There's definitely a cool vibe about this place. This is one of six city-owned markets and has been in operation for more than 200 years according to the website. The inside, while very up-to-date, retains that vintage feel that makes it special. The tenants offer some impressively good food options ranging from ethnic favorites to wonderfully unhealthy southern cooking to BBQ to seafood, as well as great coffee and sweets. But aside from the food, this place presents a great place to wander enjoying the classic architecture and sense of history. And that part is free! read more

A good variety of food shops (and a few crafts / ware vendors. Raw bar to chittlins to shaved ice to chinese to fried chicken to ice cream to deli to butcher shop to..... you get the idea. Common areas could have used more attention in terms of cleanliness. Rails were sticky, seats were dirty. Also the elevator between the two floors was so rough it actually hurt my back when it started its journey from 1 to 2. All the vendors were cordial. The food looked great in most of the stalls. In most of the stalls / storefronts, the prices were not outrageous either. We have already decided that the next time we go to Baltimore we are going to try to do a lunch and then a dinner from the Lexington Market. It's all part of the adventure. read more

This is such a great market to be in with a good selections of quality restaurants including delicious fried chicken, fresh juice shop, large bakery, mini donuts, fresh seafood and meats, candy shop, and more. Atmosphere: open, spacious, not super clean but not bad, and it's visible the staff are actively cleaning after people made mess in bathrooms, on the steps or in the eating area. This is a generally safe place, but still, stay alert to your surroundings. Value: good price on most of the foods we ordered included sandwiches from sunnyside, fried chicken and liver from super fried chicken or pastries from the market bakery. Lexington market is one of the oldest markets in America. Much like other markets they are in very downtown ungentrified areas. If you've ever been to grand Central market in LA, the neighborhood is kind of similar, at a smaller scale. Although if I'm being honest, there is obviously a little bit of a culture shock. I wouldn't come to Lexington market at night by myself but during the day it's perfectly safe. The market is right next to the university of Maryland medical system Hospital. Honestly, the renovations are so so so nice. It makes this one of the nicest markets I've been to. This was my second time and they really filled out with vendors. I really appreciated some of the signage around Lexington market acknowledging Baltimore's history with slavery and the immigrants and the Korean vendors. There's a lot of options for food here from coffee to drinks to noodles to hotdogs and potatoes. The lower floor really serves for services like shoe fixing and butchers and the first floor is where they also have bathrooms. I worked here for two hours while waiting for an event and I did get asked if I have any change by two people but they were very respectful. No market is a value bargain, but the food is good and the very famous Faidly's seafood is here. Honestly, on a really sunny gorgeous day the market is really, really stunning. read more

This is my very first time visiting Lexington Market on Juneteenth since the revitalization and renovations and boy was I thrilled to see everything. I remember the old Lexington Market in which I use to frequent so much as a teenager after school. It really brought back memories to see some of the same stores still in the newly renovated Lexington Market along with some new businesses. There is a broad variety of different food selections and new black owned businesses to check out. I absolutely love seeing the addition of the historical significance being displayed throughout and in the courtyard. The market is so much more cleaner, brighter and vibrant. Not gonna lie, I find the lamest excuses to go to Lexington market. There are so many local businesses there, that serve everything from delicious deserts, breakfast, lunch & dinner, to tonics that help with heart health. There's also a market downstairs that has beef bacon for those of us trying to get out of the habit of eating so much pork... I said trying y'all. No one said anything about succeeding lol. But no, there's a little bit of everything here, pizza, coffee, a sausage vendor, chicken & waffles... Sunny side Cafe... I could go on and on bc I've probably been to them all. You can find garages nearby but be careful & stay alert bc it can get pretty sketchy in the area - not to scare anyone, I usually just walk with my chest out, and never have any issues... besides, I've taken my 2 year old son, 13 yr old daughter & Wife w/ me so that should tell you my comfort level. But I'm also pretty much always able to find street parking near the building. I gave it 5 stars for its variety & bc I've honestly never had a bad experience. read more

