It wasn't quick, but damn was it tasty! Kept it simple with a white fish salad on toasted sesame, pastrami knish, and a Dr. Brown's cream soda. All hit the spot. The fish was delightfully salted and greasy with a gorgeous lemon flavor. Knish was a nice surprise savory and tender, though could use a little more potato to fill it out and make it a meal rather than a snack. I went the carnivorous route, but was very impressed by the spread of vegan offerings. Will definitely be back. read more

While fam enjoyed L and L Deli on Sat!! I tried the vegan pastrami for the first time anywhere. I couldn't believe how good it was!!! Bro had it on their Rye and I tried sourdough. While it was good, the rye bread looked so much better!! Pastrami vegan as it was amazingly delicious taste and mouth feel. Vinegar based Potato Salad had dill and also delicious. Others wished for mayo type base which wasn't offered. Not included, I missed having a pickle slice to go with it. I noticed they offer 3 types but not new dill, my fav. A Jewish Deli in Northampton - what?!? What a pleasant surprise, and by my estimation, they are nailing it! So far just had a bagel with schmearq and kippered salmon, but can't wait to try the pastrami next time. I have gluten issues (but they use sourdough bagels from Comfort bagels - which I can digest just fine!), and they also have gluten free Linzer tortes, which I had to try and I was not disappointed! The rest of my party shared a big black and white cookie (see picture), and maybe most important of all, their coffee was universally liked by all of us, which I don't think has ever happened before. It is an open, airy and bright floor plan - great for a long conversation. And they play great music as well. Cool vibes, as the kids say. It's hard to give up some of our business with Jake's, but Lichter & Levin is immediately very high on my list for brunch, or maybe even linner!! Wow, amazing Jewish deli in Northampton and with excellent vegan options! I had the vegan pastrami on rye -- absolutely amazing and what a blessing to have that on offer. Vegan deviled egg salad was great. I eat eggs, but I wanted to try the vegan version. So so good. Pickles were perfect. Black and white was perfect. I popped in for a bit of late breakfast and enjoyed everything! In particular, their lox is generously sliced and a beautiful color from their beet marinade. They serve Comfort Bagels out of Chicopee and have a large selection of Jewish classics, including a bunch of sweets and delicious potato knishes. Highly recommend the Salted Chocolate Chip cookie as well. Staff was cheerful and efficient, big fan of this update to the former Roost. Great addition to the downtown area! read more

It's expensive and just not good. High prices. Mandatory gratuity automatically added to the bill. When I went, it took 45 minutes to get through the line and another 45 minutes to get my food, which was a simple pastrami sandwich with mustard. Actually, no, it was corned beef because they were out of pastrami and didn't bother to communicate this until after the 45 minute line. My friend who ordered 2 minutes before me was given a pastry for her wait, which was just as long as mine and that's cool, but my wait wasn't so much as acknowledged. This place wants to be Katz' but is not comparable in quality or efficiency, merely in prices. Oy! An authentic NY deli in Noho complete with what may feel like NY prices to some. Don't let the long line dissuade you, it moves quickly. Matzo ball soup was good. Didn't have challah (odd) that I was craving with my chicken salad. No chopped liver, odd. Pastrami was thick cut and very good. Rye was good but got hard in toasting. Limp pickle and not a fan of the Jewish health salad but the potato salad was very good. I couldn't bring myself to spend the money on a black and white cookie! We will try again for some blintzes and cheesecake. Much success in Northampton. read more

Got 1 hot coffee 1cold coffee, an untoasted bagel, a very cold Babka bun, and what seemed like no Black and White. Inquired about the Black and White, got one in a bag. Asked about the Bagel, was told, only toasted in request. We did request it toasted. They took it back. Gave us a new bagel, just warmed? The bagel we knew was good, since we go to Comfort Bagel regularly. We found the Black and white squished up against the Babka? Who knew? Any how, a lackluster experience. We were excited to try this Place after reading that the manager of Lake Street Dive had opened it on a "Let"s try!" whim. When you walk in, one of the differences between this place, and some of "those other sandwich shops", is that you can smell the meat toasting. Very flavorful and delicious, except they were out of turkey 30 minutes before closing, and we went with the snack option instead. Black and white cookies, a delicious cream puff, babka roll, assorted pickles, a cup of chicken salad to go and a coffee. The treats were $28 without the pickles (bought separately), so a fair deal. The coffee, even at 4:30 pm, tasted freshly brewed and was a beautiful roast of some kind- not garbage grounds. I also noticed that, besides the chicken salad, there were other vegetarian and vegan sandwich fillers. The pickles immediately got 2 thumbs up ( why only 3 per person when you walk in as a couple. Boo.) Cream puff and babka were yummy and filled a pre-dinner snack need. Would go back to have a sandwich! read more

