It's a shame that the DMV Licence X-press lost it's space at 34th Street. It was certainly more convenient than this office. But the move worked out in my favor since it seems as if no one has found the new location. It's late afternoon and the place is a ghost town. Once again the self-serve kiosk saves the day. Driver's abstracts, registration renewals... You can even submit a change of address with it. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. There was already a line formed in front of the building when I arrived around 8ish. Good thing they open the DMV at 8:30AM right on the dot. The security forms a zigzag line which isn't out the door. I had to fill out the form which the DMV mailed me to renew my State Id and was able to go back to the woman where she gave me a # of P500 and I stared at the monitor in front of me. It was quick and easy when my # was broadcasted. I gave her my form and Id. *crossing my fingers* hope my new picture Id comes out nice hehe I timed myself that it took 22 mins which is not bad at all from going into the DMV, filling out the form, and waiting. I had to renew my license and I didn't want to pay for an eye test to renew by mail, so I made an appointment at this License Express location. I have spent hours at other locations, but today I was in and out in less than 30 minutes! It was a great experience, the staff were good at directing everyone to get checked in and set up to fill out their applications. You can save time by printing the application online and filling it out before arriving (they don't accept the mail-in application). Make sure you have all of the proper documents ahead of time by checking the list on their website. Scheduling and rescheduling appointments was an easy process with clear instructions in the emailed confirmation. Definitely recommend this location! read more

Efficient and painless DMV visit. I needed to renew my license and got here around 8:50am and left around 9:20am so my trip took around 30mins or less. Compared to my other DMV experiences, this has been my best one. It would take me hours or a full day to normally get one thing done at the dmv. If you ever need a license renewal, I definitely recommend coming here. License NOT express. It takes 2 hours for process time for renewals so you wait in line to submit renewal application and then about 2 hours for them to call you back so you can pay. Yet no one can give an explanation as to why it takes so long to pay after you finish applying. This was the same for most of the people waiting here read more

Who would think a DMV type place in New York would get higher than 2 stars. Well this express place is great. You can't expect 2 minute service anywhere so people need to stop trying to do 100 errands and go to the DMV in the same day. I have come here a couple of times. They offer most but not all services that the standard dmv offers. For example you cannot register a vehicle from another state here because they do not have plates available. There is usually a person that's standing by the check in machine to help assist you. And theres a lady at the first desk, I call her information because she usually screens your forms to make sure you have the correct forms and information before you sit down and wait. After she sees you're ready she will give you a number to wait on line. Lots of seats but you prob won't be there longer than 30 minutes. The ladies behind the desk typically have the same DMV attitude we're accustomed to but they are actually still very helpful and efficient. I haven't had an issue there and I usually make that my first choice before I go to the other DMV on 30th and 8th ave read more

Friday after Xmas and I walked in thinking I had the time to deal w a renewal/upgrade to the Enhanced license. What I discovered was madness. Probably triple the allowable ppl in the room. Every seat taken. People sitting/ standing everywhere. An incoherent "greeter" who confused every person that walked in. Each person needed the nice man to repeat the bizarre directions 3 times: "here's your app and a pen, but so t fill it in yet. Instead stand in that line, no not that one the other one next to that one, and have your picture taken. Then come back and get in this line for a code that we won't explain for 2 hours..." 2 hours? Try 3.33 hours. After an hour, the manager starts yelling at all 200 of us. Because some people are confused why they need a passport 2 forms of address 2 photo ids and a SS card to enter Canada (" you've heard of Canada people, right? You know it's one of our bordering neighbors!!" I wish I had videoed this little speech. ) At 2 hours in, manager announces that you can make an appt instead of waiting. This is news to 30 people who decide that this is for them. Nobody told anybody when we came in that the wait was 3 hours. They started that little practice after I was there for 1.5 hours. What about the poor guy who waited 2 hours only to be told that his deli ticket was a Q code not a U code, and so he'd have to get the right ticket and wait again from zero. But the best, the best... was when my number finally got called. Do I get Michael Jackson singing guy? Nope. Do I get serious Chinese lady? Uhnuh. I get pissy and rude Dominican woman. Throws my cards at me. Won't answer me. Doesn't have basic manners like thank you or sorry. And I made a pint to greet her cheerfully in such a rough day (for all of us). F her. If I had not waited 3 hours on my vacation day, I would def have clarified reality for her. This might have been an unusual day at the "Expressway" but it showed the true colors of The poor systems here, the terrible communication, the nasty dispositions, and the absolute callousness. Went to renew my license and change to a REAL ID. With new federal rules, you need a Real ID or enhanced license to go through airport security after October 2020. There were no appointments available online for at least 2 months. With the Real ID requirement, people who used to renew online or by mail, now go in, making the DMV quite crowded. I showed up at about 7:15 (they open at 8:30). There was no one on line. At about 7:30 people tricked in, and by 8 there was a sizeable line. When they opened, the line was wrapped around the block. Online, you can fill out and print the application, as well as confirm which docs to bring. This is important as the only person in front of me had to fill out docs, and watched a whole line of people pass him while he did it, and the girl after me who was there a few days ago without the proper ID stuff. I had a w-2, current drivers license, passport, and mortgage statement. Highly encouraged to do the online check so you have everything ready. Doors opened promptly at 8. Those with paperwork were given a number then sent to photo line, then wait until number is called for second person who looks over docs and takes payment (about $81). I was out by 8:40. So an hour and a half total time, but only 10 mins once doors opened. read more

