I was honestly really nervous going in after reading some of the negative reviews, but I am so glad we decided to come here. From start to finish, the experience was incredible. Our family of four was confirmed to have lice, and understandably we were stressed. I also work in the hair industry, so I'm very familiar with hair, scalp care, and how easy it is to miss things -- which made me even more appreciative of how thorough and professional they were. Yes, it is expensive -- but it was absolutely worth it for the level of care and peace of mind we received. They took their time, were incredibly detailed, and made sure nothing was missed. Everyone was beyond kind and patient, especially with my girls. They chatted with them the whole time, kept things light, and explained what they were doing in a calm, non-scary way. My youngest daughter has a very tender scalp and asked to take a break halfway through, and they were completely understanding and accommodating -- no rushing at all. They were also very informative and reassuring throughout the process. On top of everything, they got us in first thing the next morning after I texted them past midnight, which meant so much during a stressful situation. This appears to be a pattern. Potential customers should look elsewhere. My family had an extremely upsetting experience here. What should have been straightforward service ended with manager Claudia yelling profanities at my family, making false accusations, physically pushing my wife, and calling police. We left feeling misled, overcharged, and traumatized. Undisclosed Fees and Deceptive Billing 20% Service Fee: Mandatory fee added to entire bill. Customers sign acknowledgement upon arrival, but it's not disclosed on their website or office beforehand. For stressed families who've taken off work and pulled kids from school, this feels exploitative. Deceptive Billing: Website and forms state billing in 15-minute increments. Reality? Every time was rounded up to the nearest half hour. Staff verbally announced actual times (my daughter: 3hrs 45min, me: 1hr 15min), but the receipt showed rounded charges (4hrs, 1.5hrs). At $150/hour, these "rounding errors" added significant cost, directly contradicting their written policy. Hidden Follow-up Charges: They advertise a 30-day lice-free guarantee requiring a follow-up appointment after 5 days. After paying $150/hour for treatment, the follow-up seemed included. When we asked Claudia about this, she angrily stated she "is the office manager and doesn't do treatments or checks" and berated Alexa in front of us. Later learned Claudia had performed treatments on other families from our preschool. Important note: The treatment staff--particularly Alexa--were excellent. Thorough, professional, kind to our children, clearly skilled. Alexa was patient, communicative, went above and beyond. Staff doing actual lice removal deserve 5 stars. Unfortunately, manager's aggressive behavior and deceptive business practices overshadowed their good work entirely. Summary Between undisclosed fees, manipulative pricing, poor management, and the manager's unprofessional and aggressive behavior: AVOID this business if you care about your experience, time, and money. Having lice is an awful experience. Going to "Lice Knowing You" on Mercer Island made the whole experience exponentially more awful. Do yourself a favor and go to another clinic! I have never before been treated so poorly in a professional environment. I wish I'd read the reviews earlier, or seen that this business has an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau, as this seems to be business as usual for this manager/ practice. In fact, as we walked in the manager was having an argument with her previous client who was checking out. I wish I had walked out the door right then and there. And yes, the pricing is a scam and misleading. Yes, she'll tell you the hourly rate up front. But no, she won't tell you that she will take 2-3 times longer to complete the work than what is industry standard or what is listed on their website. I was charged $2900 for lice removal for me and my 2 children. I'm happy to pay prices that are fair and reasonable. But $3k? That's just outrageous and unconscionable. I let the manager know the pricing was misleading and that paying $3,000 for 3 lice removal services was absurd. The manager started explaining to me that it's expensive when she takes her animals to the vet, and then wanted to talk to me about her expensive veterinary costs. I was not interested in continuing the dialogue as it was not helpful. So I paid, but let her know it was outrageous and that I did not appreciate being overcharged nor her lack of professionalism. The manager became hostile, and despite the fact that we had paid, followed me outside and continued yelling at me. This is supposedly a professional business manager, who followed a mom with her two children out to their car while screaming at them. The behavior was aggressive and unhinged. Most significantly, however, was the manager's treatment of my 10 year old child. At one point she was working with my child in a separate room. When