Overall the food was amazing. The clam chowder was seasoned perfectly. The alligator bites were delicious. The the guacamole pepper jack chicken and lamb tacos were great. Service was super fast. Actually a bit too fast. We hadn't finished our alligator bites yet when our soup and main courses came out. My complaint is that Pepsi zero is not the same as Diet Pepsi. I knew from a previous experience so I didn't waste my money on it and just stuck with water. But we will definitely be back. Came here for an early business dinner with my team. It was my first time visiting Wisconsin and there was no way I was leaving without trying the cheese curds. We tried both the fried cheese curds and the local goat cheese curds and it appeared the goat cheese was liked by most. I had a lamb burger and it was really nice and juicy. Had a passion fruit mojito. For dessert I had the cheesecake and a tasting of vanilla ice cream. The cheese cake was dense and had cherry compote. The ice cream they served was from Sassy Cow which in itself, I was told, is very popular. The portions are pretty big. And I think the $3 to add chicken got us maybe 4 total bites of chicken. Chicken bacon Avacado sandwich was just OK all around. Tasteless chicken, weird blend with Avacado, very average bacon that added neither crunch not particular taste. Gyro Fries tasted like someone just dumped a ton of feta on a basket of fries. Allegedly there was tatziki sauce and other flavors, but they were drowned out. I didn't finish much of anything, which was visibly pretty obvious, and I didn't hide my disappointment when the waitress checked in our meal, but no effort of any kind was made to ask why or try to improve on it. I met some friends here for a casual dinner without much expectation. They have a cute cow-motif ambience but I think they could play it up more. Our service was just okay, but the server didn't seem to know much about the drinks, or maybe he wasn't interested in us and when I asked for guacamole (when the tacos were tasteless), he said they didn't come with guacamole, but were extra charge and walked away from the table. He didn't ask if I wanted it, but just seemed to say "no." I would have loved some! I had a cranberry frozen margarita and it was mostly delicious, but the last 1/4 was so tart, it was undrinkable. Honestly, I'd been kind of avoiding this place over the past few years due to assumptions. And while not all of them were completely incorrect, when it came to meeting or exceeding expectations regarding the fundamentals, The Tipsy Cow managed to pass. Drink selection was decent. What really made me happy was the beer menu wasn't sixty percent IPAs. There was a very healthy mix of styles. And being the beer snob I am when I go out, I like having a good selection to choose from. I did choose an IPA, but it was more on the fruity, refreshing side and not overly sour, which turned out to be a good thing when it came to what I ordered for food. First off, places that don't serve a side with their entrees or sandwiches can go suck an egg. There's the censored version of that sentiment. Tipsy Cow makes you order and pay for your side separately. What really annoyed me is that this is not made clear on the menu, and your choices pretty much boil down to french fries or tater tots unless you're splitting an appetizer with others. This is why they're not getting at least another star in this review. I got the spicy steak sandwich. Which, to my surprise and delight, was actually spicy. I'm serious on that because I like spicy food, but was expecting Midwest "spicy." Nope. It actually had a bit of a kick and brought me to the verge of sweating. And they even found the spot in cooking the steak where it wasn't overdone tough, but also not rare to medium rare chewy. It was a nice medium. Service was great, and our server was very attentive, which is always nice. Portions varied, from my steak sandwich being on the small side, to the "side" salad another ordered being the size of an entree salad. For me this is the sort of place you come for a weekend lunch or to eat before catching a movie at the theater nearby. It is definitely casual due to the way the menu and restaurant is set up, but not a place I'd go on really romantic date night. Overall, I wasn't completely let down as the taste of the food passed muster, the service we received was good, and I've lately given patronage to restaurants who gave me a much crappier experience than this one. read more

They simply have the best mac and cheese I've ever had in my life! They have the base Mac and cheese featuring a 3 year cheddar cream sauce, but then they can dial it up a notch with your choice of add ons! We stopped here for dinner when we were in SunPraire for shopping. My husband was craving for burger and when we looked up, Tipsy Cow showed up as the nearest one that had burgers. Their website main page promotes the Local Lamb Burger, and by the looks of it he instantly decided that's the one he was gonna try. We ordered the burger, along with Alligator Bites and the Memphis Tots. The server mentioned that as the burgers didn't come with any sides, they offer anything from their appetizer menu as a half order. We stuck to full order as we intended to share the food between us. The alligator bites arrived first.. there was very little meat and felt chewy. I've had alligator before from Montana/Idaho area but it wasn't this chewy. The bites were okay I'd say - we'd probably not order them again. The rest of food arrived next. The service was pretty quick even though it seemed pretty busy. We seated in the outdoor area. It was very casual. The Memphis tots tasted great. I loved the spice... had to literally control myself not to over eat them, lol. The burger was pretty standard. We decided we didn't quite like the egg with the burger as it made everything messy and super ceded the taste of everything else. Couldn't quite tell if the meat was lamb or port or beef, as all we could taste was the egg. I being a super fan of eggs, didn't like the combination as such. We'd probably come back some other time again when we are in the area and hungry, but try other burgers and appetizers as it seemed like a promising menu. read more

