First-time experience so I was definitely paranoid and scared, we were told by family members that they had it so we got checked as a precaution. I almost gave 4 stars because the day I was trying to get appointment it took me 3-4 hours to hear back and get a confirmed time, but they were able to get us on Wednesday night to get checked and said we'd have to do treatment the next morning if they found any. A few years back, we used Lice Doctors with great success to treat the family. No chemicals, but a slow tried and true method of smothering the lice with olive oil over a period of a couple of weeks. It's a pain in the butt, fairly expensive to have a professional come out to the house and treat/train the family, but no harmful chemicals and keeps attacking the lice by removing their oxygen supply until their life cycle is broken. Fast forward to December 2016. We suspected that our older daughter was infected with lice. We had a strong family referral to Lice Clinics of America and a family trip approaching in a very short time...two strikes against the slow olive oil method. LCA is a much sexier choice; advertised as a one time treatment with a success rate claimed as 99.8%. The staff seems compassionate and knowledgeable and we went for it. Treatment was relatively fast, and when we got home, we followed additional instructions on changing sheets, cleaning furniture and car seats, making sure girls wear their hair in ponytail religiously. Our older daughter never stopped complaining of itchiness, but due to the confidence of the LCA staff plus multiple potential causes of itchiness, we gave it some time, trusting in the treatment method. Just outside of 4 weeks out, she complained about a seeing a bug . We took her back in, they re-checked her and she was still infected. There is a guarantee on the treatment...a 30 day guarantee folks. They would not do a free treatment outside of the window...fine, its America and its not my business. However, a bug takes 2-3 weeks to hatch, so that means she was never clear. As a concession, the owner offered half price to redo the family. Not unreasonable to a small business owner who has to pay the bills, but short-sighted in my opinion due to the above mentioned fact. As a middle class family that spent over $500 for a treatment that didn't work, it was a big fat no brainer not to spend another $300 for a treatment that didn't work the first time. In retrospect, I believe there is more risk to a single shot method effectiveness because it is based on a single human inspection versus treatment over several days with an inspection each day plus a couple of weeks of cutting off the oxygen supply for several hours at a time. I noticed my 4 year old scratching her head before preschool. Upon further inspection, to my horror, I found lice. Took my 10 year old to this clinic Tuesday Dec 20 for Lice treatment after getting a call from school. I paid to have her treated, they checked my hair, purchased 2 products for $230.00.
