Their vibe is cheerful, displayed in various shoppers' decorum. I have been coming since 2002 and there is always a steady flow of shoppers, and you will find workers replenishing stock in the midst of shopping. I stopped in today for items to make a salad. I do make a mean salad if I must admit. Although I did not find herring in the can, nor did I find mackerel, I did find trout in the can. something new to add to my palate. I walk out of Trader Joes with only spending $24.97. I call this a successful shopping day. Inspire more, Yelp more!

I'm probably persona non grata due to my all too truthful review of another of their stores This Foodtown is a generally pleasant experience with decent management and courteous staff. The food is fresh and there's a variety of choices although many items no longer can be found since they remodeled the store. As a petite person, it is difficult to remove items from the frozen food compartments or in the aisles. I generally need to ask for help. They also have health and hygiene items which is helpful. There are some good buys at times but unfortunately inflation has caused prices to rise. I'd shop there more often but for me it is not within walking distance. This Foodtown has always been a bit expensive. The ambiance is nice with neat aisles that are easy to navigate with a cart and it's very clean.

Yep, even tho I live nearby. Its sort a like a maze, hence, I think there was a movie called "Lost in Yonkers" :P Anyway, this is just exactly the perfect little grocery store for me! I have been there twice now, one time recently (because I was able to find it again) and it's great for the basics and even some things I have not seen elsewhere. The prices are fair, for the most part. Lets face it, food prices are NOT fair in general in the last several years, but the first time I went to this location, which was probably 2 years ago, the prices were fair back then. So I will call it consistent! The staff is friendly. I couldnt reach something on a top shelf that was on sale, there was someone immediately ready to grab it for me. The deli dept stocks pre-made fresh salads & I think sandwiches too, although I was not looking for that at the time so dont quote me... The freezer section is large for a smaller version of this chain store. I saw some frozen pizzas that ive never even heard of. And I always stock up on frozen broccoli to include when making pasta, they had more brands including organic, than I have seen in huge stores. The fresh fruit and veggie area is well stocked. There was not any sort of line for checkout, plenty of street parking with regular meters (bring quarters!) and some other shops right there for anything else u might need. Im almost reluctant to post this because I dont want to go back next time to NOT get a parking spot! But basically, this "Express" Foodtown is exactly that, but better. Diamond in the rough. One more thing, I have only gone in the mid afternoon both times, so I do not know the hours. But as News 12 would say, " as local as local gets!" Mom & Pop shops on this street to the max!

The store seems to be focusing more on expensive organic products, but unfortunately the quality control on some of the cheeses has gone down. I've purchased several cheeses here recently that tasted over-aged and strongly ammoniated. Properly aged European cheeses should have complex, nutty, earthy flavors -- not a harsh ammonia taste or smell. This has happened multiple times now. One of the biggest issues is that everything is prepackaged in plastic, so you cannot properly smell or assess the cheese before buying it. You only discover the problem once you get home and open the package. A good cheese counter should allow customers to smell or sample cheeses, especially imported and aged varieties.

You can say the fruit and vegetables (what they have) look okay or fresh enough...but unfortunately when you get home and are ready to eat and prepare the produce, it's on the old side and not fresh at all. I've had to throw away certain produce because they weren't in good shape. The apples seem to look okay...but when ya get home and you bite into them, they're brown and mushy. Just a waste of money. I/We have purchased dairy products in the past such as eggs, milk and yogurt and have had to return the items because they were either old and/or spoiled. Perhaps they have a refrigeration problem or the thermostat is kept way too low?? Just no good. We've noticed that many items on the shelves are on the older side and are outdated. Ketchup, mustard, honey and cookies to name a few. The store did not seem to be very clean the last time I stopped in. The floors were sticky and the merchandise on the shelves were very dusty. I came in to return a gallon of milk which was spoiled and the cashier was very nasty and rude to me because I did not have a receipt...meanwhile she was the one who rang me up the day before. She gave me my money back...but gave me a very hard time for no reason. This is no way to treat customers and to run a business. No way!! Normally a person could just let this go...but this is not the first time. It's happened several times. The little one (cashier) in particular has a rotten attitude. They have a coffee station and a deli counter with cold cuts or where you can grab breakfast or a sandwich to go. In short, all of your standards and more, with a slight emphasis on Eastern Europe/Mediterranean fare--different for this neighborhood that tends to skew Irish, but not unwelcome.