So happy for the community with the updated building which is absolutely gorgeous! I definitely want to come and visit again, super accessible by subway train and sooo many options for food! Any cuisine you can think of, they have! They have steps to the second floor and an elevator which is great for those with mobility impairments like myself. I got Chinese food that was pretty cheap and had free samples. It was so delicious! I think it's fair to say that Lexington Market isn't in a part of Baltimore City that I'm dying to take friends or family to when they visit the city for the first time. It's just not the nicest part of the city, although I think it's safe to visit and the market worth exploring. But I think that the neighborhood the maket is in probably puts some would be visitors off and that may have taken a toll on the market's success, even after a $45 million redevelopment. The Baltimore Public Market System is thought to be the oldest public market system in the country, and exploring Baltimore's market has been a surprise joy since I moved to the city almost four years ago. Lexington Market has roots going back to 1782 when there was an informal space for the exchange of goods at the spot where the market stands now. When the market proper opened in 1805, it was outside city limits - wild to think of now! The new building is beautiful - two levels, a staircase that is an architectural feature, high ceilings, etc. And there are some great merchants with stands inside the market, including some with other locations in the city or with loyal followings and long histories. The Baltimore Museum of Art, Black Acres Roastery, Faidley's Seafood, Mount Royal Soaps, Taharka Brothers, and Trinacia are also businesses I was familiar with already that have stands inside the market. And then there are lots more! So why is this a three star review? My friend and I visited Lexington Market on Friday, because we had tickets to a play at Everyman Theatre later than evening. If you've been to productions at the Hippodrome or Everyman, you might know that there just aren't many nice places to eat or have a drink before a show around those theaters. Not really a pre-theater dinner culture in the neighborhood around these theaters. So I typically eat elsewhere in the city rather than eating near the theaters, which is a shame. However, with a play with a 7pm start time, we would be pressed to make it a restaurant after work, enjoy a dinner, and then drive or Lyft to the theater by 7pm. And Lexington Market is one of the few places to eat in this area that isn't a very fast casual option (although, I guess, technically, each stand is kind of a fast casual situation, but at least a food hall is a fun experience!), so we decided to get dinner there. A day or two before our planned dinner at the market, we learned about the market's hours: 6am-5pm Monday-Wednesday, 6am-6pm Thursday-Friday, and 7am-6pm on Saturday (they are closed on Sundays altogether). There is a little asterisks on the website that says "Individual merchant hours may differ. Check merchant pages for more details." We were hopeful we'd be able to grab dinner the market. But after leaving home around 5pm, we arrived at the market around 5:30-40. And, yeah, the market really fully shuts down at 6pm. Not only do most vendors start closing up shop around 5:30, a guard for the market actually walks around and tells people at 6pm that the market is closed and everyone has to leave. We were lucky to find a vendor willing to sell us food at 5:45pm, but when we were still waiting for the meal we had paid for, the guard told us we needed to leave as the market was closed. He let us stay when we explained the situation, but they are really strict about the closing time. I'm not sure if closing up this early is because the market historically was open during those hours or if they are concerned about staying open later since the neighborhood can be a little dodgy at night, but it's a shame that it's not really possible to have dinner at the market, especially since the neighborhood does lack dinner options for before performances at two of the city's best theaters. I'm extremely unlikely to be at Lexington Market before 5/6pm on weekdays since I work and don't have a very flexible schedule, so that leaves Saturday as the only day I'd really ever have occasion to visit the market again. So I can't say I'm likely to frequent the market unless I ever attend a Saturday matinee at one of the theaters and want to check out the market again. Sadly, despite the incredible renovation, the market just isn't that accessible for the hours that I work and since I'm definitely not regularly in the neighborhood on a Saturday. I probably won't be spending as much time at Lexington Market despite the number and quality of vendors at the market. read more

My bf and I visited Lexington Market for the first time and loved it! The market was bustling with people checking out all of the options. The upstairs has a ton of food offerings from many kind of cuisines so you're sure to find something you like. The downstairs has a small produce and meat market which is cool. On this visit my bf got Italian sausage and a hot dog and I got sushi so we were both happy. I can't wait to go back to try more places! read more

