08-29-2021 With bad air quality and hot weather the wife and I had fans, air purifiers, and a portable a/c going for the past two days. Suddenly out of no where a/c goes down, expecting that we were using to much power I go to check the breaker... and I hasn't tripped . I go to look at the outlet suspecting it might have gone bad, I have no power there... Easy fix..., so I thought.... Hit ACE, buy an outlet, install, and still no power.... Mind you, this is 2 pm on a Saturday. I shut down the suspect breaker servicing half of my lights and outlets fearing there could be something going on in the walls that I couldn't remedy myself. Call countless company's some answer and say the don't have time. Some don't answer at all. I call Chris and he answers and I walk him through my issue, he was currently on a job but took the time to hear me out. After explaining what was going on and Chris's responses assured me I knew I could trust him with the job. He informed me that it was a good idea to keep the breaker off. He was super busy and asked me to continue to try other company's but if I had no luck to call him back. An hour later I call him back and he says that if he can't make that evening by 5pm he would be here promptly at 9am Sunday Morning ! Long Story a little shorter.... Chris show up at 9Am today, inspect's the situation and begins to go to work. 30 minutes later we think the problem is taken care of, but haha not quite the case. I call him shorty after he leaves explaining that something doesn't seem right, by no fault of his own. He tested everything and they came back good. Gremlins arouse when I plugged certain things back in. He response I'll be back there in 15 minutes!. Comes back, and finds the real issue at hand!!!! We're Fixed and I feel safe! Chris was amazing!, once he found the actual problem at hand he fixed it properly and informed me what needs to be done to the rest of the house to insure this won't happen again. Chris responded to our call for electrical assistance quickly and was able to come out the next day to fix our problem. In the next couple of weeks the same problem occurred. We were baffled and called Chris again and he promptly came out and chased down our problem. The problem, as it turns out, had nothing to do with what Chris had fixed the first time. I called Chris at 10am, he was in Berkeley on a job, told him half of my house was "out", no power, he took a few minutes to trouble shoot with me, it didn't work, told me he'd be able to come to Mill Valley EOD, on a Friday no less. I messed around with the junction box too much and now everything went out, called him again, and he came right over. Chris (owner) at CK and his assistant did all the rewiring for our kitchen and fam. room remodel in 2006 and he did a great job, good price. I've used him a few times since then for small jobs. He responded to my calls quickly, came and looked at the work I wanted done, scheduled a time to do it and came by with his assistant to do the work all in 24 hours (and on time). I know he's pretty busy, so I just liked that he was willing to keep me as a customer, even though I have smaller jobs now. Chris is great. He has lovely energy. I was having problems with a GFI breaker tripping - he came the same morning I called him and let me know that the problem was in my hot tub. Chris did an excellent job of running telephone and cable wires under my house. He "fished" wires through the wall, instead of drilling through my hardwood floor. The end result was a professional look at a very reasonable cost. He also installed new electrical plugs and found an issue with the old wiring in my house. Wow - blew a fuse on Sunday night and could not fix by just messing with the breaker box. Called a couple of different electricians based on one friend's recommendations but no one was able to come as quickly as needed. Checked on Yelp and found Chris. Chris is amazing! I called him late on a Friday night because my house was experiencing power surges and it blew many of my switches. He came out Saturday morning to start the investigation. I bought new switches and he agreed to come back Sunday morning. All the electricity went down that morning. He came over and had me call PG&E. Turns out that was a large part of the problem. I have edited my previous review, because I do believe that some of the problems I had with my electric project were caused by the General Contractor. I had a detailed fixed contract with my GC, and found out that the GC had no contract at all with CK and that created a lot of opportunities for CK to claim for extras. This said, after removing the GC factor, I remain of the opinion that CK Electric was sub-par, that it required a lot of supervision on my part and that is not typical of good service providers. Installing 3 circuit breakers panels, spread all over the place when our plans had one was bad planning on his part, and while it may pass inspection, that still sucks for me that has to live in this place for the next 30 years, and now that CK is no longer on the project I have to fix this issue on my dime. Also, I expect switches to be located at the same height throughout the house, I expect that outlets along the kitchen countertop should be aligned, or that if you have a projector or a wall mount TV, you should place cable plates in such a way as to minimize the amount of visible cables. I think that if I have to run an HDMI cable inside a wall, it should run inside a conduit, so that if I need to replace the cable in 5 years I don't have to open the wall. I also happen to think that when entering a room, the first thing you see shouldn't be a power outlet smack in the middle of the wall, and that these things should be hidden as much as possible. Placing an outlet behind a washer is OK because even if it's harder to access, you only need to access it once every 10 years... All these things don't matter to county/city inspectors, but matter to home owners, or at least I would think so, particularly when you are building a new house. Some of these I caught before closing the walls, some after... the point though is that I had to catch them, and many time we had to engage in a conversation in which I had to explain why it was important and CK would roll his eyes and try to convince me that "nobody is going to see it" or "nobody cares" or (worse) "it's the code that wants it this way" (even when it wasn't the case). So my departing comment is, if you need the job done and don't care how and what it looks like, and you have a limited budget, CK may be a good option compared to other electricians that have an office, a receptionist, draw detailed contracts, have a book keeper and double check their workers' job. read more
