De Novo has an amazing view, incredible bread, and a chocolate brownie that is absolutely worth saving room for. The rest of the food is excellent as well, but I would take my entrée home so I can fully indulge in the bread and brownie--maybe with the shrimp appetizer, which is also amazing. The service is impeccable. I also hosted an event here, and the entire team did a fantastic job. Both the staff and management were attentive, professional, and wonderful to work with. We've always seen this place as we drove down river road so decided to give it a try for a weekday dinner. Grabbed a reservation and on arrival were taken to our seats. The lady helping us that night was friendly and even helped us make choices that was best for us which we appreciated. We ordered four different types of pasta and calamari to start. I'd say overall everything was good. The cheese based pasta was a bit heavy but the flavors were nice. Some of the wine prices were actually much better than other areas (especially when compared to the city). Cute intimate place that would be great for a date night. Came here after dark but feel like coming for brunch would be good as well to really get most of the view. I'd say definitely worth a visit. read more

Came here on a whim for date night with my girlfriend, with hopes of good food and great views. And we were not let down at all. I haven't been to a restaurant where everything was perfect in a very long time. We ordered rock shrimp tempura, which was absolutely delicious for our appetizer. I don't even eat shrimp and I ate that up. For our main dishes, we got the short rib entrée which was so delicious and came with polenta and brussels sprouts and it was so good. The next thing we ordered was pasta Bolognese. The pasta was fresh and the sauce was spectacular. We ordered their "fig cosmo"(not sure of the name but Emily our amazing waitress recommended it. Before that we ordered pornstar martini- a little on the sweet side, and I ordered mine without the Prosecco, to which our amazing waitress Emily, coined the term "topless pornstar martini," and I thought that was genius and the restaurant should add that haha! Emily was an amazing waitress- we left there loving her so much. She helped us make very hard menu decisions, she was a doll, and she made the experience even better. Look out for Emily, she's the best! What a great spot, overlooking the Hudson River and GWB. Valet parking takes the stress away from trying to find parking on these tight roads in Edgewater. Upon entering, Service staff were very friendly. It's an impressive space, with plenty of indoor and outdoor options, an indoor and outdoor bar, and a few cabanas outside if you want to enjoy some drinks in private overlooking NYC. We had two flatbreads to start - the fig and prosciutto and the sugar plum - both were good with super thin crust. The ladies tried the "porn star martini" and the fróse - they said both were good! I had the "elevated margarita"- it was ok. For entrees, we had the gnocchi, the zuppa de pesce, the strozzpretti and I ordered the sesame tuna. We all enjoyed our dishes and would say the kitchen's able to pull off this nice variety of different choices. After years of passing by DeNovo, finally I got a chance to reserve lunch spot for Mother's Day. From the very beginning I got to experience their incredible service that starts with complimentary valet parking. We went just when the restaurant opened, so we had no wait time, got to pick a table of our choice. I was so impressed with the interior. They had bar area, indoor dining area with view of Hudson, outdoor bar area, patio area, and outdoor regular dining space as well. Super clean, beautifully decorated with flowers, modern tableware. The menu had good variety of starters, flat breads, salad, pasta and entrees. We started with the octopus, perfectly grilled served on top of vegetables and chipotle aioli. For entree, we had the halibut, huge filet that was moist and soft. The skirt steak was excellent, had such good seasoning and flavor. The broccolis in the dish also tasted so good. Our final dish was the scallops risotto. Though we were sad to see scallops were tiny (we were expecting large ones) but the risotto was incredibly. Creamy cheesy, the perfect blend with quality rice. The virgin martini and moscato were excellent drinks. Our server was amazing. She was super friendly, kind and fun. She helped us taking some photos outside as well. Everyone in the restaurant was courteous and greeting everyone with smile. Our table was cleaned regularly for empty plates and they packed our take outs as well. Overall the service, the food and the restaurant itself, all were immaculate. We were here for Mother's Day lunch. It was absolutely wonderful. