There are now enough lice service shops in Seattle and their surrounding areas that I'm happy to say I'll never frequent Lice Knowing You again. Like many of the other reviews, we found the scheduling atrocious, their customer service utterly lacking and the overall experience horrible. Having now gone to another service in Edmonds (further away, but mmuuucccchhh better experience), it's obvious that kids don't need to cry and scream when getting their heads checked or treated, that I CAN be in the service area with my children and the technicians don't have to be assholes. I know gross, right? But hey, let's get real. After all, this is one of those things kids get, and as a parent, like a many things that come up along the way, you gotta deal. Last year we got the dreaded letter home from school just 24 hours before a long-awaited family trip overseas --someone in my kid's class had lice. Ugh. Sometimes life has a sick sense of humor. Quickly, I was able to schedule a $10 check in for and received a best case scenario outcome--all clear! Nothing. Just a dry scalp and a case of the worries. Whew! I had piece of mind and the whole thing was quick and easy. They were not trying to sell services or products we didn't need. The people doing the work in the Wallingford location were professional. We went again recently after a camp breakout, and got the all clear. Both times a good experience at their offices.( While I've read that treatment is expensive, hey, I'd pay a lot for someone else to do this. Seems fair.) The one strong caveat I have though is that unfortunately the people I spoke to recently on the phone (on more than one occasion) lacked customer service skills. Maybe their organization skills make them good schedulers, I can't say, but as the front-facing aspect of the business, their lack of friendliness, warmth or helpfulness was a real disappointment. It was a curt, brusque experience, as I found myself pretty much bullied on one call. Its certainly not the way to talk to worried parents. It was a lost customer service opportunity, but even more than that, it was one of the more icky phone experiences, with the worst energy, I can recall having in a long time with a service provider. Try not to let that scare you off, as the actual service they provide to families is a good one. Hopefully, they can work hiring schedulers who provide a better customer service experience, which would go a long way towards creating a better overall impression of their business. Ultimately, this health service is a good one for parental peace of mind, and the staff providing the actual service (but not those on the phone, sadly) are real pros. read more

So you found lice in your hair or in your child's hair, didn't you? Don't freak out! It's going to be okay- I promise. I feel qualified to tell you this because I nearly poo'd a brick when I found a crawling lice in my Princess' long beautiful hair. I mean for realsies- this girl does not like to be dirty and she takes baths numerous times a week. Guess what? Lice love clean hair. Gross, right? So Saturday night I found lice and promptly called the consulting nurse at her doctor's office. The nurse told me to use the Nuvo Method. It looked great but we did it on our whole family and it was SUCH a pain. The method requires a lot of detangling long hair with 16 ounces of Cetaphil rubbed into it and my husband- bless him- knows nothing about detangling long hair so I ended up losing a lot of hair because it was in literal knots. I don't have much to begin with so I literally sobbed. Had I known how truly easy this place is, I would have not done the Cetaphil method AT ALL. I called the number, although it was a Sunday and I knew there was a 0% chance they were open and as I was listening to the voicemail message I had a call waiting notification and it was Lice Knowing You (LKY) calling me back! I called them numerous times for numerous reasons throughout the day. Let me give you some of my questions and their answers. Is treatment safe during breastfeeding? YES. How quick is the appointment turn-around time? Same day or next day. If I book only one treatment but need more than one can you fit me in? Most likely- yes. When I first walked in I felt panicked because there was another family there and I didn't want that mom thinking I didn't clean my kids. Then I realized the other mom was in the same situation as me and calmed the frick down. The other mom was super cool- just like me! I liked her. My daughter was the infected one so they put some oils in her hair right away. They did my check within a few minutes and checked my infant son's as well. We were both lice-free so we sat down and reveled in it for a minute. The woman who did our hair showed me the Keurig. I had enough coffee that day but I can't turn down free Keurig so I partooketh. After the oils sat in my daughter's hair they started to comb through it. And through it. And through it. And through it. When I saw how detailed they were being I knew that they weren't going to miss anything. The whole process took about an hour but it was no thang because there was a flat screen tv playing cartoons. And a Keurig. When the first lady was done, the second lady did a "double check" to make sure there was nothing left. In the end I paid $198. Let me tell you what I got. +4 head checks and 1 treatment. +A bottle of shampoo, conditioner and a comb. +Gratuity that I added in lieu of kissing both of them. It was SO easy. PROS: +They did NOT try to upsell me on any of their products. If you're an 80s child like me and believe you have to bag up the kid's whole room, hold onto your hats because you're wrong and they will tell you why. CONS: -Expensive. KEEP READING. I didn't have to buy the products I bought. Or tip. It was still cheaper than dumping insecticides (three times or more) and much better. Had I not done all of the aforementioned the total would have been $118. That said- please