The hush puppies were small rocks, the coleslaw was watery mayo, and the service was non-existent, never came back to table. To make it worse, they charge a $0.50 fee for each meal using a credit card. A "BBQ restaurant" where the staff doesn't even know how the meat is prepared fresh or premade. Waitress didn even know if pork was Pulled, Sliced or Chopped. On the other hand I did witness older waitress at another table explaining specials. Wish we had known about them. We ordered chicken tenders and baked potatoes. When my dinner got to the table, I was mixing butter into baked potato. There was a mashed dead fly in the baked potato. I told the waitress and she acted like it wasn't a big deal and brought another potato potato. After seeing a dead bug in the food we decided to to not eat it. We went to the counter with our ticket. This is a locally owned business that has been in business for 15 years. They had a menu that had a variety of items for each individual to choose from. The service was amazing and you couldn't ask for better service. They had several things on the walls to keep your interest while waiting for your meal to come. I ordered the T-bone that was on special and it was pretty good. I will however ask them to remove the seasoning the next time because it was a little salty for me. The food was good and the staff are really friendly. Their checkin/table wait process is a little poorly thought out. There really isn't enough room in the entry to accommodate the backlog of people waiting for tables and it becomes an even bigger mess because of the traffic generated by those waiting to pay the cashier. We all enjoyed what we ate, but their bbq sauce is really just not good at all. First, and it becomes obvious at first taste, it's made with a base of grape jelly. This was popular back in the 1980's before BBQ went viral, but it's not very good. The BBQ itself is actually on the superior side so having such a lackluster sauce was disappointing. They be better off with a commercial brand. My son said his triple bypass was excellent and he'd go back for it again. The loaded baked potato was dry and needed more butter but it had plenty on it. I had the BBQ combo and there was plenty of food. So much I could only eat half. The star of the show was the pulled pork - absolutely perfect. The sausage was alright, but it won't be a repeat on my next order. We are new to Scottsboro and still trying to find our regular hangouts. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all so my family and I were immediately seated. After exploring the menu, I ended up with a burger and a side salad. They had a salad bar , which was a little out of place looking but I really enjoyed preparing my own salad! There was a lot of variety on the salad to which I was impressed with. My family enjoyed their meals; unfortunately, I don't recall what everyone ordered. We did share an awesome chocolate cake dessert!!! Passing thru Alabama, stopped overnight in Scottsboro. Based on the reviews, decided to try 50 Taters for supper. Ordered pulled pork sandwich, which came with the house bbq sauce. Had to try the sweet potato waffle fries with caramel sauce. I love both so the combo was irresistible. Total was under $11. Took the whole order back to my room. Wow! Sooo many fries! Ate about 1/3 of them and was feeling full already! The caramel sauce was the proverbial icing on the cake. Yum! By the time I got to the sandwich, I was almost full from the fries. Put the delicious bbq sauce on the pork and dug in. Excellent!! The sandwich was big. Could eat only a few bites (see fries, above ). Saved the rest for a future meal. I travel with insulated bags and freezer packs, so leftovers are no problem for me. The order also came with a small amount of slaw (a bit creamier than I like, but that's just a person preference) and a pickle spear. In short, I highly recommend 50 Taters. Good portions of delicious food for a very reasonable price. What more could you ask for! read more

While in Scottsboro for the April sales event on the square we decided finally go to 50 Taters for lunch. It was a great decision. The place was very busy but we were seated without much wait. The servers were awesome. They have a policy that all servers take care of all tables which works, period. Now comes the food. One had the hamburger steak with mushroom gravy and onions with corn fritters. The wife had the French dip sandwich with taters. (Baked potato, sliced and deep fried). I had the Cuban with the taters. The sandwiches were awesome to say the least and the potatoes were the best I've ever had. The corn fritters were real corn fritters with lots of corn, not just a few kernels with lots of breading. This restaurant has been placed in our top ten list for good family dining!! read more

12/27/19 I wanted to eat at a local BBQ joint. Thanks to Yelp I found 50 Taters. I was lucky to get the last available seat before a large crowd lined up for tables. The staff are super friendly. I like the way they all help eachother. I ordered the BBQ Pork. As a side I ordered a "tater" which counted as 2 sides. I thought I should order a tater since that is the restaurant's namesake. Since it was only 1 item I also ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. (It was not on the menu but I saw it listed as a side on the chalkboard with one of the specials of the day.) My fried green tomatoes were fresh and fabulous. The BBQ pork was tender but I had to douse it with the tasty BBQ sauce on the table to add flavor and moisture. The tater was a simple baked potato. (not sure why this counts as 2 sides, but it was a good baked potato).If I went back I would probably order a different entree.However, the food was good, the service was nice, and the price was extremely reasonable. read more
