No option for half stars, but this was a mixed experience. Had dinner at Life After on Valentine's Day with the preset menu and overall the evening felt a bit rushed. The ceviche had good flavor but needed more lime/juice as it was on the drier side and served with plantains, which made it difficult to scoop since there wasn't enough liquid. It also lacked that fresh citrus punch and almost tasted like it had been prepared earlier and dried out. There was a slightly creamy base as well, but it didn't taste like the fish had been marinating in it. As someone who is part Peruvian and grew up with traditional ceviche, the preparation was off. The kale salad was unfortunately very salty. I took a couple bites just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, but it was consistently over-seasoned. Service was attentive but moved very quickly. I understand the two-hour Valentine's dinner service window, but we hadn't even finished our first cocktail before the meal felt like it was being pushed along. I also noticed the bartender coughing frequently while working, which was concerning... especially post-COVID when people are more sensitive to hygiene in food service environments. The atmosphere itself is beautiful and the concept is great. However, the "live band" advertised ended up being a drummer and a DJ rather than a full live band, which was a bit disappointing. For the price point, the food quality and pacing needs a little tightening if they want to keep the kind of crowd that is willing to spend there. Went for karaoke brunch and I do wish the lyrics were on the wall somewhere. But overall brunch was a vibe. They had the drinks flowing and the Jams going. I need to start with dessert because I think about it to this day! The sweet potato cheesecake is AMAZING!!!!! The best thing I've ever had! The chilaquiles were still crunchy which I love. The flavors all went so well Together that I'm drooling as I write this.

Food was great I had the fiesta fiesta which was chilaquiles and oxtail ... there was also choice of getting it with chicken. Overall this meal was tasty and filling! Well cooked and seasoned . The sweet potato cheesecake was surprisingly amazing! It was so good although at first I was concerned if I would enjoy it I was pleasantly surprised! Service was good it was pass the mic brunch so many people were singing the vibes were good. It was a bit loud to have easy conversation none the less everyone was friendly.

Celebrated my birthday here 2 nights in a row! The ambiance is stunning! Food was absolutely delicious. The staff were attentive; service was on point. The live DJ played all the throwback jams (hip hop and R&B). Perfect place for a date night or for a ladies night. I can't wait to go back when the weather gets warmer. The outside deck with the city skyline view is amazing!

We had dinner and drinks here and it was an amazing experience. The food was delicious, fresh and presentation was on point. The vibes and music were my favorite part. Definitely worth visiting. We will be back for brunch!

My first time going to Life After was a for a birthday dinner party. I took a star away because our server greeted us and told us the food items that they didn't have. There were a quite a few items off the menu. So, I asked for the items they did have. I ordered an entree. The food was delish, shrimp and grits. The ambiance was nicely decorated with a music motif. It is a beautiful space for pictures.

Came here with a friend after she attended their soft openings a couple of weeks ago. We made reservations since it was for a Friday night dinner. Be careful to look for signage off coming off the road as you may miss the sign. There is complimentary valet parking which is needed because most of the parking is reserved for the residents. Upon entrance, we came up some stairs from the parking garage. There's a neon sign with greenery for a good photo op. Once up the stairs, you walk towards the door and the ceiling is full of flowers and foliage.....another great photo op. We entered and was quickly escorted to your table. Walking into this place was breathtaking. It was dimly lit but still bright enough. There's several sections in this place, longer tables, smaller tables, bar, sitting area (another great photo op). This place seems to be dedicated to 90s, 2000s hip hop. Even the menu items are names after classic hip hop albums. Theres a large wall with all classic award-winning albums. This place is really nice and upscale, with great hip hop and R&B coming through the speakers to complete the vibe. Food and Drinks - We ordered a Shawn Carterita (margarita) and prosecco for drinks. The margarita was about $18. A tad bit steep, but given the location (Edgewater, it may be on par). For food, we ordered the ATLiens Shrimp and Grits. It came with collard greens which was sooo good. The grits was creamy and definitely was made with creamed coconut. This place is beautiful. Definitely a perfect venue for date night, girls night or birthdays. I will definitely be back to try other dishes and perhaps brunch. Our waiter Sha was so attentive and accommodating. The male owner was down to earth and very nice. They will have open a rooftop area, so I will be back for that.

