Pretty solid week for me (two years in a row)! I was a little disappointed by the lack of vegetarian options this year (2 compared to ~5 from last year), but the ones I had were AMAZING. I made the mistake of taking a bite of them before taking pictures... I ended up inhaling them! It was also much nicer this year: all restaurants were open each day of the week (as far as I know), and kept consistent hours. Also appreciated how some restaurants took steps to make sure they would not run out of ingredients for the burgers (which was a major complaint last year). All in all, I can't wait for Burger Week 2019! read more

Ah burger week, my arteries are glad this only last a week, but my stomach is sad that it didn't have time to try all 35. My favorite was wallace station. This was hands down the winner in my book. The toppings were fresh. The burger was juicy. The bread was soft and this sucker was delicious. It was topped with candied bacon and jalapeño pimento cheese. The husband even liked it although it was a more messy burger. Next favorite was the pineapple express burger at street craves. Yep. This thing was a monster with 2 patties, cheese, pineapples, jalapeño and slaw. It was sweet, cheesy and packed a little heat. Number 3 is almost a tie for second place. A&W with the pimento cheese, fried green tomato and bacon with the spicy papa sauce. I was skeptical with the chain style restaurants, but this was an amazing surprise! (I assure you, you will not be able to order after this week so I hope you got a chance to try it this week). Number 4 was BRU burger. It was good, however it wasn't memorable. It had crispy onions and beer cheese on it I think. (I'm gonna chalk that up to the meds and my brain still being fuzzy). I remember that I enjoyed it and our server was super nice. The fries dipped in the truffle aioli is amazing!! Burgerfi--well, since the breakfast burger is always on their menu, I cheated and ordered it the day before burger week started. I ordered it with out the maple because maple is over the top for me. Sickly sweet. The burger itself is tasty, but it's always on the menu. Enoteca was my least favorite, which actually surprised me since I love eating there. I am pretty picky about my chorizo, but the chorizo puffs are delightful so I figured this was going to be good. The flavors were good. The burger itself was dry, dry, dry. The bourbon sauce was so good, I wanted more just to dip my burger in. The husband thought the same thing about his burger, but other than it being dry, it was his second favorite burger. This won't stop us from going to enoteca. I know they try hard and the food is good. It may have just been an off night. Great job to everyone that participated. Good job choosing the burgers. I am already looking forward to next year...after a few laps at the gym. read more

I wish this event had 6 stars so I could give it 5. I'm really heartbroken this year. I put my body through the gauntlet (lets not talk about my wallet), tried my best to share everything on social media, and really really wanted to win something, even just a free burger would have made my week of food torture worth it, but, like I have always said, I can't win tic-tac-toe when I play myself. On to the important information. The food. Holy crap. Where to start. I won't say I take the crown, because I saw some SERIOUS people complete their passports. I want to worship them, but then I think of how crazy that really is. I hit my mark of 20 burgers this year. Last year was 12 and I told myself I would outdo that, and I succeeded. I'll touch on my favorites and post some photos. I tried to break this year into 2 categories, classic and unique. The problem with that is, there really weren't many classics, and I only had 1, so I now have to break it into unique and PB&J. My top PB&J this year was Napa Prime. They KILLED it with the bacon, fried jalepenos, and a perfect consistency PB sauce. Harry's was a very close second, but the quality of the burger is what lead me to Napa Prime as my winner. I also had the Columbia's WTF burger, but there wasn't enough Siracha so the PB flavor was overwhelming. On to the unique. I thought I had a clear winner early on with the Drake's BLT burger simply because the garlic parmesan aoili was OUT OF THIS WORLD. However, Shakespeare on broadway, J Renders, County Club (clear original winner), A&W (yeah, I know), and then the pizza joints (Pazzo's and Original Brooklyn) absolutely threw me off. I will say, of these, Original Brooklyn comes out my unique winner. bravarian pretzel bun with beer cheese, onions, bacon, heaven. I mean, I'm still drooling over it. Very close second would be Al's Bar. Those dudes killed it with the Swayze burger. I mean grippos, american cheese, swiss cheese, fried bologna. COME ON! And how could I forget the little flavor bomb that came from Locals?? Wow, these guys delivered. $5, 4 bites, 1 full stomach. Amazing My biggest disappointments this year were Wallace station (ridiculous wait to order, ridiculous wait for food, burger a quarter of the size of the bun, and flavor I could make on a george forman), Louie's, and Cheapside. Louie's had a burger that sounded great, but it just fell short. It tasted like a overly cooked, double fried shoe with some avocado and pineapple bacon relish missing the bacon. Cheapside killed me. We tried to go 6 times during the week, all at varying times. Every time, they were out. I feel like they made 30 burgers at 11 and 5 and just said screw it. They didn't feel committed. Next year I'm going to tone it back. My body is still recovering and I feel like a slob. I could eat all 41 and not win anything so may as well just target 10 and pray. Pictures to follow. **Note: please do not be a royal @$$hole and roll in during burger week, split a burger among 4 people, order water, and leave no tip. That really sends a horrible message. These waiters/waitresses work even harder during this week because they know the burgers are $5 and they're going to pumping a ton of them out and people are going to do it for the cheap food. If you go and buy a burger with a water, have a soul and tip $5. It means more to them than you. If you can't afford to do that, go to the places that offer takeout with no servers so you don't ruin someone's day** read more

