Lex is a nice guy. I'll admit, I'd rather not have him in my life, but there's a lot of others that fall into that category as well (think plumber, roofer, roto-rooter guy, PG&E). Anyhow, Lex was in my life as, late last week in the course of an hour, I experienced one weird electrical phenomenon after another. First the lights in the kitchen go out., then the washer and dryer die, the bathroom outlet emits sparks, and finally, the garage light goes out. Holy moly!! That's a whole lot of electrical crazy! Lex to the rescue. He's a good, low key guy who seems to know his stuff. His price seemed reasonable and, perhaps the biggest brownie point of all, he stopped on his way into my house to give my dog some lovin'. Sweet. Lex coulldn't get to my house immediately, but called multiple times to keep me informed of when he expected to get there. Thankfully, my problems were of a nature that didn't require Lex to do much more than just check everything out to make sure all was explainable and okay. If he'd needed to do anything more than that, I'm pretty sure that I'd have been giving him one more star. As it is, I hope that I don't see much more of Lex (nothing personal) but if I do need an electrician again or for anything more complicated, I'd call him in a flash. read more

I had Lex come out to bid a job consisting of a bunch of small tasks at our place in Terra Linda. He was on time and checked everything out very thoroughly, asking me questions and providing feedback to me about some of the details I hadn't considered. At the end of the day I felt like Lex took more time to understand the project and what hurdles there might be so I decided to go with him over another local contractor who is popular on Yelp. On the day of the work to be done, Lex arrived with one of the two guys who would be doing the work. The other did not show up until a couple hours later, but he got to work right away and seemed to be more focused on the job than his partner (Lex had departed by this point). I worked along side them on other chores and had to reel one of the guys in a couple of times. I didn't mention to any of them that I used to run a welding crew and taking shortcuts is not going to pass with me. It was fairly minor stuff, but none the less. I agreed to do the drywall patching since I was doing a bunch of drywall work anyway. This saved me some money and didn't add much hassle to my end. The problem was however, more than half of the cut outs were NOT saved for me to replace as patches, so I had to then square all the holes that the crew cut, measure, and then cut new patches. This was not as Lex advised the guys and I didn't realize it until after they had disposed of some of the cut outs. Overall it was a really long (and hot) day and the guys worked very hard to get everything buttoned up. Lex came by a couple times to check the progress and stuck around near the end of the day. We did a couple of extra things which I was charged very fairly for. Lex is a very easy going and knowledgeable guy, I would give him personally 4 or 5 stars. His workers were also nice guys but they weren't perfect. I won't hesitate to use Lex again, but next time I might be a little more direct about what I expect from the crew. Hopefully I can upgrade this to a 4 star rating some time down the road. read more

Our home was built in the 40's and still has the original wiring. After doing some DIY to some of our light fixtures I came across a few where the old wiring was fried and the insulation on the wires had crumbled. I called Lex because of the reviews he got on Yelp. Lex did great work at a fair price. We also wanted to get the wiring in place for some pocket lights, but ended up having him install the lights as well. He really listens to what you want and/or the issues are and makes suggestions as to how to resolve or go about installation. Lex did a complete re-wiring of our 1905 home before we moved in in August 2011. It was a big job and Lex was great at making suggestions for improvements, yet still being mindful of our budget. He was great to work with and he was very creative and collaborative in finding solutions to some of the oddities that arose due to the age of house and the pre-existing wiring, outlets and access. I had a significant electrical problem in my house: lights dimming and brightening when various appliances were on or off. An electrical contractor, recommended by a reliable neighbor, came to the house and indicated that the problem required a thorough examination of the existing wiring and replacement of circuits to the kitchen that were overloaded. I waited several weeks for the work to begin, but he was always "very busy," and I tired of waiting while the lights dimmed and brightened. After reading Yelp reviews, I called Lex Electric. Good thing I did. Lex came out a few days later. He verified the problems with the lights in my home, performed some diagnostic tests with my electric panel, and confirmed his initial impression that the problem was not with my electrical wiring, but with the PGE wiring to the house. Lex clearly explained the nature of the problem to me, and as an aside, repaired the wobbly wood door covering the circuit board. Sure enough, after he called PGE to describe the problem, PGE appeared and fixed the problem with external wiring. Lex is friendly, courteous, trustworthy, and rather laid-back. Don't let his calm, informal style mislead you; he is a very competent electrician. He obviously saved me a great deal of money, time and hassle with his electrical skills. Imagine what would have happened if the electrician I first called had done the (unnecessary) work!! Very highly recommended. read more

Lex is the guy you've been looking for! He just relocated to Marin a few years ago and it's our gain, the East Bay's loss. He's a one-man shop, which I like; no big anonymous company to deal with. He answers his phone, gives advice before you even meet him, and shows up when he says he will. I have super old house with weird mysterious wiring issues and fixtures that are impossible to replace. He honored my desire to keep an ugly but cool old pull-cord fixture rather than try to redo the whole thing with a box and wiring through the wall and a wall switch. Lex is probably a fine electrician, but we never had the chance to find out. Called him several times, and each time he was courteous and friendly but failed to follow up: didn't call back when he said he would, didn't show up when he said he would, didn't call back once again when he said he would. This was a disappointment after reading a number of positive reviews -- I normally have an optimistic outlook on life, and kept hoping Lex would provide a better response. My guess is that his practice has grown and he's now got more logistics than he can handle with a one-man operation and sketchy cell coverage at some work sites. I hope he hires an assistant soon to help him with the logistics. read more