I finished my treatment, I went to find my child and was surprised to find the door closed to the room where the manager was working alone with my child. I attempted to open the door and found it locked. I had to knock on the door and demand to be let in. Once inside, I found my child was clearly distraught and in tears. I would have expected a clinician to have gotten a parent when a child was in distress. I was shocked that the manager thought any of this was okay, including locking herself into a treatment room alone with my child. The manager later told me she closed the door because her puppy needed it, and accused me of not being sympathetic to the puppy's needs. I remain shocked that the manager finds it appropriate to put a puppy's needs above that of a child's. Additionally, the puppy could not have unlocked the door. There is simply no reason whatsoever for an adult who is a stranger to my child to be in a room with the door closed, let alone locked. The whole situation and lack of judgment is incredibly troubling. As a final note, for a clinic that provides a health service, I was surprised that the manager allowed her dog access to treatment rooms and the clients. At one point, I had a rain soaked dog jumping up on me. Other times, the dog nipped at the kids. At no point did the manager make any attempt to prevent any of this, nor did she even acknowledge it was occurring. Finally, the dog urinated next to me in the treatment room at which point the manager just covered the mess with paper towels and continued with her work. It was all unprofessional and unhygienic. All in all, the whole experience, from the improper overcharging to the unnecessary and over the top aggressiveness, was something I have never before experienced and hope to never experience again. I paid the bill for a family member who went in for lice removal and didn't have the money to cover the cost of her visit. First of all, she had no complaints about the technician and was assured she walked out lice-free. But, I paid the bill and I have issues with the charges. There is an automatic 20% "service fee" ON TOP OF the standard fee for services which is $150 an hour. This hourly rate is open-ended and the customer has no control over the final fee - in this case $337 for my long-haired girl. A 5-star-rated competitor in the area charges a flat fee, which I feel better protects the consumer. Also, Lice Knowing You charged a $20 check-up fee in advance of the visit. There was 20% tacked on top of that too. What health care provider charges you for a visit you haven't had yet? If the 20% extra "service fee" is meant to be a gratuity, then it should be on a tip screen. If it's automatic (in my case $72), it should be disclosed on the website. I've read the reviews, which have several glowing comments about the kindness and care offered by this company. Nice to see, but I would go elsewhere. People are in distress when they have lice. Read the fine print ,people, before you sign anything. read more

Service was extremely slow. Appointment was at 2 for my 2 girls. And we're still here at 7:23pm. My daughter and I got the oil in our quickly after arriving, but the wait time for the first comb out took an hour or a little longer. Once my daughters were called in, the process for the first comb out took at least 2 hrs long. My daughters do indeed have average length hair to the middle of their backs and their hair is semi thick. So 2 hrs sounded reasonable for the amount of lice they had in their hair. One of the technicians also cut open a beauty mark on my youngest kid's head to where it started bleeding. My poor kid came out crying and upset while telling me about it. Did the technician apologize? NO. At this point my husband, myself and my 2 kids grew hungry so my husband bought us pizza and we ate in the waiting room while waiting another 30 minutes to be called for a 2nd check up. So before my youngest child went in, I informed the technician about the incident regarding her beauty mark and the technician's response was "Well It took 30 minutes for my youngest child while my other kid an hour. The service there is TERRIBLE & I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. read more

The team was very flexible as we did not want to wait any longer after realizing we had lice. The staff and office were super accommodating for my kids as there were toys, books, open space and cartoons available. We took breaks often for snacks and general relief from the combing/detangling process. The service overall took a while, but we were notably only charged for the time that our hair was being actively worked on. I feel that it is fair that the employees are permitted to have their breaks and lunches. Also, keep in mind that hair type and length have an impact on the length of time for services. Cost was $120/hour + 20% service/gratuity fee Overall, I am satisfied with the services we have received. I hope we don't need these services again! I share custody of my sons with my ex who took them to a different service provider last week. We came into get a check here yesterday out of an abundance of caution before then