The staff is usually pleasant and unobtrusive once you sign up but are relentlessly aggressive until then. The club is nice and you rarely have towait for a cardio machine. The weight machine area is usually a bit too crowded and waiting for a machine is a frequent issue. There are only 2 rowing machines. Considering that membership fees have gone up consistently over the past 9 years, the fact that the weight machines have not been upgraded and expanded is disappointing. The outdoor pool area is great except there's some weird mom-drama going on with the regulars during the week. On weekends it gets quite crowded. The cafe is good but ridiculously over priced. The spa is fantastic. Overall it's become an increasingly bigger expense with no changes to warrant the price increases. There are more reasonably priced gyms with the same or better equipment and amenities. read more

This is one of my favorite gyms to workout and spend time. It is huge. Time flies when I am in there. I easily spend 3-4 hours daily here.

I'm completly upset about the fact that they have wasted my time and almost my entire month to go through the lifeguard course--required to become a swim insturctor. They are so quick to charge you for the course and they do not seem like they have interested to respond to your messages. I tried emailing the aquatics manager to see what was going on--she ignored my email and I ended up calling her. I find it unprofessional for them to not only mislead you to think that you have the job, but also wasted my time. You go through the course, etc to see if they are hiring or not. read more

I really like Life Time. When I went a few months without it, I missed it. It's especially nice to work out there late at night when nobody will bother you. A few things I have noticed specifically about this location: half of their showers are broken or dirty at any given time. The light fixtures in the locker rooms (especially around the showers) are missing screws. They don't dust on top of the locker banks. There is sometimes a lot of hair stuck to the clean towels when you unwrap them. Otherwise, I think Life Time does the best job of being a quality gym. Great place, always open. Minors are resticted upstairs, but it is not enforced, you find yourself tripping over them running around. Everything else is awesome. Great locker rooms, saunas, etc. Indoor/outdoor pool, daycare, rock climbing, one stop has it all. read more

I have been a member for four years. The facility itself is great, yes it is expensive but it's clean. The front staff is terrific, extremely friendly and helpful. I've been a member of Life Time at Burr Ridge since it opened in 2002. Yes the price has went up from time to time but only a few dollars. You pay for what you get. The management has improved greatly since the new manager took over a couple if years back. The regular staff is kind and courteous. The instructors such as Kelly (yoga the Best), Angel and Brian make going to classes a wonderful experience. The environment is clean and equipment is always available. The SPA has a terrific people including Molly who was able to do more for me in massage than physical therapy did in six months. read more

I have been a member for over 10 years, and still get treated like crap by customer service. Romeoville by far is the worst in my experience, unfortunately it's my home gym. Steven, sales manager, has a big ego I think he almost wanted to fight me. Many of the employees are similar at Romeoville. They will embarrass you and make you feel stupid. Hi! I have been a member at Lifetime Fitness before it actually opened in Romeoville. I am a senior living just up the road at Carillon. The center does have a lot to offer younger people and especially for families looking for childcare. As a senior citizen it was a nice change to interact with younger people. But I feel that my age group is not served well. I am paying for all the amenities but only have time to workout on the second floor using the recumbent bike, elliptical machine and many of the arm, leg and back machines in the newly expanded area. Since I am a caregiver for my husband I can only visit the gym twice a week. I spend one to one and a half hours working all the different parts of my body. To me this isn't worth paying the complete charge of $73. So there are no special discounts given to my age group. I was there a week ago to experience the new equipment and I enjoyed looking for all the usual equipment that I am familiar with. But the bad part of being there that day was that the music was BLASTING and hurting my ears! The acoustics are worse now because there is nothing to absorb the sound. Then announcements came over the intercom sometimes with a high pitch squeal! It ruined the whole hour and I worried that I might have some hearing loss. Yes I see that you have ear plugs but they pop right out of my ear. And I wonder how sanitary the bowl of ear plugs really is because anyone can stick their hand into the bowl without sanitizing first. Lifetime Fitness is like a big factory with noise blasting and injuring our ears. How healthy is that? It looks like I will be dropping my membership especially since hearing about all the construction that will be continuing for two years at least: building a bridge, creating a mall next to Carillon with a hotel, theater, and other stores. Was a charter member of the club in Warrenville then moved to Romeoville when it opened. Finally quit last year as the prices kept going up and the service kept going down. Half the gym and half the squash/racquetball courts were taken up by kids' programming whenever we went. Signed up for personal training and expressed said we wanted weightlifting and the trainer spent all of first two sessions using bosu balls and squats instead of machines. Not interested in what the client had to say or wanted. Extra cost for classes when already being charged more than other places in the area. Customer service non-existent -- our son couldn't find his card and we asked to be sent a new one three times but it never arrived. read more

