My first pathetic experience in NYC…read more When I just moved in NYC, I was looking for belly Dance school for fun, keeping fit, sexy movement and making friends. My acquaintance recommended me the dance studio and take a try-out lesson if I would like it. As she said, I checked the schedule on the website while thinking which class I should take....etc..etc.... was so excited. Later, I got a free lesson pass via e-mail. HOWEVER, I realized that did not have any equipment to print it out, even roommates. Went to the Djoniba reception desk, explained to a male staff about my situation and what I am suppose to do for it. Even though I suggested what if I would bring the laptop and show the free pass, he insisted on PRINTED OUT pass.....and his attitude was totally cold.... Instead of getting angry, I felt so SAD. Because of not only for the rejection and his attitude, but also I felt myself pathetic: the Dance instructors might be great as far as I heard, but I missed it because of his attitude and No printer!! I should have gone to kinko's for it? (But I didn't know that at that time and he've never given such an idea. ) Now I got all-in-one printer. nobody's gonna refuse me! Remember, unfortunately, someone who doesn't have printer is NOT qualified for Djoniba Dance and Drum Center.

However, like many, we discussed on several occasions over the years how we would like to get back to those fun years when we were dancing a couple of times every week. Well, we finally decided to stop just talking about it and to do it. Fortunately, we found Atlantic Dance Studio. After just a few short weeks into it, we were already doing the basics steps of the Rumba, Fox Trot, Waltz, Tango, and Push/Pull, and having fun dancing once again after a 40-year break. They have a very natural progressive way of teaching, and surprisingly in the following weeks we started getting into more complex moves. The group classes are also a lot of fun and the interaction with other students and instructors is a great approach to help the learning process. Atlantic ballroom offers a fun, friendly atmosphere, and a beautiful and comfortable large dance studio... private lessons are great with Ody, who is a very patient, fun, professional, and talented instructor... group classes are fun and informative... and Friday night social dance is a wonderful opportunity to practice what was learned during the week... and when you see instructor team perform dance routines, they are just incredibly talented. The owner, Sarika, is very friendly and cordial, keeps a close eye on the studio and the progress of students, and is an incredible national level pro dance performer. If you have been just thinking about taking dance lessons like my wife and I were for a couple of years, stop just daydreaming and give Atlantic Dance Studio a try. I had a lovely experience here yesterday morning for a HIIT Pilates class…read more First, I want to say that the branding and social media of the studio is excellent and definitely gave me genuine and welcoming vibes before I even step foot inside. There seem to be a good variety of classes and I was excited to take this morning one. I was greeted warmly by the instructor who had me fill out a waiver, and showed me the cubbies where I could store my belongings and the free water station. I grew to feel even more welcomed, just being in the space as she was so friendly, and the aesthetics were very warm, lit by the yellow neon lights. I also noticed a kids play area which is a thoughtful touch. The studio itself was beautiful with a large mirror and windows for plenty of natural light. There were small cork blocks, 3lb weights, Pilates circles, and stretching straps available. The class moved rhythmically, with the instructor clearly demoing each move and sequence then going around the room to encourage and adjust. It was such a relaxing, yet engaging way to start my day, especially paired with afro beats like Kaytranada and ALUNA in the background. Afterwards, we could spray and clean our props used. Mats were free my first time but I believe are for rent afterwards so bring your own and come try a class here!

(We did four classes total.) Gail takes the time to choreograph the dance too which is not always a given with private dance lessons. Patience (5/5): Truly one of the most patient instructors we have come across. Took the time to teach each section slowly and accurately. We learned our dance in three sessions and Gail was pivotal in making this happen. In the final session she helped polish some areas to help elevate the dance to another level! Quality (5/5): Our big day to showcase the dance hasn't yet arrived, but those who have seen the dance love it (that includes us too)! She was incredibly helpful in walking us through the moves (even when we were starting from VERY little experience) and incorporating our feedback on stuff we'd hoped to include in our first dance. She was both educational and fun, and created a very supportive learning environment. We've since advised a few other couples to check this place out, and to our knowledge, they've all had great things to say, too. So much of wedding planning is an annoying slog that you have to keep some of it exciting and fun, and our sessions with NY Wedding Dance definitely were some of the best highlights of wedding prep in that regard. We also need to give a special shout-out to Stine and Gail (the owner) for making the COVID wedding experience such a smooth one. When we cancelled our original wedding date in May 2020, Gail reached out to check in on how we were doing and was super flexible on the timings of our scheduled appointments, which meant so much in terms of a personal touch at a stressful time. She also reached out on our original wedding date, which we were both super impressed by as one of the most thoughtful gestures we encountered from our wedding vendors. Weddings are crazy right now.
