Incredible experience at Torres. I was driving cross-country and stopping in Charleston, SC to visit a friend. He lived nearby Torres and recommended I go to them when I mentioned I was experiencing some issues with my brakes on the drive. From the moment I walked in the door Terry (I believe that is her name!) was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. It turned out I needed my front and brake pads to be replaced in addition to some other parts related to my brakes that they did not have on-hand at the shop. Because I was leaving early the next day -- Terry and Torres team made sure to work late and get the part I needed so my car would be ready to go. Torres Auto Repair is my family and I's new go-to auto-mechanic in West Ashley. We had our first experience here a few weeks ago and we were very pleased with the results! My wife and I own a 2015 GMC Acadia Denali that we purchased from Crews Chevy a couple of years ago. We had been having a lot of issues with the A/C not blowing cold air, especially during the hot Summer months. We had taken it back to Crews Chevy a couple of times and they said everything "looked and ran normal". We knew that wasn't the case. After taking it back a third time we were given a quote of over $2,800.00 due to a bad "evaporator core" behind our interior dash. Crews Chevy claimed that they put dye in the A/C freon tank to determine if there was a leak somewhere. Based on their "professional" diagnosis, it was surely the evaporator core because they found "traces of dye" on the evaporator core. Or so they claimed... We decided to shop around and came across some good reviews of Torres Auto Repair in West Ashley (we're WA residents and like to support local business). So, we ventured over to give it a shot. We dropped the car off and got a call not much later that they were going to drain the freon tank and fill it to 2.5lb (mfr. standard fill for this model). Torres told us to bring it back in one week. Torres sent me photos of the freon tank and told me straight up that "there is not a single drop of dye in this car". I asked if there would have been any residual dye if the dealership had put it in a few weeks prior. They said absolutely. The dealership LIED to us. CREWS CHEVY IS A FRAUD. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS OR THEY WILL RAKE YOU OVER THE COALS. EVEN IN THESE UNCERTAIN CORONAVIRUS TIMES. ABHORRENT AND DISHONEST ON ALL LEVELS. Brought the Acadia back to Torres one week later. They were having a difficult time trying to diagnose the issue the day we brought it back as the car seemed to be running normally, only barely cold air coming out. Right before we were going to leave to pick-up our SUV, Torres called us and FIXED THE PROBLEM! They found a GMC "bulletin" from 2016 regarding the issues we were experiencing with the GMC and come to find out, there was a defective thermostat on the exterior of the car that regulated the temperature of the air blowing inside the car. Torres, an auto-mechanic that works on every make and model found this information and CREWS CHEVROLET (a GMC dealer) COULD NOT! Best part about all of this? Torres fixed this minor issue FREE OF CHARGE. Torres Auto Repair? You've gained customers for life. You saved us potentially thousands of dollars that the dealership fraudulently would have collected from us. You guys are the best and we greatly appreciate your honestly and professionalism. I couldn't recommend this business more!! I went here at first because the dealership was trying to get me to pay $700 for some random repair I said no and was going to take it elsewhere. So I took it to Torres, they did the repair for $5 and told me how to prevent it from happening. Everyone who works there is so nice and the mechanics are really quick! Short story, avoid! Torres installed my clutch incorrectly, wouldn't return phone calls, and refused to reimburse me for the replacement parts. In May 2018 I had Torres install a new clutch in my Nissan 370Z. I don't drive the car very much and put 800 miles on it since May 2019, when the clutch started to make whirring and creaking noises. I don't drive the car hard at all and babied it for the first 500 mile break in period. So I took the car back to them and they referred me to a local transmission shop to take the clutch back out and see what the problem was. The pressure plate and flywheel were completely scored on one side and the clutch disk was ruined. I contacted the owner of the company I bought the clutch from and sent him back the parts because they were still under warranty. He told me the clutch disk was installed backwards by Torres which caused it to rub the pressure plate and flywheel unevenly and heat up to the point that it damaged both. He replaced the clutch disk for free, was able to machine the flywheel for $50, and had me purchase a new pressure plate for $250. After that I contacted Torres to tell them what the owner said, and they told me the clutch disk only goes in one way (not true) and that it was caused by a machining error at the factory. Then they completely dodged my calls and didn't respond to any emails with the attached pictures I have here. The owner of the clutch company only works on 370Z's and only makes parts for this car. He has over 30 years of experience working with them. So do I believe the owner, who answered every email and call within a half hour and was completely helpful through the entire process? Or do I believe Torres who acted completely shady, wouldn't return calls or emails, and refused to pay for just the $300 I asked for to compensate me for the parts and not even the labor? Now I'm stuck with just eating the costs of the initial installation, clutch, new clutch, and new installation. I will absolutely never take my car here again, and make sure no one I know in South Carolina, let alone Charleston, to ever use Torres. read more

I had just moved here from Maine and my vehicle began to overheat. All of my tools were in a storage unit and my new place in downtown does not have a good place to do auto work. The symptoms of the overheating were unusual. It didn't act like thermostat or any of the usual suspects. I probably would just have started changing stuff in the hope that I could find the problem. This can get expensive and doesn't necessarily fix the problem. I made reservations at the Jeep dealer simply because I did not know any service shops in the area. I really did not want to use the dealer but figured I might as well. The dealer gave me an appointment dated a week from when I called, but said I could bring it in on Monday and they could possibly get it worked in before the Friday appointment. My car at the dealership for a week. The Horror!!! I decided to keep looking at local shops and ran across Torres Auto. Reviews looked good and I got a warm, fuzzy feeling about them. So, I called, and they got my car on Monday and started working on either that afternoon or the next day. I got a call on Tuesday that it had taken awhile but they had finally found the problem. The Jeep radiator was leaking and needed replaced. To be honest, I was a bit leery and a bit suspicious. I told them I wanted to look at the old part. At this point they said I could come take a look before they pulled the old radiator out. I took them up on the offer and went to see the problem. When I got there I was surprised to discover that the owner was working on my Jeep. He then showed me the problem and I immediately recognized that the issue matched the symptoms of overheating I was experiencing. The radiator had a small hole in it and had been leaking for some time. A lot of dried crud running down the inside back of the radiator. The radiator was sucking air . So, new radiator was installed and I picked the Jeep up the next day. I have not had any problem with the Jeep since. What I am really happy about is that I have found a mechanic who will get my repeat business because i am pretty sure I found not only a good mechanic but a good guy who runs an honest business. I happened to be out near the auto shop a few days later and it was around 8pm. I don't know who was there but the shop was open and they were working. At the time my car was being worked on, i noticed two late model BMW's and a Corvette being worked on. If high dollar cars have this guys trust, then I think my Jeep will be okay. read more

I called last Wednesday 7/27/2022 to make an appointment for my 2017 F150. I spoke to Tracey and explained that I have a hole in my muffler and wished to have it repaired. She made an appointment for 8/2/2022 @ 8am. She stated that it should only take a day if they have the parts and if they do not then it may take 2 days. When I arrived this morning to drop off my vehicle I was very surprised when the man taking my information told me very abruptly "we do not do exhaust work". I was confused since I had told Tracey last week what my problem was. He said that he could look at it if I wanted but could not repair it. I asked why would I pay for someone to tell me what I already knew. I also had shown him a picture of the hole from when I crawled under the truck last week. He seemed very agitated and threw my keys back across the counter. I would be VERY hesitant using this shop since they make appointments for work they do not even do and then treat someone with that disrespect. read more