I really like the facility because it has a lot to offer. However I just had to cut my workout short because it was crawling with kids. They have a kids zone and play area just for them out side both of which weren't being utilized as I was leaving in frustration. There were kids playing in both aerobic rooms and taking up half the gymnasium..I'm sure other women like myself enjoy a little privacy when working out because we like to avoid being gawked at like fresh meat by the regular gym tools.. I know you want to reach maximum profit but get it together life time... is this a day care or gym facility? Had to drive all the way to LA fitness just for some solitude to stretch. After years a big chain gym in Plainfield (which is newer and so poorly run and rundown), this place is a blessing! Fabulous instructors, great classes, pleasant, helpful, staff. Clean, fresh towels are everywhere, so no stinky guy's carrying a smelly moldy towel they have had in their bag for months. It's just 10,000 x's better than the lesser gyms around and worth every extra dollar. The Life Cafe food is great, really far above what I ever expected. I am a newer member - signed up in November - and I love it! I marked it down 1 star because it is pricey. I'm surprised by the negative reviews because I have had such a good experience. Mags greats my by name at the door. The cafe manager, Stephanie, has taken the time to get to know n=my dietary needs and will make custom meals and off the menu orders just for me. In the Salon, Ashley has been wonderful and personally follows up with me after my treatments. The gym is always clean, and the locker rooms and showers always fresh. The gym is huge and usually has an open hoop. The pool is a nice bonus and a treat to take the kids too. I would definitly recommend Lifetime in Romeoville! read more

The gym is fine. However the staff is useless. They also lie. I was a member for years. I signed up on a special half day only flash sale fro $39 dollars a month for life. Just for an individual not family. After a few years they simply raised my fees to over $60 dollars. When I called I told them about my special deal I had. I was told that they never had such a deal. I then called corporate and was told the same thing. I faxed them the contract. I was then told that they have had a change in policy and that the could not honor the deal. After I was lied to and treated with disrespect I decided to join a different gym. I called up the gym and informed them I wanted to end my membership. I was told I had to come in to cancel my membership and could not do it over the phone. I was told that was in my original contract. The same original contract that said my rate of $39 dollars was for life. With new small gyms popping up all over the place I have no idea why anyone would join this gym. Most of the staff hate working there, the proof is they are always leaving to these new gyms. They lie to the members and try to make it impossible to ever quit. They make money on the people who do not use the gym. Not the people who use it. NEVER NEVER NEVER join this gym! read more