we back to their mom's place because the other people in my household came in for removal last Friday and the check was necessary to maintain the guarantee. Well, thank god we did because within a couple of minutes of starting the check on my boys, Jayson immediately found eggs in both of their hair! This was unexpected and disappointing but I said go ahead and get started because it was necessary to get rid of them. Jayson started diligently working on the hair of one of my boys which ended up taking 4.5 hours due to the thickness of the hair. He took each section and diligently combed through every part before moving on. It was the most tedious process that I've ever seen but he did it calmly and helped my son remain calm in turn. He showed me what he guesstimated to be thousands of eggs which had been there for a while, showing that the other service hadn't done much at all. Reid worked on my youngest son's hair after about hour 3 which only took about 1.5 hours and diligently combed through to get 100% lice removal. Then Claudia came in to check both heads to double check the work and ensure it was completed properly. She was empathetic to the frustration of needing to do it again and even made time to bring in my ex-wife to check and treat her as we transitioned households because she felt compelled to ensure that the boys weren't re-infested. It was the best customer service experience that I hope to never have again because lice are the worst but if you need to do it then come here, bring devices for the wait and accept the fact that it is worth it to end the nuisance of the horrible pest! read more

She was very unkind, made racial slurs (I am white and she was not), and told me she knew my kind in a very distasteful way. This business is servicing the wealthy population on Mercer island and clearly has disdain for those who are making their business successful. It takes time, but I would not go here. After a friend's recommendation (albeit in another state) and doctor's suggestion, I decided to give this place a try. I tried calling and was advised to email in the message. I texted the number that previously messaged me when I asked a couple of weeks ago. The texting person wasn't responding timely and the email person called as soon as I sent my number. I arrived at the clinic and they sprayed my teen's hair and covered it. Then they said they could check my head and began combing so rough it hurt and I said as much. She didn't seemed moved and continued and I said "That hurts, can you please comb from the bottom up?" And she did, much to my relief. I signed this paper stating the guarantee, how the staff should be treated like stylists for their efforts in treatment, etc. The lady that called me informed me my check would be free for the hassle of booking and communication delays. I thanked her and she left as another young lady entered and made her way to the back. All this time my daughter is capped sitting next to me with no one addressing her hair after tying it up. Lo and behold, the girl doing her hair is the one who just arrived, 20 min after we've been here. I checked in on her and she seemed okay, so I waited another 20 and checked again. The woman was straight ripping my child's hair out. Combing from top to middle, where it's all knotted in one place now, and then turns the comb vertical and starts ripping it down the knots!! I said you should work from the bottom up, the knots don't come out like that. She said "Oh she just has thick hair, this is how it is." I asked my daughter if she was ok, and her eyes welled and she started crying. I said "You're hurting her!" She said "She's doing much better than lots of other patients, this is just part of it." I said I'll comb her hair myself, she's in pain. She said ok and left the room. After I combed out the area myself, very easily taking into account her fine hair, she returned and thanked me for combing. I said I'll happily comb it myself, I'm not okay ripping her hair out, and left the room. After another half hour, another woman enters and says they'll need to add ANOTHER tech to her head, that it'll be double pay. I said No, to which she said it would be another hour. I said No, we are completely done. She said ok and a different woman comes into the room. She asks how much the tech treated, she says half. Then this new woman asks me if I've treated with other products (I answered as much in my paperwork) and begins to say it makes the hair gummy, has her hair been treated, etc. I said that's not the point. You don't have to rip her hair out to properly comb through it. So I was charged from arrival (when the girl who actually combed her hair wasn't even around) until we left. For a facility that runs on specifically dealing with a sensitive situation, these ladies were not concerned with being gentle with a scalp they know has sores from bites! They weren't even gentle with mine! If anything, they have signage about karma returning to people they know and how they're doing their best to help us with a stressful situation. It did not feel that way at all. If anything, we were at fault for our issues and something touted as "fast service" was going to take twice as long as me combing it myself, using FAR smaller sections of hair at a time. Please save your child the pain and get a prescription from the doctor if Nix didn't work. Or buy the products here but don't use the service. I bought the comb and will now spend another evening combing out my daughter's hair. Your wallet, sanity, and child will thank you, trust me. read more

