I know what diagnostics looks like. Good diagnostics should and can be a thing with PCPs, but my experience in VA has challenged that. I've seen Haroon on and off for a few years, and when I first saw him he was quite checked out. Spent most of his time quietly on his laptop during his consult with me. I don't think totally ignoring me, but not actively diagnosing me. Like every other doctor in VA, his first move is almost always a consult, run labs, then a follow-up. This diagnosis comes after the lab model results in wasted time, not exclusive to Dr. Rashid. In one instance, I came to the Dr. with an issue that is verifiable via a quick physical check, and he did not do that, ignoring what I had told him/the patient. Again, I find this not exclusive to Dr. Rashid in the VA medical community. When I came back after labs, i had to tell him to check me twice, he finally did, and I was properly diagnosed with exactly what I had told him was the issue the first time. To be clear, this is the kind of physical check that's very basic, been around hundreds of years, that anyone can do, but a doctor is trained in and when they diagnose you they can well... do doctor things like send you to the proper specialist with a referral (which I cannot do, and need a doctor for!). So, unfortunately, that experience is pretty average in VA for PCPs ime I'll say that I've seen Doc also improve over the years. He now seems to do in-person phone follow-ups, texting. He seems a little bit happier, in general. So perhaps things are improving, which is basically all I want from my neighborhood doc. Though I really want and kind of like Dr. Rashid as my PCP, multiple times I've found myself needing to go to a different PCP or just directly to a specialist (when insurance allows) in order to get the right healthcare. But, again, not exclusive experience to Dr. Rashid, and seems part of the model of medicine in this part of VA. His front staff have always been pretty good, and their online system has also improved for the most part. Lastly, I will say Rashid is good in that he is preventive in his approach to medicine. He's not interested in throwing pills at you, and respects the body. This is what keeps me coming back currently, despite my search for my forever doc!

I will not speak to his technical abilities as he did not operate upon me. Indifferent is his overall approach. Perhaps it was a bad day. For me, the visit was a waste of time. I always called my patients with critical laboratory results. I had to call his office several times to get the results which also arrived by mail but not until two weeks later. The current Georgetown system is run as a clinic without physician guidance. There are too many impediments to direct physician-patient telephone contact. Perhaps this generation of physicians prefers it this way?

They promised to mail test results Nov. 23 and a month and 1 week later, I haven't received anything. I would never return to this office. The ironic thing is, they have a health care referal counselor who provided references to doctors there, prior to the appointment I am reporting about. This was helpful, but the doctor's and the office staff's' responsiveness to me as a patient is medically detrimental and negligent. I am getting a very bad flavor from Georgetown University Hospital Center, which represents this specialist.

I "interviewed" many nephrologists in the city before deciding on this practice. I knew I would require lifelong care, so choosing a physician who was not just competent but also "got me" and my lifestyle was extremely important. Dr. Habwe is amazing-- one of the most capable, compassionate doctors I have ever encountered. She has 100s of patients, but somehow whenever you speak to her, you feel as though you are her only one. I not only feel completely confident in her care, but actually look forward to seeing her. She is also incredibly tenacious about helping you get necessary care from other specialists, when necessary. Full time doctor and advocate, and part time social worker and confidante. The best in the city, as far as I am concerned. Additionally, her front desk staffers-- Sandy and Eleanore-- are lovely. I got pre- and post- kidney transplant hugs from both of them. (and of course, they are helpful in terms of scheduling and lab follow-up work, too). Nephrology Center also has an in-house nurse to draw labs, which makes the whole process incredibly convenient. I've also never had a problem with insurance or billing. Dealing with a short term or chronic health ailment is never awesome, and of course we'd all prefer never to see doctors at all. But if you have bean troubles, I'd never hesitate to refer you to this practice. And if you see them over the long term, I bet they become like your extended family.

I called many times leaving a message; no response. Finally, 6 weeks later I get a call from the doctor saying that I submitted insufficient quantity for the test. I felt so enraged. I chose this place to avoid the chaotic GW MFA, but that was a mistake. Also, Dr. Khan spoke to me like he had no clue about anything. Almost like I was the doctor and he the patient.

I was a little anxious in the morning and on the way to the hospital, but as soon I saw Dr. Knoll I knew I was going to be fine -- and he even had me in stitches before I was even under the knife. I was very comfortable and confident with Dr. Knoll from my first interaction with him. He was listed on the Washingtonian Magazine Top Doc Award list in 2008 for general surgery (one of five docs selected). I am not about to go try the other 4, but in my mind he would be really hard to beat. He is a wonderful doctor and surgeon and an extremely nice, caring and funny person. He took amazing care of me -- and all of his staff were wonderful as well. I can't imagine you would do any better if you ever find yourself in need of a surgeon.

He performed a total thyroidectomy on me a few years back and did an absolutely stellar job. He's done this procedure hundreds (if not thousands) of times, so you're in great hands if you need to have this procedure done. Even the scar healed nicely--and is only noticeable by others that have had the procedure. ;-) He also provides wonderful follow-up care. He's friendly, easy to talk to/joke with, and has a very good bedside manner. One thing that I dislike about this office is the fact that they don't call you the day before your appointment to remind you as a courtesy. I've asked the staff why they don't do this and they claim they simply don't have the manpower to do this. The staff seems as though they're overworked at times and may come across as cranky. Though, to their credit, they've never made an error in my billing or appointment scheduling, so they have that going for them. ;-)

I had just moved from out of state and he had been recommended, so I made the appointment for three months away. The morning of the appointment - three months later- I had not gotten a reminder call from the office so I called to confirm my 1:00 pm appointment. I was told the appointment had been canceled because they had not received my paperwork and had called to remind me about the appointment and the paperwork on three different occasions. I asked what number they had been calling. It was an incorrect number - off by one digit. Since I'm not in the habit of giving an incorrect version if my own number, it was clear there had been a typo when they input my number. I told the receptionist my correct number and asked that they honor the appointment that day. She said she would go and talk to the doctor. When she returned to the phone, she told me that not only would they not see me as scheduled but that the doctor had said they would not schedule me at all - ever - because they hadn't received my paperwork. While initially I was upset and disappointed, I'm actually quite glad it turned out this way because I wouldn't want to see a doctor who has so little compassion or consideration.