I have worked out at a few other clubs in the area, and they all pale in comparison to Lifetime. Yes, you are paying a much more premium price than other clubs, but it's well worth price if you seeking to better improve your overall fitness and health. The club is clean, the machines are always working, there's a large locker room that require no locks of your own. There's a steam room and ample private showers. There's also a salon/spa and cafe. The cafe has an assortment of great meals to chose from before or after a workout. Also, with the smartphone app, you can order a meal, pay for it, and pick it up at a time that you designate. Also, one can reserve racquetball courts or schedule a class all within the app too. Oh the classes, there are a plethora that are offered free with the membership costs. There are many amenities that this club offers that none of the other clubs in the area do. The staff is friendly and the club is kept tip top. Well worth the investment if you are serious about maintaining a balanced healthy exercise regimen. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I have been a member of Lifetime in Romeoville, IL since it opened in 2006. In the past year, I have cancelled my membership but then returned a few months later since I really enjoyed the club amenities. However, when I signed back up I was told that I would receive a personal training session for signing back up. This never happened. With numerous times of me trying to contact the trainer, I never received a call back. I finally simply gave up. I was back and forth between three locations - Warrenville, Bloomingdale, and Romeoville. Around New Years, the gyms were so ridiculously packed to the point that you could not even get a parking spot or an empty machine. In addition, the gyms became dirty. This was extremely frustrating and I decided to cancel my membership for good. Little did I know that when I went in to cancel, I was instead signed up for some sort of hold plan. Be careful when signing anything at this place, make sure you get hard copies and sign them, not via electronic box. Then I started getting letters and phone calls saying that I owed money for the hold plan. After I explained my situation to a Lifetime customer service representative, I was told that I have no choice but to pay and on top of it I would be charged for yet another month (a $10.00 per month fee) for placing my account on hold, even though I had instructed them to cancel my account on the phone. You must either find the time to visit the gym in person or write a letter to cancel. Neither of which were possible for me to complete in time before the rollover to the next month. Seeing that I was already upset that I was getting charged for something I never intended to sign up for, they could have at least cancelled and not charged me for yet another month. I remember when this place first opened up; everyone was so friendly and courteous. Now they treat you like a bunch of sheep, while robbing you blind. Lifetime only focuses on getting new clients, once you are a member the customer service completely disappears. read more

Why is pricing such a huge secret here??? I am a person that walks in greeted by an over dressed front staffer. Already I am turned off by this place... I walk around the desk... I am asked "Can I Help You? I say "Yes you can. I am looking for pricing details or to talk to someone about it." (At this point I just had knee surgery and I am finishing up therapy and I don't want to stop strengthening my legs. And I overall just want to get into a gym that has the equipment I need.) He then turns around and takes care of his clients that are coming in through the door. I have no problem with attentiveness. I then get asked "Do you have an ID?" I did not have an ID at the time so I say "I don't have it with me today I'm sorry. I just want to know what the prices for your membership I know you have different levels..." To which he responds "Sorry I need an ID." I say "So what would a typical monthly membership be? " Thinking to my self that's a simple question a front desk worker would know. To which he responds rather pompous like... "MY MEMBERSHIP IS FREE... I DON'T NEED TO KNOW PRICES..." then he goes on saying "I need an ID for you to talk to anyone." I say "So your telling me that I can't talk or speak to anyone about pricing unless I have an ID." He says "Yes it's a liability issue. We like to walk you around the building and sit you down and sell you the different amenities of this gym." To which I say "Well I guess I can't talk to anyone since I don't have an ID... I will have to look into one of your competitors... " He does not respond and goes about his day playing with his tie beeping his "Gold Membership" customers in one at a time. Thanks but No Thanks you will be getting no business from me Lifetime Fitness... Yes you have a great gym large and in charge but I do not appreciate a smug pompous front desk worker who brags about free membership... I have been a member at Life Time Fitness for the past two and a half years. I have a membership were I can access all the local gyms. I first started going to this location because it is a short drive from my job. I first noticed that it is not very clean compared to the other Life Time locations. There is a lot of used paper towels on the floor. As I kept attending this gym at the same time everyday, I one time even noticed a disposable water bottle in the same place for 4 days. Likewise, a lot of their machine handles are sticky. Yuck. Aside from the cleanliness, I relatively enjoy coming here. read more

I came to use the pool. It's normally ok ..until the kids are out of school. When they are on breaks, kids are every where in the pools. I don't mind a "family friendly" atmosphere, as I was told Lifetime is by its manager, but in Summer it's like a park district with all the camps. Regular indoor swimmers are fine until they get bumped out by kids when the temperature is under 72 degrees or it's raining, or it's 3 weeks of spring breaks with schools in the area, or over Christmas. read more

My kids used to love to rock climb at Life Time. We would bring in friends and parents would sign a waiver for them to climb with us. The policy has since changed and now you have to be a member to bring in other children. The new policy will cause them to lose money especially when you are talking about 16-17 year olds kids that want to climb. Each of them are required to bring a parent. The kids can drive themselves to the place, why is one parent not enough? We won't be buying stock in this poorly managed company with policies in place that actually cause them to lose money! read more
