I was here for Happy Hour and was not disappointed! Nestled right by the highway, this is a great bar with a an awesome patio atmosphere and really good food. We had the Tavern Tots -- you should always order these. Whatever sorcery and delicious caloric contents are inside these "tavern tots," I don't need to know, they were incredible. The pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches were both excellent and the buns were heated to absolute perfection. The fries are delicious and nothing was greasy or heavy, it was refreshing. Our service was excellent! Shout out to Todd, who had a mask to match his shirt. The managers came to the table and things were great. Only cons -- some outdoor flies (because the outdoors) and the sangria was a little watery for my preference. Eat here, drink here! It is outstanding and I'll be back! read more

Had one of the best pulled chicken sandwiches I ever had in my life at this place. It came with onion rings and coleslaw and barbecue pulled chicken on a brioche bun. Phenomenal had a Diet Coke with it and they gave us some homemade chips with it which were crispy and terrific, the waiters name was John. Nice fella talked with him for a while is what we needed. Was staying at the hotel next door and thought it'd be an easy place to grab what I figured would be an ok dinner...but was pleasantly surprised. Sat at the bar and both bartenders were great. Friendly, quick, appropriately attentive and made a good Manhattan. They have a full bar with a variety of selections for each liquor. They also have a series of happy hour specials which were well priced. I had the smoked chicken wings and found them to be tender, full of flavor and well smoked. They are served with a tasty BBQ sauce and made for a good dinner. I found the food to be frankly better than what I expected and the service to be great. All in, if you are in the area I think you should give it a try. read more

The brisket and grilled cheese sandwich is something I will probably dream about tonight. It's my favorite.

My Lyft driver raved about Liberty Station, so after reviewing the menu and reviews, I had to try it. Luckily, I arrived at my hotel in time for happy hour. The restaurant is very nice, and it was filled with the local after work crowd (of course, a good sign). I sat at the bar and intended to place.a takeaway order using the happy hour discounted menu. The bartender told me it was not for takeaway, but if you can't finish your meal, you can get a to-go box. I really wanted to order the cod street tacos, but the barbecue is so highly rated I had to go with that. When the plate arrived, I was very impressed. The presentation was immaculate. The corn tortillas were topped with exquisite pulled pork seasoned with what I would describe as a Memphis style barbecue sauce and very fresh vinegar slaw. I was able to consume two, and ended up taking one back to the hotel in the takeaway box. My "neighbor" at the bar ordered the pulled pork quesadilla, which was massive. Everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves. The two bartenders were very efficient, and seemed to have eyes in the back of their heads as they would turn around to anyone that needed anything. Sunday brunch was our reason for giving this place a try. We are very glad we did. We had reservations and were seated upon arrival. When making reservations I had requested to be seated in the dining room as other areas have communal tables/seating. Sunday is the only day they serve brunch and their regular menu is also available. Cocktails are expensive, especially their specialty cocktails. My husband ordered the brisket hash with a side of sausage. The hash arrived with two sunny side up eggs on top of the hash with two sausages on the side. Nice presentation. The hash was really good and the sausages were excellent. I had the brisket grilled cheese which comes with a cup of tomato bisque. The bisque was thick and tomatoey. I would have enjoyed it more if it was hot instead of lukewarm. The sandwich was awesome. Large chunks of brisket on perfectly grill Texas toast. It's a big sandwich. Can't wait to eat the leftovers. As for Madison Metro area BBQ and smoked meat grubs go, this place although very new is leading with a strong opening! Even during a trying and slow time of COVID matters, this place impressed me. Very kind servers and staff start to end. making you feel super welcome and taking good care of my every need. GM Matt and server Ryan were both top notch my whole visit. Able to answer any questions I had on the business and the many items I got. I even got a close up shot of the massive camelback smoker they have in the back, way cool! As my pictures show I tried a number of items from apps, entrees, smoked meats, salads and even desserts. I also tried the El Vaquero cocktail and as a picky cocktail person, even I enjoyed this one. Full list of local craft brews available as well to please all preferences. The 3-6pm daily happiest hour for beer, wine, apps and small plates is outstanding let me say that much. Big hitters you gotta try here. Smoked wings, brisket, brisket salad, sprouts(my top 3 favorite app), walleye (Friday fish fry fans will love this!) and yes, get dessert, mini skillet apple pie with vanilla bean ice cream to end on sweet note. I was impressed with every item sampled and would order them all again. The outside patio is spacious and welcoming for those sunny warm days ahead of us here in Madison. First time enjoying a nice dinner. We did takeout and got cheese curds ( yum) and Carolina Pork and the side was corn bread muffin and fries. I have to say this was very delightful! The takeout boxes are recyclable and they included hand wipes. My only complaint is that the butter was not honey butter for the corn bread but some type of herb butter. Came to Liberty Station in Madison for dinner. It is a great place to visit and sit outside. Staff was very friendly and offered suggestions for what the restaurant is known for as well as local beer. The Rebel Kent beer from Sheboygan was great. We had the BBQ Brisket sandwich as well as the Liberty burger. The Brisket sandwich had pickles as well as BBQ sauce. I ordered it with no cheese. The brisket was good. The Liberty burger was great and cooked to perfection. The fries were covered in BBQ flavoring. It was so thick that we had to ask for fries without the seasoning. Those fries came without salt. This is my go to barbeque place in the Madison area. Has great, large outdoor seating area for the summer and nice indoor bar area including a nice fireplace pit to sit by in the winter time. The restaurant also has nice happy hour and meal specials from 3-6pm everyday that I often come for, including an entree and beer. They also have 5 dollar old fashioned drinks and other mix drink options. I love ordering the grilled cheese brisket sandwich with warm tomato soup for the winter time. The barbeque sauce accompanying it was very good as well, a little smoky. My favorite side to get here as well is the sweet potato fries. Unlike other places that I have ordered sweet potatoes fries that are smaller, Liberty Station has very large and thick sweet potato fries with a lot of sweet potato in them. read more

