So this barn is many peoples first introduction to horse care, and it was mine, so I only later…read morerealized that this facility isn't the best. two years ago I was a working student here, I was excited because they said on their website that for every eight hours you work, you get a free lesson. I figured that meant my weekly lesson paid itself right? wrong, it was such a hassle I didn't get any extra lessons. Anyways I have since found a private barn and am a non formal 'working student', since then, I have learned way more about horse care and realized how low Talbots bar was. Things I never realized until later included horses being left with tack on for over an hour, very basic feed, most horses we're just fed sweet feed(that I saw). I was also occasionally asked to dump a horses feed straight onto the ground (stall and field). And don't get me started on the rats, everywhere, it was perfectly normal to see like three rats in the corner of a stall. Horses are also very hard to get going, most needed to be harshly kicked to simply trot. And extreme girthiness was present. I would also like to mention I posted a three star review on Google (being generous) and the owner Emailed my mother, Trying to get me to take it down. Stating that she dosen't think minors shouldn't be posting reviews, and that I didn't see the full extent of their feeding program. No I was not included in the feeding program, but from what I saw in the nasty fly swarmed, rat filled feed room, It wasn't that extensive.

My daughter has really wanted to learn to canter and they worked one on one with her (even as part of a larger group) to achieve her goals. I was very pleasantly surprised how beautiful the cross country course is. Lots of room to gallop, and some friendly, but tall jumps. The dressage rings and Stadium jumping ring were absolutely fabulous, and beautifully cared for. I do wish that they had some more selection for food. A few more healthy options for those who are competing would have been great. Being stabled at The White Barn was initially quite challenging to find, the directions were not super clear. The beer garden is a surefire way to keep non-horse friends and relatives entertained. There's only one bathroom with indoor plumbing in the whole facility. And it's a hike away from where most people are stabled. I would love to come back again.

Of course for about a week afterwards, I had to endure questions like "Will we see Muffin, Rollo, and Peanut tomorrow?" and "Can you buy me Rollo for my backyard?" and "Why can't I have a horsey that is little just like me?" My equine has an old injury that needs special consideration and they have gone above and beyond to keep that in mind, offer advice, and strategies to manage it, as well as to manage her arthritis. I've struggled in the past to find trainers that are willing to work with our physical limitations. Burning Benjamins has never pushed us beyond our abilities, but are able to also challenge us to continue to move outside our comfort zone in a safe and encouraging way. Horse health and happiness is always the first consideration. We regularly discuss feed management, training plans, tack fit, shoeing strategies, veterinary care as well as chiropractic and acupuncture treatments to assist in achieving our goals. It is a thoughtful process and my opinions and wishes are never disregarded in the discussions regarding any plan of action. The farm is a welcoming environment and you instantly feel like part of the team. On my first cross country schooling in years with my horse, the Burning Benjamins team was helpful, encouraging and so patient with my nerves. I couldn't have asked for a better first time back out.
