I recently had my first appointment at Lexington Eye Associates and was really pleased with everything! First off, they were super flexible with me when trying to get an appointment. The women in the front office were super accommodating to my schedule. I ended up even being a few minutes late because of traffic but was seen right away. Dr. Russo did my contact lens exam and Dr. Lazzarra conducted my eye glass exam. They were both really nice, knowledgeable, professional, and quick. I was in and out of there in no time. The office is located right on Mass Ave in Arlington. There is parking on the street and they have a parking lot. Lexington Eye Associates is a fantastic place. I have also heard great things about their Lasik treatments which is always a plus. read more

The billing department has been completely unresponsive and unhelpful. I have called four separate times requesting a receipt for an appointment, and each time I was assured that it had been emailed to me. More than a month has passed, and I still have not received it. I also left a voicemail for the billing manager, but my call was never returned. It's disappointing that such a simple request has gone unresolved despite multiple follow-ups. For adult, the service was fine. No complaints. For kids, they don't take vision insurance and submits the claim to medical. I wish they had told this before the appointment because submitting to medical means higher copay as the doctor will be considered specialist. Not sure this is a general practice everywhere, and I was told by others that it was not. I don't understand this policy as this means vision insurance for my kid means nothing. read more

They just called in mid-September to cancel and want to reschedule it for January at the same office. We have been waiting for the appointment from July only to be pushed back to January. Went to the office, and was told my appointment had been cancelled, no apology and a ride offer to reschedule and was told I was left a voicemail, which wasn't done and when I said so, I was told well the notes might be wrong. Similar problem with another reviewer. Billing issues. Feels like a common practice of this place. My daughter went there for an annual eye exam. She has near slightness and is wearing glasses. The nurse did a refraction test. The doctor (Dr. McCabe) talked to her for about less than 5 mins and said she may have crossed eyes, then send us back home. Days later, when we get the bill from the insurance, the insurance did not cover the cost, because the doctor or the billing department then billed it as a medical (diagnostic) exam visit instead of an regular eye exam visit because there are findings in the exam and the doctor recorded the result. I would be ok with it if the doctor told us about the change or asked us to schedule another visit for diagnostic eye exam. At least, we should be given the right to know what is happening. Talked to the billing department for many times. They kept ask me do I want an eye exam. I told them I want a regular eye exam not a medical one. I do physicals every year and do all kinds of blood tests, exams and vaccines. We are never charged anything other than copay. It is covered by the insurance no matter what the result is in the exam/lab test etc. And yes, the family physician need to record anything he or she finds in the visit with no extra charge. The practice of Lexington Eye makes no sense to me. Extended talk to billing department makes no differences. Disappointing. Avoid this place. Yes, they followed up messages with an email address and a new phone number. The phone number is different from the one on the website which they use to receive calls. It feels like it is a number for customers to talk about complaints. But the number are directed to the same number on their website. I had my first appointment today. Mckinsey and Doctor Umlas were both very nice. However, they only gave me a prescription for my glasses and I was expecting my glasses and contacts prescription. When I made the appointment I stated that I needed both and they booked me with a Doctor who only handles glasses prescriptions and I was told after my 2 hour appointment that I have to schedule a second appointment for my contacts prescription. I didn't find the front desk to be very friendly either. I'm a little displeased that I was unaware the Doctor I met with only does glasses prescriptions when I explained what I needed when making the appointment. My previous Doctor always gave me both. Even when I called back to the office to better understand their offerings and services, the front desk wasn't very friendly or welcoming. My first and last appointment. UPDATE 3/1- They billed the wrong insurance company and basically told me that my routine eye exam is considered a medical exam. My routine is a $10 copay but because the doctor they booked me with doesn't see people for routine I will always be billed $319. Don't even bother going to this place. Hogs. read more

This place has botched our appointment twice! Last year they were over an hour late which required us to sit in the car with our toddler which was miserable. This year, we went back for a check up and after showing up, told us that there were no MD's on site to perform the routine and that they sent us correspondence over 5 months ago and never followed up to see if we received it given we never rescheduled. We didn't receive it and took the day off of work and daycare to bring our child in. I'm sure the care is fine, but their office management needs some serious attention. read more

They do not have eye doctors do the work. They seem to have young techs do it. The MDs never really see the patients at all.

