I had EPI-LASIK with Dr Gold on the 2nd February 2018 - i've been considering eye surgery (vision correction) for years but my eyes are so important it took a lot of courage to take the step! I found Dr Gold exceptionally reassuring, he put me completely at ease, there were loads of tests and explanations. I will not lie and say it was a breeze because it's not a pleasant experience having surgery of any kind!! However Dr Gold and his staff were fabulous and it did only last a couple of minutes (which i kept repeating to myself!) - straight after the operation i could read!!! The recovery period is absolutely as they described and provided you follow their guidance it will proceed exactly to plan (which i totally did!!). The follow up was great too, i have had regular check ups and phone calls from Dr Gold himself after the operation to ensure i was ok. It is now 4 months on and i have 20:15 vision, no more astigmatism and I don't need reading glasses (i'm 47)! I still panic when i get in the car and realise i haven't got my glasses on... before i remember i don't need them anymore... i also still push my imaginary glasses up my nose! But 32 years of wearing glasses creates habits that i look forward to changing!! No more steamed up glasses, no more ferreting around for prescription sunglasses, no more depth perception issues (caused by the astigmatism). This is a bit of an unusual review, as I learned from Dr Gold that I'm not a good candidate for laser vision correction. But I decided to write a review anyway, because I have a unique "insider" view of Dr Gold's practice. (Kind of like when you work in a restaurant and you know if the kitchen is clean!) After working here for 3 years and seeing patient after patient thrilled with their results, I finally got brave enough to ask Dr Gold to do a screening to see if I was a candidate for Epi-LASIK. I was tired of paying a fortune for progressive eyeglasses and sunglasses, and never had any luck being fitted with contact lenses. Of course, I knew that very few people are not candidates, based on my experience here, so I was fully expecting to hear that I could have the surgery. But after my screening and another highly specialized screening at another doctors office, Dr Gold explained to me that the surgery wouldn't be perfectly safe for me. I was disappointed, of course. But also glad that the doctor was honest enough to turn away the business. My disappointment is almost constant now, as I've had to buy new prescription glasses and sunglasses again ---which could have covered a huge portion of the LASIK expense. So, I've been trying to get Lasik for over 5 years now but every doctor I've gotten a consultation at either refused to operate on a prescription as high as mine (-8.00 right -8.50 left) or because my cornea was too thin for traditional Lasik to make the flap. After years of frustration with contacts, I was researching a different surgeon not associated with the big Lasik farms (TLC, etc.), I found Dr. Gold. Dr. Gold is an incredibly nice and professional Doctor. You can tell he genuinely cares about his patients. He made sure, every second of the process that I understood what was going on which includes pre-op, post-op and all the follow-up visits. If any issues arise, he is available 24/7. The surgery itself was painless and over in less than 10 minutes. Immediately after surgery, I was able to see the time on the clock; which I've never been able to see without contacts (could barely see my hand in front of my face). One week later, my vision was about 30/20 and two weeks after that, I was at full 20/20. Just a heads up to anyone reading this, for pre and post op, there are many many different eyes drops you need to use multiple times a day. By an amazing stroke of luck I met Dr. Gold one Saturday morning several years ago. I had sustained an eye injury and, hoping against all hope, went looking for an ophthalmologist who might be able to see me for an urgent visit on a Saturday morning in his private office! By chance I walked into the Liberty Vision offices and there was Dr. Gold chatting with his staff in his waiting room. When he saw me he immediately jumped up and said "Hi I'm Dr. Gold I'm an ophthalmologist. What's wrong?". When I explained what had happened and what my symptoms were he told me that I needed an immediate examination and brought me right into his exam room. I had an excellent experience with Dr. Gold from start to finish. He took a great deal of time with me during the consult and explained everything very clearly. It was so refreshing to meet with the actual surgeon during the consult. The office staff is also warm and lovely. Dr. Gold was so kind on surgery day, and the procedure, while unpleasant, didn't hurt. The surgery was done on a Friday. That weekend was painful for me, especially so because I cannot take oral steroids (something Dr. Gold prescribes to his patients to make them more comfortable for the first days). I did take all the prescribed drops. I had to call Dr. Gold a few times. I was able to contact him directly day or night. After the weekend, I did better each day. Days later I was already seeing very clearly much of the day. By the following week, my vision was clear all day long, and the pain was all gone. I have zero regrets. This was one of the best decisions of my life. 3 months out, I have some dryness, but it will only get better, and is extremely tolerable. Dr. Gold is a gem. I can't thank him enough. I was referred to Dr. Gold through my brother who had his eye surgery about 12 years ago. I was sick of glasses (that I would sleep with just to wake up in the middle of the night to see the time) and the expensive contacts that irritated my eyes and would make them so dry. I had the Epi-LASIK surgery over 5 years ago and I m so happy I finally did it. I was thinking about it for 10 years, I was soooo scared! I never wanted anybody close to my eyes never mind do a surgery on them! But for some reason I trusted Dr. Gold a 100% to do the exams and finally the surgery. I went to see 2 different LASIK offices before Dr. Gold and I was very disappointed not to be able to see the doctor before my surgery at these places. There were assistants who just checked my eyes and said that my cornea is too thin to do the surgery and couldn't t really answer any of my questions. After a week they called me and offered me some very expensive, complicated option. