Cute place with reasonable prices. The outdoor seating is okay, nothing fancy. I mostly come here for the convenience, price, and the pistachio ice cream. It's the best flavor I've tried so far.

It was our first time and we stopped by after lunch at Johnny's Reef. We read on this dessert place I am article online about its local charm. The service was really great and I got two scoops of coffee fudge ice cream, which came out to around $4.75. My son got the birthday flavor which unfortunately he said was too sweet. All in all, good local place and a must try for passers. There is a eating seating area.

Cute little ice cream shop right in the middle of the city island strip. The people who live next door own it. They have different ice cream flavors and for a really cheap price. This place reminds me of the 1950s lol. It's so cute and they play a nice little playlist from back in the day. They have outdoor seating available as well. Though there are other ice cream spots in City Island, none have the uniqueness that Lickety Split has. Seems like Lickety Split has kept their doors opened for ages with different ownership. But most recently, Louise has kept it in control for the last 11 years. It's an old-fashioned 'home' exterior decor, with white tables and cotton candy-color cushion chairs. Interior is very confined. At most, a few people can move comfortably. I remember quite well, the many times I'd come here and had to stop for ice cream. And coming here brought nostalgia. But sadly, their ice cream is not proprietary to Lickety Split. It's Breyer's...and there was nothing artisanal or truly satisfying, except that it's locally owned and a staple here. That's it. (Lickety, doesn't have the physical space to make their own ice cream). With its history, the only thing I wanted to do was enjoy a lazy summer evening with my chocolate ice cream cone, instead I was bored.

Cutest ice cream joint ever! You can't beat the charm of the tiny house that serves ice cream. I've been a customer for years ever since my dad started his City Island bus route. The ice cream is oh so yummy and sitting outside on heart shaped chairs in their pretty little garden just screams a thousand Instagram photos. This is definitely a place worth a visit.

I was walking down City Island Avenue and noticed this place right away. This small wooden old fashioned ice cream shack has a cool exterior. It is $2.00 for a kiddie size portion or $2.75 for a small portion. I opted for a small, which was a good portion. However, the ice cream itself is just Breyer's ice cream - the same stuff you can find in a grocery. There is not a big variety of flavors either. However, it is okay to stop by to enjoy the charm if anything.

4 stars for charming. I only got italian ice so can't speak about their ice cream, but this place is cute and photogenic. If visiting city island and craving ice cream, skip the baskin robbins/dunkin donuts if you know what's good for you, and go here instead. read more

We stopped here after walking around City Island and enjoying a great seafood dinner. The place is very small but cute. There were children playing with hula hoops and drawing with colored chalk- hopscotch grids on the ground, while enjoying large portions of ice cream or gelato. I thought the fun house mirror that makes you look so long and lean near the door was a hoot. Makes you laugh and forget that maybe such a big portion of ice cream is not the best for a middle aged person...liked the Rum Raisin and the oldies music. This place is cute. I like the fact that they only have outdoor seating and they operate in essentially a shack. Although, one thing that was a little unfortunate was that they sold pre-made ice cream along with their homemade ones. They had a few flavors that they make themselves (i.e. Red Velvet and Birthday Bash) but I saw they sold a few Dreyers ice cream. The usual ice cream was meh but their homemade ones are way too sweet! It's overwhelmingly sweet actually. It makes it a bit hard to eat. One positive thing about it is that they give incredibly generous portions! I mean huge potions. But I think that's a reoccurring theme in City Island. Overall, it was a nice experience in Lickety Split but I really wish they upped their ice cream quality a little bit more. It's an adorable place and it should be recognized a lot more but I feel that it's lacking the attention due to the subpar ice cream. Either way, it's a nice experience to have. read more

In the most charming stretch of City Island Avenue, this shop offers a varied assortment of ice cream, shakes and floats, in a sort of 1950s time capsule. When I biked by on Saturday I felt I had to sit at one of their tables and watch the world stand still for a few moments. read more

Came here last night and had a wonderful experience. The ice cream shop is right on the main drag, but tucked back alittle with plenty of seating out front, cute chalk art on the floor of ice cream cone people. The ice cream was tasty, and cheap prices! Eat it quick though it was quick to melt. Most importantly, grounds were clean, no sticky spots, garbage or ants anywhere. I don't see the big deal about this place. People post that you have to visit this place while in City Island. They serve Breyers ice cream. Not homemade. Plus the ice cream freezer was dirty. It could have easily been wiped down between customers. The employee was standing around when we walked in. My husband got the brownie sundae that was fine. I shared it with him. I understand people post about how great this place is because they've been coming here since they were a kid but it's nothing special for a new customer. read more

The ice cream was great but the service was outrageously bad. We showed up 15 minutes before closing and as we were waiting to be served (with only 3 of us and one other girl in the shop), our group was skipped. It had been very clear that we had been waiting patiently. We did not say anything and continued to wait. As we were, they turned out all of the lights in the small shop. Finally, when we were served, the woman was very rude and charged 4.10 for a small cone of soft serve. Although I live on the island and it would be convenient to go back, I will not be returning. read more

Every time I go to City Island I always go to Lickety Split and have the delicious ice cream. The place is cute and adore able. The staff is very friendly and polite! Also, when another customer was showing my mom how to use the machine, she licked her fingers and then placed them on the same lever that other customers have to touch. That was disgusting. People are licking froyo off their fingers and then touching levers and spoon handles, so keep that in mind when you come to these types of places.