The pastrami was ridiculously dry!!!! It's my favorite kind of sandwich and I've never had one quite as bad as this. I feel robbed! Also the sign said closed and nobody seemed to want to fix that. I honestly don't understand - this is basically a small sandwich shop with very limited options, no lettuce or fresh add-ons, and prices that make no sense. A Reuben was $22 - huh? This food is not anything special. The sides were shockingly small and price high. Food quality is just okay, nothing that stands out, and certainly not worth the cost. The shop was busy when I went, which surprises me, because I can think of plenty of other spots that give you more variety, better value, and a more satisfying meal. Very underwhelmed. First, you need to know no pastrami corned beef until 11:am. No where online are customers made aware of that. We drove from Greenfield for corned beef specifically. The potato knish was bland and soft, lacking that crunchy pastry top. The white fish was good, as well as the begal which was $$$. I think their food is imported and not made fresh. I could be wrong. Finally, they add a "hospitality charge" for counter service. There were six people behind the counter and we still had to ask for help. Not good. Will we be going back? Anyhow both the pastrami and corned beef sandwiches are priced at $22. It's a high price for sandwiches generally but perfectly reasonable for real pastrami and corned beef. I asked the young woman at the counter if they could do a half pastrami and half corned beef, not separate, but one sandwich with half as much of both meats, so no real extra work. She told me the "chef" probably wouldn't do it. Huh. But she didn't even ask. I left. The good thing is that there are dozens of other choices for lunch at noon in Northampton. Disappointing The atmosphere is very nice. The staff very nice but need much more training. $22.00 for a sandwich with a tiny pickle and tiny side of odd potato salad seemed like a lot. I was hoping to share a pastrami sandwich with a friend at work so I ordered an extra side of potato salad 5.00. The price came to $30.50. They added a handing fee. Ok fine live and learn. If I knew they gave themselves a tip I wouldn't have put more into the tip jar. Enough about price. For a deli I thought the sandwich was small the side was smaller. As i said I ordered a pastrami but when I got to work in the bag was a corned beef. At work so I had to eat it. I thought the corned beef was dry but not a sandwich I wanted. A Rueben, three small (and I mean very small) sides, half a pickle, a cookie, and two smoothies got us to $60 quick. Koufax and Dodger Blue smoothies were great. The pastrami was incredible. (Like holy shit, amazing!) Pickle and pickle salad, tasty. Although getting only half a pickle with a $22 sandwich is uncool. It's a great pickle. Would love to get a whole one. We'll be back for those things. The bread for the sandwiches felt like the sandwiches only weak point. Supplying comfort bagel for bagels tells me they've got great taste so I hope they explore better bread/baker options. The bread couldn't hold up to the remarkable pastrami but the breads weakness will not stop me from ordering that pastrami Rueben again. Crossing my fingers a sturdy seeded rye is in the future. White fish salad and potato salad were a bit underwhelming. Probably won't get again. Black and white cookie was tasty but not quite what I hoped for. We should have explored the other desserts. It seems like the initial rush and risk of everything being sold out has passed. Glad we waited a few weeks. Cashier did an amazing job warning us the sides were small, I can tell they've gotten some heat for that, but the tiny cup they're served in does look sad. Service was generally good although this location pre-LNL (the roost) also struggled with how to get customers to use space well. Maybe some instructive signs about where to line up and letting folks know their food will be brought to them will help prevent unruly congestion around the register. I'm optimistic for their future but they'll need to expand their menu within a couple months to make frequent visits worth it. Looking at iconic NY and Philly delis should give them plenty of inspiration. That being said, it's nice to have good restaurants back in NoHo. The rent prices mean all the talent is fleeing and this feels like a win for the town. Little note, it's kinda icky to still have restroom codes. I highly encourage management to remove the code locks from the bathroom. It creates some unnecessary foot traffic to the register and not the most welcoming environment. read more

