Came solo on a Friday night to catch the end of a World Cup game and had a great time. Jennifer was a very attentive server, gave suggestions, and checked in to see if I needed anything at the right times. Great service from the hookah guy too. DJ played a blend of hip hop and dembow - great selection. 5 stars for the atmosphere alone - I love the decor. Came back for another game with my friend and she was my server again. Great service once again, the wings and truffle fries were good, drinks were phenomenal. City Coffee & Bar will definitely be my go to place for hookah & drinks in the area. They were doing well but greed got the best of them. NBA Monday game night Happy Hour was until 8, and even after we ordered all of our food and drink before then besides one appetizer which we ordered after. All but one round of drinks were at the happy hour price and each drink was now $20. It's odd because the food happy hour orders didn't go up but the drinks did? Either way, we didn't agree with the bill and after some discussion with the bartender, it was lowered but they tacked on an automatic gratuity (I guess as a way to compensate) but it was only two of us, so that should have never happened, especially since gratuity is optional. This experience honestly ruined the vibe and our willingness to come back again. It's really a shame because we looked forward to Monday happy hour because getting good drinks at that price is rare in the city and is a nice gem when it happens. I understand the desire to cash in on events like this, but your originality and integrity is what keeps customers and return customers. I'm sorry but I don't think I'll be back, even though it's a nice establishment. This experience was just too sour. read more

Jennifer is the best server. Each time we are here she is attentive and proactive. She's always checking in on us and making sure our group is good. Constantly clearing our table to make sure it is not cluttered. When it comes to hookah, Nash is the hookah guru. My husband and I tell him what we want and always comes through with the best. Very disappointing experience. I went to this restaurant with a group of eight people, and from the moment we arrived, we felt like we were treated terribly. Our group consisted of people of color, including Hispanic guests, and it honestly felt like we were being ignored. The waiter repeatedly walked past our table without acknowledging us, and we waited at least 20 minutes before he finally came over. When he did, his attitude was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. The level of customer service we received was unacceptable and made us feel unwelcome. No one should be treated this way when dining out. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

Jennifer was our server, and she was absolutely amazing. She was professional, attentive, sweet, and maintained a very upbeat attitude throughout our visit. Her fun personality made the experience even more enjoyable. She also prepared the hookah, and it was some of the best hookah I've had in a long time. I stopped by here as I was waiting to check in my hostel. The cafe is near Columbia University, and it looks like a good spot to study. There were a lot of outlets that you can charge your phone or laptop. I got their fine herb omelette which was super yummy. I love goat cheese and how it complimented the egg. I had this with a vanilla latte (I also loved the coffee art). The staff were also very nice and the service was pretty fast. So glad we stumbled upon this place! They are great for both food and coffee. It's a very cozy environment too with super friendly staff. Their cappuccino is one of the best I've had on the UWS, with a flavorful roast and a perfect microfoam. For food, I had the Punta Cana breakfast plate. It came with fried cheese, sausage, eggs, mashed (savory) plantain, and pickled onions. It was so simple and yet so flavorful. A great hearty breakfast as the weather gets cooler. There's a great variety of food offered here from breakfast platters, to salads, to loaded fries and sliders and all the food I've had so far is really good! My go to is usually some loaded fries and an espresso martini at Happy Hour. It's a cafe by day and lounge at night and sometimes features a DJ on weekends. I am a regular who usually only order drinks from here like coffee in the morning to go. Yesterday morning when I went to the cashier and told the lady I would like a small iced latte with regular milk, she said ok and put in the order and motioned for me to pay. I noticed the tab was more than what I usually pay for my iced latte so I looked up on itemized items on the screen and the bottom said an extra charge for caramel flavoring. So I told the barista - hey I noticed you put an add on for caramel flavoring but I only wanted a regular iced latte. The lady then tried to argue with me and gave me the most disgusted facial expression with a nasty attitude. Keep in mind she has not even started making the drink yet, and I pointed out her mistake early. If she made the drink already I would've just called it a day. This is no way to treat a regular reoccurring customer for a mistake your employees made. Will not be returning. read more

City Coffee Bar is an Upper West Side gem One of my favorite cafes in the city and absolute favorite on the UWS. City Coffee has great coffee with an ever-expanding, appetizing menu spanning freshly baked pastries and cake, to chef-made dine-in options with full service. The cafe is spacious with extensive seating and has a whole power outlet-lined wall that has served me very well in extended study periods. They've now also extended their outdoor seating arrangement. One other awesome point -- they're open till 7pm! I'm a late studier and struggle to find good cafes study spots after 4/5pm, and City Coffee Bar perfectly bridges that gap. Management (Esmurlin and Johnny, in my humble opinion) are incredibly personable and friendly and imbue the space with their bubbly personalities. Couldn't recommend this place more. read more