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Dr. Gold at his office. He also said that my cornea is thin but in the border line so he sent me to a cornea specialist who said I was safe. The surgery was so quick and painless, it is really remarkable. Awesome experience!!! After procrastinating for years, I decided to move forward with laser vision correction following my consult visit with Dr. Gold. Dr. Gold is patient, gentle, took his time to answer my questions and alleviate my fears and concerns regarding the Epi-Lasik procedure. I had my surgery in January of this year and the results were better than I ever could have imagined. Dr Gold and his staff were outstanding and made me feel comfortable and informed from day 1. I visited three different LASIK providers in New Haven and New York before going through with my operation, and despite the excellent reputation of the others Dr Gold stood out because of his personal attention to me, clear explanation, great reviews, and because I never felt that he pressured or rushed me into the surgery. I'm now four and a half months post-surgery and despite having worn glasses/contacts since I was 11 I am seeing almost 20/10. I also recommend the PRK surgery to anyone deciding between PRK and EPI-LASIK; while I am told the experience differs for everyone, I found that the days right after the operation were pretty tolerable. I had Epi-Lasik with mono-vision done on both eyes on 2/5/16. Dr. Gold explained the procedure very clearly, the staff and follow up on the procedure was first class. I can now see distance wise as well as read without glasses. Having had glasses for last 38 years this has made a huge difference in my life. I still go to cover up when I head out in the rain then realize my glasses are gone and no need to worry about dirty or spotted lenses. I was contemplating LASIK surgery but was not sure about letting someone cut my cornea. Several years ago I always wanted to get laser vision correction. I made an appointment at another laser vision facility about 2 years ago did the exam and they said I did not qualify for the Laser correction. About 4 months ago I was visiting my sister in-law and my nefew was there and he had the epi lasik correction done by Dr.Gold. He referred me to Liberty Vision in Hamden the town I live in. I called 3 days later and set up an appointment with Dr.Gold he did my eye exam and said I was a perfect candidate. He explained in detail how the laser vision correction would be done. Dr.Gold said I have mono vision and only needed to correct my right for distance. I can see close with my left eye. It has been 3 months since my epi lasik correction and I see better than 20/20. Dr. Gold performed my Epi-LASIK surgery a few months ago. I was looking for a doctor I could trust to perform the surgery, as well as one who made sure everything was healing appropriately afterwards as it can take awhile to fully recover from Epi-LASIK. Dr. Gold and his staff were thorough and explained all of the details of the surgery and recovery. The surgery itself was quick and went well. The first few days after surgery were rough for me, but after that I was extremely happy with my choice to get the surgery. After a lifetime of dealing with glasses, I can now see without any help! Unfortunately, I fall into the very small percentage of people who get dry eyes after the surgery, but Dr. Gold is helping me with that as well. I had Epi-LASIK done at Liberty Vision in January. I had worn contacts for distance since i was in my teens until more recently not being able to see close up with the contacts in. I tried or should I say endured glasses with bi-focals for the past few years. I never liked wearing them . I am extremely pleased with the results of the LaserVisionCorrection . Dr Gold is my very favorite doctor of all time. He is always on time (a rarity in the doctor profession) and is an extremely caring and professional doctor. I had epi-lasik on both of my eyes and I can't be happier with the results. I did have an issue with one of my eyes but Dr Gold helped me through the process. I had been contemplating getting Lasik for a while. I have been wearing glasses for over 40 years and had a problem with astigmatism as well as far-sightedness. Mt concerns the procedure were that even if it went well I would probably still need to wear reading glasses. Dr. Gold explained an Epi-Lasik procedure called mono-vision whereby one eye is treated for distance and the other for reading. The procedure allowed me to be able to correct my astigmatism, while not having to use reading glasses. I found Dr. Gold and his staff to be very knowledgeable and caring. Having Epi-Lasik with Dr. Gold was the best decision. After consulting with many different doctors, I decided that Dr. Gold was the man for the job. He was very direct and honest.
