It seems like multiple hairdressers here have individual Yelp pages, so the salon might just be a venue to host their services (?). Given the current COVID situation, Martha's salon enforces mask wearing and social distancing between clients. I definitely felt more reassured that safety measures were in place. Apparently San Mateo county has permitted hair salons to open for the past month, but I think most folks aren't aware of this... I felt like I stumbled upon a secret. My haircut was $75, but so worth it. Martha's professionalism and attention to detail is impeccable. Though my hair was so overgrown I couldn't recall the last time I cut it (maybe... a full calendar year ago... it's a mystery), she hacked through the mess and pared it down to the most silky, feathery layers within the hour. I asked for a rounded haircut with lots of layers and face-framing pieces and I showed her my inspo photos as well. She first washed my hair and then got started on the cut. Yessenia did an amazing job! She was friendly and professional and gave me exactly what I requested. I wasn't sure whether to go with lighter or heavier curtain bangs/face-framing pieces, and she knew exactly what would suit me when she suggested sticking with lighter face framing. She also somehow managed to style my frizzy Indian hair perfectly without using much tension on the brush, which was shocking to me.