I'm a nurse. I'm skilled. So when we found lice, I knew how to manage it for my children. I used a headlamp, tweezers, and effectively removed every nit, nymph, and louse on my children's heads. They have long hair, it took one hour each kid and it was peaceful. They have long hair. Did my husband out of an abundance of caution-- and then came here for my own assistance as I cannot use a headlamp on my own scalp. When they learned I wasn't bringing in my whole family, immediately I was scoffed at: "well you will continue having lice!" That's a direct quote. I have short hair, but was billed for 2 hours when I was there for less, sat waiting for the manager to come "check" my head -- watching her milk the time, talking to colleagues, clean the floor, make jokes. Milk time, charge me extra money. I asked if they found any nits or nymphs. They wouldn't show me despite my requests. My short hair should have taken 45 minutes but that's not enough money! I was asked to purchase a kit for treatment if it happens again, which, of course, defies their guarantee. But turns out, the guarantee is invalidated because I didn't bring my kids (you know, spend 1200 there). The kit I was supposed to buy had a comb they mocked as "not good enough" (see nix), a plastic magnifying glass you get from a vending machine, and doesn't even include their "magic oils" which they also sell for $35 (you can buy these oils for $10 at a pharmacy). When I asked why they want me to return in 1-5 days for a check, when nits take 6-9 days to hatch, she replied: I didn't put lice in your hair while you were here!!! What a response. Assuming they got the larger nits but the newer ones were too small to be captured through their combing (not tweezering) technique, it makes sense to delay 7-9 days. Again, I'm a nurse. Her response: "I didn't put lice in your hair" was so... astounding. So hidden fees, canceled guarantee, milked time, and $240 later, if my family has a recurrence, it will be from me because of their absurd practice. Lastly, they have no place to put your belongings. So after they seat you and you put your things on the floor, they ask you to move so another person can use your seat. So grab your things off the floor and go sit somewhere else while they line the building with people, triple book their employees, and then milk their time with that patron, so your time is extended. We are so grateful for the care we received and the time so many staff members took to treat my daughter and myself. It does take time and if you have ever pulled nits out of hair you know it takes a little pulling. My daughter is 6 and she chatted with staff, watched Bluey and laughed through the whole process. The pricing scheme at this place is a scam. Don't believe their website pricing. It is a bait and switch They will find every way they can to sneak in extra costs (with rates as high as $195 per hour), a mandatory 30% gratuity, etc. I made an appt at the clinic after reviewing everything I could about their pricing online. I expected to pay approx $180 per person. However, in the end I paid, on average, $350-400 per person. They did not tell me about any of the hidden costs until after they had already began treatment on three of my children and myself. I would recommend you go elsewhere or risk being stuck with multiple hidden costs and a huge bill (mine was $1600). They were accommodating and helpful, but in the end, I felt deceived. read more

Not lice free!!! We spent $1000 and were guaranteed lice free. Went back for our 5 day check in - guaranteed lice free. A few days later 3 out of 4 of us find lice on our heads. We also referred our neighbors who also were cleared at the 5 day check up only to find they still had lice too. The children were not in contact so it wasn't a matter of passing it back and forth. Also, we have excellent insurance and they are covering ZERO. So don't trust when they say "insurance will cover a lot of the cost". This is now been 3 trips which is also a lot of missed work. Helpful service but sneaky pricing. Customer service is seriously lacking. Poorly trained staff, most in HS age and don't seem well trained. Will not go back to this location (Mercer Island) Things to be cautious of 1) Clock your time. They round up and this cost us about an extra $75. 2) They charge $15/person for leaving the treatment on. 3) They tell you insurance will reimburse. Check if they are in your network first. 4) On top of feeling like they overcharged us, when we went back for 5 day recheck, I was followed out to my car by an employee asking me to come inside to go over my bill. I went in to be told that they didn't overcharge me they undercharged me! Followed by telling me I need to pay $148 more dollars (for their mistake). This was their mistake, they should have eaten the cost. Terrible customer service. 