It's only a YEAR later that I'm getting around to writing this review, and the experience with this company still makes me tear up, with gratitude! As a first-time client, I had some special requests, like keeping my dog's body for a few days while I finalized ideas for memorabilia. They honored my wishes with such grace and compassion. When I needed an urn, they went above and beyond, showing me their inventory so I could select the perfect one, as each wood option was uniquely cut and meaningful. Their attention to detail and genuine care for my situation made such a difference. Despite my attempts to give them a cash tip as a thank-you, they kindly refused and asked that I leave a review instead. So here it is (a YEAR later): Caring Pathways offers incredible service with a truly compassionate touch. I can't recommend them enough. The vet, Kaity, and her assistant that came to help us were just as much of a blessing as the ladies at the mortuary. You're all just the most extraordinary team of humans!! Thank you, again!!!! With love, from Teresa & Bourbon.

I brought my nine-year-old Pomeranian to Animal Urgent Care after a seizure because his regular…read moreveterinarian had not yet opened. I approved bloodwork to look for metabolic causes of the seizure. The bloodwork was useful and ultimately showed no obvious peripheral cause. What I found frustrating was discovering that an IV catheter had also been placed at a charge of $120. I do not recall consenting to catheter placement; I recall specifically consenting to the bloodwork. No fluids or medications were administered through the catheter during his visit. The medical record states that catheter placement was approved, which does not match my recollection of the conversation. After several hours, the treatment provided consisted of examination/observation, bloodwork and placement of the unused catheter. Hospitalization for continued neurologic observation was recommended, which I declined in favor of taking him home and following up with his regular veterinarian, who knows his neurologic history and current medications. I understand why an emergency clinic might want IV access available in case another seizure occurs. My concern is not that the clinicians considered it medically reasonable; my concern is that a $120 procedure was performed that I do not believe I authorized, and I did not understand until later that the catheter had not been used to administer any treatment. In an emergency, owners are frightened and making decisions quickly. Clear communication about what is being proposed, what it costs, whether it is diagnostic, therapeutic or precautionary, and obtaining explicit consent before proceeding are extremely important. My primary concern is the IV catheter and the lack of consent. The catheter had already been placed before the veterinarian came to speak with me. I was never asked whether I authorized placement of an IV catheter, and I was never told that it would cost $120. What I was specifically asked to authorize was the emergency/triage evaluation and the bloodwork, which I approved. The medical record subsequently states "IVC placement approved." That is not an accurate account of what occurred. I did not approve catheter placement. By the time the veterinarian discussed the diagnostic plan with me, the catheter was already in my dog. It was never used to administer medication or IV fluids. When I decided to take him home, I also had to specifically request that it be removed. Ultimately, I paid $610 and left without any treatment having been administered to my Pomeranian for the seizure--no seizure medication, no fluids, and no other therapeutic intervention. I understand that examination, bloodwork and observation have value, but for our particular situation this emergency visit was not worth the cost or the additional stress to my dog and me. In the future, I will make a seizure-management plan with his regular veterinarian so I know exactly when emergency care is warranted. His regular veterinary clinic opened approximately 40 minutes after I arrived here; in retrospect, I wish I had kept him safely confined and comfortable and waited for his own veterinarian. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic.

From an Aggressive cat to a happy cat! After difficult experiences with taking my cat to the vet ,…read moreand the vet being limited in treatment, health checks and vaccinations due to the cat's extreme stress and aggressive behavior, I decided to spend the extra money and try at home care for my highly anxious cat. The vet and her technician came on time. Before they arrived, they reached out to me and advised me to put my cat in a safe and closed place, so I put her in the bathroom. Because of my cat's behavior, I was unable to get her to take gabapentin, so I was worried that they might not be able to treat her and give her the vaccines. When the vet, Dr Allie, and her very capable tech came, she asked me a few questions about the cat and then they both, the vet s and the tech went into the bathroom with their medical equipment. I told them to be careful and take their heavy gloves for protection, which they did. I waited nervously outside the door waiting to hear much commotion and cat hisses, growing out snarls. Instead, I heard 2 meek meows and a couple of hisses and after less than 10 minutes, the door opened with my cat sauntering out with her tail held up and perfectly fine, followed by the vet and the tech! My cat even rubbed affectionately up against the legs of the vet team happily! The vet not only was able to administer the cat the vaccines but she was able with the help from her tech, to examine the cat and trim off some matted fur! I concluded that even though this was more expensive than taking the cat in a carrier to the vet's office and dealing with an angry cat, it was worth it for not just the cat but for me in terms of avoiding stress.

Unfortunately, my most recent visit was a completely different experience. This appointment was my dog's annual checkup after he had recently survived a very serious illness. Because of everything he'd been through, I wanted to be involved in his exam and have the opportunity to discuss his recovery with the veterinarian. After we were placed in an exam room, the technician told me she was taking my dog to the back for a heartworm test and would be right back. Instead, more than 20 minutes passed. When she finally returned, I learned that his physical exam had already been completed and all of his vaccines had already been given while he was in the treatment area. The veterinarian did come into the exam room afterward, but by then I was so surprised and upset that the entire exam had already taken place without me that I wasn't able to have the conversation I had been hoping for. After everything my dog had recently been through, I had expected to be present for his examination and to discuss his recovery before it was over. To make matters worse, some of the information the technician relayed to the veterinarian was inaccurate, which only reinforced my concern that I wasn't included in the conversation about my dog's health. The following day, I received an automated text asking how Jack was doing. I replied by explaining my concerns about the appointment and how disappointed I was with the experience. I never received a response or acknowledgment from anyone at the clinic. Veterinary care is expensive, and I'm happy to pay for quality care. But I also expect to be part of my dog's examination and to have direct communication with the veterinarian, especially after a major medical event. I don't know why the clinic changed its procedures, but this experience was a significant step backward from the level of care and communication I had come to expect.
