best gym I ever been too!!! Great time there workers are really nice!! great gym equipmen!!

I decided to try this gym out for a month only bc we unsure of some of the attitudes here at the gym. Some of the old people working at the gym are flat out RUDE. 3rd or 4th day here using the gym and I mentioned the Sauna wasn't working correctly..just to make them aware if it, I was fine either way I can manage and just go workout and see if it wants to start working.. this lady all huffy and puffy at the desk goes, " well you GUYS need to tell us when it's not working! We have never had this problem before the 3 MONTHS I have been here." She was upset and taking it out on me when all I did was bring it to her attention. So instead of saying thanks for bringing this to my attention, I will have someone look into it...lol which would have been a better response I got an earful which turn into blaming me for the other people at the gym..this is my 3rd/4th day being at the gym...Ridiculous. If that wasn't enough, the whole reason we were already iffy on joining in the first place was the lack of respect and professionalism from the manager Lisa over at this gym. Apparently she has been there for 12 years, so you think she should know how to talk to people. Nope! Guess again. She is very rude and same demeanor "you guys need to tell us when stuff goes wrong!" Again - why am I being Scolded for mentioning that something was wrong... I am not a child we are all adults this is not how you talk to people. Instead she should've thanked me for saying something instead I'm getting scolded????!!!!!! I'm sorry I'm not sure what kind of hooligans you have over at the gym but you should know how to talk to people and stop blaming the help. When I'm at the gym I clean up after myself I wipe the machines down and everything and when I see something wrong I say something instead of getting a proper thank you I'm getting an earful and being treated like garbage not worth it!!!!! I don't know what's up with these older people that work at the gym but they are not pleasant. The younger people that work at the gym are fine they're very nice what's wrong with these older people I don't understand. Perhaps these rude people need to take a vacation or find a different line of work one that doesn't include customer service because they're terrible at it! Later....I did have another conversation with someone else at the gym and they have mentioned the saunas have issues constantly... so if the workers would do there jobs instead of just sit at the desk and collect a paycheck then maybe the gym would be in better shape and instead of "BLAMING" the people who actually come to the gym to - keep you collecting that paycheck, perhaps you could find it in your HEART to be a bit nicer to us. The gym goers are how you get paid to have a job - the owner just signs it. The customers are the ones who keep you employed. Please remember this. read more

They'll find a way to squeeze money out of you somehow. They're afraid to raise their rates so they invented yearly charges and charge you $90 to leave. I would avoid it. We joined for childcare, but they got rid of that and invented the yearly fees. read more

I recently canceled my membership because I am at high risk for Covid. I explained why and that I was not joining another club. It was strictly for my health. I was told I HAD to pay for another month because their policy is to give 30 day notice! I tried to reason that these are unusual times and couldn't they make an exception? The manager, who kept interrupting me, said no. I had been going to this club for 25 years and they charged me for a month after I quit. This is one of the most uncaring, greedy, uncompassionate acts I have ever experienced. For years I have always boasted what a great place this was and encouraged friends and colleagues to join. Top gym for good price, been going here for a year and the the employees are receptive and understanding to their clients. There is everything you need from cardio, to heavy lifting, to cross-fit, and they have classes that suit people of all fitness levels. Would recommend to any friend or family member. read more

They have a variety of exercise equipment and I enjoy walking their track. I also like the tanning services they have available and their smoothie bar. They have so many different flavors to try! I was a member of this gym when it was Five Star. I was a member of Bodytech Mokena for a decade. So when I learned they purchased the gym I was currently a member at, I was thrilled. The equipment have been updated as needed as well as more operational than with previous ownership. This gym looks about the same as it did 15 years ago except for the middle has been converted to a freewieght room. The roof leaks (fix it) and the machines are still solid (sanded to metal for a cheaper than painting remodel). The track is still solid and more than enough room to workout with many different options. Worth what they charge? No, but what place is besides Cardinal. Lots of TV's and treadmills have LCD tv's on them. If the place was $20.00, I'd so join. read more

