We had reservations made through OpenTable - directed there by their website, for 6 on Friday night (thought that was smart), and arrived just before then, there was a bit of confusion because I'd asked to be seated on the outer edge of the patio and they hadn't read the note ahead of time. They were able to grant our request after a short wait. Food: the tavern "tots" ($11) were tasty and led to a conversation about how we could make these at home with other flavors. The tavern sampler ($47) included 3 meats, 2 sides, and coleslaw topped with pickles. We chose cornbread and sweet potato fries. The fries were excellent. The cornbread was unremarkable, but fine. Meats were decent- tender but not falling apart. The best was the pulled pork. The platter wasn't generous, but between the tots and the platter, enough food for two adults. Service: our drink/appetizer order was taken fairly promptly, and both came out in a reasonable amount of time. We didn't have napkins/flatware and snagged them from a nearby table. It took a bit of time to get our entree. Our server came by a few minutes after the entree was served with plates and a steak knife for the ribs. A second beer came out promptly, as did the check. Overall, a positive experience, with room for improvement. Previous reviews mentioned spotty service and I'd say they're correct. I hope management uses this to make improvements. read more

We tried take out from this new restaurant last week, and we enjoyed it! My husband loved the ribs, so much so that he wants to have them again tonight, which prompted me to remember to write this review! I tried the brisket grilled cheese, which was good, but had a little too much meat for my liking- but I'm sure most people would love it for that reason alone! I stole my husband's cornbread, and that was quite yummy! My son loved his buttered noodles, they were corkscrew noodles and looked so bougie! This was the third instance I patronized Libery Station. The first two times were great, and there were no notable issues. The third time, however, was different. We ordered the Brisket Loaded Fries, which looked great, but upon eating it, I discovered the meat was different. Something had changed. The brisket portion of the fries was a mashup of very fatty meat. The previous times I had it were not like this. This used to be my goto dish, but Im shaken by the change. I actually liked Tavern. The redeeming quality to the visit was the second dish ordered, which was the Boston Cod Fish and Chip. Fish and chips was delicious. There were no complaints with this one. I am splitting my review stars as a result. I hope Tavern changes the formula back to what it was. The second time I was there was around September 11th, 2023. This most recent visit was around September 5th 2024. I hope to be back in 2025 and have the original Brisket fries return. This review is for the Madison location. read more

What a great place near the highway with good food and drinks at a reasonable price (especially during happy hour daily 3-6 pm - if you have the chance to try this place, I suggest coming during this time)! I tried it first time and then went back two more times within two weeks. The menu is quite large with something for everyone from tasty wings to hearty BBQ meats. Everything I have tried has been great. I've tried the cheese curds, the wings, the BBQ sampler, the cod fish and chips and the blueberry cobbler dessert. The brisket is very good and you can see the smoker doing its job so you know the food is fresh! My favorite so far has to be the wings. They are lightly fried with a seasoning that isn't too spicy but still has a kick - it's an awesome appetizer. For entrees, you can't go wrong with any of the choices but I am partial to BBQ so I suggest trying that if it's your first time (it's known as a BBQ restaurant). If you want to enjoy food in a nice environment (indoor or outdoor), this is the place to go! The inside is spacious and has a cool hanging bar in the middle with lots of TVs (come catch a game or two). The outdoor patio is very large and has shade so it's perfect for a nice brunch, lunch or dinner outside. Added to this nice external environment is the happy hour with its affordable drinks, appetizers and full entrees. Come and give this place a try. read more

I'm from St. Louis and stayed near here on a business trip, was in walking distance so I thought I'd check it out. Kind of an industrial looking place on the inside but cozy, with a nice patio. Lots of seating. Really nice staff, and the food is delicious. The brisket is the most tender I think I've ever had. Try it, and try the brisket, don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

