I been a customer at Lex Tech for 18 years beginning with my 1991 Lexus LS400 (one man garage)to my current ES 350 and Rx350. I know owners and they are legit and fair. Currently, my 2010 and 2017 Lexus have been serviced only by Lex Tech. Forget the dealer unless you have a brand recall, which is rare. Check them out before going to dealership. read more

The term "good honest mechanic" is a term I would seldom use in todays automotive industry. Dealers, private shops, chain shops - all operate under the guise of helping you, but above all else they are helping themselves to maximize profit. Empathy and morality now lack in the automotive world, at Lex Tech that is not the case. I like to turn my own wrench, and rarely trust anybody to work on my vehicle - my vehicle was making a noise I could not diagnose other than my own intuition, and wanted to verify what the problem was before throwing parts at my Tundra. Glenn (Owner) and his mechanic were honest, transparent, and knowledgeable about everything - but more so were honest on pricing and avoided any hidden costs, fee's, markups, etc. to get me rolling once more. There are not many shops that will give you ALL options on how to move forward with a repair, but LexTech does exactly that. The part prices are "steep" - but they are all Toyota factory Original Equipment. There is an age old saying "buy once, cry once" - the factory parts serve the legendary reliability of Toyota justice, there is a reason the owner provides this option. I had a flat tire on Savannah Hwy this morning and parked at the strip mall directly across the street from LexTech. After waiting an hour for AAA, I ran across Savannah Hwy to LexTech and asked if there was ANY WAY they would please cross the street and change my tire. I told them that I would pay WHATEVER they requested as I had to get to work and get kids to school. I was told they only work on Lexus and Toyota (He didn't ask what type of car I had), do not leave their shop and he only had two technicians. It would have only taken five minutes to change my tire.. it only required a little kindness..courtesy....understanding... He did not offer any assistance whatsoever and was very rude. I do not think this is the kind of place i would recommend ANYONE to go to. read more

After getting a 4000.00 estimate from the Lexus dealership to complete some "urgently needed" work, we took our car to LexTech for a second opinion. Rich came out immediately and talked to us and took our car back. After about 40 minutes, he came out and said our car did not need any of the work done immediately. In fact, it may never need the work. He said they spotted a small leak that we just needed to keep an eye on. He said if it got worse, to bring it back and he would recheck it. He quoted us 1000.00 less than Lexus. When we asked how much we owed him, he said there was no bill. We said we would pay for the time he spent under the car. We realize his time is valuable. Again he refused any money. We pulled out of LexTech and went to have lunch downtown. It was gorgeous out so we opened the sunroof. When we arrived at our destination and went to close the sunroof, it would not close! We could not believe it. We have never had a single problem with the sunroof. We quickly got lunch to go and headed back to LexTech. Again, Rich came out and we told him we had tried a million times but the sunroof refused to close. Rich got in the driver's seat and five minutes later had the sunroof working perfectly. Apparently the glass can get caught on the shade and get stuck open. He knew about this problem and was able to reach up and fix it. We asked how much we owed for fixing it and again Rich refused payment. He said he is an "old school repair shop who just wants to help people who have car problems". He said he never advertises or uses any social media. He just stands by his work and counts on word of mouth from satisfied customers to keep him in business. He said he will almost always beat the dealership on price too because he doesn't have the cost associated with all their fancy overhead. We 100% recommend LexTech on Savannah Hwy. in fact, I heard about LexTech from a friend whose family uses them for their car needs. They loved them so that's why we decided to try them. read more

Brought my truck in on Wednesday with what seemed to be a pretty severe issue as I was not able to exceed 60MPH. A few hours after dropping it off I received a call from Richard explaining to me what the issue was and that it would be a pretty hefty job cost and work wise. He explained to me in detail everything that had happened and gave me options as in what was NEEDED to fix and what I could also fix to prevent future issues. I have to give them major props as they are so open and forward with what they will be doing to the vehicle unlike some other shops I have experienced who will make crazy problems up . Anyways to wrap this up he had my truck done within a day and a half. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone who cares about their vehicle and the people who work on it! read more