Starting with the ambiance, it's so great! Inside and outside seating available, string bistro lights and fire pits outside. Overall an ok experience, I guess. We had a smooth reservation process, although had to wait for about 5 minutes for anyone to come up and ask us about being seated. There was no one up front and a crowd in the front of the restaurant when we arrived at 7:30 p.m. on a Friday night. Cannot say that I would recommend this location for any type of meal with which you actually want to hear your dinner partner. My husband sat across a small table and we could not hear each other at all... and no we do not have any hearing problems... It was just that LOUD. I've passed by this place a lot; always wanted to see what it had to offer. The outside patio dining with the café string lights is very appealing, especially on warm summer nights. I went at happy hour. LS did not disappoint. The staff, from the hostess, our waitress, to the manager, were all very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. We sat outside; don't be fooled. You can hardly hear any road noise even though your close to the highway. I got the Tavern Sampler; I couldn't decide on just any one BBQ item. I am oh so glad I got it, even though it was a lot of food. The brisket: tender, juicy, and just the right amount of fat (my favorite!) The pulled pork was also tender and packed with flavor. Not dry. There was lots of meat on the spare ribs. There's a spicy rub on it, I think it's a wet rub put on a dry rub. Nothing wrong with that. Good bark on the ribs also. This meat sampler certainly satisfied and was a belly filler! My daughter is a pulled pork connoisseur. She thoroughly enjoyed her sandwich. The BBQ sauce was sweet with just the right amount of tang. It's different than the rib sauce (a thicker, more ketchup-base sauce) The corn muffins are almost like a dessert. Just the way a corn muffin should be: crunchy sweet on the outside, moist, sweet, with just a bit of grit on the inside. I'd go back just to fill up on them. I spotted the Home 2 Suites from the freeway and we decided to stay there. I'm always leery about nearby restaurants being chains. This is right next to the hotel. I called to see if they had fishfrys and they do everyday and I made a reservation. Good thing, place is packed at 6. We got the same thing. Shared a lettuce wedge. Tomato soup was more like a red sauce, but Basil liked it a lot. The fish and chips(Boston cod) is amazing and on the plate are servings of ketchup, tarter, sauce, and a cream style malt vinegar. The malt was even better than the tarter for dipping. Delicious iced tea. Great service from Joanna. We were seated in the beautiful open bar. Can't wait to go back next year. read more