I am such a fan of liberty station, I've been here at least half a dozen times and it doesn't disappoint, ESPECIALLY, if you come for happy hour (everyday from 3-6pm!). Here's the low down on the hh food and my go to drink - $5 old fashioned, however you like it, delish and hits the spot every time -$15 you're willing to splurge, old fashioned which is phenomenal. Made with whistle pig and perfectly highlights it. Just yum - tavern tots, remember how much you like tots? Well add cheese and crema melty gooiness inside and here it is. Just puré amazing - cheese curds, $5 and good! Not the absolute best but still really good - brisket loaded fries, yummy and good to split with friends or have as an entree - firecracker shrimp, lots of sauce and not too much shrimp but good as an app to share with yummy crunchiness - brisket quesadilla, cheese, brisket, how can it go wrong? And truly, this doesn't go wrong. It's actually really amazing and one of my favs on the menu - green chili pork stew, hot, deliciousness straight basically from Colorado. It's so good, meat is tender with green salsa, cheese, and sour cream. Truly if you've never had this before, you should absolutely order it from here - chicken wrap, I've ordered this multiple times and it just hits the spot. Has bacon, ranch, smoked chicken. Came here with some customers. Didn't know anything about this place and I was pleasantly surprised! Placed smelled great and was very cool inside. There was a smoker out back which was really cool. The food was fantastic. I had the pork shoulder and Mac and cheese. Everything was fantastic. My customers both got the brisket and loved that as well. The service was really good and quick. I ordered the brisket salad. It was good but the blue cheese was overpowering. I didn't taste any bbq ranch dressing so I should have asked for more dressing because that would've improved the salad. There was a good amount of brisket on the salad but it was very fatty so I needed to cut all the fat off. The salad was $21.00 and the most expensive salad I've ever ordered. Others in our party seemed to enjoy their food but my husband said North and South was better. The restaurant is attractive we sat outdoors and it was pleasant. The waitress was good but put all orders on one ticket. We should have asked for separate checks or better yet she should have asked us. When I got home I noticed a strong smoked wood smell coming off my hair. I didn't like that and needed to wash it! I wouldn't return unless family or friends picked that restaurant but I'd order something else. read more

I'll tell you - it was ballsy as hell opening up a restaurant during COVID-19 and these folks are doing it right! I tried them for takeout and was very impressed with what I got. First of all, the food was top notch. BBQ ribs were well seasoned - had a really nice chili-powder flavor and they were liberally slathered in their BBQ sauce. The meat was also quite literally "fall off the bone." I'd compare them to Beef Butter on the north side in terms of quality and I was very impressed from a small chain out of Arizona. I didn't eat inside but stepped inside to pick up my carryout order. All the staff and most customers were wearing masks. It also had a very nice atmosphere and I'd love to come back to sit on their patio when it warms up again. It was an odd 70 degree day in November and they still had patio seating (which in retrospect is a very odd thing to see in Wisconsin in November lol) My only complaint - I believe they have curbside pickup (according to the listing on Google) but it's not super obvious. Most restaurants are putting a sign in a few of their parking spaces to signify that they have curbside pickup. It'd be nice if they made this a little more obvious. First time in and will most definitely be our last. Went in for happy hour... tables were all high top so not suitable for our 4 year old. Was informed that we wouldn't be able to have the "happy hour" prices if we sat in a table that wasn't in the bar. Even if it was 4 extra steps from the bar area & out on the patio. I hope that anyone whom is impaired & unable to sit at a high top or have younger children will get treated better & hopefully in the future be allowed to enjoy the benefits of the happy hour in a more accommodating manner. Sat in the "dining room" area where it took a long wait to even see a server. Server was nice and engaging. (Only reason for getting the second star) Food would be considered only ok... Child quesadilla was more food than an adult could eat, the fish & chips was greasy/ fries were overly seasoned and became soggy quickly from the fish piled on top. cod tacos - don't waste your money. They had tiny pieces of cod on under cooked corn tortillas with more cilantro than anything else. The fish on all 3 tacos was equivalent to 1 of the pieces on the fish & chips. Ordered a Pinot Noir & thought I was going to get the house- didn't know until the bill came that she gave me the most expensive one on the menu! Didn't make a fuss / my fault for not being specific, but she should have asked which one I wanted/ or automatically given house. read more