I went to the Concord office, and they automatically scheduled me with an optician, even though I requested a visit with an ophthalmologist. I had to cancel that visit and reschedule. The day of the visit, the ophthalmologist was professional, explained everything to me, and gave me a prescription. I submitted my prescription to an online store, where I found the glassed much cheaper than the Lexington Eye optical store and there was a mistake on the PD. The guy at the online store asked me to get the PD from my doctor. When I called Lexington Eye office and asked for the PD, I was told they don't measure that. I asked why and I was told that's the way it is. I am surprised that they have all these sophisticated machines, and they can't measure the PD. It turns out that they do it on purpose to force people to go to their optical store and there, they will only measure the PD if you buy from them. It's a shame that for a visit that they change the insurance hundreds of dollars, or may be even thousands, they still want to squeeze every penny they can by forcing people to buy from their expensive store. read more

I was disappointed with Lexington Eye Associates, mostly because their customer service can use a lot of work. I had to wait about 20-25 minutes for my appointment, and got no apology for the wait from Dr. Cronin (the eye doc I saw). She seemed nervous and distracted throughout our appointment, and called me by the wrong name. I had my eyes dilated, a process I've only done once or twice before. This was by far the most uncomfortable dilation I've ever had. My eyes were in pain for a half-day afterwards. I told the doc during the appointment how much it was hurting, and she nervously semi-apologized. She did nothing to acknowledge my level of discomfort or to reassure me that my eyes would be feeling better soon. I ordered a big supply of contact lenses, and got sticker shock a few weeks later when I picked them up and the receptionist told me the price. LEA doesn't set these prices, but their docs should make an effort to tell people when they order how much it will be. In the future I will always ask--it's the patient's responsibility as well. But again, good customer service would have been, "A year's supply of those will be $800--is that OK, or would you prefer a smaller order?" Their receptionists always give whoever comes in the door a suspicious look like we're invading their territory. And they spend huge amounts of time on the phone, without acknowledging waiting customers. Yuck. read more

On the day of the appointment they told me that they couldn't take my insurance. That's terrible customer service. Someone should have checked my insurance somewhere along the way. Charge your phone, Pack a lunch and some reading materials! My mother is a patient, visits 2 different Doctors @ both Concord and Lexington offices and continues there due do insurance issue. My sister and I have taken mother to appointments... MINIMUM HOUR and HALF wait EVERY TIME! Both offices, different Doctors. Last appointment was 205 minute wait until she was seen by the TECH! All the folks in waiting room were kept waiting over 1.5 hours. So unprofessional. read more

Said I couldn't get an appointment (even during the work day) until 3 months later, and was rude when I asked if there was a list to be called in case someone cancelled. Really rude receptionists, and terrible customer service. I went recently for a severe pain in my eye (inflamed, etc.). I called to make a Medical appt and they gave me the choice of two appt times. I took the earlier appt. and made sure to arrive 20 minutes early, just in case I needed to fill out any paperwork. I was taken back by the tech at my appointment time, she DIDN'T EVEN LOOK IN MY EYE, and clearly didn't want to be there. She just asked some questions, and avoided eye contact me with me. She had me do the eye chart (Again, not there for glasses, was there for a medical visit for eye pain/swelling/discharge) then sent me back to the waiting room, where I waited for ALMOST AN HOUR. At this point, I saw patients going into the dr. who got there after me. I asked the receptionist about this, and said I was going to have to wait at least another 30minutes-1 hour because they "Squeezed me in". (Again, I was given the choice of two appt times, how is that "squeezing me in"?) At this point, I spent another 15 minutes discussing this with them, where I was subject to EYE ROLLS, and childish gossiping between the other two receptions there. I was then handed a refund for my appt. I never saw the DR. Now i'm trying to transfer my records and have gotten nothing but terrible attitude. There are plenty of local eye dr. Don't waste your time at ANY of Lexington Eye's offices, unless you like being treated terribly. read more

I take both my children (9 and 20) to Lexington Eye. My daughter goes to their Lexington office now as it's more conveinent. But I take my 9 year old to Arlington. The technician wasn't the most friendly person. As this was only his second visit, he hadn't been for few years. He did give her a fight to get the drops in, I don't blame her, but a little soothing words would go a long way. However, EVERYONE else is wonderful. Dr. McCabe, retested him when I had concerns of colorblindness. She was friendly and talkative, asking about my sons summer. The staff out front was fun and greeted us instantly despite being busy. I had no trouble making an appointment. I did have to wait about a month from when I requested an eye exam, but I felt that was reasonable. I recommend Lexington Eye! read more

