I would love to be writing a good review as the location of this shop is very convient for mehowever I have only been disappointed. I called on 3 seperate occasions to see if they were able to complete an oil change and each time I was told yes and to bring the car. I took time out of my day leaving work to drop the car off and upon arrival as told they do not have time to do the oil change. My car did not pass inspection because of a strange issue with the socket of a blinker light. George went out of his way to locate the proper part. When he tried to obtain it from the dealer, the dealer was trying to charge for the replacement of the whole headlight, which would have been probably a few hundred dollars. George insisted on just replacing the part that was necessary to replace, which he was able to find after extensive research at an auto parts store. He was incredibly helpful, and I echo the other good reviews of his service. read more

I drove in at three pm with a very flat tire. They were busy but someone saw my tire and came right over - I needed a new tire because there was a hole in the tire. They were on the phone asap and they ordered the tire I needed - I was able to pick up my car at 5pm. It was great. During the past 10 years I've visited this shop many times and always got good services. Yes I have failed inspection there a few times but it was always genuine problems (worn lower ball joints, broken muffler, etc) that require immediate service. I'm mechanical inclined and have done brake, suspension, and other misc work myself. But for things that is harder without a professional auto lift I've always brought to them for service. I have never found any dealing with this shop questionable and their price is very reasonable. read more

This is the worst place ever! I came here to get my inspection sticker done and ignored the reviews on yelp. I should not of done this because I went and had my car inspected and the gentleman who did the inspection decided that the window tinting on my two front windows was illegal in Massachusetts even though they are factory tinted windows. He took my $35 and told me after he took my money that he rejected the car. I will never give my money to this gas station for gas or for service again. The staff are rude and they don't give a crap about how they make people feel. read more

I went in to have my brake check because when I step on the brake the drilling noise came on but I ended up paying for a new radiator fan and a new valve cover gasket. I do not know how he talked me into the new fan and the gasket. The temperature of the car is still the same. When I went back to talk to him he lied that the temperature was a lot higher then it actually was. I got scammed by a con-artist. What can I do? I would never go back again. Stopped in here to get my car inspected. Place is okay and a so so sort of friendly staff. The place sits on busy Bedford Street so course it gets crowded. The problem I had is they rejected my car due to the wear on my tires and still collected the twenty nine bucks and slapped the sticker on it. Any other places I got it inspected and something was possibly wrong, they would tell me PRIOR to doing this. Plus they never told me I could return to them within 60 days to get this reinspected for free. That's not good customer service and why would I want to return here? read more

Just found this yelp page unfortunately AFTER a terrible experience. I had been reading the reviews under "Lexington Auto Service Center" which seemed decent and this is supposedly one of their locations. My experience is on par with what Robert R. and Mira S. wrote: I just bought a new car and needed an inspection. I specifically looked for a nicer auto service place with good reviews hoping that my car would be handled gently as I just got it. I decided to go to Lexington Auto Service Center, their site had two locations so I picked the one closer to me. The guy that greeted me inside was helpful, told me to head across the street where there was an ATM as they are cash only. As i am about 40 feet away withdrawing cash I see the two guys who were supposed to do the inspection get into my car and rev it HARD, way harder than I would while driving, like 5+ times, while idling outside (so not yet in the garage or hooked up for emissions analysis, inspection hadn't even started yet). What the actual ****. No respect for other people's property (or maybe the guy doesn't know how to drive a stick shift like Mira S. said). Imagine if my engine had been cold, luckily I had been driving around all day and it was fairly warm out. Don't come here if you own a vehicle you care about, clearly these two clowns in the shop just think other people's cars are toys for them to play with for the 15 minutes they have them. As an added note: they told me I wouldn't pass because of the ziptied front license plate (same as Robert R. mentioned, and yes, they seemed positively giddy to tell me this, just like with his experience, although nobody, including my dealership, had heard of this not being allowed. The guy kept smiling and saying "your dealer should have told you this"). Thank goodness i hadn't paid them yet. Weirdly, just like Robert mentioned, they had me pull out of the garage myself. Maybe they weren't revving my car that loud for giggles, maybe they just don't know how to drive and didn't want to risk taking the car out of the garage themselves. But in that case, they have no business working in an auto shop. So no matter how you slice it, you're better off avoiding this place like the plague, especially if you have a manual transmission or a high performance vehicle, since these guys are either super disrespectful or super incompetent (or both) read more

