's fun to watch people dance - there is no grinding and baby-making on the dance floor here. Everyone is respectful of each other and their space bubble. Taking a dance class is something that I never thought I would ever do again - last…read moretime I was in dance I was in 7th grade, about 200 lbs, and cried when I had to dance in front of other people. My great friend Taylor decided that she wanted to give this class a shot (they had a $15 groupon) and talked me into it. I'll do anything for the promise of Margaritas. We were laughing and joking all the way there. Then when we got there and saw all the perfectly skinny b****es we began to feel a little bit nervous. We were joking about sticking to the back, our bellys jiggling, and not being able to get up off the floor. Lets just say compared to some of the women here we did not feel too sexy at the beginning (especially the blonde that was helping out with the class. She was like the definition of perfect). The instructors really put us at ease though. They let us know that this was not so much the "traditional" burlesque but moreso a CONTEMPORARY burlesque class - it was something different than I was expecting, but still amazingly fun! The class was compiled of a small group of all women. There were bachelorette parties, small groups of friends, and some women who were really serious and you could tell that they were going to put their $15 to use and seriously get their freak on after that class. It was revitalizing to see that 95% of the class showed up in sweatpants and tank tops - except for the few women that showed up in booty shorts. I'll say it once and I'll say it again. Skinny b****es ! We started off with some stretches and leg lifts. I had just gotten off an 8 hour shift of carrying around 30 lbs of gear and a kevlar vest so at times I felt like I couldn't lift my legs off the floor. There were stretches and moves that I hadn't done since high school cheer. Yet the instructors made sure to reiterate that everything was okay, and that everyone has their own level of what they are able to do and not feel bad. We learned some awesomely sexy moves such as the "sexy hair shake" (which I suppose only works if you've brushed your hair that day...), "sexy leg kicks" (think Bettie Page taking off her stockings), and the "sexy way to get off the floor" (arch your back and smile - always smile - scowling your face does not look sexy even though if you're out of shape like me your core will hurt!). We also did the sexy catwalk in groups of 3/4 across the room. Despite our best efforts Taylor and I were trying to stay together but we always ended up apart. It was fun to give ourselves kudos and complements as we strutted to some old school Britney. The fun part of the class came when we learned the burlesque dance. It had several 8 counts to it and was to a very, very, very sexy TLC song. There was booty shaking - hair flipping, leg spreading, tata shaking, and sexy strutting! It was super fun to learn and the instructors broke it down to nice simple combinations and went at the speed of the slowest person in the class (which was mostly me!). Although I am not very refined, and my version of "sexy" also included my knees cracking so loudly and me grunting when I was trying to get up that everyone erupted in laughter (even me!) I still had such an amazing time in this class. By the time the class had finished I had mastered (well in my mind....which is what counts!) a good portion of the dance and I felt a lot sexier than when I went in. I really recommend it to any lady that would love to try it and trust me bring a friend, take some shots before hand, and you will have a seriously great time!

There were tons of people who showed up to dance. The had a dance floor right on the pier! Overall fun time. Other concerts were just as good. My favorite was, Australia Rocks the Pier. There are many other concerts that are coming up during the summer. Most of them start at 7pm. And the shows usually go on for about two hours. I would suggest that you come early. Find a good spot to sit at. Bring a picnic blanket. A picnic basket...And have a picnic on the pier while watching live music. It doesn't get any better than this. There is also an option to picnic down below at the beach. It's a little darker there. But there are tons of people who go there too. From down there you're able to see the concert on a large jumbo-tron that they have. Parking for this place was pretty easy to find. I usually parked at the parking structure attached to the Santa Monica Place and walked down from there.

I recommend parking at SM Place, or any of the parking lots adjacent to the promenade. Parking near the pier can prove to be a nightmare during the concert times. Getting in is not hard at all. The line can get long, but it goes by fast. Security is provided by SMPD and LA County Sheriff's. The cops were very nice, and I appreciated them keeping any trouble makers out of this event. The concert itself was enjoyable. The group playing was great, and expanded my horizons as far as music goes. There were props all over the place, which were great. The lighting could use some improvement, as well as the main band's timing (they were 40 minutes late). But all in all, it was a good time and a good way to end the summer.