I finally participated in the burger week this year and I was quite disappointed. It did not live up to all the hype, I found many of the restaurants just completely packed and the burgers very over rated and not as described. I tried Louie's wine dive, Smithtown seafood, Athenian Grill (probably my favorite), and Life Brewpub. Louie's and life Brewpub were by far some the worst service I've ever experienced and Louie's burger barely had any toppings. We waited an hour for food at Life Brewpub. Surely the horrendous service (or lack thereof) was due to the massive amounts of people who showed up for a burger and the unpreparedness of the staff. I would give these places another chance some other time but I do not think I will ever participate in burger week again. Great idea but poorly executed. read more

This evening we ventured to Athenian Grill for the Spartan Burger, and we were definitely not disappointed. Service was quite fast did as busy as this location was. To help sweeten the pot, we also ordered a side of their green beans (cooked in a tomato sauce and super tender) and their lemon potatoes (smooth and so yummy!). The burger itself was a beef-lamb blend. They definitely did not skimp on the portions. The spicy feta sauce and grilled onions worked together perfectly to make this a burger to remember for sure. read more

Tonight I ventured over to Harry's in Hamburg. The place was PACKED. I had to wait to get a seat but it was worth the wait. I got the Caprese burger with a side of fries and a cold ultra. The burger was hot and juicy. It came with a mayo that hit the spot as well as some traditional hamburger toppings. I would definitely recommend this burger. I'm giving it 4 stars because it just didn't have that one thing that just blew me away. My search for the amazing burger will continue tomorrow. read more

Today is the final day for Lexington's yearly, week long event filled with beef gluttony. I very rarely eat red meat, so why do I find myself so wrapped up and such a huge fan?! Is it an excuse to get out and try new things? Is it the cheap price of $5 per burger? I'm not quite sure, but I love it! One thing that I don't like is when people review a restaurant solely based on their experience during burger week and here's why... the places are crowded, and it's not a normal experience. A majority of the places participating in Burger Week won't even feature burgers after this week. Just like a Yelp event, think of Burger Week as an opportunity to get out of your comfort zone, try restaurants that we've never tried... and if you liked it, come back and try them during a normal, less busy week. Or maybe your experience is completely opposite, like one of my experiences was last year... one place was so bad that I'll never step foot in the place again. So here is my 2016 run down: Monday night I decided to make it a tour of a few Jefferson Street spots. I skipped Stellas, but tried Nick Ryan's first. Normally a classy, more than just a burger establishment, I thought that the waitress would hate us when we only ordered drinks, a burger and fries. She was actually very nice and said that she likes Burger Week because it's simple, nobody asks a bunch of menu questions, they order right away... score. It was actually the best service that I've had at Nick Ryan's in along time. The burger was just ok, not big and not really all that spicy. I did like the onion straws though. Second stop (because I forgot that County Club is closed on Mondays) was Enoteca, which just so happens to be one of my favorite places in Lexington. What a great excuse to stop in and have a few drinks. We sat out on the patio and ordered drinks and a burger. Their Borachoburger had chorizo in it. It's one of those places that I mentioned before, that don't have hamburgers on their menu, they usually only serve Spanish tapas, so some genius decided to feature their burger with something that is actually on their menu... chorizo. I liked it because it made the burger less greasy and was one of the only burgers that didn't have a soggy bun halfway into it. Tuesday I met up with a group, during lunch and hit JDIs. It was packed! Luckily someone in our party arrived early and saved us a table on the second floor. The burger was just ok, the bourbon sauce was nicely thought out, just not one of the best. For dinner on Tuesday, I decided to try Jax, Lexington Green's latest addition, that is a fast casual restaurant that finally filled the old Bar Louie that sat empty for months. I really felt bad for them being a brand new restaurant during burger week. I was burgered out for the day and ordered a salad. I did try a bite of their Southern Comfort Burger though. We watched as several people in line behind us got their burgers, finally we asked one of the people passing by if we'd been forgotten about ours and within seconds the manager brought out our orders. It looked good, but everything about it was cold. The biscuit was hard and obviously made hours, if not days before... probably the worst of the week. I think that they let the burger sit as they fixed my salad... not sure but it wasn't executed properly. Wednesday I was still burgered out and decided on something a bit quicker, so I went with A&W. The Pimento FGT BLT Burger... was phenomenal! I wasn't expecting that. The patty was thin, but everything from the pimento cheese spread, bacon, the fried green tomato, the spicy papa sauce, was all amazing. Thursday we started at Smithtown, which got my vote of best burger of 2015 Burger Week. Just like last year, I was prepared to stand in the long line. And just like last year, their first attempt at "well done" was a failure. I'm serious when I say that it was the rarest, redest burger I've ever seen in my life. We sent it back and instead of giving us the next well done burger in line, we had to wait all over again. The second one was thinner and still pink. We didn't want to wait again, so we ate it. Ouita needs to step in and help next year! I will say that the bun was good. I missed Friday. Saturday I was out of town but made the trip back in and out of Lexington especially to try Frish's Big Boy's Wildcat Bleu. My husband's favorite burger topping was bleu cheese, so he didn't want to miss this one. I love buffalo sauce and I'm generally a bleu cheese fan, just not on a burger. Give me some sliced ooey gooey cheese. For that reason, I didn't care much for their option. The finale was Street Craves. THIS WAS THE BEST BURGER OF LEXINGTON BURGER WEEK. After we ordered our burgers at the counter, in fast casual fashion, the girl informed us that they're all made well done. The Pineapple Express was two patties smothered in provolone cheese, fresh pineapple relish, shredded napa cabbage, topped with jalapenos and Thai aioli sauce. read more