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was very attentive throughout the meal. The flowery decoration is definitely a nice touch on the occasion. On top of that, the river view made the dining experience another level. They have indoor/ outdoor tables, outdoor/indoor bars, and cabanas are available as well. We ordered octopus, halibut, skirt steak, scallops with risotto and kids pasta. All are very delicious. The skirt steak was my favorite. Very tender and packed with flavors. I didn't like that the scallops were small but the risotto was very buttery and creamy. Halibut was cook beautifully. My first time ordering one in Hoboken was so memorable that this one fell flat. It was lacking in flavor as to be expected. Overall I had a nice night. For a restaurant in a similar class this was average, but as a stand alone I would say it's pretty good if you look at the overall package. Let's get a few items out of the way before we begin; 1) This is not a pub in any respect of the word. 2) Valet parking only, and for good reason as the restaurant is located at the top of a very steep and busy road. In contrast to a low key public house for drinking an ale, De Novo is a modern, slightly garish, appearing restaurant with neon signs and sleek selfie inviting environment. The views of the Hudson and Manhattan beyond, are worthy of cityscape photo enthusiasts alone. Service teams are prompt without being rude or too pushy, at least on a early Sunday evening. Might be more assertive on a busy weeknight or Saturday evening. Menu options are not particularly fussy or complicated. Lasagne was nicely prepared and spinach not buttered or spoiled. Clam preparation was a little salty but its seafood and got away with it. Pricing was reasonable for the area but likely won't be back due to location. The casually dressed manager was busy without being intrusive, but could have introduced herself instead of randomly approaching tables and asking how their food was, and clearing dishes lol. read more

Oh no De Novo. What happened? We have always had a great experience here and Montclair but our meals yesterday afternoon really fell short. Mussels overcooked. Short Ribs way over done, polenta was clumpy. Burger was not seasoned at all. The skirt steak was tough. We had two older women with us and the music was loud and not appropriate for dining. We asked the waiter to turn it down and they said they can't. On the positive side the staff is very pleasant and attentive. Overall I had a solid first time at De Novo! I've heard a lot of good things, especially from my girlfriend, so she brought me to try it. We made sure to make a reservation because it does get busy on weekend nights. They have a valet which was nice. The space was HUGE. They had 3 different dining areas plus an outdoor patio. I love the modern decor with all the flowers. There were a lot of photo ops. We were greeted and sat immediately for our reservation. Our waiter was VERY nice and attentive. The service was good. For our drinks we tried the Frose and Lychee Chi Chi. They were both good but the star was the Frose so I ended up ordering it for my next round. My girlfriend raved about the Octopus so I decided to try it even though I'm not big on seafood and it was surprisingly good! The potatoes were also very delicious. I love Tuna Tartare so we ordered that too. The flavors were great but I'd definitely prefer more avocado because the tuna was strong and there was a lot of it. Finally for our entrees we both had pastas. I had the Rigatoni Beef Bolognese and she had the Creamy Chicken and Mushroom Rigatoni. We both enjoyed our meals. Visited De Novo on my birthday as I was sold by the views of NYC and menu options! First things first, it's valet parking only so make sure you have some cash handy to tip the staff. There is no where else to park so circling for street parking is not an option. Since my birthday landed on a Wednesday, the restaurant was busy but not uncomfortably busy. We were seated immediately with views of NYC to the left of us. It was the perfect seat. During the day I bet it's just as beautiful. They started us off with focaccia bread with cold marinara sauce? I always thought it was supposed to be warm but maybe it's not? We were confused but we still ate it haha. The focaccia was yummy. My birthday cocktail of choice was the La Hacienda (Patron, passion fruit, thyme, lime, St. Germain liquor). It was very tasty and strong! For a starter, I ordered the kale salad and I would definitely order it again, it was a good portion. As my entree, I had to order the eggplant parmigiana which was perfect with the creamy burrata! Just note that is does