I was on vacation and broke my glasses. I got home and decided to give Total Vision a call. They said to come in so they could look at my glasses. They were so pleasant and helpful. The woman spent at least a half hour trying to find the replacement part online and she did. I had the glasses fixed within a week. I would highly recommend Total Vision in North Haven to everyone. I had an awful experience here solely due to the doctor. He was rude, dismissive of my eye concerns, and made me feel stupid. I was honest that I had missed my annual eye appointment last year, and he made me feel like a bad person for neglecting my eyes. (I had a one year old at the time who unfortunately was very sick and I was a bit overwhelmed with her medical appointments). I was also honest that I change my two week disposable contacts every 3-4 weeks to save money. He once again chastised me. I disliked my experience so much, and wanted to run out of the exam room. I will never go back! Please note, the eye doctor's staff is amazing and kind and took great care of me. It is a shame they work for a man who lacks people skills and basic kindness. Additionally, please note they provide $5 Starbucks gift cards for reviewing their practice on-line, which likely accounts for the high ratings I originally saw when I booked the appointment. read more

RUDE and incompetent front end staff greeted my husband for his appointment by saying "you don't have routine vision insurance." After he assured her that we do in fact have coverage she said "well, my computers down so I can't look it up anyway" During his exam he was told to find which photo on a page was blurry. When he told the woman that all of the photos looked the same she barked "ones blurry. Look again until you find it" later when she was performing the test where they blow air at your eye, she kept hitting his eyelid bc she wouldn't warn him before and he would blink. When he asked her to warn him a moment before she ignored him and performed test again (hitting his eyelid) then announced his eye pressure was high and the test would need to be redone at a later date. At this point his eyes were dilated and he was sent out to look at frames. After picking it a simple set of frames he went with the sales rep to order them. He was quoted a price that's double what we normally pay at our old optometrist in Bristol. After she evaded questions about the price we decided to buy his glasses elsewhere and he was told "you can have the RX for the glasses, but not the contacts." When he asked if they were referring to the contact fitting she said "no. The actual RX is different." At that point we knew this place was one big hot mess and paid for our exam and left. I will also point out that while I waited for my husband to come out every customer who came to the counter was given attitude and/or given a piss poor resolution to late glasses, glasses that arrived broken or billing issues. From now on we will just drive the hour to our wonderful optometrist office in Bristol. read more

I've been to a few optometrists in my life but Dr. Lefland and his team are truly the best! Everyone is incredible knowledgable and friendly. The best thing for me is that I never have to wait long in the waiting room or the exam room. The last time I was there, after taking my history I was told "The doctor will be right with you". Usually this means you have to wait a few minutes alone in the room, but this time Dr. Lefland literally walked in as the staff member walked out! I was so impressed. When selecting contacts for me, Dr. Lefland was considerate of both quality and price, and when he didn't have my contacts in stock, he ordered them immediatley and they came in a couple days later. The optician was incredibly nice and was quick to find me a discount on my lenses. My lenses were ready only a couple of days later too! After having a terrible experience at another eye "doctor" I was greatly relieved to find Dr. Lefland and the staff at TV. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Dr. Lefland is a genuinely nice man and I felt my exam was thoughtful, thorough and timely. I was seen quickly even as the last patient before noon (I think) and was able to pick out new glasses and be done in a little under an hour. Still haven't gotten the new glasses, but from the friend who referred me I understand they are very helpful in ensuring proper fit and responsive to any issues or problems. Our experience with this business, Dr. Lefland and his entire staff, was excellent. It could not have gone any better. The level of care was fantastic and they were very, very patient with my son who, although he is 13, was not comfortable walking in. Everything was explained to him, all of the staff showed patience and caring, and when he was picking out his new glasses it was completely stress free. My glasses came out excellent, and with this being my first time with bifocals, they explained what I could expect in clear terms along with how I could overcome the change in prescription. This place is a complete disaster!!! My husband went there for an eye exam on a Tuesday afternoon and came home with a bill for $448 for a pair of frames and lenses. While Dr. Lefland was great and personable, the desk staff were polar opposites of him. They ushered him from room to room for the exam, barely explaining anything to him about why he was going where and what would be taking place. Then they "recommended" he get progressive lenses without going over the costs to him, what was and was not covered under our insurance, or if that was financially acceptable to us. They made him pay the full amount up front even though a large sign on the wall says it's a 50% deposit at the time of order and the rest due upon receipt of the glasses. Nor was he given a receipt with a recap of the order for us to look over. Just the printout of the credit card receipt was provided. All this taking place after his eyes were dialated and he couldn't see. The people behind the desk were rude and had an "I don't give a crap about you" attitude. When we went back to discuss this and cancel the order on Thursday promptly at 9am, as they are closed on Wednesday, we were finally given a print out of the order, so we could see what was and wasn't covered by insurance. One lady behind the desk loudly chastised the woman who failed to provide the detailed receipt-very unprofessional indeed-and made sure everyone knows to print out the receipt for the client. We were also told that cancelling the order would be reported to our insurance so the benefits could still be used for this fiscal year. It is now a week later and our insurance company had to call the office and explain to them the procedure they needed to follow to insure our benefits are reinstated. That clearly wasn't a priority or a calorie they were planning on burning and had we not followed up, would never have happened. They obviously do NOT care about their clients or the retention of them, instead just happy to see someone walk through the door. We found frames and lenses for only $133 at another establishment and were treated with respect and compassion. We will continue to get our eye exams there as we only have a $10 co-pay but will NEVER entertain the idea of frames and lenses from them as their mark up is astronomical and I'm sure they get a healthy stipend for "up selling" the client when it is not necessary. They are clearly only out for the profit and nothing else. If they treated themselves the way they treated us, they wouldn't go back either. Poor customer service and they should be ashamed of themselves. We were clients of Heins Sight for 15 years and since he closed in 2016, we gave Total Vision a try. Lesson learned. read more

I was very pleased with my experience at Total Vision. The staff were all extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgable. My daughter and I went in together for appointments, and we were both seen in a very timely manner and felt well taken care of. I felt that all of the diagnostic tests done for various conditions were thorough, which is very important to me, as someone with a very strong genetic propensity for macular degeneration. Our only concern was that the vision examination for our prescriptions seemed to be done very quickly compared to other eye exams that we've had in the past. I assume they were able to ascertain all the info that they needed to upgrade our prescriptions, but that part of the exam just seemed very quick to both of us. Overall, it was a positive experience, and I would recommend this office to others. I will definitely be returning for future appointments myself. read more
