You definitely get that meat flavor with a hint of smokiness. The chili is meat based and sweet which blends in beautifully with the dog. The homemade mustered added a spice with a small kick. Complimenting the spice was the ketchup with hints of brown sugar sweetness and vinegar. Tim was a pretty cool guy to meet. Proud of his food and pretty chill wearing tie-dye and listening to some Dead tunes. While waiting for my order - taken by a cheerful and engaged worker - I observed the workflow in the restaurant and was astounded by the level of effort and competence that I saw in that short period. Although everyone remained busy taking care of the counters and tables, cleaning, tidying up and refilling dispensers, I noticed one young lady who had clearly mastered the art of multi-tasking. While moving from one end of the counter to another to take care of customers, she grabbed a cloth and wiped down the counters on her way. During a few moments of available time, a broom appeared in her hand and the floor was swept clean. As I was observing, I attempted to identify a manager or supervisor and could not do that. That suggests to me that the culture at Charlie Reidel's has evolved to a point where these dedicated employees take ownership of and pride in their jobs. My favorite of their hot dog offerings is their Hofmann Natural Casing German Brand Franks. They have a great flavor, mild but well rounded. The natural casing gives the hot dog a good snap as you bite into it. Hofmann makes a great hot dog and this hot dog is a German style pork and beef frankfurter. Price is about along the line with other decent quality hot dogs. They also go on sale at a BOGO (buy one, get one free) on a somewhat regular basis. Not too often, but often enough. Hofmann hot dogs are extremely popular up in upstate New York around the Syracuse, New York area. Again, they are a quality hot dog and once you try them, I think you will like them.