Visited to get my car inspected. I agree with other reviewers; the inspection was speedy. However - and, frankly, I don't think I'm a big "complainer" - they only accept cash for inspections. I handed them my debit card, and got a steely-eyed "cash only." That was odd, given that a giant old-school credit-card swiper is on their desk. One of the mechanics seemed pretty irritated at me: "There's a sign. It says it on the sign." I told them it would help future customers if they were warned BEFORE the inspection that cash was needed, but the mechanic did not like that idea. In any case, I ran across the street to an ATM, got the cash, returned to my car (with both windows open the whole time, outside, while snowing), and left. This gas station had the best selection of juice and food we had seen in a while. Naked juice, tasty bars and coconut water. The bus was filled with diesel. Fast, quick, in&out, like a New Orleans Brothel. It's not as much fun, I admit, but it costs less. But seriously: My 2nd fast, efficient inspection there. And yes, I brought cash (I normally don't go around with less than $29 cash in my wallet anyway--you NEVER know when you may suddenly need a fair amount more cash than that even). And no, they don't spend a lot of time on chit-chat, maybe that's why they're so fast. Bring cash, if they fail your car, ASK what/why/when or figure it out from the state website. They're not unfriendly or rude, they're just not there to hold your hand, or kiss your big bee-yu-ti-ful behind if your car fails. (And yes, I do know about the mental trauma inflicted if your car fails inspection. There are psychiatrists for that, but it can take years, & none of them can fix your brakes worth a D*mn). 1000% times better than my awful experience at Gulf Service Center (Marrett Rd & Waltham st) last year......if you want lots of talk when they fail your car, go there.....but watch your wallet! read more

They've done great work for me at a fair price and have always been very honest when I have suggested work that they didn't think was necessary. I also take my car to them for inspection and have had no problems. I come prepared to pay cash for the inspection as this is common practice. Brought my car in to get an inspection and sticker. Handed keys and registration over. Guy came back and yelled at me that my car must have a "lock" because he couldn't turn it on. I went over - he was attempting to start it in 2nd gear. I explained it was a stick shift and offered to drive it over, but he told me it was illegal and he knew how to drive a Porsche. I started it for him and then he almost drove it through the other side of the garage. I will NOT come back here and will drive the extra 5 miles to another place. read more

I was on my way to Walgreen's in Lexington when I noticed this Gulf station had a sign saying they do automobile state inspections. I had dodged being cheated at a Mobil station in Burlington the day before while attempting to have an inspection done (see my separate review of that Mobil), and I still needed a new one-year inspection sticker. I didn't think lightening would strike twice, so soon, so I pulled in and dropped off my car with a young man wearing glasses who said to park in front of the garage and I would have time to do some quick shopping across the street. When I returned a few minutes later, my car was in the garage and different young man, bearded and doughy, with a heavy accent excitedly informed me that he would not be able to pass my car's inspection given three different reasons. He seemed gleeful in delivering this assessment. 1) The window tinting (which has passed inspection for the last 13 years) would have to be removed. 2) My front license plate was fastened on with zip ties (which was done at the dealership 13 years ago and which always passed inspection.). 3) One of my headlights was smudgy (still functions well, and again for 13 years wasn't mentioned, and subsequently when I took my car elsewhere, wasn't mentioned either). While at the Gulf station, I glanced around the quiet garage and noticed there were actually three chubby under-twenty-years-olds hanging out, apparently not doing much of anything. I was puzzled as to the real reason for not wanting to inspect my vehicle, but also sensing that these weren't solid professionals, I shrugged off their apparent indifference to work. None of the issues presented to me sounded valid, nor had those concerns ever been brought to my attention during prior state inspections of this vehicle. Given my strong sense that these guys didn't have their heads in the game, I politely informed the puffy young man that I would take my car somewhere else. He said something nonchalant like, "good luck." I asked if he needed to pull my car out of the garage himself. He said, no, I was free to take the wheel myself. The day before, at the Mobil station in Burlington, the station attendant had admonished me angrily for having attempted to pull my car into the garage, saying it was a big deal because insurance doesn't allow customers in the garage area, and that a customer should never pull his vehicle in, or out of the garage. I suppose the rules depend on who's minding the hen house. So, chalk this up as two bad experiences, at two separate local stations, within two days. I don't think I'll be stopping at a Mobil, or a Gulf station again. Don't worry fans. Believe it or not, it took me shopping at two more stations before my inspection was completed. I guess it's a crap shoot these days to get a legitimate inspection done. This is one place to avoid. read more

