I saw Dr Pauline Leong, OD for my annual refraction. The appointment went well and she gave me a prescription for contact lenses to try. I called the next day to change the lenses as the ones she gave me were not working out. I was told that she was not going to be in till next week and the front desk would convey my message. She did not, I called the following week two more times and left messages but did not get a callback. The third time I called the following week, I was told by the front desk person that she does not call patients and that if I didn't stop calling, he would get a restraining order against me and would report me to the police. Now I am a physician and I get calls from my patients all the time. I understand that sometimes you get busy and are unable to call back in a timely fashion but to be told by the front desk that they would get a restraining order against their patient and report them to the police is beyond horrendous. I wish there were negative stars I could give this establishment. read more

I woke up with a swelled and brusing eye. I called them at 11am for an emergency visit. I was seen at 1pm and told to come back Friday. I'm very happy with this place and their understanding of the amount of pain I was in. I'm glad the pharmacy was right next door. I needed drops badly. The doctor answered all my concerns. Great job. The doctor I saw was Dr.Tisdale. I didn't feel rushed by the appointment at all. Since I switched insurances they had to call to see what my copay was. The lady at the front desk was very concerned and helpful. The good news is that when I go for my follow up they will do a annual eye check. So yay I will have new glasses too. It's about time, I haven't had a new pair since 2017. I noticed the waiting area has a lot more eyeglasses, very pleased by this. read more

I had such a good experience here. After not getting my eyes checked in years, I was super nervous to do so! We found this place that was nearby, and everyone was super helpful from start to finish, and also very friendly. I had a good experience. Huge shoutout to Dr Leong who was really thorough with her exam, and I appreciated her bedside manner. I also got glasses for the first time, and they had a huge selection of a local brand (by Dr Leong) as well as some designer brands. I opted to go local because the designs were nice and affordable, and because I live nearby and think it represents this little corner of LIC well. While picking out frames for my new glasses, Dr Leong had a staff member help me out because it was my first time (and fairly overwhelming, to be honest). The staff member suggested frames, and when I decided to get a pair of sunglasses as well, he also adjusted them so they fit well on my face. I came in to LIC Vision Associates to get pair of glasses for my son who has been squinting recently. This is probably last and only place that i'll be taking my family to get any contacts, glasses or any issues with my eyes. Dr. Pauline Leong is the most amazing optometrist I have ever met and worked amazingly with my son as it was his first time at an optometrist. She quickly ran through the tests while at the same time being extremely detailed and incredibly caring and thoughtful with all of his questions or concerns. She continued to on to help him pick out the frame that looked best on my son but also the one that he liked. She went out of her way to make sure we had everything that we needed and that the glasses process went amazingly well. If I understand correctly they have designed their own line of glasses called vernon gantry specifically designed to be a great pair of glasses that are price competitive with places like costco optical. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a die hard costco fan but for a few extra dollars and for the friendship with an optometrist i trust, I will be coming here for the forseeable future. I will be returning soon for my own glasses and my wife's! My son who is 7 years also wanted to write his own review which he wrote completely on his own(#nofilter): Lic Vision Associates was the best and I really liked Dr. Pauline Leong. I like that the store is very spacious and I also think that they have everything you need for a fun experience. For example, Dr. Leong helped see which color glasses and lenses I like and helped me find the one that fit me. The tests are simple like color vision tests, letter tests, and more. TL;DR: Quick and easy exam with Dr. Tisdale and quick service and turnaround on my glasses! I had a great experience with the staff of LIC Vision Associates. Since I live just up the street, I was able to pop in and make an appointment with Kevin, who was very professional and explained my insurance benefits and any out-of-pocket payments I would need to make during my appointment. I came in right at the start of the apocalypse (I've seen the Twilight Zone, I know I need at least 2 sets of eyeglasses to survive this thing!). The layout of the office is quite nice and spacious with a variety of brands to choose from. I was quickly seen by Dr. Tisdale, who was very professional, down-to-earth, and no-nonsense (straight to the point and quick explanations for various topics including disinfecting/cleaning glasses and other best practices). I've visited Dr.Tisdale for several years who always provided professional services, but some staff were rude and lacked basic knowledge. A staff made a mistake to delay the benefit eligibility date for contact lenses when placing a claim to my insurance provider. The staff said a correction form would be sent to the insurance company. When I called the office to confirm the progress, a new office manager said there was no mistake, and they were not going to correct it. She also said that I was not eligible for the eye exam until the delayed date. I explained to her that the eye exam date was correctly reported and the prescription has the date, and asked her for a reason. She was upset and raised her voice saying the doctor wouldn't see me until the date eligible for the contact lenses and hung up the phone. If turning customers away is their role, they've successfully done that. Dr.Tisdale deserves a better staff team. read more