5) Read all the small print bc what they tell you isn't accurate. Overall, it's a helpful service to have. I found the way we were charged to be unethical. I believe at minimum they need to reimburse me the $148 they demanded at recheck. I will update this post if ever reimbursed. When we were in the chairs being treated we were told it's almost always $100 - $125 per person via the employee we were working with. $1000 later for 4 people. The technician was able to identify nits within minutes of the first screening, and our entire family of 4 was able to get treated in less than a day. our children were able to return to daycare the next day which alleviated a lot of stress and potential problems. Lice To Know You uses all naturally derived products, and they don't try to push a bunch of product for you to buy. They will recommend what you need to maintain defense against future infestations. Save your time and money. *this is for Mercer island location* We unfortunately had to use their lice removal service. I called around 7:30pm (August 8) expecting to leave a voicemail and get a return call the next day. To my surprise-I received as text message right away and an appointment was set up for the next day! We arrived on time to our appointment (August 9) only to be ignored for 10 mins, while we stood behind a big sign that explained their COVID protocols. I said "hello" to a stylist, and made eye contact only to be ignored. We finally made it into the treatment room, and there we sat for the next FIVE AND A HALF hours in silence. I understand the stylists aren't there to chat you up, but an explanation would have been nice. They were so rough with my daughter (9) she was in tears. We've never had lice, so honestly we didn't know what to expect-but this wasn't it. Their website states clearly they charge per hour, and that typical treatment is 1-1.5 hours. My daughters hair is very thick, so I was expecting it to take a bit longer-but certainly not 5.5 hours. Then comes the check up. We return 3 days later for the required check up. Things look good, nothing found. We were told about 30 day policy. September 8 (day 29) comes and I'm doing a check on my daughters head-lice, again. I immediately text Lice Knowing You. I'm told I'm over the 30 day guarantee and they can only offer me a 20% discount. I paid $800 (treatment for myself ~2 hours, and ~5.5 hours for my kid) to be told I'm out of luck. For $100/HOUR I feel pretty ripped off. I wasn't asking for anything free, just honor the guarantee. We went to another clinic closer to home, and had treatment (1.5 hours) and a flat rate, and they offered a longer guarantee and multiple checks during the 5 week guarantee. read more

I hope people see this review before they head to this business. We spent $860 for 2 family members the day of our visit. Once you get there they show you a piece of paper with the charges (listed on their website) however they leave out the extra 20% they add to the bill. Once you are there you are not leaving because you are just want to get treated. The service for my son almost left him in tears (he is 11) because of how rough the technician was. They sell that as that's how treatment is supposed to be. We scheduled our follow up and were given a "lice free" verbal confirmation. One week later I found 3 adult lice (which I kept in a container to show them). I texted (they don't pick up the phone if you call) to get scheduled for another treatment. That was Tuesday. They didn't reply until Saturday. I asked to talk to the manager to express my concern as I feel that is the best step before posting reviews on yelp. It was a nightmare to talk to this person. They told me I was being abusive and said if I was in the clinic the police would be called! I decided not to engage after that crazy text from them and booked my appointment at The Lice Clinic. I paid $187 and had the issue addressed. The Lice Clinic literally treated the issue, I spoke to the owner on the phone and the people who work there are the most caring people iv'e met in any industry. I felt such peace of mind the moment we walked through the door! We were greeted by Allie who was very sweet and friendly and did not try to push products on us(which I loved!) She got started on our treatments right away. My 10 year old daughter had a really difficult time when we did the home treatment the night before but was relaxed and comfortable (as much as she could be!) in the hands of such an experienced technician. I got to meet the owner Nancy who promptly offered me much needed coffee. Then the other very kind technicians got to work on me. They explained the process as they went along and talked with me about what they found. They were delightful to talk to in general! I was very impressed with their techniques and love that they have a 2nd technician do a thorough check after the treatment. I also really appreciated the tips they gave us to clean our home, bedding, etc. The atmosphere is very kid-friendly with books, toys and a wall of candy