Today...Friday around noon: This place was crazy crowded and they were yelling out loud..."YOU NEED AN APPOINTMENT TO BE HERE.." The staff was still courteous and friendly...but if you show up any later than when they open...you'll probably be waiting 2 or 3 hours. So good It's changed my entire perception of going to the DMV. I had to come here after my wallet got stolen to replace various IDs. I was dreading it since I'd lost every photo ID I owned and was essentially starting from scratch. I booked my appointments in advance and was in and out within 15 minutes each time. Peter is extraordinary, so helpful, knowledgable, and quick! He walked me through the complicated bureaucracy of replacing an out-of-state, expired, AND lost DL and had answers to everything I couldn't find online. The only downside was my ID photo. I have to echo everyone else's sentiments and say that this place lives up to it's name. It was high time for me to switch over my out of state license and voter registration. I made a reservation online and had my application filled out and all of the necessary supporting documents in hand (passport, social security card, old license, a pay stub and a ConEd bill) upon arrival. I was there ~10 minutes early but was sent straight to the station to get my photo taken and my number was called immediately after that was done. The employee who handled my paperwork was friendly and efficient and I believe I was out of there before my scheduled appointment time. UNHEARD OF. WHAT A JOY. read more

Expect to spend 2-2.5 hrs here, even if you have a reservation. I could spend a full review explaining the frustrations of lack of basic crowd management like creating "lines", or installing more computer kiosks, or actually using the kiosks that do exist instead of having staff operate the kiosks. Or I could talk about prioritizing the quick transactions like renewals over longer transactions like new license or commercial license. I could talk about the lack of staffing, or anticipation of traffic patterns. But I won't spend time talking about this - it's a state-run taxpayer-funded government run office that comes with all the fun of this experience. It will never improve or change, it just "is". At least they have a sense of humor and call it "express" Your best bet is to go in before breakfast/ lunch, grab a ticket number and then leave to eat your food and come back at least an hour later. Then you only wait for an hour and a half in the depressing room. I'm on hour 2.5 now.. feeling pretty dead inside. read more

Sorry I can't give it 0 stars. Unfortunately the worst experience of my life. I've heard stories about the dmv but I thought they were just that, stories. Now I ve come to realize that they might of been understating some of their encounters. I arrived at 11:30 to be told it's a 4 hour wait. I thought, impossible. Wow where they off. I finally had to leave @4:20 with nothing being done. Don't ask to speak to a supervisor because she only sees 1 person every 30-45 minutes. Don't ask for any assistance because you'll be greeted with the upmost disdain. Like if you're bothering them from their conversations. These things didn't happen to me but after 5+ hours you see so much. One person wears gloves to protect herself from germs I guess while at the same time opening and closing her water bottle with the same gloves. Anyhow, I can't wait to do this all over again tomorrow. read more

Not sure why this is considered a DMV Express other than the fact that the vicinity as a whole is a lot less smaller than a regular DMV. Other than that same wait time if not longer, same frustrations. Waited almost 2 hours just to do a change of address and try to get what is now known as a "Real ID" to replace my current one and be told that I needed either my birth certificate or social security card. terrible service from the lady gatekeeping the ticket dispenser. did not grab her name but absolutely rude and not personable. simply handed me an application to fill out I Tried to take a ticket so I could wait while I fill out the form. lady refused to let me pass to get a ticket and demanded that I fill out the form before I could take a ticket. told her that's ridiculous as I was on my lunch break for work and that is inefficient. lady demanded that's how it is and ignored me and started talking with her co worker about go I was wrong and proceeded to talk with him specifically referencing me. later turns out she actually handed me a form in Spanish and had to waste additional time to get another form in English. To be clear I was at this location 3 weeks prior where I pulled a ticket while I was completing the form I was in and out under 20 minutes so this lady was wrong and clearly doesn't understand her own policies. unfortunate because all other staff members were accommodative and very helpful I want to emphasize that. everyone except this lady and the worker she was talking to were great A+. just that one lady by the ticketing machine with a power trip. she was absolutely unwilling to help anyone and seemed like her job was just standing in front of the ticketing line to refuse tickets to people walking in Sad this is where our tax dollars are being spent -she does not belong there. I wasted about 15 additional minutes as I waited and saw people who got there after me skip me in the line. I could have been in and out in 15/20 minutes but had to be late to a meeting because the lady said other alternative is to walk in on another date and restart the process. ridiculous. I was there around 3:15/3:30PM on 09/05 if these comments are monitored I would like to get a callback/email to get this looked into. Thanks. I was dreading having to visit the DMV to renew my license since I needed to do it in person. I came across this place on the DMV site and it seemed to be based around license's only so figured maybe I'd fare better going here than a main DMV office. Turns out, it was the best thing. I got there a little after 3 on a rainy Tuesday, and while it was crowded, it certainly wasn't packed. The staff instructed me where to go and gave me a number. It couldn't have been anymore than 25 minutes from when I first entered until I was called, paid and out the door 10 minutes later. Mind you, this was all without having an appointment. If for ANY REASON you have to go to a walk in DMV I certainly recommend coming here. After reading the mostly positive reviews on Google I decided to try it. I can't even remember the last time I stepped into a DMV office. All I remember from the last time was how much I wanted to leave the second the doors opened. I'm pretty sure Chaos is their mission objective. Well..not anymore, yes you will have to wait but as soon you walk in there's a woman with very useful info handing out "bakery" ticket numbers. After a short walk from there you have your pic taken then.....you sit and wait. I did walk in around lunchtime so my wait was probably longer than most. And I did read online to show up outside before 830am to be first in line, but my days of waiting outside buildings before they open are waaaaaaay over. Anyway, start to finish just over an hour. Everyone there was professional and welcoming even though the place was packed. Chaos it seems has been brushed aside and I'm all for it. The process was quick with an appointment. You get in line to take your new photo, then go to counter 1 to check-in for your appointment, they give you a W number and I only waited about 10 minutes for my number to be called. However this was on a Wednesday, and even though the DMV website says it's the best day, it is actually the worst. The staff will tell you any other day will have a significantly shorter wait because everyone goes on Wednesday since that's the best time according to the website. So even with an appointment the whole process took about 30-40 minutes. The wait till for walk ins were estimated to be over 2 hours and the waiting area was filled, at least 30 people sitting and another 20+ standing around. So even with an appointment don't waste your time, avoid going on Wednesday's. read more