After perusing through all of the raving reviews about this place, I had to give it a try due to horrible past experiences that I will happily omit from this deserving review as I'm sure we've all been through this at least once. For people that live in Manhattan and refuse to venture outside the city to find their doctors, this is exactly one stop from the city on the 7 train (vernon Jackson blvd). But that's just ONE of the many reasons why I come here for my eye exams. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the young woman who led me to the waiting area. Dr. Tisdale is amazing! I stopped by here to have my year end eye exam for glasses. Simone greeted me and showed me to the waiting area where I filled out all my paperwork. The waiting area is pretty comfy. The entire store is pretty spacious. They have a huge selection of glasses and sunglasses. Dr. Scott was great and incredibly attentive to any concerns I had regarding my prescription. I would buffer extra time - maybe an hour or more. The team was running behind a few minutes and I did have to wait on another gentlemen who priced out my glasses and lens for me. It was about a 10-15 minute wait for him as well as Dr. Scott. All and all, they were helpful and I cant wait to come by for a contact lens fitting. Everyone I've interacted with is lovely from doctors to front desk alike. I also must have a weirdly shaped head because I have always had problems with the arms of my glasses pinching above my ears and Joshua was so unbelievably patient until we finally got the shape right. This was my first experience with an eye care provider under my new insurance & at first it seemed amazing. Everyone is incredibly personable and the office is clean with a great atmosphere. Dr. Scott Tisdale is great, one of the best eye doctors I've had. He cleared up that my prescription was actually too strong, as my eyes have improved over time. My glasses had been giving me headaches for years. It's a shame that the customer service has a lot of gaps when it comes to financial accessibility. I will list all the things that went wrong for me here so others can make an informed decision for their own experience: 1. I made them aware that it was my first time trying contacts. They were aware of my insurance and its benefits. We started out with a fitting and I was provided a few contacts to try out and told that my exam would be covered. 2. I ended up paying out of pocket for the exam, because I was not shown any selection contact lenses. When I ask about the selection lenses offered by my network, I am told that they are not as good and I will get less of a supply (in hindsight, this is not at all true! i would have gotten 4 boxes where I could only afford 2 with an out of pocket fee for my non-selection choice). 3. I return to the office and they try to charge me again for the fitting fee. I have to tell them to check that I payed on the day of my first visit. On top of this, a new associate actually explains the difference between selection and non-selection lenses to me. Frustrated that I have already spent a month trying non-selection lenses and have already paid for a non-selection fitting, I move forward with the box of lenses I already chose. I had events coming up and I wanted to be able to see without my glasses. 4. Before leaving, I ask if they can provide me the list of non-selection lenses offered by my provider. The associate begins to look it up and then informs me that she cannot provide this to me & I have to call my insurance company. 5. With the hassle of calling and already having purchased a set of lenses, I only ended up calling today to review my options for refills. Hence this long review. My insurance provider informed me that the doctor's office is actually liable to tell me my options. They shouldn't create these bottlenecks in the process. I feel wronged, that an advantage was taken here because I am young and it was my first time trying contacts. Unfortunately, I appreciate Dr. Tisdale for his help. However, I won't be returning to this provider. As a young black professional, I expect to be respected and assisted by my healthcare professionals. Especially considering so many POC worked in that office - I feel really disadvantaged by how everything went down. I paid over $200 throughout that experience. In reality, I should have left without paying anything and with a larger supply of lenses that wouldn't have run out for me until my insurance covered another refill. Overall, I am disappointed. I think the major issue here is financial accessibility. If you don't have to worry about money, then nothing that happened to me would affect your experience. Unfortunately, I see other buried reviews where similar things happened (I'm guessing to people somewhat like me). read more