Top tier place. Truly. Best to make a reservation however. My party of two didn't and we got seated at a small wrap around bar with a fireplace in the middle, since there weren't any tables available for the night. Actually turned out perfect; it was cozy and intimate. The food was delicious; it left us speechless and wanted more. The brisket loaded fries-omg. They're to die for. Literally the only restaurant within walking distance from the Alliant Energy Center and the neighboring hotels. Good for them because I'm sure they're making lots of money from all the tourists/convention folk like myself. I was very pleased. This is a legit restaurant with good food and a cool atmosphere. Plenty of space at the bar, they had tvs. It also seemed to be a good place for large groups. I wasn't sure of the type of cuisine, solely based on the name, but they're known for barbecue and were actually featured on one of the Food Network shows!! I got to-go so I could chill back at my hotel and it was packaged really well which I appreciate. The ribs were pretty good and tender, but some of the bones were softer and more like cartilage? I thought that was weird. Cornbread with butter awesome! And the baked beans were unique and had great flavor. Fun fact: I was able to purchase a beer to go. Definitely enjoy a meal here if you're in the area! On the negative side for me, I wish they had online ordering! Considering that they're servicing a few hotels they really need that. I would have much preferred to order ahead and walk over to pickup.. as opposed to having to order with the bartenders and wait (even tho it wasn't that long.) read more

My party of 4 was at the Midwest Horse Fair and decided to walk over to Liberty Station since it's so close to the event. We were not disappointed! We all ordered something different including an appetizer. The cheese curds are a must! Our smoked meals were rich in flavor, done perfectly, was not dry or tough. It was excellent and I will definitely be coming back! The service was excellent as well. Our waiter was upbeat and very helpful. He was there as soon as we needed refills and boxes. My experience was just okay, I wish I left feeling more impressed. The restaurant itself is beautiful and spacious and is a great place to celebrate a special event. I ordered a margarita, loaded tots and the brisket sandwich. The highlight of the meal were the tots, though I wasn't a big fan of the sauce it came with. The margarita was not great, really watered down. The brisket itself was dry and a couple of the pieces of meat were lukewarm to the touch. We reserved a room and only had one server, I think the restaurant should reconsider that for large groups, I felt bad for them because I'm sure they did the best they could. She could easily have avoided us. Management had already stepped in. But she didn't. It took courage to come back to us and say she was sorry. My friend & I visited Liberty Station for lunch since she wanted to try it out and it wasn't too busy. For an appetizer we shared the Firecracker shrimp which was tempura battered shrimp with Thai sweet chili sauce. The shrimp didn't taste fresh with a strange aftertaste and could have been a-lot better. Something was off with the appetizer. They didn't season their shrimp just dipped in tempura batter, fried, and then it was just drenched in the Thai sweet chili sauce. It was a little bland for my personal tastes. My friend ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork Tacos which is an appetizer she ordered as her lunch while I ordered the Smoked Prime Rib Dip Sandwich. My friend said her tacos were dry, bland, and didn't taste that great. She didn't really enjoy her tacos. My Prime Rip dip sandwich was actually pretty delicious with the Au jus dip very flavorful. My side of fries were hot & fresh. Overall, our server and service was great but the taste & quality of the food itself could have been a lot better but maybe we just ordered the wrong things. Ordered take out because COVID. We got a prime rib sandwich, shrimp po-boy, Caesar salad and cheese curds. Everything was very good! Salad dressing on the caesar is one of the bests in the Madison area. The fries were great with a light cajun seasoning as were the homemade chips. What gave this the cherry on top?