Nice fellow who runs the place, but DO NOT have any mechanical work done there. We took our car in for minor repairs and they broke it -- and I mean it was a total write off. After receiving it back and taking it to a Toyota dealer to have them assess it, we were told that stuff in the engine was disconnected and that some things were in the wrong place. Basically, they took much of the engine apart and could not get it back together again. Although they acknowledged their fault, they never refunded even the money for the repairs, much less offer to buy us a new car! I will never stop there again, even to get gas or clean the windows. read more

Awfully rude mechanics. They try their best to make money of off you. They will throw fancy mechanic jargon at you and try to rip you off. The same thing happened to me, but I refused to pay for their service and brought my car to 2 other different shops and they told me everything is fine and there is no problem with the car. Stopped for sticker and one of the guys suggested changing a back lite. He then broke the hooks of the cover and quietly used some glue to hide the damage. I would note recommend this place for any service other perhaps gas. read more

After paying my $29 for an inspection, the short man was kind enough to inform me that I failed. Not for emissions, not for a headlight, not for anything remotely serious. It was the brake light in my rear windshield! Anywhere else would have at least told me before taking my money. Cash only (shady...) He was kind enough to tell me I can bring it back to be repaired. Best part of my day was going here. I had heard this weird water sloshing sound in my car and went there to have it checked out. We have used this station regularly for car repairs over many years. I guess that speaks volumes! Ricky and Sammy are very knowledgeable about all types of vehicles and we are people who keep ours for a long time. :) They always find the least expensive options for repair and will give an honest opinion about whether something is worth fixing or not. I waited and waited he kept leaving the car to fill gas in 9-10 cars while I waited. 45 minutes for an inspection and a rude staff - never again. read more

I have known Sam for over 15 yrs. Whenever I have a question or concern I can stop in and run the issue by Sam or Ricky. I never feel that unnecessary repairs are suggested and whenever work is performed it is done right the first time. If anybody is familiar with the state inspection Law in MA, you would understand that when a car goes in inside any state inspection bay, the car must be inspected and rejected for any reason, By law the inspectors do not inform you that the car will fail until the inspection is done, that's THE LAW (Or how will you know that ur car is not safe to drive for you and for others safety? ). and for them to get in trouble over 1 misunderstanding/rude/angry customer is not worth it Imo. look up through the MA State inspection website and it will tell u all this. as for me as a customer, i go there every time i have a problem with my car, Great customer service, very nice people, Ricky is awesome, a very nice guy, Sam is great, Dany is super and they take care of you very well. they fix you car as they fixing their own, reasonably prices, and sometimes minor things needed on my car, they charge nothing but a smile. :) as for other they charge you up to $50-100. i take all my family cars over there and i suggest to anyone who care about their safety and others and like to drive a car that you can call an well/good condition car i suggest to go visit that station read more
