This is my second time getting my hair done from Antoinette. Each time she's been so rude and standoffish -- something told me to just check online and see if anyone else has had this experience with her... IM APPALLED at the reviews on here about her customer service. Yes they are 4,5 yrs old but they're all still TRUE unfortunately :/ She does a great install but her attitude is unlike anything i've ever experienced. It's ALSO sad that folks wouldn't be able to do their proper research before booking her service- -here's why: 1) you must put a deposit down on her website to confirm an appointment. 2) her website/social media notes she's a traveling hairstylist, so there's no address to associate with her. 3) We don't get the address of this salon until a few days before the appointment in a text confirmation. So essentially, you must pay + get the service done by her one time (or more) in order to see the bad reviews on her. If you should happen to stumble upon the reviews once she gives you this address, it's still too late because your appointment is in too close of proximity to change around your plans. And you'd lose your deposit if you cancel. And EVEN THEN it's only if you look up her name in Yelp that this comes up. By that time, she's already gotten your money, lol! This is a long review but please read before you book with Antoinette (InAntoinettesChair) I've had my hair done by Antoinette a couple times. She wasn't the nicest but never directly rude to me. However, she's not someone i felt i could comfortably talk to if i didn't like something. Always sucking her teeth and CONSTANTLY on her phone every few minutes. But my hair came out nice. It's a very rushed service though. No oil in the braids and you have to come with your hair washed and blow dried. After a few years i went back to her because there was no one else. I went for a curly versatile sew in. The first two times it was okay but she also has the habit of last minute changing the appointments, which is very unprofessional. The second time i went i asked her in advanced if i could purchase a longer bundle for more length and she agreed. The MORNING of the appointment she calls and says she couldn't get it and if i could go in the next day and she'll have it. (When i gave her plenty notice.) I was annoyed and needed my hair done for an event so i just said to forget the bundle. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt so I went back to her this last time for the length i originally wanted. She gets me the length but then cuts it too short and i tell her that i wanted to add more length and if I could go back another day. She reluctantly says yes but CHARGES ME first $100 and then i say that i don't think i should be charged that much and then she lowers it to $80 and says thats the lowest price she can do. I'm over her and the situation at that point so i just say okay as long as i can get what i originally paid for because i had already paid $230 for the service and $110 for the bundle that she cut too short. Plus tip. So she tells me DAY OF my appointment that she tried to accommodate me but can't and that i could go back another day. I reluctantly agreed because she has my money now so I'm going. Finally that day comes and she tries changing the appointment AGAIN. I tell her i can't because i have work and a life?? And tells me to just come in later that day. I'm beyond annoyed at this point and ask her one more time to confirm because i know how she works. She then calls me a while later and says just come in now. Are you serious?? The only reason i wanted to go back was because she definitely ripped me off and i was getting my moneys worth. The appointment was super rushed, then the same thing happens. She has her dad cut my hair which bless his heart he's the owner and his daughter is giving him all the bad reviews. He's very sweet but ultimately it comes out horrible. While I'm getting my hair cut by him, she's making reservations to go eat with her friend and is basically out the door before i say if i like it or not. The hair is thin and horrible. Despite paying in advance for services & products, Antoinette most likely will NOT render services or deliver products. You'll be lucky if you, the customer, will even get a response from her after issuing payment. I wish someone would have warned me about antoinettelisa / inantoinetteschair. Talented, yes. Professional, no. Customer Service, none. Integrity, none. Accountability, none. Arrogance, plenty. If you're willing to lose money and/or time, take the risk. But if you're not - there are tons of other reputable stylists & hair retailers out there. But, based on MY personal experience & the experiences of the other reviewers in here, Antoinette isn't one of them. I love Level One salon! Terry is amazing and always gets me right. He's been in business for many years and I always feel comfortable going to him. I stopped for a while because I got into wearing weaves and such, but now I'm back to natural life and couldn't be more happier! He cut, colored it blonde (first time ever), and styled it so my curls were on fleek! I absolutely love it and can't wait to see what other styles I'm able to try. Also, the staff there is so friendly and all do great work. They even have specialized nail technicians and a barber if you want to add those services. They even provide you with water and snacks, and will occasionally have Caribbean food for the customers. Love this salon! read more

Eh, this was sitting in my drafts since August! At the time, my affair with straight hair was soon to be over. Soon temperatures would drop, allowing my natural fro to reclaim it's glory upon my crown. However...during the meantime, I'd been seriously enjoying experimenting with straight hairstyles over the summer. It's was so easy! It took no time to do in the mornings and my beautiful drunken summers nights did not leave me in a state of disaster, come morning time. As hair salons go, Level 1 is a bit above average. They have about 7 stylists who seem to maintain their own clientele. I arrived with no appointment seeking a short banged bob, and was taken as a walk-in. We settled on pricing upfront - $70 buck for the weave, and walked around the corner to pick up the hair from a local beauty supply store. All in, two beauticians worked on my head for about three hours - washing, sewing, and styling. Given how much I hate getting my hair done, I'd say I had a pleasant time. The weave was decent, though the hair was not to my liking so much. I'd be back in a pinch for a quick weave, but next time I'll bring my own hair. read more