The newly renovated Lexington Market is certainly an upgrade from the previous market which first opened its doors ever 200 years ago. Up until its renovation, the previous market still had the iconic industrial concrete floors which over time smoothed out due to years of foot traffic. The new Lexington Market has everything but the old American warehouse feel and has caught up with the design of 21st century American food halls. The new Lexington Market has slightly fewer vendors than the old market, however, I think having fewer vendors makes for a much better customer experience as there is indoor seating, restaurants operating in private space like Faidley's Seafood, spacious corridors, and office space. You still have your community favorites including multiple chicken wing vendors, Asian, hot sandwich, bakery, etc.. Faidley's Seafood perhaps is the cornerstone restaurant at Lexington Market and rightfully so considering the large space it occupies; serving a Baltimore favorite: crab cakes. There is plenty to purchase to satisfy everyone's needs at Lexington Market. What I like most about the new Lexington Market is the loitering that was a major community concern of the old market virtually does not exist with the new. The loitering and activity which would obstruct entry into the old market kept me from stopping by Lexington Market many times when I would visit Baltimore. I'll continue to visit when in the area. read more

Lexington Market is THE quintessential Baltimore experience. You have not been to Baltimore (Bal-dah-more) if you have not visited the various food stalls and shops in the market. I have seen this market grow and change for the past decade and the recent renovation is WOW! They increased the space, made more space for seating and community gathering. The classic shops of Lexington Market are moving in, along with some new shops to keep up with new tastes and trends. The food and items range from $-$$, so it's not very expensive to make it a nice friend hangout or date spot. The service, well what can I say - you know Baltimore is kind, sweet, and loving BECAUSE of Lexington Market. The staff are so friendly and helpful, anyone you talk to running a shop cares about investing into the community, it's a great energy. Parking is plentiful at the adjacent parking garage or you can do street parking, albeit it can be busy at times. The restrooms are clean and well organized on the top floor. I look forward to attending more events at Lexington Market, hopefully a summer music scene or farmers market soon! read more

Old City Classic has that kind of ghetto charm--not the cleanest or most polished spot, but it gets the job done. The stalls have a ton of options, which is great if you're indecisive or rolling in with a group. Quality is hit or miss depending on what you order, but some stalls definitely stand out more than others. I finally made it to Lexington Market and had breakfast at sunny side cafe with my son. I ordered the French toast breakfast sandwich Cap n on the go and my son the waffles and chicken. The food was goo and I really liked the chicken my son got. The Waite was long but the service was very good. I will say it was more than I would normally spend on breakfast at $65 for 2 meals and 1 drink including tip but it's something I've always wanted to do and my son will remember the experience. It's kind of like a mall food court. I wanted to like it on account that it's the oldest food hall in America - so they got history and longevity under their belt. But I found it nothing to write home about. I have been to a lot of other food halls in the US and abroad, and this one doesn't hold a candle. The layout of the place is weird, it takes you around in circles. The food we had in a couple of the spots - the fried chicken and waffles, a boba joint. I just wasn't feeling it. Our first stop after landing in Maryland was to come here. It was not close to our hotel but I wanted to do something "touristy " since the rest of our trip was doing stuff with family. My husband was reluctant to come here especially since it was located in a not so nice area in Maryland. But we did for about an hour. Parking was in a cheap garage across the street...it was a rainy day which made it worse and dark. There were a few homeless people on the street but also a few cops. Upon entering Lexington Market we walked around to the many stalls of different ethnic foods. There were 2 floors and we stopped at Faidleys seafood for an early lunch at 11 am. I did notice a few seedy looking people in the market so it didn't make me feel safe. I wanted to explore more of the market and it's a shame that if I felt this way others probably did as well and would not be able to experience all of the places here. read more

I went to Lexington Market and I was happy to see all the small shops and eateries. There's so much to choose from. I got a smoothie on the lower level and bought a couple gifts for the family. The smoothie was very nourishing and I loved that the staff used fresh produce. You can customize and choose different fruits and add sweeteners like honey or peanut butter. They have quite a few things to choose from. I bought bar soaps from a local bath shop. They weren't your average bath and body scents so I appreciated that. They have different sales during the holiday season. I returned a second day, walked around, got a Maryland Crab cake platter with mac and cheese and collard greens. I also got some clam chowder to finish off my tour of Maryland. Highly recommend if you're in town, the locals are so welcoming and helpful. Not too far from the aquarium and sound stage! read more

This is my first time visiting the newly Renovated Lexington Market. I haven't been here in ten years at least. They did a awesome job, made it more Modern and an Industrial feel. A variety of Food Vendors to choose from and it reminds me of a large Food Court. They have plenty of seating spread out and 2 Levels of Vendors. I must say I do miss the old Lexington Market and a lot of the original vendors didn't return, like my favorite Deli Spot. I do recommend you pay them a visit. read more

