I dropped my son off at basketball camp nearby and when I searched deli spot, this place caught my attention. It was close by, so I decided to go. When I arrived, I could tell it was busy because there were many cars parked outside. It was pouring rain , but I found a spot and ran inside. The line was long but it gave me sometime to look around. There was a lot to look at. A lady in front of me told me it's a popular spot and everything you get is delicious m. They serve everything from sandwiches and grinders to pasta, wings, bread, cookies, wine, pasta salad and SO much more! It is a bit tight in there and it was hard to look at everything in the case because people were standing waiting for their food. I ordered a sandwich and mozzarella sticks. A few of the staff seemed grumpy. One girl was complaining loud enough for customers to hear and the lady that helped me seemed like she didn't want to be there. The wait time was a little long I thought considering how many people were working. The lady that rang me out was very nice. I thought the prices were really reasonable too. My sandwich was really good. I could tell that the deli meat was fresh. I grabbed fresh lemonade from the cooler and I'm so glad that I did. It was delicious!! I love lemonade. I am so glad I grabbed the bag of homemade potato chips because they were soooo good. I munched on them on the way home. I suggest checking this place out if you are in the area!! read more

This place used to be a local icon, but quality seems to have slipped. If scanning Yelp reviews, for the current state of their food, focus on the more recent ones. My wife and I went to Frigo's today (a Saturday). I ordered the "Classic Italian" and she got the cream of broccoli soup. Suffice to say, my grinder did not look anything like the featured photo on Yelp. For the "Classic Italian", I was expecting quality Italian bread loaf. Instead, what I got was a small, spongey, insipid roll of inferior quality. The meats were pre-cut and rolled into a small "cigar" that went into the grinder roll. This caused the sandwich to be unbalanced: when taking a bite from the left side, I got some meat, but when biting from the right side, all I got was veggies and bread. The sandwich was a chore to finish and I only continued to stave off hunger. Overall, the quality wasn't great. I have eaten much better Italian grinders at lesser known establishments. My wife complained that the cream of broccoli soup had an overpowering flavor of onions. I tried and spoonful and have to say I agree. The one redeeming quality is that the food was relatively affordable, with the "Classic Italian" costing $10 and the cup of soup costing $3. Maybe other grinders or pre-made dishes are better, but after considering what we got, we will not be back. read more

In a city full of disappointing options, this place disappointed me more than most. I've had their cold cut sandwiches before, they are OK. Today I thought I'd mix it up with a Nicks Spicy Pollo, a hot grilled chicken sandwich. What a disaster. They microwaved the not grilled chicken breast until it was dry and stringy and hard to eat. The sandwich was flooded with some kind of dripping sauce that kept squirting out with every bite. I probably ruined a shirt after my first bite and I know I ruined my appetite because I will never order this sandwich again and I probably won't be coming back here for a very long time - until I'm extremely desperate. Italian delish! Cool little mom and pop. Stood behind several locals there to pick up dinner. They knew several by name. It seems they cook for the day and when they sale out they're out. Pasta salads, heros, meatballs, chicken parm, eggplant parm. The list goes on. They have a cheese selection and assortment of wine and desserts. I grabbed a giant brownie. Not as gooey as I'd like but still enjoyed. I ordered a hot sandwich Chicken Parm hero (sub) it was just enough sauce packed in foil to keep hot. They also have cold subs. 5 stars might be an understatement. When my boyfriend lived in Springfield, we'd come to Frigos on almost every one of my visits to town. Their sandwiches are all fantastic, the prepared food is fresh and their groceries are like taking a mini vacation to Italy. I love how authentic it feels in there. On our drive from Jersey to New Hampshire, we were going right through Springfield around lunch time and there was no question where we'd be picking up a food for the road. They have a parking lot right behind the and masks were worn by everyone. Also, guests in line were very respectful of keeping a distance. On this particular pitstop I just got a couple sandwiches but they were amazing, just like they always are! I got a turkey sandwich with all of the veggies on a roll and YUM. Nothing like a good deli sandwich. If you are driving through the area, from the area, whatever, this is a good place to get lunch and some dried pasta for later. read more

I just enjoyed a very delicious grinder from here. We ordered both the ultimate veggie sandwich and also a tuna grinder with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and red peppers; excellent! Also got some to go stuff for the family like a piece of their veg lasagna and a grilled chicken salad for my brother. Everything came out super reasonably priced. They had just gotten a shipment of really delicious olive oil from Sicily, and we were able to try some and it was incredible. For a deli that seeming has a good reputation the sandwich I ordered should be considered an embarrassment by any self respecting grinder shop. Doughy, bland hero roll with hardly any meat (this is definitely not Katz's deli). Mead and cheese microwaved then put on bread with barely a trace of kraut. There wasn't an obvious place to pick up my food so I had to wait in line; Kind of defeats the purpose of pre-ordering. Frigo's 10" subs/grinders/hoagies (whatever you want to call them) are the real deal. Don't get the half vienna, which is different bread, and too big anyway. The Italian meats are the star here. The sandwiches are meat-heavy and everything is melt-in-your-mouth tender and flavorful. Frigo's sandwiches compare in appearance to an authentic Philadelphia hoagie, but they are a different animal -- less balanced, more pure meat, but delicious in their own right.