The patient him or herself can't make decisions about changing routines much less physicians. It pained me to see the daily frustration, her pain medication wasn't working. I consulted my own hospitalization's pages to find a doctor whose speciality is Geriatrics. Dr. Peter Schlissler is a prince among men. He had my parents and me in his office...cancer is a group activity, or it should be. The oncologist had no such office or family meeting. Dr. Schlisser spoke at length about my mother's condition and what we could expect. I told my mother to bring prescriptions in a bag, even empty bottles. Dr. Schlissler commented that these prescriptions were all but no longer used, it was no wonder that the medications were not working. There are better things and better dosages. I had tears to think that this doctor not only provided the revelation about the illness itself, but that there was better, pro-active treatment. Dr, Schissler wanted to examine the patient himself. You could see what kind of a person he is when he took the wheel with her wheelchair. He pushed it himself, slowly, chatting with my mother, mindful of her condition, respectful of it. More tears for me. That appointment lasted nearly five hours. He found that she had severe osteoporosis which no other doctor had tested for. He set about protocols to ease her pain, which eased our worry, he gave us a sense of control at long last. It was such a sense of relief to find Dr. Schissler and his medical practice. He restored our family by providing the respect my battle weary parents needed to carry on. Dr. Schissler is gentle and wise. He was there for my mother every step of the way. As surely as he told us at that first appointment that we were no where near ready for Hospice, he later wisely knew when it was the time. Imagine the dignity and grace. Anyone would do a family member or friend a service by having a consultation with Dr. Schissler and Associates. Mishra and Mishra is a Neurologist office which moved to Elm Street in McLean. My doctor was Navid Mostofi. I went to their office to determine why my right hand was numb as I thought it was carpal tunnel. It turns out that I probably have MS. You would think that at a neurologist office they would keep everything stress-free but Wendy is a ball of angriness that needs to be reigned in. My first negative encounter with her was when I had muscle/nerve spasms due to steroid withdrawal that they had me on. I called the advice nurse who scheduled me in the same day. I guess the advice nurse failed to call my doctor to tell him I was coming because when I walked in the office, Wendy started yelling at me that I did not have an appointment today and why I was in the office. When I told her the lady fit me in due to my severe back pain at 3:15, she said that the lady wasn't allowed to do that. I dismissed her attitude towards me because I was in too much pain. she then tried ti diagnose my problem as she was taking my vitals (mind you she is a medical asst./receptionist) and said I probably had a urinary tract infection!!!! WTF!!! I did get to see my doctor who correctly diagnosed me as having back spasms. My most recent experience is still ongoing as I had an appointment scheduled for this past Tuesday at 10 am. Wendy called me at Monday night at 7:30pm to cancel my appointment for the next day by leaving me a message. I did not get the message as I was knocking on the door Tuesday morning with no one at the office. I called the answering service who confirmed there was an appointment and they didnt even know why the office was closed. They called the sister office and the doctor directly and received no answer. I left a message with the answering service that I would be there today at 10 am. I called the doctor office today as I was driving to my new appointment and spoke to WENDYYYYYYYYYY. When I told her my name and that my appoinemnt was cancelled without proper notification she told me that she called me and that my doctor,Mostofi, no longer worked there . . . on the day I am to find out if I have MS, he quits and no one bothers to tell me?????? It has been a month of tests, taps, outpatient procedures and the day I am to find out what is wrong me she gives me attitude because she decided to call me at 7:30 the night before I am to arrive.? Of course I am pissed and per her was yelling at her. She then lied and said that that original message she left me told me that Mostofi no longer worked there which was not true. When I told her that this is the 2nd time that I had to deal with her attitude and reminded her of the time she trued to diagnose me, she hung up on me. So I called back to let her know that someone was going to see me today and that I would be there at 10 am . . . her response was that she was going to have me escorted from the building then she said she was going to call the police then when I told her that I would sure her if she laid a hand on me she hung up. So I called back. . . .by this time I think Dr. Mishra heard her yelling at me on the phone so he agreed to see me today. When she answered the first thing she said was Dr. Mishra will give you your results. I said thank you and hung up. Ten minutes later Dr. Mishra called me from his personal cell phone and explained that he could help me and would be able to give me my results. He asked how Wendy was rude and specifically asked was it her tone as if she has been reprimanded about her tone before and I explained the entire conversation to him. I will see him tomorrow and get my results but cannot trust an office that would hire someone so unprofessional as WENDY!!!!!! She is a liability to his office and practice.

No complaints---EVER---and he's been needed often. I must definitely add that his wonderful nurse, Wendy, has also been nothing but kind, warm-hearted, and shows great care. Her cheerfulness makes office visits relaxing and reassuring. She is knowledgeable in her field and wants nothing but the best for you.What a great person she is!! I would highly recommend Dr Mishra with no hesitation! So glad for finding him!