Had my eye doctor apt here in December and couldn't be happier with my experience. This was the first eye doctor that took the time to do a throughout exam and actually fine tuned my prescription more than anyone ever has. Turns out, I had a slight astigmatism in my eye which is why my old glasses from other places always felt a bit off. Dr. Scott Tisdale was great and helped my navigate their large select of glasses within my budget. I ended up going with a pair from OptimEyes own line, Vernon-Gantry, and they are great! I get tons of compliments on them as the styles are similar to other hip brands (Warby Parker). Also, you can't beat the warranty they offer as well as I am clumsy and felt great about buying a pair of glasses from them. Honestly, I've had ups and downs with this optical shop but their products and customer service have vastly improved over the past year and I want to give credit where it is due. We shop there for children's glasses and lenses since they are so close to our apartment and they haven't always been helpful in determining sizing and fit but they have begun to go the extra mile to understand how to properly fit children's glasses and I really like their Vernon Gantry line for kids. My son recently damaged a pair at school and, because it's their own brand, we were able to switch out his lenses to new frames within 15 minutes. Where do I start? This place is gorgeous! There is so much open space and the selection of frames and sunglasses is huge! Did I mention that there is a chandalier in the store? That's something even my grandparents' house doesn't have! Let's get to the meat and potatoes: the service! The receptionist greeted me with a warm smile as I stepped through the door. The chime was slightly annoying, but I suppose it's necessary. I told her what I needed, along with my price range, and was wisked off (in a good and non-pushy way) by the sales person to see the frames that were in my price range. I was satisfied with the price and made my selection, and was brought to Dr. Shetty for my examination. He asked if I was in a hurry, which I wasn't, so took his timr to thoroughly examine my eyes. And the best part? Even though the suit he wore exuded professionalism, we had a nice chat and he even made a few jokes! Professional and personable! How great is that?! My main gripe about this place is the pens they have for filling out the forms! But then again, when the main complaint I have about the business I have in the type of pens they have, the place is doing something amazing! Almost forgot, they also have free wifi, snacks, and drinks! When you're waiting a few minutes sitting on a leather sofa, watching a 65" TV with snacks and juice, you don't even notice imthe wait at all! And did I mention the chandalier? Excellent service from the time I walked in. I haven't had an eye exam for over a year and broke my last pair of glasses. In the past, finding a new optimologists has been difficult. There team is very helpful going through frames. I actually had two different frames and one was twice as expensive as the other and they actually told me the least expensive one look better on me. I was very happy with the selection of glasses. I search for frames as I waited for my eye exam, behind another customer with an appointment. The wait wasn't long and Scott was very professional and felt confident after today's exam will produce kick but new pair of glasses. In addition, I used my Maui Jim's and replaced the lenses with prescription tinted ones. The prices were very fair and service was excellent. I already had a prescription but went to try on glasses/sunglasses & the whole process was easy as everyone was helpful and friendly! There are so many trendy and unique brands here and normally I feel overwhelmed when left alone to try on lots of different frames but when I gave a vague description of what I was looking for, the guy picked out a few frames for me and I loved all of them! It was so hard to choose but eventually I settled on a frame. They have DITA sunglasses there too which are awesome. I love it when the opticians know what frames to pick out for your face & prescription instead of offering random frames to try on. They definitely know what they are doing here. Also, the atmosphere of the place itself is awesome! It's a large open area with sections of sky lighting. The waiting area has a nice TV & comfy couches with free water, coffee, etc so I didn't feel stressed at all when my friend waited for me to try on the glasses. The store itself is beautiful; between the leather couches, guitar, soft music, exposed brickwork and a small coffee-making area, it is easy to forget that you're actually at OptimEyes for an optometrist appointment. The staff are all very friendly and approachable. There is a wide range of glasses in store - every budget and style is covered with the frames that they stock. I've been wearing glasses for 20+ years and I was really pleased to find a place like this. My appointment was with Dr. Shetty, who was happy to see me as a walk-in patient without any problem. The exam was swift and thorough - Dr. Shetty knows what he's doing. After my appointment, I asked him about some vision problems that I've been having and he advised me accordingly, with more knowledge than other optometrists I have consulted with about the same problem. Dr. Shetty gave me some recommendations for the type of frame that would be best for my high prescription, and then passed me on to capable hands of Dave, the optician, who spent some (a lot) of time with me helping me pick the right frame. I'm picky and I changed my mind 50,000 times but Dave was patient and helpful throughout and I enjoyed just chatting to him while I picked my frames. I particularly liked that no one there pushes you to buy the higher-end frames; if it doesn't suit you, they will be honest about that. This whole team makes going to the optometrist an experience in and of itself, which I've never felt before. You can see that other patients feel this too, by way that everyone comes in and has a casual catch up with the team before their appointment. All I can do is echo most of the reviews of LIC Vision. I'd been going to a place in Midtown for years, but a very good friend of mine recommended LIC Vision and so since my prescription had expired I decided to give them a try. I have to admit, the fact that they were only a six-block walk from my apartment (instead of having to go to Midtown to my previous optometrist) was a factor...I always like 'shopping local'. The staff was MORE than helpful and Dr. Shetty impressed me to no end with his knowledge and attitude. He even saved me a chunk of money by finding increased coverage on my VSP plan for contacts that my previous guy never told me about. I cannot recommend them highly enough! read more