A Trip Wasted Came across Antoinette's Instagram page and really wanted to get my hair done by her. Booked my appointment about a month in advance and bought a ticket to New York with excitement. Traveled from DC to only get canceled on the morning of my appointment. Granted I was told via text at 6:30 am that there was an emergency, which I understand happens. Terri is a great hairdresser who truly cares about you and the health of your hair. He uses the best natural products to protect your hair. He is always professional, positive and courteous. He doesn't rush his customers but takes time to really feel how your hair is doing before proceeding. I would recommend him to anyone who wants the hair they were born with we'll taken care of. Got my hair done professionally for the first time in years. I like this salon, I will be back for sure. The salon is very cozy and clean. Music selection is superb (90s r&b/2000's neo soul) you can just come and get lost in the moment while getting your hair done. The hairdresser, an older woman of Caribbean descent, she's awesome. Antoinette is VERY Unprofessional and Rude. She showed up extremely late and carried an attitude as if she was upset that she had a service to rendure. Do not let the social media fool you! I guess if you do not have thousands of IG followers she doesn't have respect for that type of clientele. I wanted to patronize a young black women who I thought was on top of things.. sad to say it was not worth it at all, due to her Unprofessionalism/Nasty Tude. Find anyone else that can do a Natural / Vixen weave and who will be sure to give you your left over pieces from your bundles being cut after your install because she refused to. Booked my appointment in 2months in advance which would give me time to save up to get a weave done by Antoinette. I've been following this girl for years and was extremely excited to finally get my hair done by her. The day of the appointment she did not have the lengths I requested 2 months in advance. She also said my hair was too short for a versatile weave which is untrue because I able to complete a versatile weave on my self..... she used no oil to moisturize my hair nor heat protectant to straighten the weave and my leave out. I was tremendously disappointed. I believe if I personally knew Antoinette or had 1000 ig followers I would have gotten much better service. The weave was very loose, with visible threading.... the tracks was laid bout 2 inches apart and she did not use all 3 bundles nor gave me the scraps once completed. If you follow her page, you know she promotes the natural looking weave, which was not done on my head..... the only product she offered was some blue edge control. I believe this is false promoting .... she can only do your hair if you have shoulder length. I even dm her to ask if she can still do the weave with chin length natural hair and she confirmed she could. I was definitely cheated out of $400. Like most women, I am a single mother and I really wanted to do something nice for myself as a pick me up and she definitely disappointed me. I could have brought 20 boxes of diapers with that money. It's sad today social media determines what kind of service you get. I will continue to do my own weave . read more

I have tried quite a few hair stylists all over Brooklyn and this place is the best. Terry is simply amazing with my short haircut and I always leave his chair a most satisfied client. I was excited to get my hair done by Antoinette again--I hadn't been to her in a couple of years and this would be my second time. My initial experience with her was great (she appeared sweet, talented and made me feel comfortable. I even let her record the sew-in process for her to post on her Instagram page). This time, however, she was rude and unprofessional (e.g., she looked pissed as soon as I walked through the door, although she was kind & professional through texts; she checked her phone every 15-20 seconds throughout the entire time she did my hair, never apologizing until towards the end of completing my sew-in; she made comments under her breath about the people who were texting her; she was pushy with me about the hair type I wanted, when I had already specified and confirmed via text; and she overall made me feel uncomfortable until I addressed her rude attitude, which she seemed surprised by). It's a shame because I think she has talent. However, a bad attitude will not get you far--it is not sustainable. I'd like to think that this was just one isolated incident but, based on the reviews, I see that this is probably not the case. She seems to have changed from a few years ago when I first met her, which is quite sad. Becoming popular on Instagram may be the reason for the change (unwarranted, as there are many talented people out there who will also treat you with respect. Those two things are not mutually exclusive and, therefore, I will not be returning). Her father, Terry, has been there a long time and seems extremely pleasant, personable and talented. I haven't gotten my hair done with him but I've seen how he interacts with clients and the work he's produced and so I felt the need to compliment him since he has been in this establishment a long time. This was my first time at Level One at the recommendation of a friend of mine for my very first weave installation. Despite a minor hiccup with scheduling, the owner and the stylist who ended up doing my hair were very accommodating and friendly. I had a pleasurable first experience with the staff, we talked and laughed. I feel like I could easily consider these folks family after coming here repeatedly. The energy there is inviting. I got a weave here and took it out in one day ...Actually less than a day it was lumpy and not blended and just plain horrible ..Visible black threads and all ..Stylist was nice but lacked skill and efficiency..I never know what to do when my hair looks bad honestly I'm always just like fuck it because if you fuck my hair up once I highly doubt you'll know how to fix it ..So 150$ down the fucckkin drain :( read more

I live in the Poconos and driving from PA to Brooklyn to get my hair done is not one of the things I like to do. Fast forward 6 yrs and several botched hair cuts from several salons out here, a friend who has seen my bad hair cuts said you should go to my place and seeTerry. Terry's skills showed with every customer that left his chair and when it was my turn I was not dissapointed. He skillfully cut and styled my hair with ease.