I have been a patient of Lexington Eye for the past 4 years visiting the Lexington and Arlington locations, I have found them to be extremely professional and thorough. In the past I have had to wait to get a appointment for a routine eye exam, but isn't that a indication of the level of care you can expect? A busy office would seem to show me they have many happy clients. My last visit ( at the Arlington location ) was a emergency visit, the front desk staff went above and beyond to get a appointment for me ASAP. When I arrived I was promptly seen. The technician was friendly and knowledgeable and explained to me everything she was about to do before she did it. I then saw Dr Umlas, who calmed my fears and addressed my issues. I have glacoma and I have been going to the lexington eye associates Arlington office .Since last year they do not have the proper testing equipment that I need. I was just diagnosed with laser capsular by the mass eye and ear in Boston ,Mass.they are great the mass eye and ear they have taken very good care of me when I went to their emergency room.lexington eye as so staff are rude and. I told the doctor that I have been seeing their does not really listen to me when I talk to him.i told him that I was havingvglare in my eyes when I seen him in June.Now I have to have capsular laser again in my eyes but I am not going to have it done atclexington eye associates.i am looking for a better place for better eye care.1 read more

Great customer service, the receptionists are very helpful. I moved across the country but still go to them! When I come home for the holidays and everyone is booked and going crazy, they still always accommodate for me. I went to Dr. Liao after leaving my previous ophthalmologist, who was a decent doctor but a terrible communicator. I was very pleased by the fact that they were able to fit me into the schedule in less than two weeks and the staff at Lexington Eye was very friendly and quickly helped me to get my visit authorized by my insurance. Not only did I receive a full examination with what appeared to be the best technology possible, but Dr. Liao also took the time to answer my questions that were not answered by my previous ophthalmologist. I never felt rushed or confused by treatment. I cannot recommend Dr. Liao highly enough. read more

My pediatrician recommended LEA for my 8mo daughter, because we thought she might have some cross-eye issues. The receptionists were perfectly friendly, the person who gave my daughter dilating eye drops did a good job of listening to her symptoms and synthesized what her condition was from them (impressive). We waited in the waiting room for the eye drops to take effect. It was clean, brightly lit, and there were toys to play with -- everything I needed. There were lots of other families (and lots of 1 and 2yos wearing glasses!) which was interesting for my daughter to watch, and made me feel like it was a family-friendly place. The ophthalmologist (whose name I've forgotten, but she's white, middle-aged, reddish brown hair maybe?) was really great. She was obviously really good with assessing babies eyes, and she had some tricks for helping the baby to hold still and let her look into her eyes. She was very supportive, complimented my daughter on the developmental things she could tell were on track, and was able to articulate very well to me what she assessed. I have been a patient of Lexington Eye Associates for about 2 years. Dr. Liao is excellent and very professional. I am being watched closely for increasing pressure which can lead to Glaucoma and have several tests each year to determine if my condition is worsening. I lucked out today when I got Alex Legocki as my technician administering the Murphy Field vision test which tests peripheral vision. This test is a grueling, tiring experience in which you stare into a bright light for 5 minutes in each eye and have to push a remote every time you think you see a light flashing. Alex thoroughly explained how the machine worked, the size of the lights, etc. and totally told me what to anticipate so that the normally tiring test was a breeze. He also told me how far along I was which made it so much more bearable. I would highly recommend Lexington Eye to anyone looking for a new eye practice and I feel that my family and I are in very capable hands at this practice. read more

This is a class act group! I needed my annual eye exam and went to this practice from a recommendation by a friend. I saw Dr. Liao who was great, but I asked a question about LASIK surgery, and she gave me a full explanation about it. Little did I know, that they have their own specialist who does LASIK surgery! I thought they just did eye exams, but it turns out they do everything there is for eyes. I had to go to their Lexington office (which is beautiful, by the way) to see Dr. Kieval about LASIK. He took so much time to explain everything about the procedure, and his staff was amazing. It took me a little bit to get up my nerve, but I DID it and I am soooo happy. It is amazing to see this clearly! I don't usually write on these things, but I felt like I had to write this since I use Yelp for so many things. Hands down this is where you need to go not only for LASIK, but for anything to do with your eyes. read more