We were there doing Happy Hour. It was busy, loud, and packed with hungry thristy folks. We had wine @ $5.00 a glass . We had 4 glasses ( it's Happy Hour, OK! don't judge). We ordered a " shareable" big cheese filled TOTs and they were delicious $6.00. They had a special on the smoked prime rib dinner that included soup. 10oz prime cut( larger cuts could be ordered) it also included a Happy Hour beverage $32.00 dollars. It's Friday night we're in Madison Wisconsin so gave into the the culture pressure and ordered the Boston Cod Fish and Chips . It came in a reasonable amount of time , hot fresh and 3 large tender fresh fish. The fish set on a big full plate of fries and a delicious Smokey catchup tartar sauce and a Serrano cream-a. All for $18.00, that's a very fair going price for a Friday night fish dinner! We had a great set in front of a big indoor fire pit. I just wanted to add that the portions of food we received was way more than we both could finish. So we brought home 1 fillet of fish each and fries along with sauces and the silverware! ( just kidding about the silverware, this time my wife was watching me. . We chose cod but salmon, walleye, fresh trout were all on the menu and I might have left one out. We left a great tip (22%) I mention the tip only because earlier reviews said they left no tip at all because the lack of good food and poor customer service . 2 sides to every story right. This place is a fave of ours! Me and my love visited Liberty station (again) and made sure to try new dishes! We got the shrimp appetizer which was great but essentially just deep fried shrimp tossed in sweet and sour sauce. We also grabbed the brisket loaded fries appetizer which was my favorite of the night. Meaty flavorful cuts of beef brisket on top of a bed of perfectly crisped fries and a Smokey sauce that was unique but complimented the dish. Definitely will order the brisket fries again. I had the walleye and it was super bland and mediocre but all the ingredients were fresh and well cooked it just didn't have that Oompfh in the flavor I was hoping for. The Carolina brisket was moist and tender with some great robust flavor. Hubby loves coleslaw and disliked this coleslaw but he did enjoy the beans. The overall environment was clean, beautifully laid out and welcoming. We asked for patio outdoor dining and got a great spot. We had to ask for our check early when the mosquitos started coming though. We got ate up pretty good. We will return to try new entrees! read more

Smokey, flavorful, tender bbq! I've been wanting to stop by since the restaurant opened this summer. Finally had the opportunity to come in for bbq dinner and cocktails. The restaurant has a big open atmosphere, industrial design, with warm lighting and wonderful fireplaces. Beautiful patio area, can't wait to return in the summer with friends. Started off with some of the firecracker shrimp appetizer, I wish it had a little more heat, but we really enjoyed the app! We ordered the ribs and brisket entrees, all had excellent side options. I chose the baked beans and side salad with a champagne vinaigrette. Everything was flavorful, the ribs were fall off the bone with a great smokey char. The bbq sauce was sweet and sassy. This is my first time trying this place and very impressed! I ordered curbside and it took them less than eight minutes from the time I ordered. Today I had the brisket sandwich which was messy but Yum! I failed to see the small print saying that sandwiches are served with your choice of french fries, coleslaw or BBQ dusted house chips. Instead, I ordered the cornbread which was delicious! It came with butter. I love that my take-out was in recyclable cardboard boxes rather than styrofoam. The outdoor patio is spacious and has a fire pit. Hugo, the evening manager, said that they're planning on putting up a plexiglass wall with heaters so folks can still sit outside in these cooler months. From what I could see inside, the place looks real nice and also had a fireplace. With Covid spreading, they are limited to using only 25% of their space. People are 6 feet apart and servers were wearing masks. Service was with a smile and Hugo answered my various questions. I love that you can order anything on the menu when using carry out. Some restaurants are having to limit selections for carry out but not this place. Yay! I plan on doing carryout often to help support this place in these trying times. Can't wait to sit out on the patio next summer and to check out the indoors. Ordered off the HH menu, got the cheese curds ($5), firecracker shrimp ($10), brisket quesadilla and brisket loaded fries ($10 each) plus the pulled pork sandwich ($9 without a soda/draft beer or wine, $13 with). Overall good experience with friendly staff and environment. 5 Food was mediocre but we did just order off the HH menu. Felt the cheese curds were a little salty but the sauce helped.. the quesadilla was a little greasy that after a bite there was grease dripping down my hand, wish they offered some kind of bbq sauce to go with. The loaded fries where cold and stale, it had some kid of bbq seasoning/rub which I wasn't a fan of but. The fries were also topped with a cheese sauce. The last time we were at this restaurant I was not impressed. This time everything went much better. It is a barbecue type restaurant and is a pleasant place to dine especially at lunchtime when it isn't so busy. This trip my wife had a pulled pork sandwich and I had the liberty butter burger. Both sandwiches were well prepared with plenty of meat and flavor. My only complaint here as it is in many restaurants is that the bun was way too big for the average person to eat like a normal burger. A somewhat dense, thick bun like this is really unnecessary and out of proportion to what's inside. That said, the sandwiches were delicious but cutting them with a knife first was the way to get around the thickness of the bun. The french fries were good and the service was as well. The sandwiches were not the cheapest in town at $14 each but worth it. If you've never been here give it a shot. read more