tip for great service! I wish I had never tried the Nuvo method on my already thin hair. Please note that the 4400 block of Woodland Ave N is split in half by N Allen Place. It is just south of N Allen Place. Initially I thought I was in the wrong place because I went to the end of the 4400 block with no avail but there are TWO 4400 blocks. The school notified me that my kids could have lice , and so I did my research on which businesses was the best. Lice Knowing You has been in the business of removing lice for years! Made a appointment for a Thursday at 3:00PM through text. I'm usually a busy person so the fact that they can make an appointment through text is good. Went up there and was greeted nicely. They quickly took me and my kids to get check. We all ended up having it so I was worried if we would have to reschedule since I only asked for a check. They quickly got us in for 3 treatments. The technician were all young to my surprise! Had a fun conversation with Aden and Kevin about college and lice , while being comb. One my kids were crying so they gave him a lollipop. We didn't have a very good experience. The person who treated my 5 year old daughter was quite rough. She was crying, then sobbing, and at the end I saw that the moles that she has on her head were bleeding. When I spoke up with my concerns the person treating her said that, "most kids cry because it hurts." They charge by the hour and my hair is considerably longer and thicker than my daughter's so it was frustrating that my daughters' treatment took longer than mine. They have a TV to watch while getting treatment. It was on The Food Network, when I asked if they could put a kids show on they said that they don't have the remote. My last complaint is that my son was checked and cleared for lice so only my daughter and I needed treatment, but as soon as we got home I peeked at my sons hair and immediately saw a live louse. Unbelievable, I called many times in one day and finally someone sends me a text asking me a few questions. All I wanted was to buy one of their nit comb removers since I heard they were much better than the store bought ones and worth the money. The location we wanted to go to since it was close to home was closed even though the hours said 6pm. When I said this to the person texting me they didn't respond for 40 minutes when I finally asked again what location is open that I can go buy a comb no response except it's by appointment only. Finally I called the number again and got a hold of some lady who was so dumb and didn't know anything. I actually thought I had the wrong number. Finally found the Seattle location was open until 5:15pm even though they say 6 pm as well. We finally get there and nobody was at the counter since they were finishing people's hair. Instead of ringing us up to pay for the $16.50 comb she had to finish with the lady who walked up and spent another 30 minutes with her. As we waited I finally DID receive a phone call to be told I made a mistake in booking a "check" vs. a "treatment" and I had created the confusion, which the woman repeated three times. I made an appointment for my kids (the person on the phone seemed annoyed I called and was not very friendly) and when we showed up at the scheduled time, no one was there. We called/emailed from the door and it just went to voicemail. Then I received awkward texts and ultimately the person said our appointment was not shown on the schedule. Unfortunately, I've DESPERATELY needed the high quality services provided at this location. My 4 yr old (who has hair past her behind) had lice. The staff treated 3 out of 4 members of my family. A friend in Portland area told me about LKY after I discovered my child's big curly head of hair was INFESTED with lice. They were full sized and everything. I was freaked out and then became despondent because I'd heard so many nightmarish tales of months on end of dealing with these bugs. They took me as a walk-in at the end of a busy day which I appreciated. The place smells like, what else, lice shampoo. But if you have lice, it's really a haven and the place you want to go. A TV was on to distract me while the lice lady got to work. They did the job and I was out of there and lice free after 40 minutes. It came out to $80. I had a very bad experience going here. I got called in because my son had lice. A particular staff member was extremely rude and seemed to make it a point that I wait as long as possible to get checked. It was also a very uncomfortable and chaotic environment. I was so impressed with their customer service. I was freaking out with the idea of possibly having lice. Working with kids makes it more so likely of getting lice. It was 4:30pm on a Friday when I picked up my child from daycare and noticed lice in her hair. Daycare recommended we call Lice Knowing You and I'm so glad we did. They were able to fit us in before closing for the day and I was so grateful. They were great with my 13 month old and I was so relieved that they were able to get it all and check me too! My daughter is 3.5 years and was very unhappy (not crying, but visibly uncomfortable) if they could set the TV to cartoon it would have helped dramatically. They are nothing but money hungry. They say they have a 30 day guarantee, but they forget to mention you have to keep paying for them each time they check your hair. If it was possible to do no stars I would. My daughter and I went here to get our hair done. The service then was good and they were nice. We drove an hour and spent $200 to do both of our hair. Went to go back and try to squeeze on for the FREE check up. We scheduled an appointment for 10:45 and arrived at 10:50. I understand we were late (due to crazy Seattle traffic) but when we got here the gap said she couldn't see us anymore and needed to move on because we were late.... I told her that I would wait if I had to (but of course I wasn't happy) and she told me