For serious, Saturday mid morning and all the self checkouts were closed and only one register open with a line down the produce aisle. We all felt horrible for her. Manager walking around aimlessly. At the very least help work another register for relief. If the self checkout was broken, that's one thing. But to leave one lady dangling in the breeze is just bad management. I stopped shopping here two years ago for several reasons. First of all you can't do your weekly grocery shopping at Lidl, because they sell a limited amount of groceries. All the years I shopped at Lidl and I never walked out of this grocery store with more than three items. The other reason I stopped shopping here, is because the last time I went to the Center Moriches store there were no cash registers open. This particular Lidl may have self check out aisles, however all the self check out aisles are credit card only. I don't see the point of using my credit card to pay for a measly three items. They should just shut this Lidl down already and replace it with a Trader Joe's. There's no reason to keep this Lidl open when there's another Lidl ten minutes away in Shirley. read more

Okay, Lidl. I want to pronounce you correctly. Little? Leedle? Lydil? I've heard it's the middle one, but in the end, I don't entirely care about your name as long as you continue to provide some pretty decent supermarket selections and prices. I took my first trip to a Lidl location last week (Center Moriches, hence the review placement) with my GF and her sis and we were relatively pleased with the results. What I'm not so pleased about is knowing one day sooner than later that my dear local Best Market will be transformed into a Lidl. The two stores are (dare I say drastically) different and I'm going to miss the wonderful produce selection and overall pricing that Best has supplied through the years. Having said that, I don't want to start off on the wrong foot with Lidl, so this trip helped in getting me prepared for what they're all about. Honestly, if you've been to an Aldi store it's not far off from that. Lidl is a little (pronunciation?) more advanced than Aldi with their bakery setup and what seemed to be a slightly stronger supermarket feel. Lidl carries a large portion of their own name brand products and knowing this can make things both exciting and (probably a little) annoying. Often, you go to Shoprite or Stop & Shop and have the pick of name brand products. At Lidl, it'll most likely be their brand and maybe one or two others. So therein lies the problem some may face with this place in that you probably (definitely) can't do all of your shopping here. Though some may solely frequent Trader Joe's for their food purchases, I'd chalk Lidl up to those (like me) who use Trader's for the fun and unique items you may only find there. Going in with that mentality can showcase what Lidl has to offer. With that in mind, our trio went up and down the aisles, gathering some intriguing goods that were mostly specific to Lidl. Bottled iced teas, marinades, canned soups, chips, cheeses, barbecue sauces, salsas, and a few other random edible things. Lidl does have a section of products for the household and even to wear (sandals and backpacks to name a few), but we didn't venture in that purchase direction. If I stopped there, it wouldn't make a lot of sense. I mean how can I review a supermarket specializing in their own brand of stuffs without actually trying out the goods? A week later gave us the opportunity to dive into a bunch of what we bought. Nothing could be reported as "bad" as everything either tasted great (iced raspberry white tea, jerk chicken marinade, sharp cheddar cheese) or good (Nashville hot bbq sauce, salami and pepperoni sticks). This bodes well for future trips, especially when Lidl starts popping up closer to home. Overall, the Center Moriches Lidl was pretty impressive for what it is (which would be a unique supermarket store that can be included in your everyday food shopping, but probably won't fit all of your needs). Respectable prices and friendly staff were also check marks in the positive column so whether you know how to pronounce this place or not, give em a try and see if you like Lidl. read more

While driving east on Montauk Hwy a Lidl appears and has replaced a long time independent grocer. Same story going on across the island. The building had been empty a long time and Lidl swoops in with European style groceries and a few other items. Low prices and discount style food. Gorgeous red grapes. Tasted one. So fresh and crisp. But then read warning Sulphur Dioxide. Ok so the more of a discount the place is, the longer the shelf life needed. So I put them back. Couldn't taste the preservative but can't do that. Ok so got some basic oranges, no name Raisin Bran and a few just baked croissants just because. This blue collar demographic had swarmed the place and music was playing and people were smiling. One lady bopping to the music. So this must be the way Lidl works all over the world. Greatly appreciated in here by the people here. Nothing like the quasi empty new store in Plainview where the customer is tough, finicky, spoiled with Fairway, Johns, Trader Joe's, five great bagel places and a nearby Ivarrone Brothers in Woodbury. So here is in contrast to Plainview is the opposite in Center Moriches - a big demand for this discount grocer. read more

