So I applied to multiple rescue places looking for a puppy to adopt. Let them live was the first to respond and set up an appointment to let me come meet the dogs. There were not so many hoops to jump through like other rescues. Many of the other ones wanted to do a home inspection and have interviews before I could even meet the dog. After receiving the email and setting the appointment, I started to do some research and there were some bad reviews saying how terrible they were. But there were also some good reviews. I decided to go and check it out for myself. I went by myself so I was a little freaked out when google maps said I had arrived and I was on a street of trailer homes with no addresses. I sent an email saying I was there but not sure what house. They responded right away and told me where to go. I pulled in and the lady came outside and waved. Once inside I was relieved. After meeting the dogs and talking with them a while I felt comfortable adopting from them. I wasn't sure yet so I left and thought about it over night and came back in the morning to get her. This was the foster home that they were in. They were very friendly while I was there. Some things to consider. I paid cash and got a hand written receipt. They micro chipped her themselves while I was there and I had to hold the dog while she did it. Later I saw that it was expired. (But like how does a microchip expire? It still works) There are several dogs living in the small home that stay in crates. They are not potty trained because there are too many puppies at once and one lady caring for them. There were vet records and had the first round of parvo shots but had not been dewormed. That being said, my puppy was perfectly healthy. They were very friendly. Though everything may not be by the books, she was very loving and caring for the dogs. She gave them love and attention. My puppy still loves being in her crate and never cried through the night when I took her home because she was already comfortable in one. So in summary if you are looking for the perfect puppy and want everything to be 100% official then this place is not for you. But if you fall in love with a dog on their website and you're not too concerned with the details and just want to provide a loving home ... go for it! Not a rescue! This place is a scam! This person has been reported to the police. We bought a puppy for $600, and then when it was time to get her she wouldn't give us the address or her name, and said the puppies were sick. I called veterinarians in Taylorsville, and the police, and they said this place didnt even exist. Horrible situation! read more

I've seen a lot of older reviews about Let Them Live Rescue and Amy Verder. I'm still confused and hurt by my experience with her, however I recognize that what I consider shameful, might be consider okay business practice by others. Here's a full recap of what happened so that you may all decide if she's someone you want to do business with. On a Thursday evening I reached out via email regarding a puppy of hers I saw listed on PetFinder. In the email I asked if the puppy was still available and proceeded to give a run down of my family and why we were drawn to this particular dog. While waiting for a reply I spent some time researching the rescue, and I stumbled upon some unfavorable reviews from years ago. I did also come across lovely reviews and campaigns, and ultimately decided to have faith, because the good seemed to outweigh the bad. Everyone has a bad day or bad experience. The world and internet especially seem to enjoy highlighting the negative. She responded fairly soon that evening to my initial email and said she was looking for a family like ours and asked me to fill out an application, which I did immediately. She was entirely upfront about the fact that he had a suspected hernia and hadn't been neutered yet. So from a health standpoint, things seemed on the up and up. We knew there were other applicants that she said she hadn't had time to review yet, due to personal issues. I'd seen through my internet search that she had cancer in the past, so I assumed she's juggling a lot personally. I responded with more questions about his health and she was polite, even saying that he would be fully cleared to adopt after his vet appointment the next afternoon. She asked up if we could travel the 3 hours on Saturday, because she was leaving on Sunday for a few weeks. If that last minute request didn't work then she said we could come up as soon as she got back, which I replied that I'd be happy to do! (I was leaving the next day for a weekend long conference.) I quickly reserved a hotel room for that weekend, and starting planning a family trip to visit Savannah for the weekend and bring home our puppy. Sunday evening I emailed her because my husband and I were considering if we could adopt the puppy's mom, since we didn't want to separate them. She responded telling me that she thinks she found someone to adopt the puppy, but we could have his mom. Wait! Did I misunderstand the emails and scheduled upcoming trip? When was she going to tell us that she had adopted out the dog that we'd emailed back and forth over AND she asked us to travel 3 hours to meet and possibly take home that day? Furthermore, she has yet to respond to either email I've sent asking for clarification, or confirmation that he's been adopted and we should cancel our hotel reservation. I do see the puppy has been removed from PetFinder, so I can only assume she's officially given him to someone else. Did she do something illegal? No. There was no contract signed. There was no money exchanged. However, I don't feel these are the actions of a kind business owner. She found someone willing to pay her immediately, and instead of honoring a previous arrangement she thought of the money instead. I guess the good news in all of this is that a puppy has been adopted and has hopefully found his forever home. The sad news is that it wasn't the forever home we were led to believe it was going to be and I have some very heartbroken little boys who are grieving the puppy they were planning to name Oliver, and who won't be joining our loving home. read more