You will generate return business from me and my peeps!! Though the taste is critical to a good burger, another major factor is the proportion of meat, bread and toppings. A good burger is flavorful and proportioned where no one ingredient or item (like the bun) overwhelms the burger. So here goes!! Final rankings of the ones I tried and comments for each: 6. Nick Ryan's - was excited about this burger because we love Nick Ryan's. The burger was ok, but the patty was way to small or the bun way to big. Either way there was way too much bread that over powered the flavor. 5. Harry's- BEST VALUE by far. This burger was huge. The Guinness onions were good but not enough to proportion the burger properly. 4. Brasabana - the fiery slaw was really good and the chorizo made the burger very flavorful. This burger was tiny - almost a mini, but don't want to grade it on size - the flavor and proportion was great. 3. JDI - bourbon sauce and onions was really good!! Proportioned well. 2. Napa Prime - the Mac n cheese with Jalapeño's was amazing! Very unique well proportioned and tasted great. 1. Street Craves - Pineapple Express was not on my radar but because of a fellow Yelper I made a special trip to try it. This burger was the perfect size and the toppings were proportioned perfectly. I wish it was burger week every week. What an incredibly great deal, a delicious burger for only $5! I love the passport idea as well as the social media contest that went along with it. My only issue, and I've seen it was mentioned before, I wish it was longer than a week! 30+ enticing burgers is hard to cram into a week. I had a great time taking advantage of Lexington Burger Week! I went to several restaurants I'd never been to (Stella's, Chop House) and others that I never had a burger at (Drake's, Athenian Grill and a fave (Charlie Brown's). All great values, well prepared and in spite of being slammed, front of house service was friendly at all of them. I thought the variety offerings was great. Agree with others that I ate more beef this week that I've had year to date so time to get back on the bike! I hope my friends and I are the only ones who were lied to this week. We respected the first commandment (they will run out) and moved on to other food and beer options when we were told the burger was sold out. It sucks to find out a day later they never did run out yet that's what we were told. Who knows the reason. I love this event and respect the hard working waitress/waiters/bartenders/hostesses, so I'll try to look past one bad apple. read more

We love this week! However I will say it seemed that every restaurant that was participating had the same theme, pimento cheese/beer cheese, beer braised onions OR they did a guacamole/queso/salsa. We ended up only having brasabana's and Jax's burgers because we just were not wowed on too many after ready them. Overall my husband did enjoy the two he had and they looked good but we were expecting more creative burgers that were just not there this year. O well next year maybe! I wish also there were not sooo many restaurants involved and made it more competitive for those that are picked. read more

My family and I enjoy Lexington Burger week and always make it to at least a few of the participating restaurants each year. I do wish that there were more time to try them all since I don't think anybody could drive to that many locations and eat that much meat in one week. Several of the restaurants end up with HUGE lines and waits, but that is probably unavoidable. This year it seemed like a lot of restaurants had very similar burgers, which makes going to multiple restaurants less enticing. Overall, I think it is a fun concept (and I'm excited to try out Lexington Pizza Week in November!), and I'm sure my family will continue to participate. read more