They have plenty of cardio equipment, 2 studios, over 120lbs dumbells, and extremely staff with very knowledgeable trainers. I've been a member at this gym for over 10 years. I've seen it go through three ownership changes (Powerhouse, Golds, 5-star). My honest review is this: The classes are great, they are what keep me coming back. High energy instructors able to give options for beginners to advanced. I've never had a bad experience in class. Although some instructors tend to run late occasionally. Great variety of classes offered. Would be nice to see some more kickboxing or spin classes later in the evening. There is a lot of cardio equipment available, so you don't usually have to wait for a machine. Machines are cleaned regularly by staff, and members do tend to wipe machines when done. Occasionally machines don't work, it does get frustrating. There are multiple weight lifting areas. The assistance machines are spread out throughout the gym. There are multiple machines for each area of the body (I.e. Biceps, triceps,etc.) so if someone is on one, you can find another. Members are good about allowing others to "work in" as well. Machines are a little run down, but not ridiculously so. Areas where machines require you to adjust weights with plates (free weight equipment) have plentiful plates available. Only gripe here is that members tend to leave machines with multiple heavy weights on them, so you have to clear machines before beginning. The free weight room can be intimidating for women, but there are women in there working out. I would suggest more 12-15 lb weights for the women. Mirrors seem to get broken often from members being careless, but overall the atmosphere is positive. I don't buy shakes or bars that are offered, just a personal preference. I haven't heard any negative reviews of them. The staff at the front desk are always welcoming. The personal trainers are happy to answer any questions. Overall, the staff is great. We used the FREE daycare regularly for many years. Our kids are old enough this year to stay home so we don't anymore, but my experience has been average. It's a REALLY small room, not able to hold the amount of kids that show up during class times, or on holidays. Especially when you get a mix of older kids in with the younger ones, it almost becomes dangerous. I stopped coming to night classes for this. There isn't much for them to do either. Members (myself included) have donated toys, but they get broken quickly. The girls in there are sweet, but seem over run on some days, and discipline (or lack there of) is an issue. The room is kept clean, there is a separate bathroom in there for the kids, but that tends to be pretty gross sometimes. There has been issues with the roof leaking. I've seen mold on the exterior walls above the base trim in the winter from condensation. Sections of walls were removed and left open all winter. Not really professional. The locker rooms are ok. There is some mildew in showers, lockers are rusted but functional, toilets tend to get "jammed" regularly (yuck). It gets ridiculously cold in the winter in the girls locker room because the havc unit also controls the temp in the cardio class studio, which needs to be kept cool. A portable heater would be appreciated. So the gym has been sold again to Body Tech. Rates are going up and I've heard rumors that they will be charging for day care. I would suggest they grandfather loyal members' rates or they will loose their base members. I would also suggest they fix the roof and clear the mold if they are Hoping to draw in new members. My membership expires in July of 2018, I would miss the classes and members, but will leave if my rates are increased. read more

Five star fitness is a very good gym. The staff is excellent, and the facility is well maintained. My only drawback is they are not 24 hours. It used to be when it was golds and that was awesome! The cardio equipment is awesome, and there are tons of free weights machines to choose from. I was glad when five star took over and changed the gym. I hated that cage that used to line the track on one side of the gym! I moved away so my membership I had to cancel, but if I ever go back I would join again in a heartbeat! read more

I used to come to this gym way back when it was Powerhouse and loved it. Then it became Gold's and I fell out of love and left. I looked into 5 Star because it met some oddball criteria: location, childcare, stairclimber. It's right by my house. Which is great because I planned on using it for my cardio days (I lift elsewhere). The gym is clean, so is the locker room. They seem to be doing some renovations right now so I'm curious to see how that pans out. Staff is the right amount of friendly. They say hi and bye and "have a nice day" and I'm good with that. Keep that up. Nothing is worse than when staff is overbearing. Which was one reason Gold's turned me off. As I spend my time in the cardio area I scope things out. Lots of free weights and machines. I haven't used that stuff yet. Something else I notice is the overall congeniality of the members. Polite smiles. Basic manners. Most clean their equipment when they're finished (there's always one groady punk ruining it). I see "regulars" greeting one another and having some small talk. One morning I went at 4am and I got off my machine to grab a wipe a gentleman behind me said "great job!"- it was a great start to my day. My son hangs out in the childcare. We tend to be there when Liz is on duty. She remembers the kid's names and even greets him as we walk in. During empty periods we've come in and she's cleaning. When it's busy she never seems flustered. She was the first non-family member I had left my son with and he is a child in a home full of adults so it takes him a bit to warm up. The fact that he takes little to no issue staying here without me speaks volumes (especially since he's in a clingy phase). The childcare alone earns this place 5 stars. So far very happy. read more

Everythings great except the hours, wished they were open later, especially on weekends. The other day these "myspaced ripped" black kids were playing basketball shirtless then proceeded to work out on the equipment shirtless. Not one staff member told them anything. The rest of the people working out just bert stared. kinda unsanitary brah. read more