Came here for the grand opening-what a beautiful store! Despite the awful weather, everything seemed very organized and the staff was very nice. The assistant manager Greg was extremely friendly and went out of his way to help. Everything was clean and the prices are great! They don't have as large of a variety as a stop & shop but they do have unique items that you wouldn't find at a larger chain, for example the mushroom, kale and goat cheese flatbread was out of this world! My wife and I love this store! Great produce including massive Heirloom tomatoes, baked sourdough bread, NY style pickles and wonderful honey goat cheese to name a few. Purified water at $1.49 a case. But the best part is the prices. Three full bags of groceries for $45! Try that at King Kullen why dont'cha? Recommend all day long! read more

I have been shopping at this location for about a year now. I think it's well organized and the staff are friendly. However, there is a problem with keeping things in supply. I love the experience, especially because they have the quick self check out always open. But!!!! The are usually out of stock on at least 10% of the items for sale, starting on Wed. My wife went to this store with my toddler everything was fine till check out. Some entitled women had bananas and ice cream. She did not want to go to self check out. She asked my wife if she could cut in front of her and my wife said no my toddler was screaming at this point she just wanted to get out of the store. The women then asks the cashier can't you just take me before her. My wife said just wait or go to self check out. End of it my wife gets done your cashier says I'm sorry she didn't let me take you. If this women was in a hurry she could have gone to the self check out. Your employee had no business saying anything but keeping there mouth shut. We Won't be going back. read more

Ok, so I tried Lidl again after seeing so many good reviews. Yes it is not a German store but a German company. I deceided to cave in and go again. The positive thing about Lidl are the products from Utz international. There are a lot of products that don't have added dyes and preservatives the American companys like to use. Several products are High Fructose corn syrup free. I have to admit the spices are great. They sell international spices you can't get at American supermarkets. read more

I still prefer Aldi, but it was nice to visit a new store that's only been open for 2 weeks. I'm not big on baked goods but their bakery looked promising. Almost bought sourdough but was told they couldn't slice it for me, so I put it back. I think management needs to be more aware of their shoppers though. I was randomly approached by an old man who smelled like he hasn't showered since the last election. He started telling me his strong political opinions. I told him I disagreed and kept walking. So he started yelling at me. Definitely won't be driving an hour round-trip to go back. But if you live locally, it's worth checking out, I guess. read more

I'm a fan of Aldi and Trader Joe's and was curious how LIDL would compare. I'm turned off by the variety of junk in the average supermarket ( 50 kinds of Goldfish crackers) and try to eat healthy. This is a German chain, so you find imported biscuits (and jars of "beetroot") but I also saw Latino snacks, which shows they are trying to find their way in the American market. Fruit and veg are lovely, well arranged. They have "imperfect" produce sold at reduced prices in boxes which if not sold are donated. VERY NICE. Staff is super friendly and look happy to work there. Place is immaculate. Prices on some items identical to Aldi. I don't eat red meat or cold cuts but the poultry is clean and not previously frozen (!) Nice selection of candies and chocolate, non grocery items laid out in easily accessible bins. Lots of non GMO and organic items (again, this is a German chain and they won't sell what passes as food in America).And where else do you find escargots as a regular item in the seafood case? Only complaint is I wish the aisle signs were a bit larger.When LIDL replaces the Best Market in Shirley I'll go there. . read more

Granted this isn't what we are used to. There isnt 20 brands of everything that we spoiled Americans are used to. But the savings are worth getting acclimated for. There is a difference between inexpensive and cheap. This place is inexpensive. All the lidl brand items ive had have been great. The staff is super friendly. The produce fresh and nice. The meat, specifically the organic grass fed steak are impeccable. I love the bakery as well. The cold cuts are as good as boars head. You may not be able to get every single thing you need here but in my opinion no store offers that. The things you DO get here will be good quality and less expensive than anywhere else. So disappointed in the mission of Lidl, soon to be everyone on the South Shore's local market. No deli counter. No butcher. No bakery. No fish department. This means everything being sold in these departments is either processed, frozen or regulated by corporate protocols, and certainly not personalized, fresh or healthy. Fresh food is healthy food. Frozen and processed food contains lots of salt, preservatives and chemicals. Lidl is not considering the well being of the communities it serves. read more

If you haven't tried this store then go! Large selection and name brands at a low cost . 1 dozen jumbo eggs $1.08 compared to $4.75 at shop and stop. Meats and vegetables are all fresh and the staff is cheery and helpful unlike the staff at most grocery stores who don't want to be there and let you know by their attitude I went shopping here yesterday and bought a lot of items. $31 dollars. If I went to stop n shop I guarantee it would be almost $80. Store is clean and there is someone waiting at entrance to wipe down your cart. Our new favorite store. read more