I wish I had done research on this rescue prior to adopting a dog from them. I sent $600 to reserve a puppy from a litter that had been born on 10/14/19. According to the rescue, this litter of puppies was rescued from a bad backyard breeder situation. I was informed that I would be able to bring the puppy home around 15 weeks of age to insure a vet clearance and all necessary vaccinations. Not wanting to be a bother to what I thought was a well managed organization, I only emailed twice after my initial adoption; once in early December for an update and again in early January, two weeks before the puppy would have been 15 weeks old, for final travel plans and pick up date. In early December she replied saying the puppies were doing great and sent a picture. However, when I emailed her to plan an exact date to pick up, I received what looked like an automated message telling me the puppies have been deemed too ill to be adopted and my money will be refunded. I work with dogs and have been for years so I understand that this kind of thing is in no ones control, however, I am extremely disappointed with the lack of communication from this rescue in regards to a puppy that was technically already mine as I had paid full price up front. Any time I asked what the puppies were sick with I was ignored and never given any answers, or even a chance to see if I could afford to treat the dog as its owner. Also, it was not until I asked for final plans that this news was given to me, and I often wonder when she would have said anything to me had I not emailed. The cherry on top is that when i requested my money back through Paypal, Paypal contacted me to let me know that the rescue was disputing the refund and the transaction needed to be further investigated. Thankfully, Paypal refunded me after questioning what happened and apologized for my negative experience. After this whole ordeal I did some research on this organization and its founder, Amy Verder. I encourage you to read up on your own time, but the things I read included a lot of suspicion of scams, Amy claiming to be a vet who "just didn't get certified," illegal dosing of dogs with propofol, deathly sick dogs being adopted out with fake health certificates, or dogs being promised to families only to be adopted to someone else at the last minute. In my gut, I know that the puppy I was anticipating to give a better life either did not exist or was given to someone else. I will never know what really happened, but I hope I can spare someone by writing this. Please, adopt elsewhere. read more

I paid to "adopt" a dog from Let Them Live Rescue. When it came time, the owner, Amy Verder, would not give me direct answers regarding time/date for pickup, location of the dog, foster family information, etc. and eventually blocked me on social media (after calling, leaving a voicemail, sending emails, texting, and direct messaging her on Facebook to no avail). After blocking me, she finally sent me an email that made no sense at all and gave away the fact that I had been scammed. It was angrily written, it accused me of asking "questioning allegations", and she ended it by saying I can no longer adopt "in due to puppies not being healthy for adoption". I doubt the dog ever existed, as she sent photos of different puppies and was very inconsistent with her stories. read more

Do NOT adopt an animal from this rescue. I adopted a puppy from this shelter a few days ago (late May, 2011), and the puppy has parvovirus. This is a very contagious, fatal virus in dogs and cats. The "rescuer," Amy Verder, refuses to accept the diagnosis from my vet. Even worse, she knew the little pup had been exposed to parvovirus, did not quarantine the litter, did not have them tested, told me my puppy was healthy and would send vet papers, did not send me vet papers, and sent the little thing to me across state lines. She continues to "rescue" animals and adopt them out. She is not sterilizing her facility. She arranged a "transporter" to bring the puppy to me. I requested the transporter business contact information, and she would not provide it. Turns out, the transporter was just one of her friends. At 11 pm this "transporter" shows up on my doorstep with a sick little puppy, bloated with worms, skin and bones, and suffering from parvovirus. The transporter handed me an envelope and said there were vet papers inside. She handed me a diarrhea and vomit soaked blanket and told me I could keep it. Gee, thanks. Before I could even open the envelope the woman left. Inside was simply a "certificate of examination," which noted that the puppy had been exposed to parvovirus. Amy did NOT notify me of this fact before I received the animal, and when I had inquired about the health, she had actually told me there were "no health concerns." She is at the vet right now, and likely will not make it. My options were to spend between $900-$2000 dollars treating her or euthanize her. I couldn't choose the latter... although I did not expect this or choose this situation, I am all this little dog has right now. But Amy's facility needs to be investigated and shut down. There is nowhere to post a review on Petfinder.com or report this nonsense. I am trying to contact the appropriate authorities to have her place investigated. In the mean time, do not any animals from this facility. Update: After a week and a half and well over $1,000 in vet care, my puppy has survived. She is doing well and finally has some fat on her bones. At 9 weeks old, she was about the size of a 3-4 week old for her breed type. But now she's getting big :) I called the vet in Kentucky that issued the certificate - he thinks the certificate was not written for my dog because the dates do not match (between the certificate and the date Amy told me the examination was performed) and the weights between my puppy (upon arrival) and a couple days prior with the cert. exam do not make sense. Additionally, Amy was supposed to provide me with records of vaccinations. The vet in Kentucky said he did not provide any. Amy then emailed me a photocopy of some vaccination cards. There is no indication on the cards when the vaccines were issued and no indication as to which dog. When a person gives an animal vaccines themselves, they are supposed to take the upc sticker off the vaccination tube and place it on the records. You will not get that with Amy at "Let Them Live Rescue." My vet is now treating my puppy as if she has had no vaccinations, because as far as records go, she has had none. I strongly urge you to go to your local humane society. read more