which my daughter loved and I indulged at 9 in the morning. (After all she and I were up until 11:30 doing the ridiculous home treatment. Ugh!) No, this isn't a cheap process but was worth every penny and I wouldn't hesitate to go back again. I've already referred friends who made need them someday. I also loved their scheduling process. After leaving a bit panicked early voicemail I received a text with prompts to figure out the best location and time for our appointments. Then was contacted by Nancy via text with our times. I found this method of communication extremely efficient and instantly comforting. Also, I love that their products are plant-based and very effective. We bought their prevention spray at my daughter's hair salon ages ago and it helped us have a lice free home for 10 1/2 years which is shocking considering all of my daughter's camps and sleepovers. This is a service you never want to use, but may have to. I thought I knew what to look for when it came to lice, but I actually didn't. My granddaughter had a really bad case of lice, and because she had very long hair, I followed her doctor's recommendation to have her hair professionally treated. It took almost 3 hours by time we were done. They offer a 30 day guarantee, as long as you meet certain conditions, not the least of which is a return visit within 5 days. Since they are considered an essential business, they charge a 20% gratuity above the $110/hr rate. You really need to be well-informed of their policies and procedures before you make the choice to have the treatment. Having said all that, the technician did a thorough job, and even managed to find a new bug on the return visit. Quite frankly, for us, it was the right choice. Oh, and some insurance companies may be willing to reimburse the treatment...not ours, but Lice Knowing You did provide the procedure code for submission. read more

I tried calling when I thought my daughter had lice. The outgoing message said to email, so I did that. Hours later still no response, so I called again. This time, I immediately received a text. They were able to get my daughter in for treatment that day, thankfully. I found the bill excessive, in that there is "prep time" you are charged for but they are also doing checks at this time, so essentially double-billing. Doesn't seem right to me and my questions about it were dismissed. Even so, they heavily encourage you to tip, which seems outlandish given their prices and double-dipping policies. Then, to try and schedule our "free" follow up re-check, which if you don't do, they won't honor their 30 day guarantee, is challenging at best. The only way I've successfully had communication is via text and it's spotty at best and snippy and inconsistent at worst. At this point, I'm hoping we are done with lice. If not, I'll look elsewhere for help. read more

They got the job done, but it was a traumatic experience for my daughters. The treatment was painful and the service providers were not gentle nor compassionate. Scheduling was also inefficient. I would not go back there again. read more

I hope to never set foot in this office again. And I don't mean because I hope my kids don't get lice again, that's a given. This place has some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. They do not explain the process and when asked questions give very short answers that leave you feeling just as confused as you started out. Our appointment was at 11am and we were in our car by 12:50 and in that time the 2 adults in our party were checked and my 2 daughters were treated. However- I was billed for 2.25 hours of treatment. They try and sell you more of their product even after you say you already have it or the like. Parents- bring snacks for your kiddos because they stock the shelves at kid level with overpriced and unhealthy snacks. We scheduled our re-checks for the Seattle office in hopes that the issues lies with the Mercer Island crew and not the business as a whole. I will update after those appointments happen. read more

LKY was a life saver! When we got the lice letter from our kids' school, I took my daughter in to get checked mostly for peace of mind. I called at 3:45 and they were able to offer us an appointment right away. I headed straight there (easy drive from Seattle), got checked and it turns out that she had lice! They were even able to do the treatment right away and we were done in about an hour. Their staff was professional and polite. The place was as pleasant as you could make a lice salon. They even offered me a glass of wine! They have a whole wall of hair treatment products, but there was never any pressure or up sell for these products. In fact, they didn't even mention it until I asked about it. I did buy a home lice detection kit and some environmental sprays. Honestly for the service, I would pay almost any amount of money. Yes, it is pricey, but for what they do in an hour, it would take many more to do yourself at home plus the cost of the products (and the cleanup!) I hope to never need their services again, but I would highly recommend it if you find yourself in a similar situation. read more