I'm so happy I found this place. I don't wear contacts or have glasses so am unfamiliar with eye doctors. Last week, something blew into my eye and I was in pain for a few days - finally decided it was time to see someone about it. I remembered seeing them handing out cards by the subway so gave them a call. I was able to get a same day appointment and was assured they could take my medical insurance. When I arrived, everyone was very friendly and the space is very modern and welcoming. I saw the doctor within minutes and left with a script for eye drops. I went back the next day for a check in and also about a week later for a final check. Each time I visited I had a great experience - the staff remembered me and chatted with me while I waited. There's also some pastries and drinks on weekend mornings, which is a nice touch. I will recommend them to all my friends in the area. Only sad that I don't see an eye doctor regularly so I won't be going back soon. They do have a great selection of sunglasses, so maybe I can find an excuse to stop in! read more

Let me start with the good. Dr. Scott Tisdale was great. Thorough and professional. I felt like I got a very good exam. When I came in I told them I only wanted an eye exam. So after finishing with the exam I went to the receptionist counter and asked for my prescription. I was told I needed to speak with Dave first and the he needed to go over my prescription. Dave turned out to be the optometry version of a used cars salesman. He asked what kind of glasses/lenses I wanted and I told him I just needed the prescription. He insisted on pricing lenses. I was quoted 286.00 with my insurance for progressives. My wife paid around 160 for hers last year so I knew this was a RIP-OFF! I went to Greenpoint Eye Care and gave them my insurance info. They informed me that OptimEyes Vision put a hold on my insurance for materials. WTF! After 20 minutes on the phone Greenpoint Eye care was able to get it released and was quoted 170 for the lenses. I told them about the 286 quote and she said with the most expensive lense option (that I didn't need) and the most expensive coating (I didn't ask for) was 286.00 WHAT A SCAM! Avoid Dave at all cost. Once again highly recommend Dr. Tisdale. read more

At best I got a mediocre prescription. Picking out glasses was a chore without any sort of guidance. Offering a 50% discount on your frames makes me think you overcharge for other brands. No sizing or adjustments offered when I picked up new glasses. Overall I was just disappointed with my experience here. read more