This was, in my opinion, a smaller version of Chelsea market or reading terminal. A lot of vendors and stores within. I didn't feel the food selection was amazing though. It was not overly crowded here like the others, but a lot of the restaurants weren't open when I went either. I went two different times of day and it was never as overwhelmingly crowded as the others, which was very nice. I tried shrimp tempura bao buns that were good, but not amazing. The bun didn't taste fresh at all and it wasn't very fluffy. The people working at that restaurant were very nice. They have restrooms that were clean. Overall it was a nice stop. read more

The new Lexington Market is the successor to the market built in 1782. Upon walking in there's not really anyone to greet you. But there's a very good amount of security clearly visible near the door. Which is a MAJOR PLUS since it keeps the panhandlers and people up to no good out of the new location. There's also commercial strength hand sanitizer at the entrance. They had the Air Conditioner on and there was a very good amount of fresh flowing clean air. Air Filtration is most likely being utilized since this building was finished after C-19 and also the air smelled very good. They're using the giant fans on the ceiling which are clearly visible for air circulation. There's a good variety of different shops on the first and second floor. The pricing at some of the shops were not bad compared to the portion sizes I observed people getting at various shops. They're definitely generous with the portion sizes. Seating is very easy. There's tables as well as people were sitting on the wooden bleachers leading upstairs. **SEE PICS**. Definitely felt like a modern college type environment with the bleacher seating available. MAJOR PLUS. There's a good amount of trash cans on both floors. None of them were overflowing nor was there any discarded food laying nearby. Since the new structure has more windows then the predecessor. There's a very good amount of natural light. The windows are lightly tinted to reduce glare and for cooling I'm guessing. There's also a very good amount of LED lighting during the daytime being utilized. There's a park like area next door which I assume will be used for hosting events at the new location. There's also outdoor seating as well as planted trees. Very clean environment for kids and family. Baltimore Police is usually sitting on the upper level of the park to reduce crime. Highly visible. There's also visible security staff outside near the entrance as well. I can't comment on "Dedicated" parking since I was riding in a Government fleet vehicle that day and it was parked on the street. There's a huge amount of PAID parking garages nearby as well as street parking though. The employees at the shops that day were very friendly and professional. Also social too. The security staff looked to be on alert. Not texting nor playing with their phones. The general crowd is mainly adults. Teenagers too. Mature though. No one is playing loud music from their phones nor causing a disturbance. All different nationalities and all different classes. The overall noise level was normal for a market. There's also a jumbo TV projection screen on the second level. Overall. A++++, The new location is definitely worth a visit. read more

So, I never went to the original Lexington Market when it was open. I did go there for a Night Brunch after the market had closed for good, and it was a depressing place with a grody smell. The new market is just as good as any market redo I've ever seen, though it's a new build. It's a long, 2 level building housing a ton of eateries and shops. Since it's still newish, it's still fairly clean, which I like. There is a wide variety of food options, which I like. There's a diversity going on there that I like. And I would like to return soon to try out some of the eateries I was interested in, but didn't choose my last visit. read more

First opened in 1782, it's now housed in a 2022 renovated building with two floors of around 50 vendors selling produce, ice cream, coffee, etc. Public restrooms and drinking fountains are on the first floor near the bottom of the stairs. There's plenty of seating at tables, on the stairs, etc. If you love ice cream, try the honey graham ice cream from Taharka Brothers. read more

I had never been to the 'old Lexington Market', but I like the renovated version. I was here for a Yelp Elite event in the Baltimore room. I can see the room being used for many events. Once the brunch was over my partner & I perused the rest of the Market. I like it! The vendors we sampled at the Yelp event were from the Market so we looked for more. I loved the Taharka Brothers ice cream so we got more! All of the food looked delicious actually. The shrimp egg foo young in the Asian spot right outside of the Baltimore Room was tempting, but I was full. Then there was the 'health food' store downstairs, the flower shop with beautiful arrangements, my favorite Mexican spot, Charro Negro, Mount Royal, and more. I could see this being a go to' spot for many of the locals. It reminds me of Eastern Market in DC. I'll definitely be back! read more