Sandwiches didn't come with fries so we had to order those on the side. I've eaten at many of the Madison-area restaurants and the Tipsy Cow is absolutely the worst. I've tried three things on the menu and regretted eating there every time. Their hamburgers are totally greasy, tough, undercooked (even when I asked for well done) and over priced- $14 for a hamburger with no side. I'll never eat there again. read more

Six of us went for lunch today st the Tipsy Cow for their Friday fish dinner. The fish and fries was absolutely wonderful! Fresh cod fillets and fresh fries. So very good! I'd give the food five stars, but it goes down one star because of the acoustics. There is no sound deadening in the room at all and even though the tables weren't all filled, any talking bounced off the walls and floor so much that we couldn't hear each other talk without shouting. Please, please fix this as we'd love to come back. We planned on a nice dinner ( which we got), but to also talk with relatives from out of town. Sadly, that was not possible. We were making a trip across the state to see a business partner, and were looking for a spot to eat. Since there are so many small towns between, we drove by a few spots that were total dives and continued looking. This spot had some good reviews so we decided to stop, and we were so glad we did. We gave our name and we're seating within 10 minutes, which was fine because they had spots in the bar to grab a beer. They had tons of beer options which was great. Service was top notch and super quick. We all ordered a different sandwich and tomato soup. I ordered the mushroom grilled cheese and OMG so good. The tomato soup was literally the best we've ever had, tons of spice and flavor, topped with cheese curds. What else could you want? It was awesome. Went to Tipsy Cow in Sun Prairie Saturday on a date. Randomly saw the place after going to Menards and decided to try something new, GREAT decision. The place has a bar and grill vibe but the high backed booths and decor add a more high end feel. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's upscale by any means, it's a relaxed vibe, just feels luxe although I wish full booths were available, the centerpieces are literally empty 6 pack boxes (takes away from the overall luxe decor) and the tables were super small. When we go out we order food! We need some table space to accommodate that. Our waitress Carly was friendly and attentive. Her service was Superb and I appreciate how knowledgeable she was about the dishes. Appetizers: Korean BBQ Fries & Alligator bites. The Korean BBQ fries were outstanding. My hubs said he'd go back there simply for those. We compared these to liberty stations brisket fries and unanimously agreed the korean fries won!! The alligator bites were good. Perfectly cooked (love me some alligator) and the sauce was this mesquite Smokey blend that really complimented the appetizer. Entrees: Tipsy burger with a side of clam chowder and tots & a side of the Aioli truffle sauce and Lamb Burger with a side order of truffle fries. Both burgers were prepared perfectly. I didn't add anything to the lamb burger and everything provided complimented it perfectly. Tender fresh lamb it was great and really filling. The bacon is ridiculously good, I don't know where it's from but I need it in my life! The truffle fries.... Let me tell you... this place has mastered the art of fries. They cooked the fries in an onion infused oil and the Aioli truffle sauce just blends and melts perfectly together with that. My favorite of the meal. I will go there just for those fries. Clam chowder- unsure if it was made in house or not but hubby said he wouldn't be surprised if it was. Said it was great and fresh with the perfect balance of flavors. Tots were simply tots but after my hubby had some of my truffle sauce he ordered a side order of that sauce for his tots! Soooo gooood! Tipsy cow We've ate here multiple times, this place has hands down the best cheese curds. IMO. Also, if you want more practical, less show. The Sun Prairie location is for you. Downtown is great but the parking and how busy it is usually drives us to the sun prairie location. Parking: They have a large parking lot, we've always been able to find spaces. Seating: Every time we've went there, we've been seated right away. The hostess stand is right off the door, so it's very straight forward where you have to go. Bathroom: This place has some of the nicest rest rooms. Newly renovated, multi stall, in the back of the dining area. Drinks: I got a few iced teas, which were pretty great. Per usual. Today they had sprecker root beer on tap, which is great. Only down side was no free refills, which we didn't know until after we ordered. Food: So long story short, I used to be able to take on a tipsy burger with no stomach problems after. This time was different. Normally my fiancé complains about how grease filled the sandwiches are, but today I had to as well. We both ended up sick. Not sure if I'm losing my ability to eat super grease filled food and be OK, or today the burger was extra greasy. I'd normally rate this burger 10/10 but today was 4/10 Apps: Pickles fries half order 8/10 and goat cheese curds 10/10, we decided to get two apps. 1/2 orders. I love the curds. They're different and creamy. The pickles, to me were a tad soft, not as much crunch. But my fiancé loved them. Saying they were some of the best. So they get an 8/10. The food was THE BOMB! I had a Smoked Salmon Grilled Cheese sandwich - if you think that sounds good, you should know it tastes GREAT! Nice chunk of smoked salmon between a couple beautiful slices of a multigrain bread with slices of red onion and cheese. Hubby had Chicken Fritters - think of them as juicy, succulent, delicious long strips of chicken breast. I could eat those a couple times a week!! Also a "basic" green salad that was anything but basic! Add iced tea and the bill came out to $33. Delicious food and definitely worth the stop!! read more