On a rainy Saturday evening, while scrolling for something new to try in Hudson County, I stumbled upon 'Life After' In Edgewater. From the photos alone, it looked like a vibey urban lounge with a heavy focus on old hip-hop and R&B -- right up my alley. So, my date and I decided to check it out. The lounge is located in a residential building, which threw us off a little at first, especially with a security guard posted out front with a bulletproof vest-- but they also offer complimentary valet, which was a nice touch. We grabbed seats at the bar since my date was very invested in catching the college basketball game. Shoutout to Bryan, the bartender, who not only changed the TV for us without hesitation but played cable guy the whole night when the TV was freezing. For cocktails my date ordered the Ol' Dirty Bastard (a nod to the Wu-Tang legend), and I chose the Gin & Juice (of course, shoutout to Snoop). I found mine a little too sweet, but Bryan made up for it by helping me switch to a custom lemon drop martini with bourbon -- way more my speed. He even let us sample a small espresso martini variation, which was such a thoughtful touch. We ordered a few dishes to share -- our go-to style -- but there was a private party of 60 people in the next room, and the bar area got a little chaotic. We waited around 40 minutes for our food, but again, Bryan checked in with the kitchen multiple times and kept us in the loop. His attentiveness didn't go unnoticed! Here's the breakdown of the food: Mood Muzik Mediterranean Meatballs - $23 Lamb and beef meatballs, perfectly seasoned with a nice kick. The chef definitely isn't afraid of flavor. 8/10 Crabbin' Like It's Hot - $24 Two meaty, pan-seared lump crab cakes served with a fresh heirloom tomato salad and lemon vinaigrette. I'm picky about my crab cakes -- and these did not disappoint. 9/10 Still Not A Playa Lobster Pasta - $38 This was the only miss of the night. The menu described it as lobster pasta tossed in a creamy garlic sauce with heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, and cracked black pepper -- but what we got lacked most of that. The lobster was generously portioned, but the sauce was extremely bland. No garlic, no cracked pepper, and no tomatoes in sight. We had to ask for salt and pepper just to give it some flavor. 6/10 The décor is sleek, moody, and modern -- perfect for a night out with someone who appreciates old-school jams. The crowd was chill, the staff was friendly, and overall, the energy was on point. I'd absolutely come back -- just not for the lobster pasta. If you're looking for a spot to bring a crew that loves hip-hop and R&B... Life After has potential!

I had such an amazing experience at Life After Restaurant and Lounge! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was everything. perfect for a night out with friends or even a date night with your significant other. The atmosphere is grown, sexy, and just the right mix of fun and upscale. The service truly stood out. The staff made sure we were well taken care of all night, checking in at the perfect times and making great recommendations. You can tell they really care about the experience they provide. The food and drinks were just as impressive everything we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and came out in a timely manner. The drinks were also top tier with a great variety to choose from. Overall, it was such a great night and I'm already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place with great vibes, amazing service, and a memorable experience

Celebrated my birthday at Life After with a party of 9 and had an amazing time. We started with Wu Wings, arepas, and fried calamari -- all delicious. I ordered the Welcome to Jamrock Jerk Chicken and loved it. The live DJ and music created a great atmosphere, and the staff made the night extra special by singing happy birthday to me and my friend. Highly recommend for celebrations!

Had a great time at Life After on Saturday night. I had the fried shrimp appetizer which was good. The linguine with lobster was great and I was pleasantly suprised there was a generous amount of lobster. The cocktails were also very good - I had lemon drop martinis. The DJ was great and was playing a nice mix of music. Our server was friendly and attentive and the whole place had a nice vibe. The free valet parking is a nice touch too. I hope to go back on Oct 1 for R&B Bingo night - sounds fun!!

The girls and I went to this restaurant for happy hour. When I arrived they had assigned parking for the restaurant in the garage. I walked into the cutest restaurant! I was sat and indulged in the happy hour deals. I enjoyed the vodka martini and wine! My friends enjoyed the oysters and wings! All in all I had a great experience!