I agree with BC - not only did they not keep the appointment I made at Emerson, but they lied about the reason, saying someone was in there before me, and that it was an emergency. Sorry, but I was the first person in at 8am, the mother and her 18 year old kid were no emergency, and I had made the appointment over a month in advance. Very difficult on the phone to get my records over to a more professionally run outfit. If I treated my customers like Lexington Eye Associates treated their patients, I'd be out of business. I've only had one appointment at this location and while the doctors were ok, the front desk staff is very rude, unhelpful, and unwelcoming. I came in for a follow up appointment only to find the doctor that I was scheduled to see (and had to previously re-schedule to see for over a month after the initial appointment) was unable to take my insurance. It was a cold and dreary day and out of nowhere I saw smoke. I reached up and none was there. Where my eyes playing a trick. What was happening to me before my eyes (excuse the pun) was I was developing floaters in my left eye. I was truly scared and called for an appointment. It was after hours and you know Doctor's offices. The click of five and it is the night service. I tried and Dr Cavalieros answered the phone. He said he would wait for me to come in and see me immediately. A Doctor was going to wait to see me. Already I started to feel at ease. Dr Cavalieros did a complete exam and explained in my terms what was going on within my eye. Since it was after hours he was expecting his wife and young child to come by. They did and offered me some food they had from a takeout service. The experience was professional and offering me some food made it personal. I couldn't have asked or scripted the situation any better. He called the next day to see how things were. Dr. Cavalieros thank you and thank Lexington Eye. The eye care is fine, but by the time I see the doctor I am always fuming over having sat in the waiting room for well over an hour. Today it was an hour and a half. They blame it on waiting for your eyes to dilate, but that does not take and hour and a half. The real reason for so many people sitting around is to maximize profiit. If they cared at all about not wasting people's time -- which, by the way, is JUST AS VALUABLE as the doctor's time -- they would monitor wait times and schedule people to minimize it. But they don't care about us -- get 'em in and let 'em stew, we'll see 'em at our convenience. After years of this, I've had it and will look for someplace that treats people properly. read more

Fabulous service for challenging pediatric patients! My son was referred to Dr McCabe at 2.5 yrs old for suspected strabismus--his eyes were crossing. When we started, he was almost phobic of all medical situations, and stayed curled in my lap for the entire appointment. Dr McCabe and the staff (particular shout-out to Ginny!) worked with us to slowly build up his confidence and comfort, so they could get the information they needed for how to help him. Now at 6, he skips into the waiting room, jumps up when his name is called, and is so proud of his ability to cooperate with all of the questions they ask. No idea what the expectations are of these negative reviews--maybe they are all adults who could go anywhere. But my experience for pediatric ophthamology at Lexington Eye Associates Arlington office has been top notch. Dr McCabe has promptly returned my calls and has been extremely willing to have further discussions with me about my sons treatment over the phone, so he wasn't in the room while we were talking. I have been going to Lexington Eye Associates for many years. I love the doctors I see. However the reception staff is lacking. Recently I had to cancel an appointment in June because I needed other, more immediate medical care. I called several weeks before the appointment and spent a long time on the phone with the receptionist to reschedule the appointment- the first free appointment was for October (which is ridiculous, but what could I do) which I took. I called the day before when I thought the appointment was, and was told I was not on the schedule! Furthermore, I now have to wait until January to see the doctor! I never write a review but when I saw that some individuals wrote negative comments I had to give my opinion! Lexington Eye specifically the Arlington location, has been a part of mine and my son's life for 14 years. I was a first time Mom and brought my two year old son Jake, to see Dr. Boger. I was in a panic because my son's eye was crossing. The ladies at the front desk were understanding, kind and helpful. Dr. Boger is my HERO! Through the years we have visited the Arlington office on a quarterly basis.The ladies each and every time have been nothing but helpful, kind and believe me I can be a lot to handle at times! The negative reviews I have read seem to be a one time occurrence. If a YELP reader wants to get a TRUE review of Lexington Eye in Arlington, take it from someone who has had interaction with the staff over the span of 14 years, not one phone call or visit. read more

I went to the Arlington office. The Doctor was very good but the young lady who did the "vision test" was much to quick. I can tell my script is off. I too agree with someone else on here, there was this attitude of not wanting to be there. I've had really thorough vision testing for glasses before, this place was far from that. Again, the Doctors exam was fine but they need to instruct whoever does the vision testing to be accurate, take their time and be detailed. I've had better vision testing done in a mall with a franchise, honestly. read more