Y'all talking about how polite and friendly the employees are here must be white. I've seen people in prison be spoken to more courteously than I was here (though not some of the white people around me). So rude, apparently eye contact is fatal for them, & their life goals seemed to be (1) to try to prevent me from getting done what I needed to do - playing Gotcha, making accusing demands about what I'd brought and trying to find fault, and becoming even more hostile when they failed - and (2) to bark at me as though I were a misbehaving child. Bring earplugs - they are blasting music, and on top of the chattering crowd it adds to the stress. The only good thing is that if you make a reservation, it does seem to save a ton of time. Place was packed and I waited maybe 5 minutes for the first part of what I needed, 10 for the second. There's no bathroom, and of course neither water fountain works. Natch. TIP: *FILL OUT* ALL FORMS AT HOME BEFORE COMING IN. The extra-hostile reception lady at the first / front desk will make you feel like you've committed a capital crime if you don't. read more

I came to get a temporary ID around 3:30PM which is thirty minutes before the doors are closed. People were repeatedly informed not to go out because they doors were gonna shut. Obviously there's idiots who don't listen. As for the people who work here I was shocked at how friendly these DMV employees were because usually they tend to be miserable. Went in on a rainy Tuesday at 9am. It took 2 hours, not 30 minutes. I still give this place because: 1. It was clean. 2. The line was moving quickly and the progress was transparent. The wait was clearly a volume thing (secret's out!) 3. DMV staff were professional, competent, and not the stereotypical angry I-hate-my-job-and-all-humanity. I'd have trouble staying perky and friendly if I did what they did. 4. They worked with me. I was getting an enhanced REAL ID and changing my address and didn't bring a second proof of address. While I had to advocate for myself a bit to troubleshoot (I had heard another person be offered an express pass if they came back with the right paperwork), she gave me the pass, I printed my stuff at the FedEx around the corner, and the dude standing by the "get your number" kiosk was friendly and helpful enough that I left with a small smile. read more

I am writing this review in hour 3 of my wait. There are still 30 #'s ahead of me. I arrived at 9am. Its now Noon. This location is suppose to be express but is NO WHERE NEAR quick. Not all registers are open, and there are not nearly enough seats to accommodate even 1/4 of the patrons waiting. The process is "express" insofar as you first stand in a line to take your picture, and second wait for your number to be called. But 3+ hours when I arrived at opening is intolerable for a station advertised as express. Save yourself time and knee paid and mail/digitally renew!!! read more

Went in this morning (without an appointment). I would HIGHLY recommend going first thing in the morning. I arrived at 7:45 and of course had to wait outside for 45 minutes but I was 5th in line. The doors opened pretty promptly at 8:30 and everyone in line had their picture taken and then was taken to a seat. After being seated, I waited about 5-10 minutes for my number to be called and then was at the desk for all of about 7 minutes and was able to walk out with a temporary license with the new one in the mail for arrival in 10 business days. I think I was out the door by 8:45 - latest 8:50. As I noted above, I would definitely recommend getting there as early as you can. By 8AM, the line had grown to 25+ people, and by the time it opened at 8:30AM, I would guess the line was over 100 people. So the wait time grew astronomically just by getting there closer to when it opened - and I bet their overall wait time was a lot longer than mine. My experience was probably 5 stars, but for the fact that I did have to get there at 7:45 (so I deducted a star) - but really, if you play it right, this can be pretty easy and painless. read more