Let me be clear, the main redeeming aspect of this place is the talent on stage. The musicians were exceptional and deserved far better than the environment surrounding them. I ordered a scotch neat, something I'm very familiar with, and immediately knew something was off. When I politely flagged down a waiter, he responded with visible annoyance, as if I was inconveniencing him by being a paying customer. I explained the issue and simply asked if it could be checked or replaced. Instead of addressing it professionally, he walked away without a word, returned holding the bottle and my glass, and said, "this is what you were poured," before carelessly tossing the drink back onto the table. No apology. No explanation. Just attitude. It escalated from there. When I confronted him about his behavior, he denied it outright and then doubled down with an aggressive, confrontational stance, getting in my face and effectively threatening me. His exact words? "If I tossed your drink on the table, it would have been all over you!", and "Man, shut yo ass!" Completely unprofessional and unacceptable in any setting, let alone an establishment that positions itself as upscale. The manager's response was just as disappointing. Instead of addressing the behavior of his staff, he blamed me, asking why I "chased" the waiter and suggesting I should have gone directly to him. That's not how basic customer service works. I tried to resolve the issue directly, respectfully, and without escalation, something his employee clearly had no interest in. I was thinking if I talk to the waiter first, he wouldn't get in trouble with his manager. To make matters worse, the manager continued to defend the waiter rather than de-escalate the situation. At that point, it was clear this wasn't a one-off issue; it's a reflection of how this place operates. I paid my bill and left. For a venue that attracts world-class jazz talent, it's astonishing how low the standard of service is. This place is doing a disservice to the artists who perform there. I will never return, and I would strongly caution anyone expecting a professional, respectful experience to look elsewhere.

Anyways, I typically don't believe when people say something is close so whenever I visit her we just order in delivery rather than motivate (ie put on a bra) and go out. But dang it this is literally. Right. Next. Door. As in I can sit on the deck outside of the restaurant and look in her living room. Smh. I say all that to say IVE BEEN MISSING OUT!! Her bday was this weekend so she booked a large table for family and friends. I was relieved to see they had valet. Parking is atrocious in this development so to only pay $10 to be 10 feet from the door was awesome. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the staff know her well and treated her as a valued guest. Here's the rundown: We went for BRUNCH. They have a prix fixe for $41 of most of the brunch items and it includes 2 Bellini, 2 mimosas, or 2 Bloody Marys. Good right? Welp what you don't know is that their cocktail menu is incredible so to heck with the prix fixe. We got mimosas at home!! Between the 10 of us we got cocktails, appetizers, entrees, desserts, coffee. Highlights: -Service was spectacular. Wesley was On It! By the time we finished eating there was another party of 10+ seated right behind us that he was servicing. I hope he enjoys the reward$ of his hard work! Make it rain on em Wesley! -Fat friendly seating. No arms, solid chairs, comfortable cushions. We were there for 4 hours and my booty was never sore. -Food. We tore it up and it was all delicious. My half of the table had the farm house breakfast sando, the fried chicken sando, French omelette, huevo rancheros. We shared the crab hush puppies, wings, calamari, goat cheese salad, and blueberry pancakes. I was nosey and saw that some of my other table mates ordered the skirt steak and eggs and the short rib. -Drinks. I know my husband loves mango so I suggested he get the smoked mango drink. I didn't know it came with theatrics. Dinner and a show?! Btw by the time our table was done almost everyone had ordered one. Lychee martini, Paloma, old fashioned, midnight espresso. Also all very good! -The View. Our party was too large to sit outside but we did sit right at the floor to ceiling windows. In between birthday wishes and food comas we watched the boats, jet skis, and undulating waves of the Hudson. Previous posters are correct - the place is pricey. But high key the people who live in that area are already paying a premium for everything else sooooo. Now, I DONT live in that area lmao so this will be a rarer treat for me. But I was happy to celebrate my cousin's birthday in a place that she loves. Awesome experience - I look forward to returning! 10/10 would put on a bra for this and walk downstairs lol

The calamari was probably the thinnest squid in the ocean and looked like shoestring fries, but the sauce it came in was delicious. There were approximately three zucchini sticks and four peppers in the calamari, which is on par with many restaurants, but less bang for your buck. Last night (May 20), there were around 20-25 people in the bar between the tables and bar seats, and a single bartender was expected to do everything: make drinks, take orders, deliver cocktails to tables, clear space at the bar, all of it. Unsurprisingly, service moved at a glacial pace. My date and I were seated when we arrived and after waiting 30 minutes without anyone coming over, I finally had to walk up to the bar and order my own drink. It was deeply uncomfortable and unprofessional. Management charging $25 per cocktail while refusing to properly staff the place is ridiculous. If you're going to price drinks like a luxury lounge, at least operate like one. MEMO TO MANAGEMENT - stop being cheap and hire another bartender. Your customers are paying enough to deserve basic service.