Counter person had to go find out what the season butter was. Train your staff. They all looked and acted like they would rather be elsewhere. We order 2 hot coffees got one hot and one iced. Order my bagel toasted it was not. Took it back. Apparently they think heating a bagel is the same as toasting it. It is not. Good thing it was a comfort bagel (Westfield) or I would have just tossed it. Got no jam with my butter and jam order. Holy Mole. You've got some work to do. Where to begin? Lovely bagels and the knishes are excellent. Not so excellent: I got there at 9:30 AM on a Monday. No pumpernickel bagels, only plain. They had evidently run out. Ordered two pieces of cheesecake, and only one was left. Ordered an egg cream, and it was 50% foam. So much for 16 ounces. I also found out that this is probably the only deli that won't make you a sandwich until after 11:00. The first time I went, they had run out of turkey. I drove 40 miles for all this. This is the second time that I've been to Lichter and Levin. The first was about a month ago and I enjoyed it. It wasn't Katz's but the pastrami was the second best I've ever had. So I took two of my friends to Lichter and Levin today and , to put it mildly we were all so disappointed. Firstly ,in order to have any flavor meat must have some fat.and ,indeed, at my first visit the pastrami I had did have some fat on it and did have some taste. But on this visit taste escaped this pastrami. Dry and tasteless would be a gross understatement. Even one of my friends who likes lean pastrami agreed that it had no taste. And here's what made it even worse. I complained to the manager that there was no fat and no taste to the meat. She then told me that I should have told the order taker that I wanted fatty pastrami. I DID JUST THAT and was told that all of the pastrami was the same. At that point the manager said that they would train their order takers that people could opt for fattier meat. Now I don't know if this training will work but I certainly will never set forth into this deli so I can spend $22.00 for a dry, tasteless pastrami sandwich !!! read more

First visit was disappointing.Corned beef was very good, but no choice of bread. Was told I could only have it on Marble rye. Bread was toasted, but one piece was soggy. Too long to get order and had to wait 30 minutes standing in a small part of the deli. One person takes .your order. Only 2 menus by the counter. Had to wait for people ahead of us to decide.I ordered a side of potato salad. It came in a teeny container, maybe 2 tablespoons, if that. The place appeared to be run by high schoolers. I was with a friend and we didn't see any adults. My friend ordered tuna. It was very dry. She went up to the counter and asked for extra mayo and they wouldn't give it her! Not quite the Jewish Deli experience I've grown up with and loved. Not sure if there will be second visit. Also a service fee added for slow service? My first time at the new deli in town, and it was wonderful! The place is bright, clean, and everything in the cases looked fresh and appetizing. I ordered a bagel classic sandwich to go -an everything bagel with beet-lox, scallion cream cheese, cucumber... it was maybe the best bagel sandwich I've ever had! Just the right amount of cream cheese, the lox was yummy and pretty with the beet color, thinly sliced cukes for a bit of crunch... perfect. Bagel was excellent too, reminded me of bagels I used to get in Brookline at kosher bakeries. Service was friendly, welcoming, relaxed. I am astonished by the negative reviews. Not only was my food incredible, the selection was tremendous. The vegan selection is better than virtually every jewish deli in the United States (not hyperbole). Yes, the line was long--but leaving negative reviews for a place that just opened for being busy is a such a bizarre behavior. The food is delicious. Unfortunately I would only take-out because I don't enjoy eating on greasy paper. Their sandwiches are only served as if for take-out..wrapped in paper and put in a large paper bag. When you eat in the restaurant it creates an unpleasant atmosphere to have to unwrap your sandwich, find somewhere to put the large paper bag, and then eat on your crinkled, greasy paper. Not nice. Woodstar's model is much more successful: if the food is "for here" serve it on real plates and offer real silverware and cups instead of paper and plastic. One minor thing - a heated bagel is not the same thing as a toasted bagel. The seating needs some serious help. As a former restaurant designer I'm happy to offer my suggestions if someone would like to contact me. I'd really like this restaurant to be successful because the food is excellent and it would be a nice addition to Northampton. read more
