    Huevos rancheros
    Kelly G.

I was running late for work. But I needed some aspirin & sucrets to knock out this cold that was trying to take me down. So. I pulled into CVS. Grabbed the needed items. And then... The neon sign caught my eye. "Open"..."Bakery"..."Desayuno"... Well, old wives say you're supposed to feed a cold, right? Well, Leyla's Bakery fed me well that morning. I marched in & sat at the bar. Got my coffee right away. OMG it was strong & black. In spite of the language difficulty I was experiencing, I managed to order huevos rancheros from (maybe) the owner's 16-year-old daughter before she left for school. I am just getting into soft eggs. This was like my 3rd or 5th one. I loved thishuevos rancheros. I think I loved it so much because there was plenty of other stuff to mix into the runny yolk on the plate. Salsa, rice, beans, avocado, plus tortillas on the side. It was all delicious! It did not break my bank either. I was definitely pleased and will absolutely return. Even if I have to/Especially if I get to order from a HS'er who is willing to let me muddle thru messed up Spanish for a really long time before hitting me with the "I speak English." I'm a fan. 04/07/2012

It is difficult to have a decent conversation with yelling to the other person due to the loud music, it's not a family restaurant

The owner is from El Salvador and worked in some of D.C.'s favorite restaurants like Le Diplomat and Jose Andres' restaurants. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but start with the pupusas made from either corn or rice flour. I personally loved the mushroom and spinach ones in corn flour and the pork with rice flour. The shrimp is perfectly grilled and the pupusas come out crispy and smooth on the inside. The shrimp tacos are worth getting too. This place is so inviting and warm. Come in as a stranger and leave family.

It came with the usual cabbage and sauce/salsa I enjoyed the chicken and pork the best. Since you can't get a bite of shrimp in every bite like you can with chicken and pork, the shrimp is my least favorite. The pupusas were really good, so much so I really didn't need the sauce or cabbage. But it was nice to have of course. The food is made to order of course so it took a few minutes. The staff here is really nice and even brought my order to the front door when I went next door to grab my pizzas! I'll definitely be back for more pupusas! Buen provecho!

The corn flavor profile was so present and topped with the crema, it was chefs kiss. The tamarindo drink wasn't too sweet, a slight bit sour but it was very mild. It was interesting but tasty. I would absolutely order everything again, it was so good! There was quite a bit so it lasted for a few meals. I wish the red sauce had a bit more of a kick, it really didn't have a much of a presence to it. Overall, I definitely recommend!

I ordered three chicken and cheese pupusas, and they were a great size. I was nearly full after the first two. The flavor was on point. My apologies for my photo because I was already halfway through my third pupusa before I remembered to snap a picture. I also tried the corn tamale, which my wife and I enjoyed a lot. On top of that, I ordered a steak taco, which unfortunately didn't make it into a picture either because I ate it too fast. What stood out to me was the "shell." Instead of the usual flour or corn tortilla, it uses the same masa dough as the pupusa, and I really enjoyed that difference. We finished our meal with the nuegados en miel dulce, something I had never tried before. I was glad I did because it was delicious and a great way to end the meal. Overall, the food and experience were excellent. If you are like me and rely on Yelp reviews to decide where to eat, I highly recommend giving La Casita Pupuseria & Market a visit. You will be well pleased like I was.
