Rated the best garbage plate in town for a reason. Who doesn't love dogs? This place is a fast casual restaurant that focuses on a variety of themed hot dogs, as well as garbage plates, including a famous vegan plate. The hot dog combos are all named after dog breeds. While there are tables inside, I've never seen it less than 100% full. There is also a cute patio area out front for outdoor dining. Straightforward counter service with some modest indoor seating. We ordered and squeezed into some communal seating. After a short wait we got our trays and were very impressed. The value for price was fantastic and the flavor was amazing. I ordered mine with "everything" and it was perfect. Definitely a meal on the heavy side but absolutely a must try. The inside of the restaurant was small and cozy. It was a good spot to enjoy our meals and rest. Definitely on the cramped side however people were rotating in and out rather fast so you don't have to wait long for a seat. There was also quite a few pickup orders going on. If you are in Rochester I think this should be one of your must stops. read more

Great local dive feel. Clearly legendary status in the community. Staff great. Really busy and perfectly located in a college town. Two stars for all of that. One problem: I clearly do not care for the local Zweigle sausages and hot dogs. They're tasteless. Maybe they're better piled on garbage plates or covered with toppings. On their own I'm left scratching my head. Really. Really. Disappointing. More locally, I'm a Hoffman's sausage guy out in Syracuse. I can't apologize for that. It's literally night and day. I might actually drive to Heid's in Liverpool tomorrow to restore my hope in hot dogs. The business and fun of Dogtown is terrific. The food is just not very good. One food-related note: the fresh bakery bread they serve their dogs and sandwiches on is unique. But adds no flavor or value to the experience. read more

Blink and you'll miss it driving by Dog Town is a great spot for a garbage plate in Rochester. Tons of customization options with different meats (different hot dog types, hamburgers, sausage, etc) and "make a plate" style ordering is pretty cool. No one here will shame you for ordering a garbage plate the way you want it. Order at the counter, and then dine in in their small dining area or get it for takeout (my preferred option). It's kind of a hipster vibe in here but customers range from college kids to older folks looking for their plate hit. Whenever I'm visiting friends in Rochester, Dog Town is always a welcome choice for dinner or lunch! read more

Man what an awesome place! Fast, cheap, friendly people. We pull in around 11 and there were hardly any spots. The only downfall. I ordered the Greek stray. I'm a sucker for the feta what can I say. I also got the Boston terrier. Which is topped with meat hot bacon and baked beans. Literally everything is so good here. I usually get full on one hotdog but I can't stop it's so good. Also this place has birch beer! My favorite soda!! Try it. Can't stop raving about this place. Definitely coming back. read more

What's not to love about a dining area filled with photos of cats and dogs? Dogtown's walls are covered with photos of beloved pets. The decor was a great conversation starter while dining with our kids. The dining room is small and it can be hard to find seating during a busy time. The lines kept forming during our visit and the restaurant felt overcrowded. This didn't stop us from enjoying our food, though some patrons had to stand outside eating in the rain. The hot dogs were delicious. Each table has ketchup and mustard available for toppings. We had to ask a server for relish and they kindly brought some over to our table. I didn't love the overly toasted bun, but that's just my personal preference. Dogtown is a Rochester staple for a reason. read more

Dogtown's ambience is fun with pictures of patrons' dogs and some cats on the wall. The piped in overhead music is also fun. The staff was friendly and helpful. The mongrel was amazing. The sautéed onions, peppers, sauerkraut along with the meat sauce, relish, ketchup, mustard and melted cheese, enhanced the beef hotdog. The sweet potato fries were cooked to perfection. I knew i had to have the junkyard dog plate when i saw it on the menu. The two dog plate was the way to go with everything. I added a bit more yellow mustard and it was perfect. The food is so good. I'm usually torn between the plate (cheeseburger, with everything) and the Fido Castro and a side of onion rings. We come from Buffalo just to get our fill, we had to go someplace else today since they are closed on Sunday and let me tell you- it did not even come close- the homefries were bland the the mac salad was flavorless and soupy. This place rocks. It really is that unique dining experience that you see examples of on TV. Everything on the menu is tasty. It's a little hot dog joint tucked away on Monroe. Some of my favorites are the Poi, the Boston terrier, and the junkyard dog. I've seen people posting about the plates, Rochester plate. They do offer those, and they are very good, but I think the real star of the show is the specialty dog menu, hence the name, dog town. You have a choice of what type of dog you want as well, red, white, or all beef. Oh, and if you're vegan, they have a whole separate menu for that, pretty extensive. read more

Haven't had one in ages but this is definitely better than what I remembered of Henrietta Hots and on par with Empire Hots. Grad weekend for U of R I figured it would be so busy and it was. We timed it just right ordered at the counter found a seat. Shortly after the plates arrived one cheeseburger one hotdog. The home fries were crispy, Mac salad awesome meat sauce was banging! The whole plate insanely delicious! I've been to a few other places but this tiny place was the best I've ever had! This was the first time here and definitely not the last time. This place is definitely fun. Fun to go to, fun inside, a fun staff and fun food. My friend told me about this hotdog shack. What a fun spot to get quick food with friends or family. We came here on a Friday night with a large group and were able to get a table. We are dog lovers and loved looking at all of the pictures of dogs all over. The food options were great (good and affordable kids meal as well) and we loved the fun names. Dog town is such a solid Rochester garbage plate joint. I can always count on getting a good hot dog here. The bread they use for their hot dogs is oh so good. Onion rings were great. I don't have any pics of the millions of plates I've gotten from here over the years but they are my fav plate.