not come with pasta, you can ask for that on the side. The eggplant is pretty hefty so you could do without the pasta which I wish I did. The pasta tasted like it was frozen and reheated. My boyfriend ordered the cacio e pepe with a side of wings and my sister ordered the bucatini. A thumbs up for the wings and bucatini! Every time I had driven past De Novo, I had ranted about how badly I had wanted to go there. Despite hearing mixed feedback about their food, the one thing everyone could agree on was the place's ridiculous views, and I just had to see them for myself. Well, I finally made it there for a Friday evening dinner with friends. The restaurant was perched on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the George Washington Bridge and Hudson River. When you saw the place from its front view on River Road, it looked like a non-descript restaurant with valet parking. So, it provided little insight into just how gorgeous the place was otherwise. Once inside, it was like we were in a different building entirely. The place was modern, sleek, and full of Instagram-worthy flower garlands and other trendy vibes. There was an enclosed patio and bar with their own views through the large glass windows, but there was also a massive, fully outdoor patio with its own bar. We had the pleasure of sitting outside, where all of the tables were a good distance from each other, providing a really luxurious experience. From the hostess who escorted us to our table, to the waiter who patiently answered all of our calls for recommendations, to the front of the house crew that wished us well on our way out the door, the staff at De Novo was a delight! In addition, whoever came up with their extensive menu simply blew my mind. Whether you were looking at cocktails or salads or entrees, each section of the menu had a good number of evergreen items, as well as several specials. That made decision-making tough, but also allowed everyone to find at least one item that they found intriguing. We all started with drinks, and I went for the Spicy Mami first. The boozy margarita included Tanteo Habanero Tequila, shaken with pamplemousse, lime, and agave. It was served on the rocks with a chili salt rim, and it was honestly the spiciest drink I had ever had. The first sip startled me, but then I really warmed up to it....Or, rather, it warmed me up! As the night went on, I bounced around the menu, also trying the Summertime Madness and the Frozen Aperol Spritz. The "Madness" beverage was a crisp, refreshing blend of Grey Goose Watermelon Basil, makrut lime, lime juice, cucumber, and Fever Tree club soda, all served in a wine glass. It was basically a spritz of sorts, but was a bit sweeter than I would have liked. The Frozen Aperol drink was packed with Aperol, behind the typical amount I like, leaving it rather bitter. All of the drinks were decent, but the Spicy Mami was definitely my favorite. Before we ordered our food, the table received a basket of herbed focaccia bread with a marinara dip. The chunky tomato sauce was flavorful, but should have been served hot, rather than at room temperature. One of my friends and I decided to share the Steamed Mussels appetizer, not realizing just how large the bowl was going to be. There were soooo many mussels, but they were all great, and their white wine broth was perfect for dipping the accompanying thin french fries, which were a bit bland otherwise. At that point, I was rather full, but managed to finish my pan-seared Halibut in its lemon dill beurre blanc. The fish was cooked and seasoned to absolute perfection! It was topped with a few pomegranate seeds and some pistachios. It was also served with some braised kale, which I liked but found very salty...And, then, I bit into a piece that was covered in some sort of hard gritty bits, of what I think was sand or dirt. I got rid of those few kale leaves and left the rest, turned off from that incident. I did, however, try some of the other items on the table. The Sesame-Crusted Tuna was good, but needed much more soy sauce, while the Beef Bolognese on the Rigatoni was rich, hearty, and delicious. After all of the food, I was stuffed, but others at the table were hoping to share dessert, so I sampled the Flourless Chocolate Cake, which was essentially a block of fudge. Its decadent richness was tamed by the accompanying scoop of a Mint Gelato that was so fresh it almost resembled the flavor of a mojito. After our meal, we took pictures by the patio edge, laughing into the end of a fun evening with friends that was made that much better by De Novo's nice staff and stunning views. There might have been a few missteps with the food and drinks, but we would all still return. read more