if I waited I would have to pay 15$ for each of us because it's a different time frame that ISNT free for a check up after 11pm! TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS IF YOU PLAN ON SPENDING SOME SERIOUS COIN ON THIS PLACE. I have never left a Yelp review. In fact, I just created a new account and then downloaded the app specifically to post this review. And today, I have time. After finding lice in my daughter's and niece's hair couple days ago, I knew who to call. Although I dreaded their high prices, I love the convenience and how well they treat this problem. However, this time around, I couldn't even get past scheduling an appointment because of the terrible communication "skills" I dealt with. Immediately after discovering lice in my girls' hair, I called LKY. Called a few times on July 3rd during normal business hours. No answer, which was a little frustrating. So I left a voicemail message. A while later, I received a text from a different number. The technician stated she was with a client (which was understandable) but went on to ask me several questions, all of which I answered very promptly. Again, this was all during normal business hours. I told her I needed to schedule two hair treatments and one hair check ASAP. I asked if we could confirm a day and time. But I didn't hear from her until a few hours later. She said sorry, she was driving. Really? Why not get back to me after finishing up with your customer? Anyway, she offered me a time slot for that Thursday, first thing in the morning, as the next day (Wednesday) was July Fourth. I told her I'll take it. I asked her to confirm the time slot. No response. Next day was July Fourth, so, of course, I realize it's a holiday. But I needed to get my girls' hair treated ASAP, and I needed to confirm so I could figure something out if LKY couldn't treat my girls soon. I waited until evening time to ask once more for a confirmation. Still no answer. Early Thursday morning, I asked if someone would be getting back to me ASAP as I did not want to waste my time or gas driving down to their Seattle location for nothing (I live 45 minutes away, with no traffic). Half an hour later, I get a reply offering a 10 am slot. She then asks me a series of questions. I answer them right away. Then I ask how much they charge (it's been years since my family has been treated at LKY, I wasn't sure if their rates changed). After she answers, I asked her to give me an hour at the longest to discuss this with my husband as we were not expecting to pay so much for only two hair treatments. We decided to make the appointment. I asked her to confirm it. An hour later, she texts me back. By this point, I was already frustrated and had lost my patience. This business supposedly serves families. So the owner should understand and realize that families have busy lives, and can't be waiting around for texts all day. I texted her back never mind, and that we decided not to use their services. And then I asked if there was a reason why she texts instead of talking over the phone. All of our back and forth texting was unnecessary, and all questions could've been answered and appointments could've been confirmed through a brief phone conversation. Such a waste of time! She then texts (rather quickly, this time--wish she was this prompt before) that yesterday was a holiday, and that I should call during normal business hours and not during a holiday. What?! So I state that there is no excuse, and couldn't believe how unapologetic she was, AND that I called on Tuesday during normal business hours, and that day was not a holiday! I reminded her about how prompt I was when responding to her questions, and that she should learn to do the same, especially if she's trying to run a business! Had she taken care of this on Tuesday, THE DAY I CALLED, I wouldn't need to keep texting her to confirm our appointment. I also told her she just lost out on $400 worth of services and products. She then texts me that they were closed yesterday (July Fourth), and they were closed right now as she was texting me on her own personal time. So (told you, I have time) I quickly reminded her AGAIN that she wouldn't need to be texting me during her personal time had she taken care of this on Tuesday--BEFORE the holiday. Finally, I texted her that I've successfully treated lice problems before without using services like hers, but because we used LKY twice and because of their convenience, we wanted to go where we've been before. But I've never received horrible customer communication from LKY until now. I've always recommended LKY to family and friends, but now I'll have to inform them of their awesome communication "skills." What a joke! If I could give a no star-rating, I would. Go spend your money elsewhere, where the staff is sensitive and understanding to a family's needs, the scheduling process isn't annoying, and where you'll actually get to talk to someone over the phone instead of receiving passive-aggressive texts, messaging back and forth unnecessarily while you wait forever to get a response. Despite calling first thing in the morning and requesting a same day appointment, they seemed to enjoy offering me an 'Emergency rate' (much more $) for an appointment that would be after 5 pm that day. I said OK but what did they have for the next day? 'Well our last appointment slot for tomorrow is 11 am. That work for you?' 'Hmm, not really,' I said, explaining that I worked till 4 pm and could they do a late afternoon spot? 'Well, maybe if you call around midday.... we can let you know. We don't like to schedule too far out...' 'But I'm calling for tomorrow and when I called today (in the morning) you were booked up and could only offer me an 'emergency' spot. I'm kinda trying to avoid that.....' 'Now look, we we're not a retail service.... we can't have technicians just waiting around in the hopes that people will show up...' 'Hmmm, you got me there.