I have visited Liberty Station now twice. Both times I was very pleased. The first was with friends. We had drinks, appetizers and a great meal. The Brussels sprouts were delicious and the craft cocktails excellent. We all had good things to say about our meals. Second visit was a working lunch. So in and out quickly. The family favorite-strangely enough-was the firecracker shrimp. I was a little disappointed with the brisket chili a dish I've had in other BBQ joints that had a better flavor. The quest is unnecessary and actually detracts. Drinks were good, the signature burger cooked to my liking. The brisket entree was tender but a bit in the dryer side than I'm used to. The service was impeccable and the food was delectable. Cooked just right and the showmanship of how the food was presented shows that someone cared. Monica was an excellent hostess. Very nice and willing to help out in anyway possible. And Paul Keeler, the President of the Keeler Hospitality Group was/is very hospitable. He has that aura about him that speaks of helping others. Fernando was our waiter and he was definitely one of the best waiters we had in a long time. Some seriously delish ribs tonight. The 3 different items ordered each were great in their own way. St Louis style bbq ribs. $26. Plus two sides. Of the options I selected two items I like to associate with a bbq meal. The Mac and cheese was yet another upscaling attempt at what in my personal view is the wrong approach. I love macaroni and cheese. It's simple. So long as the sauce doesn't break the pasta isn't cooked to smithereens, and is cheesy; that's all that should matter. Ribs were delicious and had tender meat and some brilliant caramelization as well. Baked beans were sweet and had a fantastic smoky essence. The mashed potatoes were something I'd not revisit. The trout was simply a good tasting dish. The prime rib order I took a small sampling of the perfectly flavored exterior crust which brought back fond recollections of every well cooked version previously enjoyed. The au jus however was simply terrible. While looking like something, it was literally nothing beyond brown water. Barely even a hint of saltiness. No meat flavor. To replicate this au jus would take a simple dish that the prime rib was served on. Remove the meal, stir in 2 or 3 teaspoons of warm water and tilt dish into a serving vessel. Done. That's exactly how lacking this was. Granted, this was a take away meal. Somethings simply don't travel well. But each of the entrees were fine it was the sides and in particular that dreadful au jus. Should've taken pics. But I was just interested in digging in when it all arrived. read more

Liberty Station is a great addition to the foodie scene here in Madison. We ordered an appetizer, cocktails and tho entrees. All of our food was delicious and I would come back again. Appetizer- Brisket Quesadilla-it was my favorite thing. Expect to get messy eating this. It was greasy and delicious. It was full of meat, cheese and peppers served with a side of pico and sour cream. You can easily order this as your meal and be satisfied. Cocktail- El Vaquero-Their version of a Paloma-it was perfect. I would totally recommend! Entree 1- Tavern Burger with fries. Messy and delicious. Fries give you a "Golden Arches"vibe. Be prepared to be in a meat coma. Entree 2- Texas Brisket-I ordered a half order with Mac and cheese and coleslaw. The portion was huge for a half portion. Brisket was smoked and seasoned simple enough that the smoke shined through-it had a good balance of fat and lean meat and was tender and flavorful. The Mac and cheese was Soooooooo good! My mom makes amazing Mac and cheese and I would consider this over hers. If you're looking to get a cheese pull you won't-this is creamy and comforting with a spicy kick that compliments the BBQ. Next time I'm ordering two sides of this. The coleslaw was decent not overly creamy, tangy and a little vinegar taste. Overall the food was great, service was amazing and servings were HUGE.