I have never known anyone who works as hard for the animals as Amy does. She gives her all. Not only does she take in the animals no one else wants or will fight for, she goes through chemotherapy infusions every 4 weeks. Her volunteers are amazing as well. These animals in her care are amazingly happy and well taken care of. read more

Do not adopt from let them live rescue. They offered puppies for adoption and when I asked for photos they sent the same ones over and over claiming to be recent. When it was time to pick the pup that best suits my family they sent me photos of puppies photoshopped from several different internet sites. Some "puppy" photos were YEARS old!! BUYER BEWARE! You and your family will be heartbroken......... read more

She gave MY dog away. Gave a deposit to allow me to pick up the dog another day as a Xmas gift to my partner. Made several attempts to contact by email and phone with no success. They made no attempt to contact me and on the day I was supposed to pick up the dog an email was sent to me informing me they'd placed the dog to another home! NO CONTACT WHAT SO EVER. This is a terrible way to run a business much less a pet adoption. read more

My husband and I adopted two puppies from Let Them Live rescue. We had to rush them to the vet the very next day. Turns out they were infected with giardia, coccidia, worms and PARVO! One of the puppies is staying at the vet right now battling for his life. We contacted her to let her know about their condition and to try to recover some of the "adoption" fees to help with the vet bills, however, she has refused to take any responsibility. I have had three different vets comment on the lack of care and attention these puppies received prior to us adopting them. There needs to be some sort of guidelines for facilities such as Amy's. read more

We rescued 2 sister pups from Bev in Rineyville. We were told they had their rabies vaccines and were up to date on shots. ALL LIES! We took them to the vet to find out they even lied to us about their ages. Nothing they tell you about their dogs is true. They are using these poor animals to make money and that is all. Not long after we had to return one dog for being vicious towards her sister, and biting my 4 year old in the face. It took 2 weeks to be able to have them agree to take the dog. I explained I needed the dog gone before family came to town to ensure no one else would get hurt. Bev proceded to text me that "i was acting like a child and was an irresponsible pet owner" all for trying to protect my children and save the dog from being put down by animal control for biting. She cussed me out. When they wouldnt give me a time to bring the dog back i said i would fine her a home myself. Bev threatened me with court because "contract says you have to return her to us" well I was trying to return her and they were refusing! And after her scarring my childs face I had no legal obligations to return her when they wouldnt take her! This is a joke of a rescue! I feel bad for all of the dogs in Beverly's care. This "rescue" needs to be shut down! I have screenshots of the horrible way Beverly speaks to people it is honestly pathetic. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

This is my experience trying to adopt a dog from this organization. I first contacted LTLR around the first of Nov. 2012, trying to adopt "Emma" a flat coated retriever mix I found on Petfinders. I called, spoke with Amy and then was disconnected. I called back over and over, leaving message after message. No response. I emailed her and finally got a response. She said yes, Emma was available so I filled out an application online and also wrote a letter to attach indicating how much I wanted this dog for my husband as we had to put our dog to sleep in Sept. I wanted to give him this dog as a Christmas gift. I live in VA and Emma was in KY so I needed plenty of time to make this happen which is why I contacted Amy over a month in advance. After she received my email she contacted me saying how she was so touched by the letter and she felt Emma was supposed to be with us. Well since that time i emailed over and over trying to arrange ti get the dog and only occasionally would i get a response, but there would always be an excuse. Finally the perfect opportunity came for me to get Emma - a friend of mine would be driving to KY to see her parents and she would get Emma if someone could just meet her about 30 min. From where Amy lived. Amy would never respond to emails. The adoption fee for the dog was $300 so via email I offered $400 if she would just have someone meet my friend. She kept putting me off until it was too late, my friend had to leave to come back. Christmas came and went - told my husband about what was going o be his Christmas surprise - h said well, we will just drive to KY and pick her up. Emailed Amy and told her, her response was "my husband has work to do in VA in Jan. and we will bring her to you." she added, "you will jut love her". Well, I have emailed her twice asking when they are coming and guess what - No Response!!! it is now almost 3 mos. since I first contacted Amy about Emma and I am giving up. I am so disappointed and angry - this is NOT the way to run a "credible" rescue/adoption agency. I would NOT recommend trying to adopt from LetThemLive Rescue. I was strung along and lead to believe I would get this dog and I was lied to numerous times during this ordeal. Save yourself some time and misery and choose to adopt from one of the many HONEST rescue organizations who truly do want to find animals a good home! read more