HIGHLY DISAPOINTED. I brought my 2001 Prius in that was having engine trouble. Basically the engine would shut off after running for about 30 seconds. They took $170 from me to run a diagnostic. They told me my piston rings where shot, that the cylinders had failed the leak down test, and that my engine was toast and needed to be replaced. They highly recommended I just get a new car. Well I got a second opinion. Turns out that there was just a loose connection on my auxiliary battery. Literally that was the only problem. I've been driving it for two weeks since we fixed the connection with absolutely no issues. According to what they told me this should be impossible. There is no problem with the cylinders or the piston rings. To me it would seem they lacked the expertise to diagnose the problem. So instead of working harder to figure it out, they pointed to an issue that didn't exist so they could charge me and send me on my way. Well unfortunately for them, I come from a family of mechanics and engineers. I wish I lived closer to them so I didn't have to end up at this snake oil shop to begin with, but at least I was able to get them to check it out in the end. Thank god I did, because I almost lost my car over a loose battery connection. read more

I have always had my GX 470 serviced by the Lexus of Charleston dealership. However, when Lexus told me it would be $1880 for a secondary air injection system, I decided to maybe go somewhere else. Not because of service, but I thought that price might be a bit high. When I took my car to Lex Tech, I told Richard I had already had it diagnosed at Lexus, and he said "Oh, I see where this is going". (Do they not expect or want Lexus customers who compare prices?) The issue was diagnosed, (the same secondary injection system diagnosis), and Richard said it would be $1860 to fix it. He said they did not have the part, that it would need to be ordered. He also said it would take 5 or 6 hours to fix when the part came in.(Weird that LexTech wasn't lower because Richard had told me that they crush Lexus on labor charges.) I also paid $54.00 for the 5 minute diagnosis. (Only $31 for the equivalent diagnosis at the Lexus dealership). I asked Richard why Lex Tech's price wasn't better, and he said he understood that Lexus of Charleston is now offering a minimum 10 percent discount to out of warranty customers because of competition from Lex Tech. Since I could get a loaner from the dealership, and they have all the records on my car anyway,and quality of service/friendliness is better at the dealership, I took it back to the dealership to have it fixed. Actually less than what originally quoted, it was $1810 from the dealership when all was said and done... Lex Tech was $73 more than the dealership if you count in the difference in the diagnosis charge. read more

I found Lex Tech, and Glenn, the owner, online and I've been there twice with two different Lexus sedans. Today, I brought my 14 yr. old sedan there in hopes that I didn't have a very expensive transmission problem, as I intend to sell it. Not only did Glenn (started working on Lexus LS 400's in 1990 when they first came out!) diagnose the problem quickly/accurately, he actually had a "mass air flow sensor" on hand for my model/yr. so I wouldn't have to wait to get the part from his supplier. The "much less expensive than a new trani" job was done quickly and professionally (showed me the defective part), and his prices are fair/competitive (much lower than the Charleston Lexus dealer!). Places like this are hard to come by--so don't pass them up! Having used other dealers and national chains, nobody compares to the service and honesty here. I got a call this morning to explain the service and estimated price that I would be paying. I have had issues at other dealerships where they just never called to go over the work or even let you know that your work was done. You won't regret using them! read more

I had a negative experience when I went in to get a quote. Richard was not all that friendly, and talked down to me in a way that I felt intimidated, like, if I was looking to save money, I have no business owning a Lexus. I rarely take the time for online reviews, but good, honest mechanics definitely deserve their due credit, especially since I couldn't find out too much about LexTech from my friends. I decided to take a chance on them, and I am BEYOND IMPRESSED with the business that these guys have put together. I took my 4Runner to them for some routine maintenance, and - having been told by the dealership that the rear brake pads needed to be replaced - I asked them to go ahead and replace those as well. When I picked it up, there were no "additional" fees and they reported to me that my rear brake pads had another 20,000 miles left on them. They could have screwed me by replacing something that didn't need to be replaced - something that I gave them permission to do - and they didn't! I know that not screwing someone shouldn't be anything to brag about, but given my experience with auto mechanics, I think it is. On top of all of that, the "experience" was also more than I expected. The phone was always answered. The price for their services did not change between the phone call and the office, which was very clean and included wifi - not to mention - it is also next door to The Black Bean Co. I love my 4Runner and would highly recommend this place to Toyota and Lexus owners who feel the same about their vehicles. read more
