Let me preface this by saying that the week and a half we dealt with lice was one of the worst…read moretimes of my life. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I couldn't eat, sleep, or relax for days. Chances are, if you're reading this, you are dealing with it as well. Calm down...you'll get through it! I would give Licedoctors 10 stars for customer service. After buying every OTC lice remedy available and combing through my kids' hair for tens of hours, I made an online inquiry to Licedoctors. Someone called me within minutes to schedule an appointment. I spoke with someone twice before our appointment, and they put me at ease. Our technician was Kris. She was so amazing! She has a great personality, and the kids loved her. She even left me with her cell number, which allowed me to text her with questions. I also emailed back and forth with Wendy after our procedure because when it comes to bugs in my kids' hair, well, call me paranoid! Now for the procedure and aftercare...this is where it loses stars. I decided to call a professional company into my home for a hefty price because I was DONE and wanted the nasty bugs GONE FAST. The website is a little unclear as to the procedure and aftercare. Basically they come to your house, saturate your hair with olive oil, and manually come through it with an effective lice comb. You lather with Dawn and rinse, then they search through each strand with a high powered light and a magnifying glass. In order for their guarantee, every member of the household must be checked. They charge $175 for the first hour, then $100/hr after that (in 15 min increments). Luckily my husband was at work (and bald), so he got a pass. Total price for my 2 children and me? $400. Here's the kicker, though...it's not like you pay that money and you're done. You have to saturate everyone's hair with olive oil and comb through every strand NIGHTLY for a week, then every other night for the second and third week. So imagine doing that times the number of people in your home, then waking up hours early for school to wash and dry everyone's hair (with Dawn). I wasn't excited about it, but I just dropped $400, so I purchased the recommended nit comb, an industrial sized bottle of olive oil and got to combing. I was very thorough, but on day 4, I found tiny, moving bugs on the paper towel from my daughter's hair! I finally gave up and called the kids' pediatrician, which is what I should have done in the first place. I paid $25 for prescription Sklice (which kills lice and their eggs), and that was all she wrote. It got rid of everything. I'm pretty sure I'm scarred for life after lice because I comb through the kids' hair 4 times a week with a flashlight and a magnifying glass, but hopefully we'll never have to deal with lice again. And if it happens to you, skip the OTC garbage and the expensive companies and just call the pediatrician.

Uhhh... I want to…read moreclarify two things. 1) It's not very often that I think about homeschooling my kids. Overall, I think it would be an awful idea. Lice exposure made me rethink that. 2) My kids don't have lice. I'm not judging people who do. Maybe our time will still arrive. But right now, we're good! After my daughter was exposed at her small-group preschool, I was alerted by her teacher that we needed to have her examined at Lice Busters. To be completely honest, I didn't even know this place existed, but why would I? I gave them a call and the woman I spoke with was so friendly. She offered to have us join the same-day waitlist, but we opted to make an appointment for the next morning. I was instructed to bring my daughter in with clean, combed hair. We arrived for our appointment and I was blown away by how professional and kind the staff was. The place was super clean, which felt surprising for some reason (I mean, lice!) and the stations were very spread out, which was reassuring. Susie was so wonderful with my daughter, and chatted with her while combing out her hair with her special tools. Luckily, there were no lice, and after about ten minutes of combing my little one got to pick out a lollipop and something from the treasure box. I paid $25 and left with total peace of mind! I do hope I never have another reason to visit, but I'm relieved Lice Busters is around if I do.
